i personally adore your writing nina. i understand wanting to give up, because i have many times, but when you have a calling for something i think it truly always finds a way back to you. i think the true struggle with authors, or any type of artist, is that we tend to hate everything we create, while others love it. sure we have the random fic or project we spend a lot of time on and love, but there is always the regular work we arent as proud of. i do believe that you were made to write, and everything i read from you is so easy to read, and its impactful, and it always encourages me to write. i know that its hard to believe that your writing is good sometimes, but trust me when i say it is :) <3

National Children’s Book Day Celebration at Vista Mall Naga

As part of the celebration of National Children’s Book Day on the 16th of July 2019, The Aroaldaw Learning and Tutorial Center spearheaded a two-day storytelling session last July 13-14, 2019 at Vista Mall Naga with the advocacy to promote reading and appreciation of literature to children. The weekend celebration was aimed to encourage parents to read more books to their children not just for educational purposes but also as form of their bonding time. Moreover, it would also nurture their children in developing genuine love for reading books and arts.

“In Manila, the National Children’s Book Day is highly celebrated annually every 3rd Tuesday of July. In Naga City, we realized that it is not known here that there is this kind of event so we decided to make this event for children to know about this day and join in the celebration of this national event,” shared Teacher Isbel “Bel” Borja, Center Director of Aroaldaw Learning and Tutorial Center who initiated the said event.

With the help of social media and word of mouth, the event was promoted and reached their target audiences. Holding events at public places also helped in raising awareness for the advocacy of the event. Some children and parents were also encouraged to join when they just happen to be passing by at the mall. “I am very delighted and happy because many kids came to participate in this event we made for them. Many listened to the story telling and appreciated reading books. We gave them time to pick a book, sit down and read it. Seeing them holding and reading a book is a very fulfilling feeling.” She also added.

One of the highlights of the storytelling session was when the stories came to life as the young storytellers take the stage to share their talent and passion for storytelling. Grade 6 students Immanuel Monte of Villa Corazon Elementary School and Andrey Zoe de Leon of Naga Central School were the young storytellers who graced the event. They were classmates in Grade 1 at Raya School Naga.

“When Teacher Bel invited me and Andrey to read a story, we said yes. She let us borrow the story book and we practiced on it. That is how we prepared for it. I assured that I will read it in a loud voice and with expression,” shared Immanuel when asked about how did he prepared for the story telling.

Having a previous experience in storytelling, this was his second time to perform storytelling in a public audience. “I was really happy during and after the story telling because the children were listening. I think that the significance of storytelling is you can learn lessons from it. It can strengthen your vocabulary and imagination.” He blissfully said.

Andrey who won 1st place in storytelling competition when he was in 4th Grade and one of the storytellers shared, “I volunteered for the storytelling today to be able to bring back the stories we also grew up with and keep it alive. I can remember some of these stories were read to us when we were younger and I want to share these stories too.”

Aside from storytelling and reading stories, each children were able to share what is their favorite book and tell something about what they learned from it by writing it down in a piece of paper and fill out the blanks. The creative coloring activities and poster making were also part of the event to encourage children to read books through art with use of simple art materials and be creative in retelling stories and what they have learned.

Growing up in a generation of flourishing technological advancement, going back to the traditional storytelling and reading books instead of playing games on the mobile devices or clicking random entertainment videos for kids, this creates a fun and better environment for children to learn, to discover, to imagine and to understand world and life as a whole at an early age.

XAVIER HAVEN KENT ESPARAGUERA (Colloquial words)

1. Shookt – it is a reaction for being overly surprise, it comes from the word shock.

• Im shookt because they surprised me for my birthday.

• Mother was shookt because of how badly I have become.

2. Lodi – It is an expression or appreciation for being amazing and cool, it comes from the word idol.

• We used to call teacher Elika “ Lodi” because shes adorable.

• Napaka Lodi talaga ni Coco Matins a FPJ’s ang probinsyano.

3. Petmalu- This means “ malupet”, being excellent and inexorably good. They also called it “petmalu” as an admiration to somebody or something.

• Kyna’s make-up look for today is petmalu.

• Petmalu talaga si Many Pacquio kung lumaban.

4. Mumshie- latest word replacement for Mommy, it was first being used by a morning time show known as Magandang Buhay.

• Mumshie Juls, Melai and Carla are the host of Magandang Buhay.

• My Mumshie will arrive here in the Philippines this febuary 23, 2018

5. Werpa- This word is also an expressive term used for appreciation and admiration to someone who appeared stunning or gorgeous. Derived from the word “Power”.

• They were all werpas when they slay their performance at The Voice Teens season.

• Werpa kung sumayaw si Barbie.

6. Wafu/Wafa- this means handsome and pretty.

• I admire Leo for being so Wafu today.

• Si piolo Pascual ang pinaka wafung pinoy na artistang kilala ko.

7. Shunga- this word means clumsy or reckless.

• They called me shunga for I have drop the graduated cylinder during our experiment time.

• Si prince minsa’y shunga dahil napipiga ang oras nya sa pagsusulit.

8. Besh/Beshie- this word means someone that is close to you or rather bestfriend.

• My beshies were so funny when we are having time together.

• We are not in good terms with my beshies .

9. On fleek- Means perfect.

• She’s On fleek.

• On fleel na pumasok si Xavier sa iskwelahan.

10. Keri/Keri bells- keri means easy or not difficult.

• Kim Chu made an Endorsement for shampoo in titled Kering Kery because her hair can Keri her self lovely.

• Kering- keri ng mga estudyante ang mga hamon na binibigay ng kanilang guro.

11. Havey- this means interesting or funny, this word is applicable in reacting o joke or “hugot lines”.

• Prince’s jokes are so havey because all of us laugh.

• Havey na have ang mga hugot ni Vice Ganda sa Showtime.

12. Edi-wow- Expression to something or statement that isn’t acceptable or fallacy.

• Leo claims himself as the most handsome guy in the class and all we can say is “ Edi-wow.”

• He’s so edi wow.
