Mojang Say no to Blockchain and NFTs With Minecraft
Hey, here's some good news regarding NFTs! Lalalalal Mojang has released a brand new guide to the rules around NFTs and Blockchain.
There are a myriad of scams in the world of NFTs, specifically when it comes companies using "blockchain" when they don't really need it. Thankfully, Mojang have listened and issued some rules, and the gist is that "integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are not something we accept or support" they said.
Their latest news article provides a brief intro to what NFTs are, and gives a brief overview of the reasons they have rules for server owners and creators of content, which in brief is to "ensure that Minecraft remains a community where everyone can access the same content". Part of the problem is how NFTs "create models of exclusion and scarcity which are in contradiction to our Guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft".
Mojang will make their position clarified on this issue, stating that "As such, to ensure that Minecraft players enjoy an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated into our Minecraft server and client applications, nor are they utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, such as worlds, persona items, skins, or any other mods. ".
This is great, because it will hopefully stop another Blockverse that was intended to be a "on-chain Ethereum NFT that could enable a unique P2E on Minecraft". Can you guess what happened? They took a lot of money and then went missing with the money.
However they're not ruling out using blockchain in Minecraft if it might "allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive gaming applications" but they're currently no plans for it as of right now.
