“I hear that there have been talks concerning your marital status.”

You do not lift your face up from the chessboard, instead keeping your gaze solely on the pieces before you with your brows knitted together in deep concentration. There was no room for making mistakes. You must be meticulous and calculated with your decisions. With your pride weighing heavy above your head, you could not afford to admit defeat to him once more.

You’ve already lost four times. A fifth would be a bruise to your ego.

“I was not aware that the General liked to engage himself in rumours during his spare time.”

“Well,” he starts with a hum, raising his hand to pet the bird that landed on his shoulder with a gentle finger. “Only if said rumours are a matter of interest to me.”

Your attention is not swayed anywhere else but at the board, your mind silently rummaging for all the possible outcomes to turn this game around in your favour. You haven’t made a single move for seven minutes, choosing to exercise your patience before decidedly moving your piece. Jing Yuan does not mind. It only gives him all the more time to be with you.

(Which, of course, was his intention from the very beginning. Expertly orchestrating the scene from behind the lines to keep you all to himself, but he wisely chooses to withhold this bit of information from you. In any case, you will figure it out eventually as you always do, the clever little finch that you are.)

“Which includes affairs concerning my betrothal, I assume.”

“Naturally.”

And finally — finally — your eyes move up to find for his own. He offers you a gentle smile, his lips etched upwards in a way that has all the men and women alike sighing dreamily. If they weren’t too busy being intimidated by him, then they occupied themselves by admiring him from afar.

“Go on, then,” He presses. “Won’t you relieve an old man of his curiosity?”

You send him a sceptical look. If you didn’t know him any better, you would have assumed that his questioning stemmed from genuine interest. Which might have fooled you all those centuries ago, but you’ve come to understand him. You’ve become quite adept at reading the many faces of Jing Yuan, subtle as they are. And you’re not quite sure which irks you more: the fact that you know him well, or the fact that you feel proud of it. Few people can discern the thoughts in his mind, and even fewer who manage to get it right. But not you; never you.

He’s looking at you with a glint in his golden eyes that wordlessly requests for you to indulge him, despite already knowing the answer. He simply wants to hear the words from you without having to voice it himself because Aeon forbid he ask like any other normal human being would. That’d be no fun.

You sigh in defeat, relenting. Only to save yourself from the headache, otherwise he would continuously pester you until he got an answer. He can be persistent when he wants to be. You wish he’d been more persistent in finishing his papers instead, which still remain unattended on his large wooden desk.

“There have been discussions in passing,” you say. “And constant reminders that marriage should be a priority for me, but I’ve yet to find someone who is competent enough to even be considered. I’m known to be very demanding, you see.”

“I would not expect anything less,” The small finch flies off from his shoulder with a delightful chirp, now putting his hand down on his knees. You are decisive, that he is certain of. Once you’ve made up your mind, it is final — which is an admirable trait to have, of course, though he’s not quite fully convinced if you know what you truly want.

“It is a poor shame that you have not found someone that has met your required expectations,” He continues, feigning sympathy at the countless people you’ve rejected as if he had cared to begin with. As if he didn’t turn down the numerous proposals that he received from affluent families either. You hide a scoff from under your breath. “Though I imagine it would be quite the feat if someone did catch your eye.”

He urges for you to continue; to spill yourself in front of him and be caught vulnerable under his watchful eye. You aren’t in the least bit surprised — it has been a game between the two of you, the untamed cat and the flitting bird. He lures you in, but you keep yourself close and fly away before he snares you with his sharp teeth.

Very well. You’ll entertain him just this once.

“I suppose there is someone,” you say. And to the untrained eye, one might not have noticed the slight change of Jing Yuan’s posture — but you are not like others. You know him, and almost immediately, you caught the slight movement of his shoulders that suggested that you’ve caught his full attention.

“Oh?” More probing. He won’t stop until he gets something from you. “Do tell.”

“Ah, but you must know, General, that he is hardly ideal,” You smooth out your silken robes, placing both hands nearly on your lap as he watches you from the other side of the table.

“He is an exception then,” Jing Yuan muses. “To your long list of demands, that is.”

“That is not to say that this man does not have his faults,” You counter back, and you swore you saw the slightest twitch of his smile lifting up. “He is far too leisurely for my own liking, for one. He neglects certain duties that he ought to be doing.”

“Troublesome, to be sure.”

“Most certainly,” you sighed. “He speaks in riddles which only drives me mad. He’s hardly ever upfront about what goes on in his mind, and—”

One of his eyebrows raise, his body leaning slightly forward, “And?”

“—And he just lost a game of chess.”

He remains silent for a moment that lasts only by a split second — blinking once, twice, and then thrice before lowering his head down to inspect the board before him. He skims the pieces laid out in front of him with half amusement and half confusion, and it takes him quite some time to register that he did, in fact, lose.

Your smile is bright and proud, with your satisfaction and pride seeping off of you. It is awfully contagious and he can’t help but return a smile of his own, eyes closed in silent acknowledgement at your recent win. He offers you a word of congratulation, which you soak in with delight and bliss because if there is one thing that brightens up your day, it is his seal of approval. It isn’t everyday that the great general of Luofu loses, after all.

You’ll have to commemorate this day into your memory. He’ll never hear the end of it.

“I think it’s best that I get going now,” You lift yourself up on your two feet, smoothing out the wrinkles that formed on your clothing. “Politicians to entertain, dinners to host… You understand how busy it can get.”

“You’ve given me a most invigorating game,” He stands up not long after you, offering his arm to steady yourself as you quickly fix your appearance before excusing yourself to a long day of festivities. “I must thank you for indulging me.”

“It wouldn’t sit right with me if I left an old man such as yourself all by his lonesome,” You reason, but he knows you just as well as you know him. He can easily spot a lie on your lips when he hears one.

You make your way towards the door, with him following beside you to escort you out. Back then, you would have insisted that it was unnecessary — you were perfectly capable of seeing yourself out on your own, to which he replied with: ‘Of course. But I’d like to stay close to you before I send you on your way, if you’ll allow me.’ You stopped insisting him after that.

Your hand is only a few centimetres away from reaching the door knob before putting yourself into a brusque halt, body twisting to look at him. “Oh, and General?”

“Yes?”

Something warm is placed on the centre of his palm, his bright eyes gazing down to inspect it before his eyes settle on the familiar material laid on his hand. A chess piece. His chess piece, to be exact. But you spare him no time for a response — you flash him a teasing smile, just as bright as the one you spared him on your win — and leave the room without saying another word, the door closing behind you with a click.

Jing Yuan chuckles, tucking the chess piece in his robes.

Clever little finch, indeed.

Haris Pilton: Trixany, you didn't have to kick Brann Bronzebeard out of his chair and pour boba tea all over him. I was already blackmailing him out of a few lucrative dark iron mines in order to help us.

Trixany: He insulted me and my culture. And so did you, Haris!

Haris: I'm always doing that.

Trixany: Moreso than usual. And aren't you also a Blood Elf? You don't act like it!

Haris: Right, but I'm from the morally attractive side of the family. You're still sporting those fel green eyes, sun only knows why. Actually, I've been thinking hard about re-rolling Void Elf. On Moon Guard. Tentacles could trend again, you never know.

Trixany: I won't work with Brann to write my book! Just... just get the second best person on the list.

Haris: *takes out her comm, swipes through it* Oh, interesting! I didn't know that HE was available via honorarium. Some mages must be hard up for gold these days. Well, there it is. War is expensive after all.

Trixany: Wait, who is it?

Haris: *gently takes Trixany's half-full boba drink away.* Just in case. Don't freak out when he arrives.

*A portal opens before them. Blue light coalesces over the attractive figure of a tall man with a staff, graying hair.*

The remaining two Nidtrins came out of the crowd. One of them had a gun and the other was forming a fireball. The Berthan Guards knew how to react to that. One of the guards started corralling the innocent people away. Another took a shot at the one with a gun. Sophie, whose only combat experience had happened in the last six hours and she was dreadfully terrible at it, ducked behind another guard, trying not to get herself shot. Julls pulled out her own gun, since now it was obviously a gun fight. The man underneath Lily’s hoof started struggling again.

Lily noted all of that as it happened in the span of about three seconds, which gave her two seconds to plan and one to roll her eyes. With a shove of her hoof, she crushed the sternum of the man she was standing on and then she focused her attention on the minor demonic astral. Clearly speed was his gift and he rushed at her and tried to get a hand around her neck. She got her hands around his forearms and prevented that from happening. With fluid grace she planted a leg onto his midsection and rolled onto her back, springing him off of her and into a wall. The blow would have at least taken the fight out of a normal person, but he was an astral. He was clearly used to fighting people who weren’t also demonic astrals and was lost when he didn’t have his speed and strength to his advantage.

Lily, however, had fought her own kind before.

When he rushed her again, she twisted and delivered her closest approximation to a roundhouse kick to his chest, sending him flying backwards. She formed a lightning chain and sent it his direction. He dodged it, but only just. Lily spared a bit of energy to put a half-domed shield around Sophie so the guard didn’t have to worry as much about her.

Lily shed her cloak and took a deep breath. She began to sing, quietly. It was a pleasant tune. The other demonic astral froze, captivated. The corners of Lily’s mouth turned up into a smile. She directed the entirety of her song to him. His eyes glowed white, mimicking the glow of her own eyes. Slowly, he staggered towards her.

When he was within reach, she grabbed his arm. The purple marks seemed to burn as they arrived. Her own hand hurt slightly, which wasn’t the norm. She persisted, however, continuing her song. She let electricity dance across her free hand before upper-cutting his nose into his brain.

Perhaps she should have offered him freedom from her. But what god would take on a demonic astral coming from Nidtrix after coming from someone else first?

161. Xie Qingcheng can't get rid of He Yu that easily. He Yu follows him everywhere, his classes, his dorm but Xie Qingcheng remains firm and ignores him physically but always monitors He Yu's watch from his computer. He misses him too. 😢

He Yu's bracelet is orange not red yet and Xie Qingcheng is optimistic, he hopes it will blue one day soon. He Yu can't possibly wait for him forever according to Xie Qingcheng. I think you are underestimating He Yu's tenacity Xie ge. I think he will wait forever.

Xie Qingcheng doesn't want He Yu's stuff in his house anymore so he throws out all of his stuff. He Yu left so many things in his dorm room, his school books, his game console which he bought so that they both can play together but it's been collecting dust in Xie Qingcheng's room. He Yu doesn't decorate his own house but he definitely wants to decorate Xie Qingcheng's house with his stuff. This shows that Xie Qingcheng is his home. Awww He Yu even got zootopia Nick and Judy mugs for them. Omg this is so cute. But Xie Qingcheng threw them all out so

I want He Yu to buy them again when they finally move in together. After getting rid of everything, Xie Qingcheng feels like the entire house feels empty and cold. Why did you get rid off the stuff then 😭😭

The little charizard that He Yu kept on top of his bed had somehow escaped Xie Qingcheng's cleaning up and Xie Qingcheng remembers He Yu saying it will keep Xie Qingcheng warm when Xqc pointed it was fake He Yu hugged him and promised to keep Xie Qingcheng warm for free all the time. Basically Xqc missing his human heater.

Xie Qingcheng genuinely misses He Yu a lot because he almost throws the charizard out but then keeps it anyway.

He Yu texts Xqc at 11 every night from outside Xqc's dorm and only then he goes back home.

It's heavily raining one night and He Yu is still standing outside Xqc's dorm. Xqc opens his window to smoke and finds him standing in the heavy rain, the umbrella not doing much at all. And he thinks if he's too cruel when their eyes meet. The rain scene made me tear up. Ngl.

Xqc gets a call from Qin Rongbei, Qin Ciyan's daughter's husband to inform him that she's passed away. Oh wow! Another person to add to the list of deaths that is going to haunt Xie ge forever. And what was all the experiments he has done on his body for. All that in vain!!! Fuck!!

But it's also good! No need to save anyone any more if He Yu kidnaps him and locks him up for treatment.

Despite the death of Qin Rongbei, Xie Qingcheng is still on his road to self destruction!

Xqc goes to cemetery to visit Chen Lishen and Qin ciyan's tombs but as always he can't go near Qin ciyan's tomb so He Yu takes the lilies from Xqc to place it in his tomb for xqc instead. Xie ge should honestly marry He Yu!

He Yu notices Xqc's weight loss and the coughing and the frequent visits to Meiyu hospital. Please He Yu figure it out already!!

Xqc has planned to get xie xue married before he passes away so he tells xie xue he has picked put some good candidates for her.

Mihime-

A shy, awkward student comes walking up to Mihime while she and the rest of her clique are sitting on the bench behind the school.

"N... Nobuki-senpai, I saw this pretty flower in the garden, so-"

Mihime cuts him off immediately, furrowing her eyebrows and turning up her nose in disgust. "Is that for Momo-chan? I don't like sappy bullshit like this, she does."

The boy nervously scratches the back of his head and fumbles for words. "Ah. Um, t-then I guess I'll j-just... Throw it away, I suppose."

Mihime quickly snatches the flower and pushes him away with her foot. "Shut up and give me the flower, dumbass."

The student walks away as Mihime turns back to her friends, a slight blush spreading across her face.

Momoko-

"Momoko-san!" a voice calls.

Said girl, who'd been walking and gossiping to her friends, turns around waiting in front of the school gate. A boy around her age jogs up to her, a large bouquet in his hands.

"You look beautiful, as always! I brought you this bouquet of peonies, I know they're your favorite."

Momoko immediately starts tearing up (because she is a literal crybaby) and takes the flowers from the boy. She touches a petal and looks up at him, a gentle smile crossing her face.

"The restraining order says 50 feet away, loser. Don't make me call the police again," she says, the warm smile still set. She turns and joins her friends as they walk into the school.

Kageya-

A young girl, possibly a first year, comes running to catch up to Mihime's clique. As mean as they are, she thinks it's worth giving her gift to her senpai Kageya!

Maybe then he'll actually notice her. She's had a crush on him for the longest of time. They were in junior high together and she was much too shy to say anything and was sad when he went on to high school. Now might be her chance.

"Kageya-senpai!" she calls out. Out of breath she hands him a single rose. "Here, I picked this flower out especially for you!"

He was quiet. Staring at her with his cold, critical eyes. She looked at his friends. They looked bored with her, awaiting her absence. She felt defeated.

She was just about to lower the rose and walk off when he grabbed it from her, examining the petals.

"Can I smoke it?"

Nijiko-

Nijiko opened his front door, hearing the bell ring and numerous knocks. But no one was there. He looked down and saw a large bouquet of red carnations.

He blushed and looked at the tag to see who had sent them but what he saw confused him. A card with a bunch of writing, yet it wasn't in Japanese. He recognized some words but not enough to understand. Then it hit him.

"Chinese...?" a small smile appeared on his lips. "Song, Lishen.. You little devil"

Kiyomi-

Despite her friends telling her not to get revenge, she knew she had to. This was the third time! She's sick of it and sick of that weirdo!

She turned the corner and spotted him. He was turned around, talking to his friends in front of their club room. Perfect.

She stomped up to him, grabbed the strap to his camera, and spun him around. She kicked as hard as she could in between his legs. The poor boy fell in front of her, crying and whimpering.

"Stop putting flowers in my locker, or I'll make sure you won't see the light of day! You got that, collar-boy?!"

TLDR:

Mihime likes being given gifts even if they aren't to her liking. She actually really cherishes them.

Momoko likes gifts, but not from people she doesn't know and will get a restraining order against the giver.

As long as you can smoke it or eat it, Kageya doesn't mind. Otherwise he'll throw it away. Right in front of the giver.

Kiyomi hates getting gifts and will tell the giver to leave her alone. If they don't, she will use physical violence against the giver.

Nijiko loves receiving gifts and would personally thank the giver! He would possibly give them something back!

The candle plays happy birthday to you but when it comes to the part about wishing you a happy family xie qingcheng's expression seems a bit somber so He Yu sings the happy birthday out of tune and wishes he and Xie Qingcheng have a happy family. (Of 18 kids ofc 😜)

Then he kisses Xie Qingcheng again. Like he yu is honestly adorable. But after the kiss he says he's willing to sleep with Xie Qingcheng whenever he wants. Haha

Xie Qingcheng tricks him into eating the dumplings he made but he yu doesn't care about that anymore since he got a coin in his dumpling. (I remember when cwn gave mo ran the dumpling with the coin and this tradition literally feels like a language of love to me.)

Sure! He’s just a spoiled brat who just so happens to be gay. He’s had an easy life, with a nice family, adoring mother and father and a sweet younger brother. I think I’ll tell you lovelies what happened in school instead!When he first came to Byaku Academy as a first year, he made friends with a lot of people, mainly guys. He was (and still is) known for his good looks amongst girls and a lot of his male friends told him they were jealous of him for it. He soon met Mihime, Kageya, and Momoko. They started bringing out the worst in him. He was originally the worst Bully in the clique since Kiyomi wasn’t in highschool yet.He was more mean and crude, he physically abused a lot of his male victims and picking up bad habits. He started ditching school and his grades dropped. He started bullying and gossiping about other people just to appease Mihime. He didn’t have an inferiority complex, he just wanted to look good in front of her. But then he messed with the wrong people.Around this time, he had started gossiping and bullying Masaho because Momoko and Mihime lied to him and told him she was badmouthing his family. The girls only did it because they didn’t like Masaho and wanted to get back at her without actually having to do any work.However, Nijiko also targeted Kuromu. Kuromu was known as the school creep already, so it made his treatment towards Kuromu a bit worse; Nijiko started taking the boys money, gossiping and making up rumors about him, and called him out on stalking Tsubaki (or “following that nobody around” as he put it.) in front of a crowd of students.WuYa texted Kuromu, wanting revenge on Nijiko and came up with a plan. Kuromu was to follow Nijiko around and get information on him. Kuromu followed him and found out he had been going to a gay club (with a fake ID) and meeting up with his (then) older boyfriend. He took this information back to WuYa and the next day, Nijiko was outed to the entire school…Nijiko lost many of his friends and was bullied by other people and felt alone and depressed for a long time, distancing himself from the rest of the clique. His boyfriend broke up with him because he didn’t want anyone at his school to know he was gay.Eventually Mihime, Kageya, and Momoko went to his house with junk food, love, and support, encouraging him to come out and be proud. The girls also explained their previous plan and apologized. Nijiko forgave them and stopped being a bully, granted he isn’t perfect. He was still very depressed but with the help of his three best friends, he became himself again. The only difference now is that he has less friends than he started with and that he has a group of fujoshis and fudanshis crowding around him everyday.Nijiko personally apologized to everyone he bullies and paid them each a large sum of money as a treaty. Masaho accepted, but Kuromu didn’t, which Nijiko understood.Now he’s considered the nicest in Mihime’s clique and is loved by a lot of people, and even has a new crush on Song Lishen, a member of the occult club. He has even tried courting him but Lishen, with his small understanding of Japanese, didn’t really understand. And as much of a loser and a freak Mihime and the others think Lishen is, they still support Nijiko’s love
