[long post, all text]
i was gonna put this on the ad/vent twitter but then i remembered this is going to be fucking long and i have a tumblr that none of my family reads lmao
thanksgiving is a fun time where you get to learn which cousins are gonna turn out to be the future conservative uncles. and you find that out by learning that the cousin who went into financial shit idolizes elon musk. to preface this, i like my family and at least on my end there are no hard feelings, and i guess he probably saw this as an argument but for me it was just a tiring discussion lmao. (also this is like one out of a lot of cousins rn)
i think out of all the wild shit his view that it's the business man in the inventor/business partnership who should get all the credit is quite possibly the Worst. elon made smart investments, he clearly deserves to have an actually inconceivable amount of wealth. in dissecting this, it became clear that not only is he ok with worker exploitation, he believes "well anyone can share in that all you [me in this context] had to do was invest all your money years ago in tesla" which ok first of all if i had done that I would've been evicted??? "it's liquid" ok but like... my rent can't be paid in tesla stock and i'd cycle through it way too fast to build any meaningfully sized investment you do finance you talk to me about short/mid/long-term goals.
in attempting to explain how "it's much easier to make money when you already have money and actually it's much easier to just Do Things when you have money already" to him, it became clear that he doesn't understand what systematic inequality means. his example was the classic american dream argument that anyone can make a billion dollar idea, his friends quit their jobs last week and raised like two bajillion dollars in their series-D(eez nuts) venture capital round or whatever the fuck. i think the exact statement was like they "quit their job they had for three years and just started programming in their bedroom"
which ok let's unpack that one huh?
"quit their job they held for 3 years" - aight so in tech you often get a massive signing bonus and a big-ass salary so you've got 3 years to save for a startup runway
"just started programming in their bedroom" - ok sure but they also graduated from a top-tier university and had 7 years to build skills for this
furthermore, they graduated debt free! of course they can quit! they're not paying off literal mountains of debt.
i also almost guarantee they also had the right connections for venture capitalist funding from this experience
you guys all see the problem here right i don't have to explain that here or keep going.
it turns out it's really hard to get an upper-middle class jewish white kid who has never experienced actual consequences to recognize what privilege means.
like i kinda get how that view forms now. of course anyone can start a business and raise billions of zollars in venture capital, and of course you can do this because you went to a good school and graduated with 0 debt. his friends did that like last week, and he's basically never had to worry about that stuff either. everyone else? just work! it's that easy (l m a and i can't stress this enough o).
the kicker is that he's ok with this system because "it's just the way it works now" and furthermore he doesn't care to change it. actually maybe that part hurts more. every day i see how the systems we (people) have set up fail friends that i love and artists and creators that i respect. i've got friends who work absurd shifts and get home too burnt out to actually work on projects the like, i've got friends still paying off debt and struggling to make rent every month and we're almost all 30. and this guy is just walking around thinking "oh yeah it's totally fine that elon has a fuck-jillion dollars he deserves it :)" like no!!!!!! do you hear yourself????? you're suck here too bitch! you're not even in the 1%! you just don't have any lower-income friends and it shows your whole ass.
...
ok i think this post makes it seem like i'm mad but i'm really just tired. i am so tired of living in a system that values accumulation of "wealth" over people, and i benefit from this system! i'm relying on the fuckin made up "numbers get big" stock market to fund an eventual down payment on a house. and it still sucks shit i think i actually actively resent how this stuff works. i don't even know what to do to be honest, and im sure as hell not perfect, but at least I try y'know by supporting artists i like and voting (lol) i guess.
aaaaaaanyway this way of thinking honestly sucks so fucking much i don't know how he lives with himself it just sounds like such a joyless existence. sure dude you have a great time getting high in your dad's hot tub, partying it up with your bros, making money (i guess?), and generally just keep thinking "this is fine."
despite all this i really do wish him the best. that's what family is for. but given the nearest opportunity i would absolutely take all of his assets, liquidate them, and give them to my friends to pay off their loans. and then just tell him, "what? you can just make another business :)" and be on my way

Who you are (Hamish Duke) Part 2
Summary: You were an Adepti for The Order but you were also a spy for Gnostic council. The council called you back to Belgrace to spy on Vera after the recent werewolf attacks which is when you find out something about one of your old best friends.
Words: 1611
Requested: Yes
Prompts:
Warning or A/N: Part 3 is when it picks up
Tumblr media
You walked into the Temple with a bunch of members running around doing multiple things. An acolyte bump straight into you spilling some kind of mixture all of you. "I'm so sorry Adepti. I didn't see you standing there,"
You were annoyed about it at first but you remembered how hard it was when you were an Acolyte. You half smiled and looked at them. "Look, take a deep breath and relax. I know it's hard your first year but just remember to take a deep breath,"
The acolyte smiled at you. "Thank you,"
You nodded and walked past the acolyte and dodged other members and into Vera's office. "Why is the temple so busy?"
"Coventry,"
You rolled your eyes. "What is he doing now?"
"Elemental Transference, what's all over your shirt?"
Your eyes grew big at the mention of that. "Some acolyte spelled something on me and for who?"
"Renee Marand. What did this acolyte look like? I'll make sure they'll clean up after the ritual,"
You quickly walk over to the chair and sat in it. "Nah, don't worry about it. Isn't she that necromancer that was kicked out?"
"She is,"
"Does the gnostic council know?"
Vera nodded. "Oh don't worry about spying on Coventry. He's trying to find all the pages to the Vade Maecum Infernal,"
"The Vade Maecum is-"
"Dangerous. I know. Edward wont listen to reason,"
You shook your head. "What does this have to do with Renee?"
"Necrophone,"
"The same Necrophone that lets you talk to the dead? I thought that was just some story?"
Vera shakes her head. "No. It's very much real,"
You sat back and started thinking that maybe Vera was right to suspect the Grand Magus but you still were wary to spy on him. Anyone that gets in his way, gets killed and you liked being alive too much to die. "Why does he want it?"
"Something to do with the Vade Maecum and how he thinks that the necrophone will help him find the pages? I don't know and I don't know what he wants with the Vade Maecum either but I have a plan but I cant execute it until after the transference is over,"
"What's the plan?"
"All you need to know is heal Renee, get the Necrophone and find the remaining pages,"
Edward walked into Vera's office and you quickly stood up from the chair. "Yes, Grand Magus. Is there anything you need me to do?"
Edward puts his hand on your shoulder. "You looked more and more like your mother each and every day,"
You were a legacy, that's why you went through the levels so quickly was because you were practicing magic all your life. You've known Edward since you were little. Hell, he took you in after your parents have died when you were tenish. "Really think so?"
He nodded. "Yes. She..both of your parents would be so proud of you,"
"Thank you sir,"
He nodded. "And no, we got everything under control for the time being. We'll let you know when it starts."
You nodded and started to walk out of the office but Vera called you back. "Hold on,"
You turned around and looked at her. She walked up to you and handed you a book. You looked down at it and it was the werewolf manual. "I know we haven’t had a recent attack but you can never be too careful,"
You nodded and walked out of the office and noticed that one of the cauldron was bubbling and Jack was walking away from it. You shrugged because you didn’t know if it was suppose to do that or not since this was your first transference ritual.
--
It had been a few hours since Vera gave you this book and it had taken you just as long to read it. It was a very hard book to read because one it HAD way too much information, drug some points out, and some of it was written in a different language which you had used magic to read. You were just about to stop reading when you read that both human and werewolf forms had a different smell to them. Human form while smells like whatever that human smelled like and the smell of the wolf smelled like warm fur.
You rolled your eyes at the information because that was obvious. You felt your dog's nose rub against your leg. You looked at your dog and smiled as he laid down next to you. You quickly put the book down and went to sniff your dog's fur as he was a wolfdog and his fur was always warm. When you got the smell, you were with a familiar scent. It was the same scent as Hamish, Randall, Jack and Lilith had but your dog's scent was overpowering like theirs were.
Could they really be the werewolves that attacked everyone? Could Hamish?
You were on your way to find Hamish when you saw Jack and Kyle get into a van and drive off. You got back into your car and followed them to a warehouse and saw them start to load people into the back of the van, which you were guessing were the elements. You then see Kyle trying to drive off but something had a hold of the van and then it was let go and Kyle run into a wall. You couldn't see what had ahold of the van cause if you were to move, you would've been spotted. You then see Lilith walking up to Jack's side fully naked. You quickly cut your hand and said the words of a spell that allows you to hear what someone is talking a distance away.
"You wanna explain yourself, asshole?"
"This isn't what it looks like,"
"Really? 'Cause it looks like you're driving five people to their slaughter,"
"I didn't know that,"
"Now you do and we're going to stop it,"
"No, the Grand Magus is after something and I need to know what it. You can't stop it. I won't let you,"
"You think I can't take you?"
"You think you can take Silverback?"
There was a moment of silence before Lilith walked away.
Whose Silverback? Why was Lilith naked?
--
After Lilith had left, you did too. You were confused as to why Lilith wants to stop the ritual and not to mention how she knows about The Order. You got back to campus, you walked into Blade and Chalice, you started to walk the bar when you heard your name being called. You turned and saw that it was Randall waving you over. You were hit with the smell of warm fur again. The same smell you smelt on your dog but more intense. "Y/N! How are you?"
"I'm good. Where's Hamish?"
Randall shrugged. "Probably, doing teacher assistant things,"
You chuckled. You couldn't believe that Hamish had decided not to become a lawyer because that was the main thing he had always talked about. "Fun,"
"So you travelled around the world?"
"I did,"
Randall was about to say something but his phone went off. He looked down at his pocket, pulled it out and read whatever was on the screen. He grabbed his drink and chugged it before standing up. "Gotta go meet up with Hamish and Lilith. I'll catch you later?"
You smiled and said of course.
You waited a few minutes after him leaving before you got up and left to go after him. He had walked a good few minutes into the woods before you saw a house. A house that looked completely abandoned on the outside. You waited till he was inside the house before walked up to one of the windows. You tried to open one of the windows but it was locked. So you did the same hearing spell you did before. It wasn't much of anything but you saw Jack walking out of the woods. You didn't have to move to hide because you were already in a well shaded area.
Lilith started walking down the stairs. "You're such a fucking hypocrite."
Hamish tried to calm her down. "Okay, lets take a breath,"
"You have the nerve to give me shit about eating some monster's heart, but you turn around and drive a van full of people to their death!"
Randall looked at Jack in shock "You what?"
"It's the Elemental Transference. The spell needs willing sacrifices. Five of them,"
"You're supposed to be sabotaging it. Not helping,"
"I did and we were up and running around again in twelve hours."
"Dude...We're you're we,"
"So you failed. You admit it,"
Failed what?
"No. Look, I talked to Coventry. I saw it in his eyes. He's so desperate for this spell, he'll do anything. He'll risk the entire Order, and we need to know why.
Why is Jack telling them this?
The rest of the conversation was talking about what the spell does and how it's possible and how Jack needed to know what Coventry was after.
"Randall, you wanted an inside man. Let me do my job as a Knight,"
That's the second time you heard them calling themselves Knights. What the hell are they talking about?
"Then go,"
You saw Jack nodding his head and walking out the door.
What are the Knights? Why does Jack desperately need to know what Coventry was after? Why are Hamish, Lilith and Randall want to stop the ritual? Why did Jack tell them?
You were so into your thought and didn't hear the window opening until you heard your name. "Y/N?"
You looked up and saw Hamish looking at you.
"Hi,"

We are not just friends — Part 10
Chris Evans x bi!latina!character (Sofia is a people of color, she's brown.)
Chris and Sofia meet when their best friends started dating, it all started at friends with loads of bumps on the road.
Warnings: drinking, smoking, drug use (weed), assault, Chris being Steve Rogers, commitment issues, my girl Sofia kinda messy, lots of fucking (eventually)
This is slow burn at its best, at least emotionally.
Series masterlist
Tumblr media
Sofía was in a meeting with Chris's publicist, his assistant, and lawyer as they all went through the contract along with the brewery lawyers.
"My client had already told me to give whatever your asking," The lawyer spoke and Chris's publicist kept eyeing her. "so, this is more a formality."
"We already discussed it, just a photoshoot. We're going with the social media route of promoting." Sofia explained and the lawyer nod a few times, she was on the last page of the contract.
Sofía looked at his publicist and the woman kept looking at her phone and then back at her, multiple times like she was trying to figure something out.
What the fuck? Sofia kept thinking and she heard Chris's voice carrying from the other side of the co conference room. He had arrived a while back but Ron and his kid were giving him a tour of the brewery that was barely getting it together. Nothing was set up but the skeleton was there and Chris was delighted.
They still haven't really seen each other, until this very moment, the first thing he did was stare at her, puppy eyes and everything and Sofia was acting like she was already over it, guess Chris wasn't the only actor in the room.
Of course, Ron started his usual little speech as they signed the contracts, even cracked the champagne at nine o'clock. The photoshoot was going to be after lunch as the crew gets the things together—Ron had really splurged on the production, he really took it to himself on how much money he was saving.
Sofía could see from the corner of her eyes as Chris was discussing something with his publicist, she kept discreetly pointing in her direction as Chris looked something on her phone. He kept shaking his head no, getting quickly irritated.
When they both turned around to look at her, she quickly looked at the other way—attention back whatever she was doing.
"Sof," Chris called her, voice soft. She looked up and he was right there with his publicist. "I need to show you something."
"What is it?" She asked and the woman asked if they could speak somewhere else. "Yeah, the office." Sofia leads the way.
"Thanks for the privacy," The woman said, and Sofia nod. "I don't care what you two are doing but I do care about this," She said showing her the paparazzi pictures of Chris and her when she arrived at the stupid party yesterday. Sofia could practically remember everything they talked on that brief moment, her full face was on display.
"Oh," Sofia explained and blinked a few times. "Well, shit,"
"And you didn't have anything to do with it?"
"Megan." Chris cut her off and the girl just rolled her eyes.
"He's insisting that you didn't but I gotta ask, I'm just trying to protect Chris's privacy."
"Megan, come on," Chris interrupted her.
"Wait. Are you asking me if I staged this?"
"Did you?"
"Sofi, I know you didn't, you don't have to answer, look Megan—
" It's okay and no, I didn't. Chris you know I would never," Sofia said looking at him, whatever what had gone down last night she would never break his trust like that, she loved and value their friendship to do something like this.
"Yes, I know," He touched her arm, looking at her apologetic. "I'm sorry I'm dragging you into this, I was sure there was no one."
" I'm glad you weren't, I just have to ask. The pictures are already out and you guys were on the street there's not much we can do." Megan explained. "For now you're the 'mystery woman' but I'm sure with time they'll find out who are you." She locks her phone and put it in her purse and looked at Chris.
"Okay, I'll deal with it when it has to deal with it, I'm cool with it." Sofia shrugged and Chris stared at her.
"This doesn't bother you?" Chris asked.
"It bothers me for you because I know you're a very private person but no worries for me, I'm pretty much obscure on social media, all I do is tweet about how much I hate Donald Trump and re-tweet dogs pics."
"She does," Chris nods and she shrugged again.
"Okay," Megan said looking down at he phone again. "Do you wanna release a statement or…?"
"I prefer not brought more attention to it, I'll leave it like this," Chris said and sigh, looking a little bit defeated.
Megan, the publicist, finished up the talk and quickly excuse herself, leaving them alone in the office.
"We should probably," Sofia said looking at her watch and tried to walk past him but of course Chris wasn't going to just let her.
"Can we talk?" He asked and she sighs.
"Chris, it's really okay,"
"No, it's not. I'm sorry I disrespect you,"
"You obviously still had things to figure out and I just don't wanna be in the middle of that. We are friends, if you need to vent with me I'm here, always." Sofia explained, leaning against the desk with her arms folded against her chest.
"Sof, I already figured it out," Chris said walking up to her. "I don't, I don't want anything with her. It's done -
" Yeah, her tongue down your throat last night didn't necessarily say 'I'm done with her',"
" Shit. I know, can we call it a lapse in judgment? " Chris made a face, he truly didn't know how to salvage this. Sofia was difficult and stubborn and he had fucked up.
"Call it whatever you want," She shrugged and sigh deeply.
"Hey," Chris said grabbing her hands as she kept looking anywhere else but him. "Hey, look at me," She did and closed her eyes.
Don't Sofia, don't don't. She kept thinking because he was so fucking attractive, she just wanted to kiss him all the time.
"I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry. I was a complete asshole and I shouldn't even try to explain, I fucked up it was my fault."
"Yeah," She pouted.
"But, I did figure it out—" Sofia was about to interrupt him again but he was quicker. "I know it didn't seem like it, but I did."
"And?"
"I wanna be with you, Sof. I don't wanna be just friends—
"Are you fucking with me?" She squints her eyes at him and scoffed." I'm going just to pretend you didn't say anything because I like my job." Sofia muttered and walked out of the office.
"Jesus Christ," Chris muttered, running his hands over his beard and sigh.
~~~~
Christofer Robert Evans was relentless, couldn't take no for an answer and Sofia was about to snap at everyone at any giving moment. Between Chris trying to make a truce, Ron losing his shit constantly, his fucking son and friends that were fucking around the brewery, and on top of everything Amanda kept blowing her phone.
"Sofia," Ron called her and she walked up to him and his son that was chatting with Chris.
"What's up?" She said walking up to her and he took her to aside.
"I'm going to send you back to Boston for a while," He said and Sofia was about to cry.
"Oh God, thank you I fucking hate this place so much." She said making a face and Ron laughed at her expression.
"I know, I can see the amount of pressure that I've been putting you into this last couple of days and you did more than deliver. You deserve a little break,"
"Oh, man. Thank you," She sighed with relief. "Everything here it's pretty much set up, the machines are getting installed this week, everything with the bank it's already resolved, permits too. Thanks to Chris's lawyers, contractors are coming at the end of the month… I mean everything it's on track, at least for a week." She explained pulling out her cellphone and Ron was amazed.
"You pulled this off in a couple of days, I'm never letting you go, that's for sure," Ron said and made a gesture. "So, he likes you." He pointed at Chris with his mouth and Sofia roll her eyes. "And I thought you were only into Chicks."
"That's why your wife loves me so much and I have a weakness for pretty white dudes, it's pretty unhealthy if you asked me." She said with a smile looking at Chris for a moment. "it's complicated right now."
"Shit I bet, guess he's really into you by doing all this pro-bono. So, I'm going to be absolutely a greedy selfish man and said to trap this one." He said pointing at his finger and Sofia let out a laugh.
"No way, man." She shook her head. "Let's focus on beer and stop talking about my non-existent love life, after crazy bitch Tiffany. I'm done,"
"Yeah, and I thought my ex-wife was crazy, you definitely got it worse," He put a hand on her shoulder and murmur. "Good rebound, uh?" He pointed at Chris.
"Ay por Dios, Ron." She rolled her eyes and he laughed, walking away toward his son and started saying their goodbyes to a Chris.
"Ah, men. Listen, just be patient with her," Ron said to Chris while they shake hands. "She seems tough but she's all fragile inside, treat her right." The men said as he put another hand on his, squeezing a little bit.
Chris got the point right away.
"Yes, sir."
