November: From My Own True Love
Challenge: postcard
Mail time!! To celebrate finishing my MLIS (Masters of Library & Information Science), my postcard features library hand—which is what they used to fill out card catalog entries before the typewriter became popular :)

February: Sucker’s Prayer
Challenge: dust it off
———
For this one, I pulled out a jar of rocks I from my first trip to the Oregon Coast, found some of my oldest brush pens, and dredged the bottom of my paper stash for pieces I’ve probably had for 20 years
This line was the obvious choice, because my whole life, pretty rocks have always found their way into my pockets. (Apparently, my kindergarten teacher had a drawer full of pea gravel I kept bringing her?!) It was fun to put some of my new watercolor skills to use, and try to depict some of my rock collection with these dusty old Zig brushes :)

I’ve been doing this Lettering the Decemberists thing for a while now, and I usually only post my own work, but I have to show you the stunning piece of mail I received today from the other half of this project, my amazingly talented friend Sara. Here is her heart-shaped take on O Valencia. I can’t stop looking at it. (It’s kinda funny that I focused on the sweet part of the song and she focused on the revenge.) She’s not on Tumblr, but you should go check out her other cool art on instagram!
