You were tucked safely in your living room's couch. Levi had placed you there before heading out. He also put a ridiculous amount of blankets and multiples plaids on you, the man had been overprotective with you since you announced your second pregnancy to him. You'll never forget the glint in his eyes when you told him the news while showing him the test.
Next to you, on a little table stand, he had left you a warm cup of your favorite tea. The man has been buying it for you every time he goes groceries shopping. Forcing his immoderate love for tea on you, which you found endearing.
Today, you were feeling quite tired. You would usually be reading a book, the local paper or something else to keep your hands busy. You would make a crochet work or a little thing to soften your discomfort and forget about the nausea mostly. But this afternoon, you felt numb and weary, you wiggled your feet covered in a lovely pastel colored socks, your eyes bounced between your toes and your son deeply immersed in his coloring activity.
Your little one was coloring in a book you got him to keep him busy during the holidays. Your eyes trailed your little boy's movements. You eye followed the colors filling the different shapes and forms. You were completely focused by a vivid blue color your kid was using to give life to a big iris flow when you felt something in your front. A strong, insisting pain, one you never felt in a long time caught you off-guard. You clutched the white plaid and debated internally if you should stand up or stay seated. The pain was awful, but it couldn't be the time yet, you were only five moths pregnant.
You were probably experiencing a false labor, you thought to yourself, remembering your first pregnancy.
The feeling weakened, only to intensify seconds after. You clutched the plaid some more, wiggling painfully your feet, trying your hardest not to alert your kid who didn't notice anything, and was still clearly focused on his work.
You tried to forget the pain, you counted slowly, then quickly to distract yourself. You tried counting the books on the shelves facing you, attempting in vain to divert your focus from what was going on inside your expecting body. You kept counting the books by their bindings, and the moment your eye was focused on the novel on the last row, you heard Levi getting in the house.
You heard the familiar rustling of the paper bags holding what was probably groceries. Without being able to control yourself, you jumped off the couch, almost bent in half, surprising your kid who finally turned around to see why you were moaning in pain and grunting.
"Mom ?
"It' okey baby, it's nothing, i just need to-"
In a vain attempt to make a feet in font of the other to get to Levi, you stopped panicking when you saw him already standing in the door frame, eyes wide and mouth agape. He soon realized what was going on and hurried to help you stand still on your two feet.
Your child looked both horrified and disoriented, not knowing what to do. He hurried to the kitchen, where you heard him pour you a glass of water that he brought back running. The act was sweet and caring. Even though it wasn't what you needed right now, you found the strength in you to pat his head and thank him, the gesture brought tears to your eyes.
Levi had a small smile tugging at his lips at your son's gesture. He was holding you and trying to make you sit back on the couch, trying his best to soothe you. Every one of his touches was full of affection, he was extremely caring when you were expecting a child, and you couldn't thank him enough for that.
"Levi, I think we should explain to him what's happening, he seems even more stressed out than me." you pointed out with a shy giggle.
"I know what's happening, Mom ! You're having a baby !"
You and Levi both froze at the comment, you didn't even know your child understood this kind of thing.
"Yes little one, we're going to have a baby but not right now" you said with a relieved and joyful laugh.
"Are you excited to be a big brother ?"
Your child shook his head frenetically up and down to confirm his excitement, looking at both you and Levi with incredibly big and hopeful eyes.
"You think you're okay ?" Levi asked, still a little worried about you.
"Yes, i think the pain is starting to lessen"
You caressed the growing bump under your dress lightly, while trying to maneuver yourself back on the couch. You looked at Levi who was trying to answer all the questions his son was asking about his new role as a big brother, promising to Levi to be the good and kind type, the one who will protect and love his younger sibling.
You smiled absent-mindedly, looking at the two most important persons in your life, whispering softly to the third one to come.
"We're waiting for you, our little joy"
