#kiss their ass and vote gratefully like it’s something meaningful

I gotta say I definitely take umbrage with that post talking about voting is a chore and conplaining about is like complaining about having to do the dishes. I mean it’s a good metaphor and all, but let’s take it a little further than ‘complaining about your conditions is bad and you are morally horrible for doing so ‘
because yeah, voting is like doing the dishes, regular upkeep thats necessary to keep things even vaguely livable. But what if my roommates are cooking huge meals and making piles of dirty dishes every day and never washing them? am I wrong for asking them to stop? or even just pointing out that it’s a dick move?
if the lease i signed says i’ll have access to a dishwasher, but it’s been broken for years and the landlord refuses to fix it —and then calls ME a useless asshole for asking for repairs— I think i’d have a right to complain actually!! if i’m supposed to have hot water to clean my dishes and I fucking don’t, so now all my dishes take more effort to get less clean, then I’m in the right for complaining!!
all these outcomes are worse than if the roommates took responsibility for their own dishes or the landlord fixed the problems that make doing dishes harder, and it’s good and correct to challenge those things, actually. Stop carrying water for people who benefit from our political system being so dysfunctional and start demanding they hold up their end of the bargain.
