Interestingly, today I found this nutritious fruit known as "Ambra-gullo" (Changhma language) at local Kamalanagar market. However, which I found today is exotic (Bideshi) variety. Its botanical name is Spondias dulcis (L Ambarella). As I could recall, we used to climb the trees to enjoy this delicious, tropical fruit with a bit of salt, fresh from the wild during my childhood days. Nowadays, these fruits are hardly seen in nature. Besides it mouthwatering taste, Ambarella has many health benefits including being abundant in water content, proteins, healthy fats, natural sugars as well as vitamins C, A. Moreover, this exotic summer harvest is a treasure trove of essential minerals like calcium, phosphorous, iron besides potent antioxidants namely flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, saponins and cardiac glycosides. In quest of traditional foods, today I found ‘Ramhola’, a Chakma traditional fruit which usually grown in the forest at Kamalanagar local market.
It looks like mango but, the inner parts seems like banana, hence the name 'hola’ means banana in Chakma language.
