ANNOUNCEMENT!

Kondou Shouri will be in a new stage play on February 2018! It’s the Mononofu series’ last installment 舞台『～もののふシリーズ最終章～「駆けはやぶさひと大和」』

He will be playing as Hirobumi Itou

Following the teachings of Yoshida Shouin, he studied with Kido Takayoshi in Shoka Sonjuku. During the end of the Edo era, he was an active member of the Sonnou jyoui movement ("to revere the Emperor and expel the barbarians"), and the toubaku undou (”overthrow the shogunate movement”), aiming for a new Japan. After the Meiji Restoration, he became a central figure of the government and drafted the Meiji Constitution. Later on, he became the first Prime Minister of Japan.

The performances will be in Tokyo from February 8-18, at The Galaxy Theatre It will then move to Osaka from February 24-25, at the Morinomiya Piloti Hall

He said that when he played Itou Hirobumi for the Mononofu series, he felt a huge amount of pressure since this was the last chapter of the stage play, but more than that, he felt great enjoyment doing this role.

Since it’s his first time to act with his co-stars, he also felt nervous at first, but he was glad that he was able to work with these actors, and that he was able to act together with veterans such as Nakamura Kikaku-san, Hagino Takashi-san, Koshimura Tomokazu-san for all of his scenes.

He said playing the role of Itou Hirobumi has been really fascinating for him, since he isn’t like most people, and he had a great destination ahead of him. Thinking about that, he really enjoyed the role. He wonders that is it because he is different from other people, that he was able to became the first prime minister.

If he sees a TV program featuring Itou Hirobumi, he feels like he’s going to be glued to it.

He said that every time he went on stage, he was nervous. He thought he was going to get used to it for those 21 performances.

Whenever “akogare no senaka” was being said on the theme song, it felt amazing that his seniors also showed their backs to them. He wonders what kind of senior he’ll become in the future.

He wasn’t able to take a lot of pictures this time. He said the drawing on his phone was done by the make-up artist.
