Texas Rangers: 2023 World Series Champions
Tumblr media
PHOENIX -- The Texas Rangers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history after surviving Arizona ace Zac Gallen’s no-hit bid, getting a gutsy effort from starter Nathan Eovaldi and bringing their ample bats to the late innings in a thrilling 5-0 victory in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Chase Field.
In ending MLB’s longest title drought among title-less teams, the Rangers, who joined the American League as the expansion Washington Senators in 1961 before moving to Arlington and rebranding in '72, showed their mettle in what was, for eight innings, an ultra-tight tilt.
One night after erupting for 11 runs -- including 10 in the second and third innings -- Texas was held scoreless until Mitch Garver’s seventh-inning single brought newly minted two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager home to break a scoreless tie. The Rangers then took advantage of an untimely Alek Thomas fielding error in a four-run ninth highlighted by Marcus Semien’s two-run homer.
Eovaldi, on the other hand, had to sweat his way to success. He had baserunners abound, allowing four hits and five walks in six innings. But the D-backs went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position against him to strand all nine of those runners. They had two aboard with none out in the third, when No. 3 hitter Gabriel Moreno questionably put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, and nothing came of it.
In short, the Snakes let Eovaldi off the hook and, in the process, left themselves vulnerable to anything short of perfection by their ace.
"I kind of joked around that I didn’t know how many rabbits I had left in my hat," Eovaldi said. "I didn’t really help myself out in some of those situations. Other times, they put together quality at-bats and were able to find the whole. A lot of the credit goes to Jonah back there behind the plate. He called a great game. We were on the same page for the most part. We were able to come out on top. That was the main thing."
Gallen finally bent in the seventh, and it began in an ironic way. Seager broke up the no-no, but he didn’t do it in the style that suited him all series. Rather, it was a softly hit grounder to the opposite side -- a ball that would have been harmless if third baseman Evan Longoria hadn’t been shifted toward shortstop. The ball reached the outfield grass, and the Rangers had life.
Reflecting a theme of this series, the Rangers seized the moment in a way the D-backs did not. Evan Carter ripped a double to put two runners in scoring position. And after a consultation on the mound with pitching coach Brent Strom, Gallen gave up a ground-ball single up the middle to Garver to bring Seager home with the game’s first run.
"Gallen was unbelievable tonight, but we came through," Semien said. "Once Corey got the first hit, everybody kind of woke up."
Though Gallen recovered to strike out Josh Jung and October relief hero Kevin Ginkel came on to record the last two outs and escape a bases-loaded jam of his own making in the eighth, the D-backs were made to pay for their early inability to cash in at the plate. The Rangers came out swinging in the ninth against Arizona closer Paul Sewald with consecutive singles from Jung and Nathaniel Lowe. Heim ripped a single to center that Thomas misplayed. The ball scooted toward the wall, as Jung and Lowe hustled home and Heim streaked to third. Two outs later, Semien went deep for the second time in as many nights to make it 5-0, igniting a Texas-sized soiree, 52 years in the making.
"This is the biggest moment, the World Series," Semien said. "Put up four runs in the ninth inning to be up 5-0 after being no-hit, it just felt so good. [I] just looked over to the bench and screamed. It’s just an unbelievable feeling."

KEVIN GINKEL GINKELMANIA SHIRT
KEVIN GINKEL GINKELMANIA SHIRT The issue of royalties varies depending on the KEVIN GINKEL GINKELMANIA SHIRT in place at the time. I can’t speak for “A Christmas Story” and whether all actors were on a royalty system, were all members of SAG, all had the same provisions in their contracts and so on. It is quite common in some countries such as the USA for actors to get ‘points’ for a percentage of the profits in all subsequent uses (broadcast, cable, internet, etc.) This system is subject to the production company’s accountancy practices though so actors do have to trust that they get their fair share unless they have a degree in finance and access to the labyrinthine accounts. I have acting colleagues who appeared in Beverly Hillbillies (the original 60s TV series) and in Star Wars. The money from the 60s show trickles in and the amounts are trivial however the amounts from the Star Wars reboot are more significant.

Kevin Ginkel
Tumblr media

Yanks Eliminated from Postseason Contention, But Win Series
NYY vs. AZ
Game 1
RHP Luke Weaver got a second chance as a starter for the New York Yankees vs. RHP Brandon Pfaadt and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In the bottom of the third inning, RF Aaron Judge hit a three-run HR off Pfaadt, scoring LF Oswaldo Cabrera and 3B Oswald Peraza as well as Judge himself.
The Yankees took an immediate 3-0 lead against the D-backs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, CF Estevan Florial hit an RBI 2B off Pfaadt, scoring Peraza. The Yankees extended their lead against the D-backs to 4-0.
Later during that inning, Judge hit another HR – a two-run shot – off Pfaadt, scoring himself behind Florial. The Yankees now led by 6-0 against the D-backs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Judge hit his third HR of the game – a solo HR off reliever Slade Cecconi – which added an insurance run to the Yankees’ lead. It was now 7-0 Yanks.
youtube
In the top of the ninth inning, 1B Christian Walker hit a solo HR off reliever Jhony Brito, putting the D-backs on the scoreboard. The D-backs trailed the Yankees 7-1 and lost by this score.
Weaver pitched 5.1 innings for the Yankees, giving up only four hits and no runs/earned runs. He also struck out the D-backs three times.
Game 2
LHP Carlos Rodón got the nod for the Yankees versus RHP Zac Gallen and the D-backs.
In the top of the first inning, DH Tommy Pham hit a sacrifice fly to Florial in center field off Rodón, scoring C Gabriel Moreno from third base. The D-backs led 1-0.
In the next at-bat and plate appearance, Walker also hit a sac fly – this one was to Cabrera in right field – off Rodón, scoring RF-LF Corbin Carroll. The D-back padded their lead to 2-0.
Fast forward to the top of the seventh inning, veteran 3B Evan Longoria hit a two-run RBI 1B off Rodón, scoring Pham and Walker. The D-backs extended their lead to 4-0.
In the same inning, Geraldo Perdomo hit a sac fly to LF Isiah Kiner-Falefa off reliever Randy Vásquez, scoring PR-RF Jake McCarthy. The D-backs now led 5-0.
In the top of the eighth inning, Walker grounded out to Peraza at third base and was thrown out at first base, causing Carroll to score with Vásquez still pitching. The D-backs led 6-0.
In the top of the ninth inning, Moreno hit an RBI 2B off Vásquez, scoring Perdomo. With this insurance run, the D-backs extended their lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Judge as the DH in this game worked a bases-loaded walk via reliever Luis Frías, scoring PH-RF Jake Bauers.
The Yankees were now on the board and trailed the D-backs 7-1. However, this rally was short-lived and the Yanks lost by this score.
With this loss to the D-backs, the Yankees were mathematically and officially eliminated from postseason contention as an American League wild-card team.
Game 3
The Yankees looked to right the ship by winning the rubber game of this series and salvaging whatever dignity they had left since they will miss the postseason for the first time since 2016.
RHP Clarke Schmidt went on the bump for the Yankees against RHP Merrill Kelly and the D-backs.
In the top of the first inning, CF Alek Thomas hit a two-run RBI 2B off Schmidt, scoring Moreno and Walker. The D-back took a 2-0 lead.
Fast forward to the bottom of the fourth inning, C Austin Well hit a two-run HR – his second MLB career homerun – off Kelly. 2B Gleyber Torres scored as well as Wells, tying the score 2-2.
youtube
In the top of the seventh inning, Moreno hit an RBI 1B off reliever Nick Ramirez, scoring Carroll. The D-backs led 3-2.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Peraza hit a solo HR off reliever Ryan Thompson, tying the score 3-3.
In the top of the eighth inning, Carroll hit an RBI 1B off reliever Ian Hamilton. LF Lourdes Gurriel, Jr. scored and the D-backs led 4-3.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Peraza walked with the bases loaded and reliever Kevin Ginkel on the mound. Torres scored and the game was tied 4-4.
Next, Florial hit a sac fly to Carroll in left field off Ginkel, scoring Wells from third base. The Yankees took a 5-4 lead.
After that, LF Everson Pereira hit an RBI 1B off reliever Miguel Castro, scoring SS Anthony Volpe. The Yankees extended their lead to 6-4 and won by this score.
In this series-winning game against the D-backs, Schmidt pitched for four innings, so he didn’t qualify for the win. Instead, the win went to Hamilton in relief of Schmidt and company.

Arizona Diamondbacks-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
8.4.23-Merrill Kelly RHP (9-5) 3.23 ERA Vs. Bailey Ober RHP (6-5) 3.19 ERA
8.5.23-Ryne Nelson RHP (6-5) 4.84 ERA Vs. Kenta Maeda RHP (2-6) 4.53 ERA
8.6.23-Zac Gallen RHP (11-5) 3.41 ERA Vs. Pablo Lopez RHP (6-6) 4.01 ERA
The Diamondbacks At A Glance- The Diamondbacks were a big suprise in the first half with a (52-39) record. They are (5-13) since the All-Star Break and are 1.5 games behind the Reds for the final Wild-Card spot. The Giants won three out of four from the D-Backs in San Francisco this week. Corbin Carroll is just about a lock for Rookie of the Year. He is hitting .276 with twenty-one homers, fifty-nine RBI, and thirty-four stolen bases. He has taken the National League by storm. Christian Walker leads the team with twenty-two homers and sixty-eight RBI. Evan Longoria is on the injured list with a back issue and Gabriel Moreno has missed time with a shoulder injury. Mark Melancon is slowly working his way back from a shoulder injury. The Arizona rotation has a 4.74 ERA, which is twenty-fourth in baseball. That's not very good considering they have Zac Gallen, who started the All-Star Game this year. The Diamondbacks bullpen isn't much better with a 4.45 ERA. The closer spot has been fluid for the Diamondbacks. Kevin Ginkel has three saves, Miguel Castro has seven saves, Scott McGough has nine saves, and recently traded away Andrew Chafin had eight saves.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins tried to redeem a tough road trip with a series win over the Cardinals is St. Louis this week. The team returned home early-Friday morning and take on a young Diamondbacks team this weekend. Byron Buxton has missed a few games with a hamstring issue. The severity of it is undetermined. Joe Ryan went on the injured list with a groin injury. This opens the door for Dallas Keuchel, who was very good for the Saints. He had a 1.13 ERA in thirty-two innings over six starts for the Saints. He does give the Twins a left-handed starter, which they haven't had for a long time. Ryan Jeffers has been on a tear with a .382 average since the All-Star Break. Donovan Solano went 4-for-7 in St. Louis with two RBI. Caleb Thielbar returned to the mound on Wednesday and threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (14-10) all-time against the D-Backs. Arizona did take two of three games last year against Minnesota in Phoenix. The Twins did sweep the Diamondbacks in 2017 in August. The Twins are (8-1) against the D-Backs in their last nine games played in Minneapolis. Merrill Kelly allowed one run over seven innings in his lone start against the Twins. Joey Gallo has two career homers off Kelly. Kenta Maeda is (6-5) with a 4.14 ERA in eighteen games against the D-Backs. Zac Gallen threw seven innings and allowed two runs in his only start versus the Twins. Pablo Lopez is (0-2) with a 5.40 ERA in four starts against Arizona. The Twins only return home for three games before heading back out on the road again.
