Wrong translation in The Princess Maidmer and I - part 2
The original sentence in Japanese is: 戦場における苛烈さの反動から享楽的になる兵士も多い中で、俺自身はそう羽目を外しもせず、私生活も慎んできたつもりだ。部下に示しがつかないということもあるが、理由の大半は恋愛面に重きを置く気になれないからだ。
Which roughly translates to: Although as a repercussion of the relentless battle fields, there are many among the soldiers who seek pleasure but I, myself intended to act with restrain and be chaste even in my private life. It was because I didn't want to set a bad example for my subordinates at the same time a major part of the reason was that I didn't feel like giving any importance to my love life.
This has been wrongly translated on baka-tsuki to: Since soldiers respond in extreme ways in a battlefield, many tend to look for pleasure outside it. I too acted without restrain, and thought I should act the same in my private life. Perhaps this was caused in part by the bad example set by my subordinates, but for the most part it's because I wasn't accustomed to value my love life.
I don't own the booklet so I'm not sure if there are more of such mistranslations, I just found a pic of the page and spotted this line. I'd love to read the entire story in Japanese, I would be really grateful if anyone can share scans or even mobile pics.
Attaching the pic I found for reference.

So...the nostalgia trip continues.
Current obsession is KKM. *Sigh*. That stands for Kyou Kara Maou. Or ‘Demon King from Today’ is the English name for it I believe.
It’s an extremely weird series and the official translations were not as good as the fan translations in my opinion, so we might have different understanding of the whole thing if you watch it now.
ANYWAY! The point is, I have this indescribable urge to discuss one of my favourite pairings of all time:
Conrad x Yozak!
(He’s officially called Josak, which makes more sense, but like, I like the Y damn it!)
In this essay I will talk about the confusing and complicated relationship between these two characters in which no one can tell whether they’re actually friends or soldiers that were part of the same army at one point in their lives.

Hello! I think you're now the Yuuram prophet XD so I think you can help me with this. Is it ever explained what is exactly the Maou? I mean the Maou who shares a soul with Yuuri. What is it exactly? Where did it come from? Why was Cheri the previous Maou if technically Julia was the vessel before Yuuri? It just never made sense to me because the anime never explained it
Hello! Oh wow! Plot points explanations, okay.
The 'maous' are just a 'kings/queens' chosen by Shinou to rule the land. (this has nothing to do with being 'keys/vessels')
The 'keys'(vessels that you were talking about) are people with 'pieces of soushu' attached to 'souls' that 'open the boxes that contain the soushu'. These people were NOT related to Shinou.
The soushu according to the novels and the MaHon Encyclopedia Maru-mania (you can google that to find it) are 'entities that tried to swallow the entire world'. So when they were defeated by Shinou and a 'group of brave people' they were sealed into four boxes.
Why Cherie? Well… Cherie gave birth to 3 out of the 4 keys for Shinou and (in a cd "Secret" (written by the author) and novel story Gaiden04, Chapter 7.1, ) it is implied that Cherie is Shinou's descendant. This means Cherie following Shinou's command had 3 keys with potentially his blood (this is likely to be a plot point, but we never got there in the novels). (And she probably wouldn't have been able to do so if she wasn't the maou.)
More info about Cherie here https://marumafan.tumblr.com/post/164589863984/cherie-post-kkm
more: https://marumafan.tumblr.com/post/639340971871600640/i-just-read-the-post-about-cherie-andwow
-In 56. Kyou Kara MAou! Seisakoku DX! Return Trip, Disc 01 , track 8 Shinou and the Great Sage (these cds were written BY the author, also I think this is in manga?), Shinou and Daikenja talk and you can see why Murata left with boxes and keys…
-Shinou is just a 'strategist' trying to get all the boxes and keys back. And if you ask me, making the keys have his blood through Cherie just has something to do with that.
-Also in one of the gaidens, I think Gaiden 2, it's said that Yuuri's parents were chosen according to Shinou's specifications. So Shinou wanted something from Yuuri's parents specifically *(it's not said what), and chose them to make the body for the soul with the key.
----------------------------------------
-What about the 'maou' (Uesama)? According to the encyclopedia
"Uesama (上様)The personality that appears when Yuuri activates the super maou mode. It has a low-pitched voice, speaks in difficult and complicated words, with the characteristics of half-assed historical drama lines. (Novel 2) "
It's interesting to note that they listed his first appearance in the SECOND novel although there was a Uesama in the first novel (when he fights Wolf)
Here's more info about Yuuri's soul and the soushu and all that over here:
https://marumafan.tumblr.com/post/169402082789/about-the-boxes-and-the-keys
https://marumafan.tumblr.com/post/169401741489/info-about-yuuris-soul
https://marumafan.tumblr.com/post/176647242649/maruma-analysis-soushu-what-is-happening-here
Lastly about Yuuri and soushu: Murata tells Yuuri in Gaiden 4 - Chapter 7,2 about how Yuuri 'may end up like him' , with all the voices of the previous lives in his head (and maybe taking over him)? So that he needs to be careful . I think this is mentioned again in Prison arc.
-------------------------------
Lastly, it's important to remember that when the novels started the author had NOT thought about the boxes plot at all, or vessels or anything like that.
The OG reason why someone became maou was "because Shinou said so".
-------------------------------
I have a bunch of analyses here, some about Julia and her life and death too: https://marumafan.tumblr.com/moarkkm
Edit to add: Furthermore Julia was probably a newborn when Cherie was named maou (Julia was about Gwen's age I believe?). Also, sending Conrad to retrieve the arm could have been part of Shinou's plot, killing Julia and using it as a way to make Connie get Berard's arm. (He traveled with one key : Julia, and came back with the other key: the arm), seems like keys and boxes can both travel easily.

Kyou Kara Maou! S images
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, they announced last year in January that MaruMA was getting a new manga series called "Kyou Kara Maou! S" that was supposed to come out last summer but it never did, I don't think they ever said why it just didn't happen? I haven't been playing enough attention to this series though. They've just published a few pictures on comicbushi and I swear I was looking at the past pictures a few days ago when they posted chapter 0 for Yuuri's birthday that I just translated but now they've taken them down so I had to search the internet to try to find backups of them... I think I found them all? lol
They might not be the best quality anymore but I didn't think about downloading them when they were still up a few days ago. Since I didn't see that they were going to expire and they had been up for months.
Maybe now that they've published chapter 0 they'll actually start publishing the series.
There's also a short story from Takabayashi that they published for new years that I've been meaning to translate up on the comicbushi website but I saved that months ago I just need to work on it lol.
I also have 2 drama cds that came out in 2018 and 2019 that I am planning on translating soon too.
So here's the translations for these images
The first one of Yuuri and Wolf was published in January 2021 when they announced they were making a new series and it says
"It's still a bit in the future but please look forward to it~! (Matsumoto Temari: artist)
I thought about what the "S" stands for. Going in order of sa, shi, su, se, so: Surprise! Hot water (Sapuraizu! Sayu), Short! Shishamo (Shoto! Shishamo), Setup! Alderfly (Settoappu! Sennpuri), Sword and Sheild! Soumen (Sodo and Shirudo! Soumen). Choose whichever you like! (Takabayashi Tomo: Writer) "
(TN: This doesn't make much more sense in Japanese that's as good as I got lol)
----------------
The second one was published for valentines day last year and it says
Yuuri: Japanese chocolate is good, isn't it? That white one has a strawberry in it and this place one has alcohol in it.
Conrad: I like black so if it has brandy in it that's even better
Gwendal: ......
Wolfram: Your retainers shouldn't eat black things, it's disrespectful! ......so I'll take the white one. Note near Wolf: Black is the color of nobility for Mazoku
Paper on Gunter: Banned from chocolate. (So he doesn't get his juices on them)
---------------------
The third one was posted for white day and it says
Note: At the Shibuya Household
Shouri: Last month there was setsubun and national foundation day and this month is the vernal equinox. There's no time for whatever white thing you're talking about
Yuuri: Eh? But there baseball season opens this month, too
Murata: Like I said, this doesn't have anything to do with white day but I baked some cookies
(TN: I feel like there was a second part to this image but I can't find it online.... RIP second part. If you have it let me know lol)
------------------
The fourth picture doesn't say anything it's just for Yuuri's birthday last year.

Wolfram's Gamble (Yuuram)

Additional Tags: Jealousy,Demons, Established Relationship, Post-Canon, paranormal ritual, Halloween vibes, relationship test, Mild Sexual Content, Nudity
Summary: In an attempt to strengthen their relationship, Yuuri and Wolfram perform the maiden's gamble ritual.
Read on ao3
Wolfram attempted to get out of bed, but Yuuri pushed him back down. “No!” he ordered. “No getting out of bed until you feel better.”
“But I can’t let you go alone to the ball,” Wolfram protested right before breaking into a coughing fit.
Yuuri sat on the edge of the bed and gave him a concerned look. “I’ll be fine. There are plenty of guards around. Besides, Conrad will be there.”
Wolfram narrowed his eyes. “Neither Conrad nor the guards will bat an eye if you flirt with the gaggle of ladies attending.”
Yuuri rolled his eyes. "I will not flirt with the ladies."
Wolfram scowled. "You always flirt with the ladies."
"Dancing with them isn't flirting, it's being polite."
Wolfram attempted to huff but it turned into a cough. Crossing his arms, he asked, "Is it just polite when you dance with me, too?"
Yuuri frowned. Why couldn't he trust him even after all this time? "That's different."
"Why?" his fiance pressed.
"Because you're special."
"How do you show it?"
What was he getting at? Of course he was special. "We're engaged, we share a bed, we have a daughter…"
"Not that," Wolfram cut him off. "What do you do when we dance?"
Yuuri took a second to think. "I smile and talk with you."
" And don't you do that with the ladies you dance with?"
That wasn't fair. "It's awkward to dance in silence and rude not to smile."
"Yeah, well, it's awkward watching your fiance flirt with other people and rude to make your fiance watch it."
Yuuri almost told him not to watch then, but that would be mean. Instead, he sighed and rubbed the back of his hand over Wolfram's forehead which was still warm to the touch.
"You still have a fever. You need to stay and rest."
When Wolfram just continued to give him a displeased look, Yuuri asked, “Can’t you trust me?”
“Not to flirt or that the flirting doesn’t mean anything?”
Yuuri sighed. “Can’t you trust me that regardless of whether it seems like I’m flirting, I’m not meaning to and that you are the only person I want?
“How can I trust that I’m the only person you want when not that long ago you were saying the exact opposite?”
Yuuri frowned and took one of his hands in his. “I know I hurt you before, and I’ll apologize as many times as you want. You were never who I imagined I would want to be with, but you are. You mean so much to me, Wolf.”
Wolfram visibly deflated. “I believe you. But you already changed your mind once, so how do I know you won’t change it again?”
“I won’t.”
“Even if you say that, you still might. If I let you go to this ball alone, you may never return to me.”
Yuuri squeezed his hand. “I would never do that.”
Wolfram’s voice was sad. “Of course. You’d come and tell me at least.”
Yuuri wanted to yell at him for even thinking that he could ever do that to him, but that wouldn’t fix this problem. What he needed was a way to prove his devotion to him and him alone. He needed to do something that would stop him from ever doubting him again. But what could he do?
“Wolf…” He looked meaningfully into his eyes. “Let me go to the ball while you rest. Then when you get better, I’ll prove to you that I won’t ever change my mind again.”
“How are you going to do that?”
“I’m not sure yet, but I’ll figure it out.”
Wolfram huffed. “Sure you will.” He laid down and rolled over so that his back was to him.
Yuuri waited a few minutes, but Wolfram said nothing more. He took that as his go-ahead to leave for the ball.
The ball was dreadfully boring without Wolfram there. The beginning half of the ball wasn’t so bad since he could turn people away with the excuse that he wanted to keep dancing with Greta, but he could only keep that up for so long. Eventually, it was her bedtime and the ladies became too insistent to ignore any longer. One lady after the next wanted to dance with him. Making polite conversation with them all was even more exhausting than the dancing itself. Yuuri managed to spend a bit of time with Murata, Conrad, Gwendal, and then Gunter, but even that time wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as if he had been able to spend it with Wolfram.
By the time he returned to his bedchambers, Wolfram was fast asleep. He was glad because he had not been able to come up with any good ideas on what he could do to make Wolfram trust him.
He could offer to take a truth potion, but Wolfram already said he believed him. What Wolfram doubted was the fact that he might change his mind. They could use an artifact to witness their futures, but that could have some horrible consequences, and based on their previous experiences, they would probably only end up misunderstanding the future. Besides, even if they did see that future, what about the future beyond that future? Wolfram might still doubt him. There had to be something he could do. Maybe some sort of love spell or binding spell or something like that.
As soon as Wolf was feeling better, they could go to Earth and look some up.
Wolfram seemed to think that the entire thing was stupid, but he went along with Yuuri to Earth anyway. “Spells are meaningless. If I cast a spell on you, then you won’t have a choice any more,” he said.
He had a point, Yuuri realized. Doing that would stop Wolfram from doubting him, but it would only make him worry about other stuff. So maybe instead of searching for spells, he should search for tests.
When Shouri was gone, he snuck Wolfram and himself into his room to borrow his laptop. As usual, a million tabs were still open containing dubious content. Opening a new window entirely, he searched “relationship love test.” The only results for that were quizzes that would tell you if you were in love or not. Yuuri didn’t need a test like that to tell him if he was in love or not. Next, he tried searching, “how to prove my eternal love.” This only came up with a light novel about playing some sort of game.
A game, huh? Maybe that was what he was looking for. Wolfram might not take the results of a game seriously, but what about  something similar but more serious. Like a ritual or a ceremony. Curious, he searched “ritual to prove your romantic love to your partner.” A lot of sweet mundane tips were suggested. This wasn’t the sort of ritual he was looking for. Scrolling through some pages, however, a post caught his eye. Do you trust your boyfriend?
Yuuri opened the link and skimmed through the post. It seemed to be what he was looking for. If he had Wolfram do this, Wolfram couldn’t possibly doubt him any longer. Yuuri was scared, though. What if he really was capable of changing his mind? What if he suggested this and then Wolfram had to pay the ultimate price because of him? Maybe it was better to let Wolfram keep doubting him after all.
Right when he was about to click off of the page, Wolfram peeked at the screen from over his shoulder. “Did you find something?”
“No!” he answered quickly before closing the tab. Luckily, it went back to the showing the home screen rather than one of the illicit images on one of the open tabs.
“That didn’t look like nothing. Didn’t it say doing what it said would lead you toward staying happily together forever?”
Damn. Yuuri kept forgetting that Annissina created that potion some time ago that now translated text before Wolfram’s eyes.
Yuuri turned around to face the blonde. “It did,” he admitted. “But it’s too dangerous.”
Wolfram put his hands on his hips and puffed out his chest. “Don’t be such a wimp, wimp.”
Yuuri bit his lip. “Yeah, but you’d be the one in the most danger.”
“Then there’s no problem,” Wolfram replied immediately. “I can handle a bit of danger.”
Normally, Yuuri would find it kind of cute to hear him boasting about his skill, but right now it only made him frown. “It isn’t the sort of danger you can fight. If I screw it up, then you'll be trapped in another dimension.”
Wolfram tsked. “Big deal. You can travel between dimensions anyway.”
“There won’t be any water there.”
Wolfram still didn’t seem troubled in the least. “Then just don’t screw up. It can’t be that hard. Anyway, why are you more concerned about me? I should be more worried about you facing this danger.”
“I wouldn’t be in any.”
Wolfram glared. “Why would I be the only one in danger?”
“Because we would be testing me and your trust in me.”
“You don’t trust my trust in you?” Wolfram nearly shouted.
“Isn’t that the point?” Yuuri nearly shouted back.
Wolfram plopped down in the chair across the room. “Only because you're a serial flirt." Then heavily, he relented. "Fine, tell me how this works exactly.”
Yuuri’s chest felt tight, but he pressed control, alt, t to reopen the tab anyway. The words Do you trust your boyfriend? glared at him. Yes, he thought. But could he trust himself?
To Yuuri’s dread, Wolfram insisted that they go through with the ritual. He seemed to feel the need to prove that he trusted Yuuri not to abandon him. It seemed simple enough. All Yuuri had to do was save him before time ran out. There was no way Yuuri would ever abandon Wolfram like that.
But what if he would?
What if he really was selfish enough to choose someone else over him? Could he really be that selfish to just abandon him in the process?
“Stop overthinking it, wimp. All you have to do is open the bathroom door. It isn’t hard or anything.”
It wouldn’t be hard. But that still didn’t mean it would be easy either.
The ritual had to be done on Earth. Well, it didn’t have to be done on Earth, but Yuuri wasn’t going to risk anything odd happening because of doing it in the other world. It would have been too difficult to keep track of time there anyway. Nothing in the ritual said that you couldn’t have other people around during the ritual, but Yuuri figured if they were going to do this, he better do it right. Having his parents around would make the temptation too easy to ignore. His parents might also delay him from returning to Wolfram on time, which definitely could not happen.
Luckily, he had a key to Murata’s place and knew that his parents would be out of town as usual. It was easy telling his parents that him and Wolfram were staying over at Murata’s for the night. He didn’t stay over there often, but it wasn’t exactly unusual either.
After packing a change of clothes and some food, they headed over to Murata’s place to get settled. The sun had already gone down, but it was still some time before midnight.
They were sitting on the couch watching the time click by on the antique grandfather clock. Yuuri was feeling very restless. He didn’t want to go through with this. What if he really never saw Wolf again?
“You’re thinking so loud it’s giving me a headache,” Wolfram complained.
Yuuri gave a light chuckle. “Sorry. I’m just worried.”
“I should be the one worried.”
“You’re really not?” How could Wolfram be so brave all the time?
Wolfram smiled at him. “I know you, Yuuri. You aren’t the sort of person who would abandon me when you know that’s the fate you’d be leaving me to. You’d rather be stuck with me forever than do something like that.”
“Then we aren’t doing it,” Yuuri said with grave seriousness. “It’s pointless even if I pass then because it won’t mean anything.”
Wolfram took his hand in his and squeezed. “Yes, it will. We will be blessed, and I’ll know that you chose me, regardless of the reason.”
“I don’t want to choose you for that reason,” Yuuri admitted quietly.
Wolfram smirked. “Choose me for the right reason, then.”
Yuuri really, really hoped he did. They still had an hour to go before midnight. There was nothing better to do, so he leaned in and kissed him, focusing on how nice his lips felt on his. It did the trick and cleared his mind of unnecessary thoughts.
A quarter till midnight, they set out together toward the nearby park with a public restroom. The heavy darkness was cut through by the sparse street lamps along the way. Yuuri gripped his hand, trying to push down the anxiety in his chest. It was probably the fact that he was about to meet a real demon , but the shadows seemed to move as if they were alive and the sound of cicadas and the trees swaying sounded deafening to his ears.
Wolfram had laughed at him, saying that he was worrying too much since he too was a demon, but Yuuri knew this wasn't a game. This wouldn't be a mazoku visiting him but a very real demon. The scary, evil kind they used to tell stories about in elementary and middle school. The fact that the demon wouldn't hurt him should have made him feel safer, but it didn't. At least then, he'd have a reason to fight back.
They hesitated outside the restroom door when they arrived.
11:53 PM.
Yuuri stared longingly into Wolfram's eyes. It was hard to see in the dim light, but he knew they were the color of the bottom of a lake. He didn't want to let him go. What if he really never saw him again?
He pulled him into his arms. "Let's turn around. I couldn't bear it if you got lost in there."
Wolfram scoffed. "Aren't I supposed to be the one pouring my heart out right now?"
"Don't make light of it," Yuuri breathed into the crook of his shoulder. "That always leads to bad results with these things."
Wolfram's arms wrapped around his back, holding him tight. "There are other rituals like this, huh?" he asked with a sarcastic edge. But then his voice grew serious. "I won't get lost. You need me."
"I do," Yuuri admitted.
"Then there's nothing to worry about. If I do get lost, you'll come find me and drag me out."
"If we aren't out before 12:01 we'll be stuck forever."
Wolfram backed up enough to make eye contact and cup the side of Yuuri's face. "Then we'll be lost together. Between the two of us, we'll blast our way home."
He made it sound so easy. Yuuri put his hand over his and nodded. "Yeah. Just in case, though, I love you, Wolf. I really do."
Wolfram smiled. "I love you too, wimp. You didn't have to do this for me, but it means a lot. The fact that you searched for this ritual is exactly why everything will work out fine."
Yuuri nodded again.
Wolfram pushed forward, giving a short but meaningful kiss. "Alright, I better get in there."
Yuuri gulped. "Yeah."
Wolfram opened the door to the bathroom and walked inside without looking back.
Yuuri held onto Wolfram's hand until it fell from his grasp.
Wolfram took a moment to look around the unfamiliar bathroom. It was extremely dark inside, the only light being some streams of moonlight coming from a tiny window above the sink. The opposite wall was lined with stall after stall from beginning to end. It seemed strange to him to have so many stalls with only one sink.
He entered the first stall and pulled the door shut. It was too dark to see, so he felt over the gap where the edge of where the door swung out from and felt something metal. That must be the latch. He pushed it over until he heard a click.
11:59 PM.
Exactly on time.
He pulled the knife out of his pocket and extracted the blade. Even though it was dark, he could at least make out the shadow of his hand moving the blade. He chipped into the stall door with more force than was probably necessary. Still, since he couldn't see his handiwork, it was better to overdo it to ensure he succeeded. His handwriting would probably look atrocious, but it was the effort and feeling behind it that mattered, right?
It wasn't like any human passing by could read "Yuuri loves Wolfram" anyway if it was written in the mazoku language.
Satisfied with his work, Wolfram closed the knife blade and stuck it back into his pants pocket. Slowly, he began to spin around in a circle counter-clockwise.
"My lover has another," he said. The words felt thicker on his tongue than he had expected them to.
He spun around again, quicker this time. "My lover has another."
It felt like his throat was constricting in on itself, but he forced the words out.
Again.
And again.
33 times and he began to feel sick. Both physically and emotionally. What if Yuuri was right and this had been a horrible idea? What if he was going to spend the rest of eternity locked up in this tiny, dark stall?
No, he had to believe in Yuuri and press on.
Again he spun, forcing the words out.
Again and again, and finally on the 60th time the lights flickered on, then immediately back off. They continued flickering as he continued the last set of spins.
A buzzing filled the air on the second to last spin, and on spin 66, the lights went back out leaving him in a deeper, purer darkness than before.
He was facing the stall door even though he couldn't see it. Slowly, he turned around to see that the toilet and wall that should have been behind him really had disappeared. In their place was a corridor stretching out into endless darkness. Even the corridor was only visible due to an ominous red glow coming up from the floor. It didn't look like anything Wolfram had seen before. It wasn't an electrical light or a power…The only way he could describe it was otherworldly. Even the air was different. It felt thick and weighted on his skin and tasted stale with a hint of ash.
The glow called out to him like a voice in the back of his head. He began to walk down the corridor, feeling the air grow heavier with each step he took. The view in front of him remained unchanging. After what felt like an hour, he stopped and turned around to check if he really had walked at all. The view behind him was an exact mirror of the path in front of him.
His breathing picked up. There were no walls around him, but it somehow felt like the world was closing in on him. The air was tangible on its way down his throat, which left his throat feeling parched and scratchy.
He pulled the digital watch out of his pocket and checked the time.
1:11 AM.
How had only a little over an hour passed? It felt like he had been walking for hours.
"Damn!" Wolfram's fist clenched. Why didn't he think to bring anything to eat or drink with him? Now that he thought about it, the need gnawed at him.
The memory of him and Yuuri and Greta eating cookies in the garden the day before surfaced in his mind. His hand reached out as if he could brush Greta's curls back behind her ear. He could hear her laughter in his ears and he wanted so badly for it to be real.
"Papa," she giggled, "stop. I can do my own hair, you know."
"I know," Wolfram echoed along with his memory. "I enjoy taking care of you, though."
Greta shook her head, causing her curls to displace even further. "You both need to stop babying me so much."
Yuuri grinned. "Don't you know that you'll always be a baby to your parents?"
Greta stuck her tongue out and laughed. "You're only five years older than me."
Yuuri laughed. "That's true. But Wolf can baby you all he wants because he's more than five times your age."
"Are you calling me old?" Wolfram asked in the memory.
"Maybe," Yuuri answered slyly.
Wolfram pounced around the table locking Yuuri into a headlock. "Take it back."
"Why? You're attractive for an old guy."
Wolfram pulled him in tighter. "I'm not old."
Greta laughed as the two of them began play-wrestling against each other. "See," she said, "neither of you are mature enough to baby me."
"Does this make me mature?" Yuuri asked. Then he wiggled around in Wolfram's arms and stole a kiss.
"No!" Wolfram yelled. "That makes you a pervert."
Yuuri's smiling face faded away with the memory.
If he wanted that again, he'd have to keep going. His steps took more effort now, and each one made the pit of his stomach clench uneasily.
One foot in front of the other. Keep going. Keep going.
He had lost all sense of time some time ago. For the hundredth time, he checked the watch.
2:15 AM.
The corridor looked exactly the same in every way. Would he really reach an end? Would he manage to remain sane until he did?
Yuuri stared at the closed bathroom door for an entire minute before he could force himself to turn away. The shadows looked even darker now. Was the demon hiding in wait within them? Fear prickled over his skin. He didn't want to leave the safety of the illumination of the street lamps, but he had to for Wolf.
The walk back to Murata's house felt infinitely longer than the walk to the park had. Luckily, nothing actually popped out of the shadows at him, but he was on edge the entire time.
When he finally reached the house, the lights were already on inside. Gooseflesh rose on his arms. He was sure they had turned the lights off before they left.
Gulping, he placed his hand on the front door knob. He took a deep breath, readying himself.
Then, he turned the knob.
The entire atmosphere shifted. The inside of the house was warm and cheery. Bright light cast out any shadows there might have been in the entranceway. Faint upbeat music drifted from the living room. What really calmed Yuuri's nerves was what he saw right in front of him.
It was Wolfram. He was safe.
But no. That wasn't him. Wolfram was still inside the bathroom.
There was no way this was his Wolfram. The imitation was dressed in nothing but a neon pink apron that said Kiss the cook . His hair looked softer and lighter and his eyes shone too brightly, like the sun was shining onto the surface of a lake with green moss on the bottom. The smile on his face was too happy and transparent.
"Welcome home, Yuuri," he said chipperly.
"Hi," Yuuri replied in an unsure tone.
The imitator tilted his head. "What would you like first? Dinner, a bath, or me?"
Yuuri made a face. What was this? One of Shouri's eroge games?
"You cooked?" he asked.
"Of course," the imitator said. "That's what any loving husband should do."
Oh.
Hearing him call himself his husband made Yuuri surprisingly happy. If only it was the real Wolf calling himself that.
The imitator stepped forward and ushered him inside with a hand on his shoulder. The touch felt real and exactly how it would have felt if this really was Wolfram.
"Come, you seem tired." The imitator led him to the couch. He pushed him down onto the couch, then lifted his feet up onto the coffee table. "Wait here, I'll bring your dinner."
Yuuri watched him go which granted him a nice view of a naked behind. As soon as he saw it, he averted his gaze out of habit. Wolfram would hit him for looking. At least, the real Wolfram would before reminding him that he would have to marry him first if he wanted those kinds of perks.
This Wolfram said they already were married, though. It felt so weird. As if he was dreaming.
The imitator came back into the room carrying a tray with a bowl of rice and a bowl of stir-fried veggies.
"I hope you like it," he said with a slight blush. It was really cute!
Yuuri took the tray with a smile. "I'm sure I will."
The imposter smiled back. He sat down next to him, watching intently as he took a bite.
"Aren't you going to eat as well?"
The imposter shook his head. "I made it for you."
Maybe demons didn't eat.
Or, maybe they didn't eat normal food.
Silence fell between them aside from the music and the sound of Yuuri's chewing. It tasted good. Better than he assumed Wolfram could manage even with some practice.
"It was delicious," he said when he was finished.
The imposter clasped his hands together. "Oh good! Now, would you like that bath? We could take one together." He looked at him through long blonde lashes.
Yuuri could feel the impulse beneath his skin. "No," he answered thickly. "Why don't we just talk awhile."
The imitator giggled. "Alright. How was your day?"
"Oh, uh…" He had been scared all day. He couldn't exactly come out and tell this thing that he had been dreading the thought of meeting him. "It was emotional," he said, trying to still be honest.
The imposter nuzzled his head against his shoulder. "Were you thinking about me all day?"
"Yes." Of course, he had been.
"I thought about you all day, too. I couldn't wait for you to get home."
"What did you think about?" As soon as the words were out, he regretted them.
The imposter turned a sly grin his way. "Well," he said slowly, running the tips of his fingers down Yuuri's arm. "I thought about all the things we could get up to tonight. Are you sure you don't want that bath? I've been practicing holding my breath."
Yuuri's mouth felt dry. He suddenly remembered that the man was practically nude beside him. Is this what the instructions had meant by persuasion? The imposter was giving him what he could only describe as bedroom eyes.
Nervous about what he might do, Yuuri jumped up from the couch. "No, that's alright."
The imposter pouted. It was way too cute, especially with Wolf's face. "Aw, but I bought something special to wear for you, too."
Oh God! Something more special than that apron? Yuuri turned around. "I'm not ready yet!" he squeaked.
A beat passed before fingers were trailing down his back. "There's nothing to be afraid of." The imposter kissed the back of his shoulder blade, leaving heat in its wake. "I won't bite unless you ask me too."
Yuuri gulped. What time was it?
1:23
How was he going to survive 24 hours with this person intact? Even if the demon didn't hurt him, Wolfram surely would if he found out that he did anything.
Which he didn't want to! Yuuri definitely didn't want to. This was a scary demon borrowing Wolfram's face. It didn't matter that his face was that of an angel or that his hair radiated like a halo or that his lips were rosy and kissable. Yuuri didn't want anyone besides Wolfram.
If he could deny a copy of Wolf, then he could prove that he could deny anyone.
Clamping his eyes shut, he conjured an image of Wolfram with him right now. He would be dressed in his light blue suit. He would have tried, but failed to make dinner. Yuuri would have laughed and Wolfram would have yelled at him for it.
"Show me how you do it better then!"
Wolf really did yell at him a lot, didn't he? This version of Wolfram hadn't yelled at him once. It was kind of a relief.
"You aren't him," Yuuri said to himself as well as the demon.
"How could you say that? Of course I'm Wolfram. I'm your husband and we even have a daughter together."
"Greta is–"
"Did you want something?"
The voice caused Yuuri's blood to still. Holding his breath, he glanced  over his shoulder. Standing behind the fake Wolfram was what could only be a fake Greta.
The girl giggled. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
"But you're in Shinma."
"I missed you, Papa. Uncle Murata helped me come see you."
The fake Wolfram smiled slyly. "We decided the three of us could stay here with you. Your home is our home."
Yuuri licked his lips. "But they need me."
Fake Wolfram shook his head. "They only need a Maoh. Brother already agreed to take care of everything. All you need to do is what makes you happy. Wouldn't staying here with us make you happy?"
"I…"
They were both giving him pleading looks. He wanted to say no, but it would have been a lie. Sure, he'd miss the friends he made there, but living on Earth would be so much easier.
As if reading his mind, the fake Wolfram said, "We can visit anytime you wish."
Greta latched onto Yuuri's arm. "Please, Papa? I want to see more of the world you grew up in."
"Yeah," he agreed.
She jumped in place and squeezed his arm. "Thanks, Papa!"
Yuuri smiled. "Anything for my little girl."
She shrieked. "Stop treating me like a child."
"No can do." He laughed.
Wolfram smiled. "We should start looking for houses, then."
"Huh?" What was wrong with their house.
"We're at Murata's, remember? We can't stay here forever."
Oh, right. Why were they here again?
"Why don't you start looking while I clean up from dinner?"
That sounded like a good idea.
Eventually, Wolfram reached a dead-end. Nothing changed visually, but the way was blocked. It almost looked like a mirror, except he wasn't in the reflection. An invasive thought popped into his brain telling him that he had been replaced. He wasn't even worth reflecting now. That was illogical, though. Even if Yuuri gave up on him, he would still cast a reflection.
He turned his back to the wall and sat down.
It didn't seem smart to fall asleep, but he felt so tired. He began to hum to occupy himself. The corridor was entirely silent except for his voice which bounced off of the invisible walls. The quiet sound was amplified and echoy. It was a simple tune that Conrart used to hum to him when he was little.
He probably should have told the others goodbye just in case. It was too late now.
The song was putting him to sleep rather than waking him up. Maybe sleeping wasn't such a bad idea.
As soon as he had the thought, he was pulled under as if by an unseen force.
Arms encircled Yuuri's neck from behind. "Greta's asleep," whispered a voice in his ear.
Yuuri chuckled and shut the laptop. "What are you implying with that?
Wolfram walked around the computer chair and climbed onto his lap as best he could. The chair wasn't spacious enough to be comfortable, but part of his weight sat on Yuuri's thighs and the rest pushed against the hardwood floor.
"Just that we could have some adult fun if you'd like."
Yuuri put his hands on his husband's waist and kissed him. His lips were addictive, soft, supple, and tasted faintly of strawberry for some reason.
"Isn't that moving a bit too fast?" Yuuri asked.
Wolfram smirked. "We're married, aren't we?"
"Right." Yuuri laughed. "I don't know what I was thinking."
"That's okay." Wolfram kissed along his jawline. "You don't have to think, just feel."
He pulled him back into an open-mouthed kiss. It was quick and heated as if he was starving to taste him.
"I love you so much," Wolfram said between kisses. "Don't you love me, too?"
"Yes," Yuuri panted out of breath. "Of course, I love you."
Wolfram swiped his tongue over his lips. "Then, won't you show it? Show me all the ways you love me."
"You mean…"
"Intimately, of course."
The light in the blonde's eyes was hotter than he'd ever seen it before.
"Of course," Yuuri said.
They walked hand-in-hand to the bedroom. There, Wolfram untied the apron which fluttered to the ground. Yuuri's eyes roamed over his beautiful, exposed skin.
"How do you want me? Like this, or I could put on your surprise?"
Yuuri's mind went wild imagining what the surprise could be. He didn't want to wait any longer, though. He walked up to him and cradled his face. "You're perfect exactly how you are."
Pretty pink dusted over his cheeks at the words. He batted his long eyelashes at him. "Tell me exactly what you want."
What did he want? "Let's lay down on the bed."
Wolfram smiled and did so. When they were side by side, he rolled himself over on top of him. Even through his clothes, Yuuri could feel the outline of him.
The blonde rocked into him and threw his head back. "Is this what you want?"
Yuuri put his hands on his hips. First, he helped his movements, but then he held him in place. "No, I…"
He still wasn't sure what he wanted, though.
Wolfram smirked down at him. "You don't have to be embarrassed. I'll do anything you want."
"What about what you want?"
"That doesn't matter."
Yuuri frowned and pushed Wolfram off of him so that he could sit up. "That isn't right. Let me make you happy instead."
Wolfram smiled up at him from where he landed on the bed. "I am happy."
"So am I," Yuuri emphasized.
Wolfram sat up, inching as close as possible to his side. "But you could be so much happier."
"So, could you."
"We could be happy together."
Wolfram tugged him down onto the bed and into a kiss. Instinctively, Yuuri's hips started grinding into his.
Wolfram cried out. "Yes! That's it."
Yuuri smiled at Wolfram's response. "You like it?"
"I like you ," he said.
Yuuri stilled, looking down at him. His pupils were dilated, his mouth was gaping open, and he was breathing heavily. He didn't look like an angel anymore. He looked indulgent and slutty. Yuuri wasn't sure what to make of the change.
"I like you , too." Yuuri gripped his hand in his. "I'd never do this with those girls, so stop being so jealous."
"I'm not jealous," Wolfram said far too lightly. "I trust you completely."
Yuuri dropped his hand. "What?"
"Of course, I trust you enough to let you dance with those girls. It's only to be expected."
This wasn't right. Wolfram was always jealous.
Yuuri tried to get up, but Wolfram grabbed his arm. He frowned. "Where are you going?"
"I need a moment to think."
"About what? Don't I please you?"
"That's not–"
"Tell what you don't like, and I'll change it. I can even look like those girls if you'd rather."
Right before his eyes, Wolfram shifted form. His light blonde hair grew into long curls and breasts grew out from his chest. Every one of his features softened. He–she– looked beautiful in every way. Yuuri was sure that she would feel amazing in his arms. Yuuri was also sure this wasn't Wolfram.
"You aren't Wolfram."
The woman cackled. "Does it even matter? I'm offering you something he never can."
Yuuri shut his eyes. "That doesn't matter! I only want him!"
The woman tsks. "He'll never have to know."
He couldn't see her, but he could feel her moving closer and pressing up against him. Her soft breasts pushed into his side.
Yuuri would know. He'd never be able to live with himself if he hurt him like this.
"I don't want you."
Suddenly, he remembered that this imposter was really a demon.
What time was it?
He bolted away from the imposter and ran out into the living room.
11:30 PM.
He didn't have much time left. How had it already been so long? Hadn't it only been an hour and a half last time he checked?
He turned around at the sound of clapping. The imposter looked like male Wolfram again and was still entirely nude. "I'm surprised you snapped yourself out of it in time. You can still choose me, though."
Yuuri rooted his stance. "Why would I ever pick you?"
"Because I will always make you happy."
"Wolf already makes me happy."
The imposter gave him a pitying look. "You may think that, but he also drives you crazy. Don't you get tired of being yelled at and called a wimp?"
"T–that's how he shows affection."
"He's always jealous and trying to control you. He never thinks you're doing enough."
"He's only jealous because he's scared of losing me. And he pushes me to be better. I need him."
The imposter stepped closer, running his hands down the length of his body. "He won't even please you. I, on the other hand, will please you for as long as you want in any possible way that you want."
Yuuri licked his lips. "I don't want someone like that. I only want Wolf."
"Even if he never puts out?"
"Yeah," he said shakily. "If that's what Wolf wants, then I'll deal with it."
The imposter took a step back and whistled. "Wow, you really are a tough nut to crack."
Yuuri sucked in a breath. "I'm not anything special."
"Oh, yes you are. 9/10 guys would have jumped me the moment they came home. People can say they only have eyes for their certain someone all they want, but few actually mean it."
"I was actually terrified of meeting you."
The imposter cackled. "I know. But I did my act well. I was so close to having you. Where did I mess up?"
"You were too perfect."
The imposter lifted his eyebrows. "All I did was what you wanted."
"Maybe on some level, but Wolf wouldn't be Wolf without his flaws."
"You don't want him to cook for you?"
"He doesn't have to and just him trying is cute."
The imposter shook his head. "You really are different."
Yuuri smiled and looked back at the clock. "Sorry, but I have to go to Wolf now."
The imposter exhaled slowly. At the tail end of the breath, his form shifted yet again. Black hair, black skin, and red glowing eyes. "Go, half-breed," came a voice much deeper than before. "You had better hurry." He cackled as a mist of smoke engulfed the room.
Yuuri stumbled blindly toward the door. Opening it, he was meant with oppressive darkness. He could see light from a lamp post, but it was too far away to illuminate anything in front of him. It was also in the opposite direction than his memory said it should be.
Disoriented, he stumbled down the road in complete darkness. He could feel the shadows moving around him and every so often he thought he heard laughter on the wind.
Finally, there was another light post. He stumbled to it, only seeing the door in front of him when he stopped beneath the light. It was the door leading into the bathroom, but it was just the door. The building itself was missing.
His heartbeat raced. Was he too late?
Go on, half-breed, whispered the wind.
He turned the doorhandle and stepped into the waiting darkness.
Wolfram woke to a clicking sound. He blinked a few times before remembering that he was supposed to be keeping an eye on the time.
12:00 AM.
Jumping up, he ran down the endless corridor. Clicking sounded in time with each of his footfalls. He ran faster to the point where he was worried he may pass out before reaching the end.
He tripped and failed to catch his footing. His knee scraped the ground which felt like concrete. Pushing himself back up, his surroundings rippled. Endless black and red shifted into lighter shades of darkness. He reached a hand out, feeling the coolness of the stall door and the coarseness of the grooves he cut into it.
He breathed, waiting for Yuuri to save him.
Yuuri reached along the wall for a light switch but couldn't find one. Giving up, he ran toward the first stall. He only had a minute!
"Wolf?" he called.
No response.
This better be the right one! He felt over the stall door, sighing in relief when he felt the lock. Immediately, he unbolted it and had to hold himself back from pushing the door open.
A moment later, Wolfram stepped out.
Yuuri let out the hugest breath of his life and crashed his arms around him.
"Thank God you're safe!"
Wolfram's arms held him back just as tightly. "I almost overslept," he said.
"I almost forgot," Yuuri admitted.
Wolfram's reply sounded watery. "But you didn't."
"I…" Yuuri had to take a moment to pull himself together. "I wouldn't have, but…he messed with my mind."
"It's okay," Wolfram said, running a soothing hand down his back. "You came back."
"But I almost–"
Wolfram pulled back and placed a finger to his lips. "I don't care what you did. I won't be jealous anymore just like you wanted."
Yuuri shook his head. "No! Don't change anything!"
"Yuuri?" Wolfram asked, confused.
Yuuri lifted Wolfram's hand up to his mouth and kissed it. "I know now that I don't want you to change in any way. I love everything about you just the way you are."
"You're surprisingly sapy."
Yuuri gave a small laugh. "That's fine with me. As long as you don't mind."
"Hmm." Wolfram pretended to consider it. "I guess I can deal with it."
"Oh, thanks."
A moment passed, then Wolfram rested his head on Yuuri's shoulder. "I did start to wonder if you were going to abandon me."
Yuuri held his head closer. "I only ever would have done it by accident."
Wolfram exhaled. "I know. I'm just glad it's over."
"Me too."
They stood there embracing each other for a long time before finally making their way back to Murata's house. They got ready for bed, and when they laid down, Wolfram cuddled closer than usual.
"Wolf?" Yuuri asked.
"I…" The blonde hid his face in the mattress. "I just thought now it seems silly to wait."
"No," Yuuri said after a pause. "We should wait and make it special. But, well…" He scratched his cheek. "Let's not wait long."
Wolfram pushed himself up with his arms. "Are you asking me to marry you?"
Yuuri looked away. "We're already engaged."
Wolfram smacked his chest. "We've been engaged for years. Are you asking me to marry you?"
"Y–yes."
Wolfram straddled him and kissed him. Yuuri froze, remembering how the demon had done the same thing.
But Wolfram didn't grind into him or make any lewd faces. All he did was press close and kiss him. Tenderly rather than in a devouring manner.
Yuuri relaxed into it. He felt over his lower back and his hips. This was the real Wolfram. He could tell.
"I love you," he said when they broke apart.
Wolfram smirked. "You better."
Yuuri chuckled and took his hand in his. He never realized until then how well their fingers laced together.
Maybe they hadn't before but this blessing made them fit better than they already had.
No, he decided a second later. Despite whatever either of them or anyone said, they had always complimented each other in a way only they could. He couldn't wait until they could actually become halves to each other.
Husband, he thought fondly. The word had a nice ring to it.
