WIP Kämpfer. I managed to bleach the plastic while doing seam removal on the shoulders, so I painted them with Titans Blue 2 to salvage it. Works really well actually??? Will be painting all the thrusters next!

god, please talk more about kampfer. that show was so formative for my teen self who didn't realize why at the time, but every time i try to look into it now i just leave feeling betrayed

Last I saw it, it was like 14 years ago, so my memories are a bit hazy, so I helped myself by digging some thoughts I shared a few years ago.

the main character is less of a pussy when he's a girl

the plot is barely holding together, the characters are not believable at all, and they hold Idiot Ball nearly all the time, there is very little GB tropes, so you can't even have fun from that. I think the authors were aiming at "So Bad It's Good" category, but I don't think they've succeeded

From what I remember, I watched Kampfer some time after watching Kashimashi, and early episodes of Ranma 1/2, so it didn't impress me at all (maybe aside from that transformation sequence in episode 1)

There are several moments where the series clearly attempts to indicate it's attempting to be self-aware on itself, but it seems to be done as a way of self-deprecating itself.

Compare with Ore Twintail ni Narimasu to see a GB anime which is parodying sentai tropes in an affectionate way.

(like there's this moment where the guy is on a date with the student council president and looks at the fishes and wonders "are these the white kampfers")

Funnily enough there was an Abridged Series of it done by a guy who voiced Goku and Gohan in Dragon Ball Z Abridged, but to be honest, I'm not brave enough to check how good it is and how much it holds up nowadays.
