Tumblr media
In return, I knitted (well, technically 'double' knitted!) an Alliance scarf for her!

Thank you so much, my friend, and may the scarf keep you warm this winter!!! <3 <3 <3

Double Knitting Alliance Scarf Pattern/Chart
So, I promised @commanderogerss I would share my charted design for the double knitted Mass Effect Alliance scarf I made that looks like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the easiest way to show it was to put it in an Excel spreadsheet.
As with any Double Knitting project, you are essentially making a reverse image on the back side of the design even though the chart only shows one. For those new to DK, what you knit on the facing side you are purling at the same time in the opposite color (if that makes sense).
I learned how to double knit almost a decade ago, but I did seek out a couple of youtube videos to refresh my memory to both casting on and the process, and later on at the end for casting off. These are a couple of the videos I used.
casting on:
binding off:
(one other note: I used two stitch markers at each end to remind myself of slipping the last two stitches otherwise I forget lol)
There are plenty of DK videos on youtube you can watch if you have any DK questions at all!
Here is the chart I made. Just a couple of things to note:
built in 2 stitches at each end
don't forget to twist the yarn when you turn to 'hook' the colors or you will end up with a large gap to sew up later
length I ended up with was roughly 5 feet (60 inches) in length, but you could go longer.
I knit 4 rows of solid color before I started the pattern, then another four rows at the end before casting off.
Tumblr media
I hope this helps! Have fun and good luck! Feel free to ask questions, if any arise. And please, if you make one, tag me so I can see it! <3

Finished up my first big project for 2024 last night. I started this back in...2019, I think? It got set aside and then lost in the move and I eventually found it back around Christmas 2023...and promptly set it aside until the holidays were past. I did remember where I put it, however, and so since roughly Jan. 1, I've been working on getting it done. I should add, I was back in the mid-lighter purple section at that time.
Yarn is from Wollelfe and it's their "Curry & Saffron" gradient. Pattern is theirs, called "Trilogy." Just need to give it a good soak and block it and it will be good to go!

to prove I actually have been doing crafty things this summer - the Virus Shawl. Would have added another repeat or two, but I got so frustrated with the yarn (4 ply but not twisted) catching on my crochet hook, I stopped there. Still a good size to wear as a scarf. Love the shift from red to black, too!
Yarn is Sultan Shadow Black/Red from Hobbii.

Also for WIP Wednesday, started what I hope will be my Christmas gift to my son this year. He's been wanting a new 'blue blankie' (what he called his first one when he was a toddler) for a long time now. My mom, before she passed, had started one for her, but I haven't found that yarn yet since we moved last year. (I know it's up there, but I still need to organize the crafts room/closet) I DID, however, find about fifteen skeins of this Bay Harbor blue Lion Brand Wool Ease chunky. Hopefully, that'll be enough to make at least a square for his bed (Queen sized), if not a larger rectangle. I know he'll love it - he always does when I make him something like this - but I do want it to be big enough to keep him warm!

There is something so meditative about winding yarn...
My first two spinning attempts with the espinner have finally reached workable yarn stage! They're now sitting in the craft closet waiting for the right project.

Tour de Fleece 2023, day 3
Hell Week for work started today, so I didn't get much done, but I have switched to the next (larger) drop spindle and have made some progress. (I LOVE these spindles! lightweight and hold a TON!) Also worked on a new knitting project today, getting it set up and started (double knitting. haven't done that for the better part of 7 years, but it's slowly coming back to me...).
Not sure if I'm going to work tomorrow or not (nice to work from home! lol) but if I don't, you can be sure I'll be spinning up more of this. Heard from the company I'm getting the new pedal for my e-spinner from and it'll be at least a week before I get it (they have to get it sent to them first). That should give me enough time to get this spindle and another filled with the red fleece, I should think.

Decided to start spinning up some more yarn yesterday. Spindle one is done! Time to start spindle two!
(And one of these days I’ll find my buddy noddy and finish the other two that are done! It’s been misplaced in the move. *sigh*)

Tour de Fleece, 2023 - Day 4
Finished up the old red roving. Also heard from the company I'm supposed to get the new pedal for the e-spinner from and sounds like it's going to take an extra week (so much for trusting online inventories) to get it. Probably will continue with the rest of the red roving from the e-spinner and, if the new pedal fixes things, jump right into my planned spinning for TdF23 once it's up and running.
For those of you interested (and those who've been commenting on how pretty this red is!), it's Wool of the Andes from KnitPicks, colorway Garnet Heather.

6 weeks ago, I ordered an Ashford e-spinner as a birthday gift to myself. Because the place was out of stock, I had to wait for Ashford to ship one over from New Zealand.
Today, it arrived...and for the first time, I've been able to use a spinning wheel! My Ashford Kiwi and I are not yet on proper speaking terms, but the e-spinner? We're creating beautiful music together! OMG, how have I lived without this?????
Anyway, pulled out a roving I've had lying around for a while to start with and I've managed to get what might take me a full day by hand done in about 45 minutes.
I am so excited!!!!!

Spent most of this week packing for the move, but rewarding myself each day after packing a good number of boxes with a row or two of work on Mom's shawl. (She's passed and this will end up mine, but since I'm working on two different ones at the moment, it's the easiest way to differentiate them) I really love how the pearl beads show up against the teal colored yarn! This one is going to end up so pretty as a result!

and...voila! One Starry Night cake of yarn. The darker color bled a bit during the wash and the lighter colors aren't so bright now, but it still looks really good! Can't wait to have a chance to knit this up!

@the-original-sineater and @painterofhorizons - this is what I'm spinning from. The colors are GORGEOUS! My original plan was to play the two spindles of them together, but I think now I'm going to find a second color (I need to see if my goldish-yellow is compatible) so that I can make the most out of this yarn that I can! I'm hoping to have enough to make a small shawl or scarf - I have a pattern in mind, one I made years ago, that should do nicely if I have enough yarn! Might even get some beads to use again, too!
In the meantime, I've got it about half spun up now. Not sure if I'll get it done today or not, and I'll need more time now that I'm going to use a different color for the plying, but I'm getting there!
