What is your favorite simple ice-cream flavor?  Usually vanilla, but sometimes I'm all about chocolate, especially if I can't put chocolate syrup on it. I have a lot to say about this game and the team in general, so I will put it under the cut. Keep in mind that I am on an energy rush, so some things might not be worded the way I actually intend to, but you know ... that’s all you’re getting right now 

Where do I even start? What is Bayern München as a team these days? 

I will distance myself from the team for now, because I want to go into this with an “outsider view-point” if that makes sense. 

The team wins matches and is in first place in the Bundesliga, and that is a big deal, I get that. For me it is an even bigger deal than winning the Champions League, if I am honest. I think the national title comes first, then international titles. It’s always been that way for me, because I am proud of a team that can hold up its composure throughout an entire season more than I am of a team that can win a couple matches every now and then. That’s just my opinion and I understand that some people think an international title is worth more - I don’t agree. But that’s that! 

This match wasn’t a case of Real Madrid being the better team. It was a clear case of FC Bayern München ... basically not playing in the second half. 

From minute let’s say 55 onwards, nobody even bothered running anymore. The only people really doing their job were Philipp Lahm, Arjen Robben and Jerome Boateng. And Manuel Neuer, of course. I think it’s pretty obvious that that dude is the world’s #1 goalkeeper for a reason! But other than that...? Vidal missed a penalty, which is annoying, but can’t be changed. Not sure what his intention was when he smashed that ball out of the park, but what’s done is done. 

Robben, Philipp and Jerome were the only players that were actually still actively doing their job on that pitch for the last 40 minutes or so. Manuel Neuer saved this team’s ass so many times, I don’t understand how that even happened. Nobody bothered to move, it was always the same three people. Douglas Costa brought nothing to the pitch, Coman and Bernat didn’t either. 

Bayern München have got to stop wanting to play beautiful. This isn’t about pretty, this is soccer. This is a sport. Why do they always want to play nice instead of playing dirty? What is up with that? They had amazing chances, but always wanna escort the ball into the net instead of just shooting. Of course Real Madrid had a strong defence, but not strong enough for Bayern not to use their chances. They just didn’t do it. They didn’t want to, they didn’t try to. They didn’t do it. The open spaces weren’t used, even though they were basically standing right in them, and towards the end Robben and Philipp looked for other players, but it was always just the two of them there, and a good majority of the others had only just made it across the line. That is unacceptable. 

I know they can win in Madrid because they’re good enough. We all know that. Madrid is a strong opponent, but not one that’s impossible to beat. This was only a 2:1, not a 5:1. Using their chances could’ve put Bayern in the lead 3:0 within the first half, and that’s not counting the missed penalty. They have the chances, they can play the game, they can control it and they can read it. Real Madrid aren’t out of this world good, they’re not the best there is in the world of football. At least not the way they played today. I know people wanna say “oh but beating them in their own stadium is much harder”... is it though? I don’t believe in that kinda crap, I don’t get it. I have been in competitive sports my whole life and I know that that’s just a way to try and humble yourself, but that’s crap. The amount of times we came back strong from a defeat at home...it’s possible! It’s 100% possible and Bayern München have the ability, the team spirit and the power to do it. But what they showed today was just the exact opposite and to be that wasn’t because they were put under an extreme pressure (except for the fact that they had to play with 10 players because Javi Martinez is a dumb piece of poop) but because they simply stopped playing after minute 55. Not sure why. Not sure whose idea it was to “slow down a bit, guys”. If you can’t run for 90 minuntes with a 15 minute break inbetween, then you’ve chosen the wrong sport. Maybe try competitive stitching or reading, I don’t know. Anything really but not a sport that requires you to run fast. 

I know some people will think this is harsh but honestly I don’t give a crap. I can talk this harsh to my soccer team of 10-12yo girls and they’re doing ok but then again the internet is full of faint-hearted people so you know careful because this post contains strong opinions. I don’t believe in the whole “oh my gosh they did so well this was just unfortunate” crap, because that’s not what it was. They sucked. They didn’t put ANY effort into this match, except for ARjen Robben, Philipp Lahm and Jeromé Boateng. I do think that David Alaba and Thomas Müller were ok they definitely didn’t suck as much as the rest did, and I am glad Vidal scored that one goal. That’s all good and dandy. But this game was pathetic and FC Bayern München have a lot to work on within their team to get to an international standard that they were once at. If you lose, at least lose giving it your best shot. Not that sad excuse of a game you showed us today.
