When I was a kid I was always annoyed by the way movies would make dogs the heroes (always) and cats the villains (always), and so I simply rooted for the cats.
Anyway I do think it's damaging to the perception of cats as a species to be labeled as dogs "opposites" and thus lack all Dog Traits like Loyalty and Enjoying Companionship that leads to absurd assumptions even adults hold about cats being psychopaths??!? I'm not kidding when I say multiple people I know have used "psychopaths" to describe cats, and like yeah that's not 100% kids media that treats cats as Horrible Villains fault but like it does fuck me up that grown adults never seem to progress past that in their understanding of cat behavior.
#winters ramblings#like first of all cats probably are not capable of psychopathy on account of they work different#which isnt to say animals dont seem to exhibit mental illnesses sometimes anyone with an anxious animal knows that#but psychopathy?? thats something thats still somewhat contentious to label PEOPLE as due to our poor understanding#of how it works so applying it to CATS and your evidence being NORMAL CAT BEHAVIORS??!?! this is genuinely damaging#ill tell you cat misinformation is HIGH and it leads to a lot of fucked up assumptions about animals people consistently#compare to a species they DONT BELONG TO and then act like theyve failed to measure up to a standard they CANNOT meet#now other animals get this too and its worse for anything more unusual than cats and especially for bugs and reptiles#but like also can we stop this childish binary nonsense with animals that are not comprable??
