Vintage Egyptian Revival Scarab Sodalite Gemstone Bracelet GF
A vintage sodalite gemstone scarab bracelet from the 1930s or 1940s. It is marked 1/20 14K GF on the spring ring, and also on the back of one of the scarabs, with the maker's mark of WRE as well.  The bracelet is 7.5 inches long and is in very good vintage condition. The scarabs are approximately 8 x 10mm and each scarab has a hand carved symbol on front and back. It could use cleaning but I will leave that up to the buyer. WRE stands for the W. E. Richards company which was founded in 1900 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Their designs often reflected the Art Deco style. Their jewelry is very collectable and they are still in business today. There have been several Egyptian Revival periods in the past 300 years. The expeditions that eventually led to the discovery in 1922 of the treasure of Tutankhamun's tomb by the archaeologist Howard Carter resulted in a 20th-century revival. The revival during the 1920s is considered to be part of the Art Deco decorative arts style. Glass and stone scarab beetles were used in jewelry designs, including rings, necklaces, brooches and stickpins.   The Egyptians regarded the scarab as sacred because it signified new life. The scarab beetle was a symbol of Khepera, the rising sun god. The beetle moves from east to west which mimics the path of the divine god Ra as he rolls across the sky each day. For this reason, the scarab was also seen as a symbol of the heavenly cycle of rebirth and regeneration. Sodalite is a beautiful deep royal blue and usually contains white or grayish inclusions of calcite. The name sodalite reflects its sodium content. Sodalite promotes peace and harmony, psychic development and clairvoyance. It is a good stone for oversensitive and defensive people as it improves courage and self-esteem. Sodalite balances and stills the mind and helps promote logical and rational thought. Gemstone therapists use sodalite to purify the aura. It is believed that sodalite absorbs and neutralizes disharmony, and can guard against negative thoughts and emotions directed toward you by others. It is a wonderful stone for creative personalities, and is considered extra lucky for writers.
