#like they love each other and are openly affectionate and complimentary and that was really important to me about them
Note
If you're still up for Give Me A Character meme, how about someone who reports to LaCroix, like Bertram Tung, Gary Golden, and/or the Sheriff?
You know, I think I’m gonna go for Bertram. Not an especially lot of stuff going on for him in fandom.
How I feel about this character:
Creepy fucker, but like, in a good way! His voice actor was just having absolutely the most fun with him. The voice is great, and then I love his tendency to use overly familiar cutesy terms of endearment towards the Fledgling (like “cupcake”) despite everything else about him being the very exact opposite of cutesy.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
You know, at the end of the day they were both just kind of playing each other, but some part of me does wish that Jeanette and Bertram’s relationship was just nice and for real. I tend to headcanon Jeanette as much more affectionate in plainly caring in a hospitable kind of way than she lets on (that the crux of her character is that she wants to make people “feel good” at that tends to take the form of sexuality, but not exclusively, in my headcanon,) so I do really like the idea of a character so supposedly hedonistic and “super-hot” like Jeanette just genuinely fawning over someone like Bertram with all his Nos-ness going on. They probably both enjoy shenanigans and mischief.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Knox! Sweet baby boy Knox! I don’t remember exactly how affectionate Bertram is towards Knox in your conversations with him (I remember he’s at least complimentary) and then Knox is very much in awe of Bertram. I read some kind of wholesomeness into their relationship and it kinda gives me life. I know a lot of Knox’s fawning is just his blood bond to Bertram, but Bertram at least seems appreciative of his ghoul.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I am both compelled to berate him for being a Camarilla bootlicker, and also respect him because I think its interesting to see a Nos be so openly complimentary of the Camarilla (and the Ventrue! Can I just take a second to express how REFRESHING it is to hear someone--not a Ventrue--actually have nice things to say about the Ventrue? They’re my favorite clan and the constant dogpiling against them can get upsetting sometimes...)
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I do wish he got more content later in the game. There’s really not much of a reason to visit him after you complete Santa Monica. He’s got a pretty plentiful dialogue tree, but unlike Mercurio, nothing is added to as you progress further in the game (to my knowledge.)
Also wish we got more biographical information on him than we did. We don’t know how old he is or what kind of geographic or historic era he could have been embraced in. He seems pretty contemporary American but he certainly carries himself like he’s got plenty of experience. I saw a fanfiction treatment of him once in which he was actually a Nosferatu Elder and I thought that was actually pretty neat and interesting to think about.
In a similar vein to that, I want to know what the Hollywood sewer Nos think of him. The LA Nos are in general ambiguously affiliated with the Camarilla, but Bertram seems moreso than the others. (Even Gary, who sits on LaCroix’s council is less impressed with the Cam and their “Prince Priss” than Bertram is.) ...Wait, why is BERTRAM not the Nosferatu Primogen then? Could you imagine?
