For those of you that don’t, the NHRA made a rule saying that the Pro Stock guys could run any manufacturers engine in any manufacturers body. All memes aside, this is getting out of hand. Pro Stock was created to sell cars. Back in the 60s and 70s, that was the main focus of the class. Then, someone had the idea to throw the biggest naturally aspirated motor they could and see how fast they could go calling it Pro Stock. The NHRA maintained the selling cars mentality, and they still continue this today. The other side of Pro Stock is still dedicated to making naturally aspirated doorcars fly. The NHRA, however, has made some really bad moves the past few years regarding the Pro Stock category. A couple years back, they decided to make a big rule change where they outlawed carburetors, which they thought would bring in more sponsorship money. Myself, I was somewhat supportive of this decision because if their goal was to sell cars, this would help, considering that no modern cars roll out of the factory with carburetors. This slowed the cars way down, and I stopped supporting it within two races. In that big rule change, they also limited the cars to 10,500 rpms to “save them money”. This in turn costed them more, and I don’t think anyone driving a Pro Stock is that worried about the small funds of hitting 11,000 rpm for a tenth of a second. They also noticed that the Hemi cars were 30 horse down from the Chevrolet powered racecars, so they made it legal to run a Chevy motor in a mopar body. Mopar probably threatened to stop sponsoring the NHRA, so this is their frantic attempt to get them back. This in turn will not work out. If you were Dodge, would you want to sponsor a group of cars with Chevy engine?
