A bit about Paradox
Tumblr media
So, I wrote a massive story with Furina and Neuvillette, which you can find here!
I didn’t want to make the notes section too long with all my thoughts regarding the story, and so I decided to write all here in this one post!
If you’d like to learn a bit about my thought process behind writing the story, then you’ve come to the right place.
All below the cut!
Tumblr media
First of all, this story wasn’t meant to be as long as it is.
I originally wanted to beat my record of 17k for a story, so I aimed for about 20k. Maybe 22k? Like…25k at the most?
That sounded feasible, right?
And then it became longer. And longer. And longer the more I wrote…
I thought I’d never reach the end. It just kept going, aha.
I kept writing until it felt all complete to me. I wanted to tell a cohesive story, which requires a lot of words!
This is why this story took so long to write! Apparently, it took me over a month to write this….
I made the document on the same day 4.2 came out. But I think I started writing a few days later.
I was meant to write one more fic before the end of the year, but I think this might be final one for the year!
It took longer than I expected to write it. But I’m very proud of what I’ve written!
Tumblr media
But let’s start from the beginning. What made me write this story in the first place?
I started writing this story after I finished playing Act V and Furina’s Story Quest.
I knew I wanted to write something as soon as I finished the quests, because that’s what I do lol
For example, that’s what I did when I played Neuvillette’s Story Quest. I get really inspired after playing!
I love Genshin's Archon Quests and Story Quests so much.
I always want to play everything first to learn more about the characters before jumping right into writing.
I don’t want to butcher their characterizations. I always try my best to stay as close to canon as possible, but add my own headcanons as well about things like powers because well…I can!
I knew this time around, I wanted to write in Furina’s POV!
Since I wrote in Neuvillette’s POV for Resolution of Water’s Complexity. I thought it would be cool.
And after the events of Act V and Furina’s Story Quest, I knew that I wanted this story to be sad. I surprised myself at how sad this story can get.
Sorry. I break hearts aha.
But it also has its funny moments too! I love humor, and I try to add into my stories in the hopes I can make you all laugh.
This is why I set it after Furina’s Story Quest in particular. I wanted Furina to have her vision since it does play a part in the story!
When I started writing this, I had a very, very basic idea. You know the summary for Paradox?
That’s all I had.
Along with this one thought of Furina dancing on the stage.
Nothing else was planned. I just wrote and it became what it is now!
It’s how I usually write.
Tumblr media
I wanted dreams to be a major aspect of the story. I love the concept of dreams, and how they can feel so real.
It's like what they said in Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures.
Perhaps fantasy is not just fantasy after all.
A decent of the fairytale world into the real world. It temporarily became reality, and influenced real things in our world.
I think that's how I'd describe my story, although it was a total coincidence that the event sort of has the same ideas as my story lol
Let's talk about the dream Furina has at the beginning of the story.
As you can tell, it plays an important part throughout it all. It’s referenced explicitly multiple times.
It was the first thing I wrote, which basically set the trajectory for the rest of the story.
I wanted to catch your attention from the very start, which I hope I managed to do!
The dream goes deeply into Furina’s thoughts while she is dancing for her people, which are rather dark as you can see.
On the outside, she's being what her people want her to be. On the inside is another story.
I based this off the things we see in Act V, and what I thought Furina would think about her role.
She mainly didn’t want to fail Fontaine. She received an important role from Mirror-Me, as we know as Focalors to play as the Hydro Archon.
It’s why she worked so hard to keep up her act. Even if she suffers, she would suffer for all of Fontaine.
Everything and anything to protect them from the prophecy. But in the dream, she fails. They realise she’s not the Archon.
Even though she didn’t fail in reality.
It’s what she keeps dreaming about, even if she doesn’t want to keep dreaming of such scenarios.
It’s hard to let go of the past, especially after 500 years.
You feel really bad for Furina in the dream, right? I felt bad writing it aha
As you may have noticed, it’s sort of a parallel with what happened in Furina’s trial!
Particularly the end where everyone looks away from Furina. There are a lot of parallels within this story, which I hope you were all able to get!
It sounds like I planned all this extensively beforehand but I really didn’t lol
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about Fillian!
Just like in Resolution of Water's Complexity, we have a character I made up for the story. I hope you liked Fillian!
They/Them pronouns because yes. We support our non-binary friends here.
Honestly, I started writing with those pronouns and it sort of stuck so I kept it that way. I hope I didn’t mess up the pronouns anywhere!
They are a producer and a pretty good actor that plays a huge part in the story.
Pretty much, I wanted a character that was genuinely nice to Furina.
Furina deserves to have at least one person she could truly consider as a friend.
They weren't initially going to have such a huge part, but just like I did in Resolution of Water's Complexity, I wanted to make everything connect.
The name Fillian just came to me while I was trying to work out what name to give them. It's a bit strange, but I feel like it's something you would see in game.
Fillian was the one who danced with Furina at the Fountain of Lucine at the beginning of the story.
Even from the beginning, they were so kind to her. That’s just how they are.
It looks like that they like her, but not in a romantic sense! Although people seem to take it the wrong way, as seen lol
They truly care for Furina. The kindness of them is something Furina can’t truly understand at times.
The interaction when they meet again near her house was so fun to write. It sounds bad what Fillian tells her, and just kept getting worse and worse for her…
It made me laugh. I hope it made you laugh too!
My favourite part is when Fillian gave her the dress she wore in the second act.
I saw that so vividly in my head. The way they would hand it to her, and the way Furina took it...
The fact that they said the same words they did back at the Fountain of Lucine…they truly are something.
Fillian was so fun to write!
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about the play next!
This idea came about when I was writing Fillian and Furina's first interaction after the Fountain.
I needed a reason as to why Fillian came up to her. It was the only thing I could think of, so I made them a producer who was also an actor who wanted Furina to act in it.
As you can obviously tell, Filia is Furina and Neuron is Neuvillette. I wanted it to be obvious lol
The initial plot of the play took over 1000 words to explain as I tried to make the plot.
I wanted the plot to loosely resemble Furina’s life. Only if you knew Furina, you would notice.
Particularly, the fact that Filia was playing a role as her older sister who was named Flora.
The name Filia came about because I wanted it to sound like Furina somehow. I couldn’t think of a better name that wasn't too obvious.
Flora was a name I chose because it starts with F and it alludes to Focalors in a way. Even though we already have an NPC named Flora in game lol
Even though Furina played as Filia, I still wrote Furina as you may have noticed. It might be a weird choice, but I felt like it made more sense since Furina was pretty much playing as herself.
I mentioned how Furina has different hairstyles and outfits for the play. This all came about from the concept designs for her!
Tumblr media
When I saw these, I fell in love with them. They’re all so good! I had to add them into the story somehow.
Luckily for me, I had the whole play idea!
So Furina can change her appearance drastically because of her vision. I mean, it’s not that far-fetched since she can change between her Ousia and Pneuma forms.
This was the only way I could think of justifying how Furina changed her hairstyle.
For Act 1 and 2, Furina has this hairstyle and this is the outfit that I described!
Tumblr media
For Act 3, Furina has this hairstyle and outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's what I hoped I conveyed!
At the beginning of the play, Furina freaks out because it reminds her of her dream. See what I meant by parallels? There's another one right there!
It affects her so much so, that she breaks down in the middle of the second act.
That was painful to write, the fact that she thought she ruined the whole play too?
Fillian was the true MVP here. The way they comforted her, and didn't belittle her for anything. They even wanted to shut down everything in the middle of it!
But Furina couldn't do that. She wouldn't. Even if she was all hurt, she would finish waht she started.
And then it only makes things harder for her at the end of it all when she sees Neuvillette up there.
He was truly up there, by the way. He only left because he couldn’t handle the intense emotions he was feeling at the sight of Furina crying.
Unfortunately, Furina didn’t know that. And that was the final straw for her.
Furina running out of the Opera Epiclese was something that I wanted to make as emotional as I could.
I used a lot of mirror imagery and ideas in this story, and it is quite evident with when she goes to see herself in the Fountain of Lucine's waters.
Hands drag Furina into the Fountain. I chose hands because I feel like hands are pretty scary?
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about what the hell happened at the Fountain of Lucine. I’m sure you are all wondering.
I’m going to refer it as a crazy dream here.
Neuvillette explained it as an overflow of the Hydro energies within the Fountain of Lucine. It reacted to Furina’s emotions, and caused manifestations within the waters based upon past memories, and Furina’s own ones.
I hope that made sense! I literally just made up the explanation because uh…I had to justify why that all happened!
Pretty much, Neuvillette’s emotions were in such turmoil that it affected the Fountain of Lucine, since it was in close proximity to him.
He can control the whole Hydro Element now, after all.
If it was just the skies before, why not something as powerful as the Fountain?
It was shown before in Neuvillette’s Story Quest that he could look through the memories there.
Since it’s where all the waters converge, the Hydro energies within it became unstable.
Furina’s deep emotional pain resonated with the unstable energies when she was next to it, which caused this crazy dream to occur.
Yet this dream truly could hurt her.
It was so unstable that it made her memories come into reality with the past.
It’s like how Vacher saw the people he killed with the Primordial Seawater.
This part was heavily inspired by two things:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Moon by Naoko Takeuchi and ENA by Joel G!
A bit of a strange combination, but let me explain.
I got really into ENA around the time the video Power of Potluck released. I love how strange but interesting it is. It’s really good, I recommend all the videos!
That’s where this whole part came to be after I watched said video.
I stole the whole act idea from it, and wanted to make it as weird and crazy as I could.
It’s so strange but interesting at the same time, right? Just like ENA. Or it’s just weird and you question why I wrote it at all aha
The acts were named after each of the Archon Quest names.
Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur
As Light Rain Falls Without Reason
To the Stars Shining in the Depths
Cataclysm’s Quickening
Masquerade of the Guilty
I suppose it would be best if I went through each of the acts one by one and explained a bit about them!
1. Prelude
This one is practically a parallel to the first act in Power of Potluck, it was my major inspiration.
ENA is sort of floating through this place full of pipes. And in my story, Furina is floating within water.
Neuvillette appears as a voice! I wanted to bring Neuvillette in somehow, and I thought that would work the best.
A voice Furina can listen to and follow, even if she didn’t recognize it was him in the first place.
The reason his voice was cutting off was because his own powers going out of control in his haste to save Furina.
As Neuvillette explained at the end of the story, the light was a memory he accessed for Furina to go into, although it was rather random.
2. Rain
Since this act is called Rain, I wanted to relate it somehow to the idea of it.
And that’s when I thought Furina could go back in time to when Neuvillette’s predecessor, the Hydro Dragon was alive.
I made her assume Egeria’s form, because that’s what the memory was.
Egeria meeting the Hydro Dragon in Fontaine somewhere.
I made up everything here by the way, who knows if Egeria was even close to the Hydro Dragon back then?
The reason the Hydro Dragon's form became Neuvillette was when he entered the memory, he took over the Hydro Dragon in the memory.
When did he take over it? Around the time Furina reached out her hand towards the Hydro Dragon, probably.
So Neuvillette heard all her thoughts and feelings. I assume he has full control of the memory, but even so...those hands never stop do they?
I hope it was interesting to read!
3. Stars
This one was heavily inspired by Sailor Moon. I stole the whole hooded figure and River of Forgetfulness idea from it.
I was trying to think of what I could do for this part, and I was reading Volume 12 when it came to me.
In this volume, Sailor Moon and her companions go to a river of sand in order to reach their destination. They meet a hooded figure in a boat.
Sailor Moon and her companions go on the boat, and the sand turns into water and drowns them all in the River of Forgetfulness, doomed to forget everything about themselves.
I made the hooded figure Focalors, since I did say that she could be seen within Furina’s reflection.
I also foreshadowed it when Furina thought “You’re here, aren’t you?” before those hands took her into the Fountain.
Her role was to be cruel and crush Furina down until she was all broken.
I had a lot of fun writing the conversation between Focalors and Furina.
Once Furina sinks down to the bottom of the river, Neuvillette comes to rescue her. Furina has forgotten herself pretty much, but comments in her head about what she hears.
I used this as a chance to hear Neuvillette's side of the story. All this time, I made you think that Neuvillette wasn't truly there any of the times before.
But he was! And we find out his true feelings about everything, including his love for Furina.
He tells her his true name, and it makes her remember! She wakes up, and then Focalors appears again.
Neuvillette here finds out that he did hurt Furina. We don't get to see his reaction to it until later on, but it was the catalyst.
Surprise, surprise! Focalors is actually an Oceanid! And every single fragment of Furina you've been hearing about.
Uh, I'm not sure how much sense it makes, but I was trying to make it sound like each of these fragments were one of the people lost in the Poisson incident.
Or uh...I don't really know lol
The ending of this was abrupt because Furina was forced into another memory.
Even though Neuvillette tried to protect her, everything is still too unstable.
4. Cataclysm
This one, uh...I don't really know why I wrote what I wrote lol
I wanted to reference the first dream again, but decided to bring in Filia and Flora? And the Guillotine that ended Focalors?
It's probably the strangest one out of all the acts, but I like it!
The Personified Fear and Fearful Harmony Filia and Flora talk about are references to the PS1 errors. I love console errors, and these two are some of the coolest ones.
youtube
youtube
The ending was also pretty much cut (get it) short by the Guillotine shooting down.
Who knows what really happened at the end?
5. Masquerade
This one was just an excuse for Furina and Neuvillette to dance. I really like dancing!
I was imagining something like this for Furina's look for this act, but I couldn't be bothered describing it all lol
Tumblr media
Furina dreamt about this whole scenario before. I thought it would be something she would dream of lol
It also sells the fact that this was all real and that it was based on memories, as Neuvillette explains later on.
It also foreshadows the future kiss if you know what I mean 👀
Here, Neuvillette asks the same question regarding love.
Was it love that made him hurt her?
Of course, it all ends before Furina could actually give her the answer. I like to make things painful.
And that's the end of all the acts! I hope they were cool to you!
I really like them.
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about what happened when Furina “woke up” from the crazy dream.
This is the most emotional part of the entire story, it hurt to write it.
I made Furina think it was all a dream. And this was the final straw for her. She breaks down completely.
She goes to the mirror once again, and tries her absolute hardest to smile. She thinks that smiling would help, but she couldn't do it.
I had the idea of Furina pounding against the glass very vividly, and had the idea of making it actually shatter but I thought that would be too much.
Still hurt to write it.
I did have a bit of trouble working out how to bring Neuvillette in. So, I made him a wall.
Furina did say he was like a stone wall, right?
The reason Neuvillette hugged Furina right away is because he was basing off what he saw in the play.
When Furina was crying there, she hugged Fillian tightly. So it was the same idea here!
When he says to lie down, it made me laugh for some reason. It just sounds out of place, so much that it was perfect.
I feel like the rest is pretty self-explanatory! I hope it was a fitting end to it all. It hurt me to write the part where Furina basically tells him to go away.
THE KISS. TWO KISSES ACTUALLY. THE WAY HE GOES BACK IN FOR ANOTHER KISS YEAHHHHHHHHHHH
Ahem.
I made them kiss because yes I needed kissing.
When Neuvillette mentioned how it looked like Furina would disappear, and the whole star in his chest comment and Furina;s explanation...that I stole from Sailor Moon too lol
The disappear part was from Volume 4, when Usagi is with Mamoru in his place after Chibi-Usa wanted to stay there. Mamoru hugs her from behind, thinking how it looked like Usagi was about to disappear.
And the star in his chest was from the very end of Volume 10, where Mamoru put a hand to his heart and wondered why his chest was so warm, as if there was a star inside of it. And Usagi explains how everyone has a star in their heart.
That was sort of the end to this saga!
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about the very end.
I wanted to write something a bit more lighthearted as an epilogue.
Here, Furina is finally getting that cake Fillian said they would save a few slices for her.
She's wearing the dress she wore in Act 2 of the play, with her vision attached as well!
But of course, we have Neuvillette appear, who looks like he's a scary dog from afar lol
I wanted them to dance again. I like dancing, and I feel like it's a good parallel to what they did in Act 5 of the crazy dream, and what she did with Fillian.
I keep doing the whole "Neuvillette is a wall" thing, sorry. I just really like the idea.
I wanted Furina to know that it was him who gave her vision to her. I mention the vision multiple times, so I thought it was a good way to end it all off.
My favourite part of all this is when she says 'I love you" to him, and the waters shoot up. It's so darn adorable!
And with that...the story is complete. Basically 43k words later.
Tumblr media
After all this time, I managed to finish this story. It took me forever!
Thank you for reading all of this, I hope you enjoyed learning about my thought process behind it all!
I love these two to bits.

Tea Prompts!
Link to the prompts here :)
Tags: Kaeya, Albedo, Diluc, Dainsleif, Tartaglia x gn!reader(separate), fluff mostly, angst if you s q u i n t, Diluc/Kaeya story spoilers
milk tea; what are their kisses like?
Kaeya Kaeya kisses like an avalanche, sudden and passionate and heavy. He’s not coy, he’s not slow, he knows what he wants and his kisses reflect that. Pulls you in by the waist or cups your cheeks and tilts your face to his. He tastes faintly like wine, which is funny, because his kisses leave you breathless and intoxicated, wanting more.
Dainsleif Slow and meaningful, every kiss has a place and a time. A reason behind it. He’s touch starved and afraid and that shows in the way he grips your jaw and holds you close as he kisses you like it’ll be the last time every time. He doesn’t know the meaning of soft, there’s only you, and him, and his never ending quest to defeat the Abyss. He tastes like the mixed drinks he consumes at night and during the day he tastes faintly of something you couldn’t begin to explain.
Tartaglia His kisses are suffocating and are never short or without some sort of battle for dominance. He kisses like the ocean, pulling you down and washing over you with his essence. He tastes like how you imagine victory would taste, it's all very interesting. He’s a lot of tongue and teeth and gripping you tight no matter who is watching, he doesn’t care, he just wants to show you how he feels, and oh boy do his kisses somehow always convey how he feels.
Diluc Heated and needy, so so needy. He’s touch starved but in a really different way than Dainsleif. Away from prying eyes he’s touchy and needy, hands roaming your body, your hair, you. He’s so warm and he tastes like cinnamon hearts. Diluc insists one hand must be in his hair at all times when he’s kissing you, and his hair is so soft and fluffy it’s hard not to indulge. In public he prefers chaste kisses but he’s not above pulling you away for a proper kiss.
Albedo Experimental, curious, it changes every time. He always tastes of chalk and the lollipops he steals from his fellow captain’s desk. A surprising amount of less lip on lip action, he likes to roam with his mouth, find out what makes you tick, where to kiss to get certain reactions. Sometimes he’ll reenact a scene he read in one of Lisa’s romance novels. He’s just curious and his kisses and their always changing nature certainly reflects that.
peppermint tea; what do they get excited about?
Kaeya Kaeya is versed in a lot of things. Perfume making, hand to hand combat, horse training, how to read body language, wine in food, wine in drink form, wine in general. But nothing quite gets him excited like a good chat about the wine making process. He learned from his adopted father what goes into making a good wine, and perhaps he’s not part of that family anymore.. But he still remembers how they do it and the intricacies always excite him. So much goes into a fine wine you would not believe- And look at that, he’s been talking for the last hour and for once Diluc isn’t annoyed. You win :)
Dainsleif History, ohhhh my archons. He can talk about history all night if you let him. He talks with his hands when he’s excited about something, drops whatever he’s holding to start gesturing wildly like how the French do? It's cute. Besides history though, he knows, much like Kaeya, quite a bit about alcohol and has no qualms discussing what makes a fine drink. And beyond those two facets of his personality. You’ll find he gets quite excited over.. Flower crowns? Make him one and his eyes light up, star pupils widening as he puts it on. You swear the stars became hearts for a second there..
Tartaglia Man loves fishing like all the chads do. Can talk about fishing all day. Can talk about battle strategy all day, too. And how fishing is good battle practice- Focus, Ajax. Right! He likes dogs, feeling their soft fur between his fingers. He also gets really excited when you ask about his family. He’s pulling out his wallet where he has at least two dozen photos of his siblings and parents. He’s got a massive family, you realise very quickly as he lists their names and little things about them. It’s the only time you’ve ever seen his dull eyes shine, even though it's just a smidge. There’s a shine when he talks about his family.
Diluc Tell him you’re thinking of learning the piano and watch how quickly he pulls his gloves off and leads you to the grand piano in the winery. Invites you to sit beside him so he can teach you the basics. He’s incredibly skilled at piano, and wants you to share in his hobby. Can talk about pianos all day, apparently he knows how to fix them too? Even if pianos are dull to you, indulge him. The way he lights up is to die for, he’s not one for idle chit chat, but pianos?? Man won’t shut the fuck up. Truly, it’s nice. To hear him talk so much
Albedo Another one for the mundane shit tbh. Flowers, light sweet foods, science, dusty old tomes, the truth of the universe- His curiosity is his ‘excitement’. He doesn’t show excitement like the others but you can tell he’s excited when he’s talking about a species of flower and his words sort of slur together as he talks at a fast monotonous pace. Or when he finishes an experiment and you’re the first person he runs to with the results like he just uncovered some great big thing(everything is a great big thing in pursuit of the truth!) You’ll notice that he actually really wants to share his curiosity with you. You. You make him excited, his favourite lab partner.
pomegranate tea; at what point did they know they loved their s/o?
Kaeya When he realised you saw past his lies. The “I’m fine, dove! What? Want my attention?” sort of lies. The moment you began to see past them, you started to hold him, but you never really pushed beyond letting him know you were there. That’s when he realised he had done the unthinkable. Kaeya Alberich had fallen in love, with you. And honestly? Screw the ancient plot. With you by his side, he could conquer the world, but he’d much rather wake up to your kisses instead.
Dainsleif Dainsleif hates to admit it, but he is the kind of man who falls in love with everything around him. The flowers that bloomed despite the harshest conditions, the comforting breeze, water against his skin, the stranger on the street he just passed. So he had always loved you in the way he loved everything. But he realised he really loved you when you traced the leylines on his arm, no fear, no hesitation, just adoration in your eyes. Watching you, he realised that while he loved everyone and everything in the way a guardian does. There was nobody he wanted to protect more than you.
Tartaglia Some may say it's when you bandage his wounds with worry and panic, when you show him that you love him. But really it's when you listen to him talk about his family, talk about how he actually didn’t like his job but he had to do it, for them, he says. And you never judge him. Running your fingers through his hair as he recounts his regrets, when the bloodthirsty warrior persona is gone and it's just Ajax, the boy who liked to fish and listen to stories. When you’re just you, the person who cares about him underneath his title. Love is such a strong word, such a strong feeling, but every time you look at him when he talks.. He loves you.
Diluc Another one for team loves too much, truly. He’s so scared all of the time. His family is gone, and he blames himself for it, he pushed Kaeya away, he couldn’t save his father in time. So accepting that he loved you was not something done easily. But watching you interact with his brother, being kind to someone he still loves who he knows is suffering. Your kindness as Kaeya’s smile falters just a little bit. It's then that he realises he loves you. And the moment the last patron is gone he doesn’t hesitate to bury his face in the crook of your neck and tell you how he feels, no matter how scared he is.
Albedo Love? What is love but a chemical reaction? Albedo doesn’t understand relationships let alone love. All he knows is his heart ticks faster when it sees you, the pulsating grows louder in his ears and it confuses him more than anything else. Watching you interact with Klee, smile on your face as the young girl shows you something or another. Albedo wishes to study this feeling, understand his diagnosis. Is he dying? Contagious, perhaps? Book after book and his answer lies in commitment and he wonders if he can commit. But then you look at him as he rambles on and on about a topic he’s well aware you don’t care about and he decides. Yes. He can commit.

My Mythodea Adventure - Part 3
Day 3
This day started off with us finishing the translations, and another battle. As we were finishing up breakfast, our scribe friend from the day before came running up to our camp and yelled “You guys are fighters right?”, we all looked at each other, and went “Eh, not really.” He shook his head and said, “When the bell at the Council rings, come to the temple, because if the battle goes bad, we need fighters to protect the temple.” - we mumbled that we would. He told us that in the meantime we could help with the war effort by giving out water at the battlefield, and that he had a cart we could take with us.
Tumblr media
Kenna and Cerriel went to take the cart and fill it with water, while I finished translating the documents. Me and Nova then went to visit the scribe, to hand over the translations. We then joined Kenna and Cerriel to help get the cart to the battlefield.
We spent the next hour or so lugging the cart around the entrance to the battlefield, filling cups with cold water and handing them out to returning warriors. The sun was out, and it was quite hot - especially for those wearing full plate armour. People kept chugging the water and expressing their gratitude for what we were doing. We even handed out water to the GMs! It was honestly very rewarding, and we even earned our first in-game copper as people were very thankful. If you find you’re ever useless on a battlefield, there’s other ways you can be helping and this one was a lot of fun!
Tumblr media
When the battle wound down, we returned the cart to the council, and asked the scribe for our documents back. He asked us ‘why’, and I said ‘So we can donate them to the library’. He immediately said “Of course!’ and then handed us a bunch of documents and told us to donate those as well. We then headed for the Temple of Terra, where I immediately set down and looked through the other documents the scribe had entrusted to us.
They included a letter about the Temple of Terra and how plants and animals had been disappearing, being sold on the black market, and how we should collect money to buy them all up. It also included a hand-drawn map of two levels of the underground tunnels at the central temple, including codes, notes, passageways and other points of interest -- apparently a group from the Explorer’s banner had gone in there earlier, and made this map. I quickly copied it into my own notebook. While there, we noticed that there were two mushrooms growing near the temple that matched the ones we had a drawing of.

We then headed towards Trost, and on the way, we passed by the Explorers Banner alchemists. I headed towards them, and I noticed they had the same mushrooms on one of their tables. One of the alchemists looked at me curiously and asked if they could help me with anything. I pointed at the mushrooms and asked them if they knew what they did. He said “No, some people brought them to us but we don’t know their properties.” I smiled, and patted my book, and said:
“Would you like to find out?”
At this point, two more alchemists joined in the conversations, and I told them that the mushrooms could be used to enhance potions of healing. They were very interested in the information, and I told them I could leave the book with them for them to copy. They were happy. I then said it would cost a couple of copper. The alchemists looked at each other, then called in their keeper of coins. We were paid, and I handed the book to them with the promise to come by later to pick it up again. At this point, the main guy talking to us noticed that the beaker he had been experimenting with before we arrives was burning, so he turned around going “Shit! Fuck!” and tried to save it. We left him to it.
I had now discovered information was valuable, and that we could make a business out of this. My sisters were also slowly discovering that selling information was actually fun to do.

We headed to Trost and back to the Atelier, where we found our slippery slope friend. I showed him some of the documents, including the new documents, and asked which one he would be interested in. He told us he was interested in the underground map, and the mushrooms. I asked what he could pay us. He told us ‘Are you only interested in money, or do you want to make it more interesting?’. I asked what he had in mind, and he told us he could give us a favour instead. I asked what his kind of favours entailed, and he said that he could ‘make problems disappear’.
We all looked at each other, but because I wasn’t quite sure how far this favour could go, I asked ‘Can it make people disappear?’. He grinned and leaned back and said ‘I can even make the problem that the person disappeared, disappear”.
He looked us over, and then said; ‘As I get the strong feeling you all have a bone to pick, I have to tell you - Archons will cost more.” This caused my brain to blue-screen, because Archons are very powerful people - basically leaders of the different banners chosen by the elements. This meant that everyone under the level of ‘Archon’ was apparently fair game --- this was a very powerful favour!
Tumblr media
My sisters and me nodded at each other, and then I shook his hand and gave him the map, and told him I would come by to give the mushroom info later - as it was currently not in my possession. We witnessed several more ‘projections’ at the atelier, which were interesting, but I won’t get into. While leaving the Atelier, me and my sisters lost our composure and gushed at each other about the favour we just had required, and that we didn’t even have enemies, but we almost felt like we had to kill someone just not to disappoint our demon friend.
At a certain point we headed back towards camp, and passed by the fire temple. We completed our quests there, and received several more fire elemental pearls. We then went on to collect our notebook and make dinner. Near our campsite, we met two of the french scholars again - both flora and fauna guys, and we immediately shared the fact that we had info on mushrooms if they were interested. We showed them our campsite, and one of them asked us if he could swing by later to copy it. After dinner, he came by as promised, we gave him some of our food and he diligently copied our info - and our map - and then talked to us a little bit about ourselves and about their group. As a thanks for our info, he gave us one of his hand-drawn maps of mythodea! It is very beautiful, and must have cost a bunch of work, and it is currently hanging on the wall above my computer at home!

After dinner, we wanted to head back to the atelier to give the mushroom info to our demon friend. We passed by the temple of fire again, and what do you know! Our Queen of Dragonflies was back, and apparently in some sort of stand-off with champions of the banners in the fighting ring. It had started to rain.
We joined to watch, and in the middle of her speech she turned to me and my sisters and tried to embrace us, under the watchful eye of about a hundred settlers who had been gathered there. When she reached for Nova, several soldiers behind us yelled NO - and tried to get to her, but were to late, as Nova reached out and hugged her. Next, she reached out for me - and still being under the enchantment spell, I reached out for her.
Tumblr media
I grabbed her hand, but then was violently grabbed from behind and dragged into the crowd by a bunch of soldiers and priests, who held me back and yelled at me not to fall for her magic. I yelled that she had my sister, and one of the soldiers looked upset and told me they would try their best to get her back, but for now I must only watch her from afar and not get too close. Apparently they did the same to Kenna, although I missed this in the ruckus.
We watched the proceedings - several champions stepped forward to fight against the champions of the Queen of Dragonflies, and also the Lord of Pestilence. While this was going on, I noticed a mage among the soldiers who snuck up to people who were enchanted, and would grab them and perform dispel magic on them to bring them back to their own sanity. We eventually wound up not watching the fights, as it suddenly began to rain very hard -- and as most of us didn’t have on a sturdy cape, we fled to seek shelter in a nearby tavern.

After the rain had calmed down, we went back to the Atelier, where I found Radavan. It was somewhat busy, and he was sitting on a throne next to one of the other keepers of the Atelier. When he noticed us, he told the other keeper to go get some beer, and laughed that ‘Not that I’m trying to get rid of you or anything.”. He then invited me to sit next to him on one of the thrones, ‘an honour not bestowed on many people’. I accepted the invite, and we laughed through the pleasantries, before handing him the information. He asked us if we were there to acquire the favour, but I told him not yet. I think maybe he was expecting us to ask him to kill someone right then and there, but we decided to hang onto the favour for a while more.
After this we went to a couple more taverns, bought a bottle of celtic fire whiskey, and spent some time drinking while walking around Trost. At around 12:30, we remembered we still had to complete the water temple mission - so we walked out of Trost through the south, past the middle temple towards the other banner.
Tumblr media
It was very, very dark on this field, with not a lot of people around. It was also misty (a lot of the nights were misty). This meant that we were walking around a wide, open field in the pitch dark, while in the distance you could see this gray mist hang across the grass, only slightly illuminated by the campsites behind the trees. It was like a movie set.
We were… slightly tipsy at this point, and as we neared the gate to the Adamant banner, I said “I think the gate is closed”. My sisters disagreed, but I could see the gate now, and it looked pretty closed. Suddenly, a guy ran up to us from out of the darkness, his sword held above his head - ready to strike. We all took a step back, and yelled out in surprise. I think he immediately noticed we weren’t a threat, and he lowered his weapon. He looked us over and said the iconic line:
“The gate is closed right now. Also, we have a slight problem with undead on this field.”
At that point we looked around a little more clearly, and indeed, one could see shambling figures all around us in the dark mists. We were all like, NOPE, NOPITY NOPE. The soldier then said:
“But you can maybe make it to the smaller side gate, if you’re fast. Maybe.”
We all went; NOPE, thanks! -- Cerriel and Nova immediately turned around and completely booked it off the field, leaving me and Kenna behind as we stumbled behind them. Halfway across the field, Kenna stopped so she could readjust her cape - and Cerriel came back running towards us to scream at us “NO!! You do NOT adjust your CAPE in the middle of a field of UNDEAD!! Hurry the fuck up!” - at this point, I was laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face.
In the end, we made it to our campsite safe and sound, and vowed to only visit the other banners during the daytime.

-The galaxy map in Andromeda is stunning; the visuals are absolutely gorgeous and it’s cool to feel like you’re flying in three dimensions instead of two. However, traveling can be a little slow, and once I got used to it I started getting more impatient to get on with the game. But hey, there’s no loading screens.
-Is... is no one else concerned that the only planet verified to support dextro-amino life is now basically space dust? Because that, to me, seems like kind of a big deal. Where are the turians going to raise crops and livestock? But Vetra and the other turians have said nothing about this so far. Maybe when I find the turian ark it will be discussed?
-Even though I helped out the kid at the AI-hating cult with his implants, the rest of the group attacked me when I accessed their computer terminal, and I had no option to reason with Knight on the Nexus. That was disappointing.
-As much as I want to like Cora, she’s taking the asari emulation a little too far for me. If they wanted someone to represent asari doctrine and culture, why didn’t the devs add an actual asari huntress to the crew?
-Somewhat big spoilers here: Apparently Jien Garson was NOT the main funding behind the Andromeda Initiative; there’s some mysterious benefactor who was spooked by something back in the Milky Way into providing funding for colonization efforts. So... did someone believe about the Reapers and want part of the Milky Way civilization to survive? And who is the benefactor? (Please don’t say Cerberus.)
-When is my brother going to wake up?
-The game says I’m somewhere around 50% completion, but there are so many sidequests padding out this game, and a lot of them I have not done. I have no idea how far I am in the main quest, but I have completed all of the loyalty missions except Peebee’s and my next main plot goal is to go after the Archon’s ship. I’m trying to finish getting outposts established and crew quests done in case this is nearing the end of the main plot, but I really have no idea.
-I just got to the krogan outpost on Elaaden and I love it? All the messages on the terminals about the krogan adjusting to having males and females live side by side instead of segregated are gold. They were having trouble with courtship rituals so they followed an earth tradition and held a dance? And it sounds like people died? And now they are all watching romance movies, omg. Amazing.
