my favorite thing about Jedao Two is 1) he has dysphoria over having Jedao Prime’s body and 2) rather than fantasizing about being made some preferred different shape, he sublimates both the normal body dysphoria and his trauma over being created in the image of a mass murderer into constantly fantasizing about being made for a different purpose whenever he encounters an obstacle. OH YEAH and the TTRPG confirmed that all the hexarch seats save Shuos turn over by the hexarch appointing a successor. We already knew this for Kel and Rahal (I think from DW somewhere but I don’t remember) but it wasn’t explicit for Nirai and like. This doesn’t add a lot to the situation beyond what’s already in the series, but it does confirm that Kujen knew he was next if Esfarel died.

anyways since discovering from the timeline in HXX Stories that Esfarel was not just Kujen’s research partner but the previous Nirai heptarch, I have been convinced Kujen secured his position as Esfarel’s heir and then just straight-up committed regicide via black cradle. Like. He’s so fucking certain that he can preserve Jedao’s mind despite having nominally had a 50% failure rate thus far. There’s no way the previous heptarch’s death was simply an accident of a minimally-tested research prototype.

(plus there’s that bit in RS where Mikodez says Esfarel had to “convince” his anchor to destroy both of them. Miki’s understanding is limited but if we take it at face value: Kujen doesn’t have to convince his anchors of SHIT — he has full command of the body whenever he wants it. And whether or not a revenant has the ability to take control of their anchors is something Kujen can, demonstrably, turn off and on.)

((This creates an interesting little parallel slash moral wrinkle: the series takes the stance that having to resort to regicide is a grim, dangerous situation, but it’s basically morally justifiable to kill dictators and may be the only way to move forward. But one of the things that makes Miki sympathetic is that he didn’t commit regicide for his throne despite being expected to, and everyone thinks he did actually do it. Meanwhile, nobody seems to think Kujen is a regicide, but the thing that happened to Esfarel is widely regarded with horror by everyone who knows about it. Kind of neat!))
