Song Review: Kenny Wayne Shepherd - “Ballad of a Thin Man”
When Kenny Wayne Shepherd re-recorded Trouble Is … for its 25th anniversary, he also cut a song that didn’t make the original: Bob Dylan’s “Ballad of a Thin Man.”
The remake’s loping pace and signature piano riff are all Dylan. Yet the vocal delivery and screaming-blue guitar solos are all Shepherd.
And while he doesn’t push the song forward in any appreciable manner, Shepherd gets props for taking the appropriate tack on this “Ballad.” It appears on The Trouble Is … 25, out Dec. 2.
