kakashi x obito: sweets and dates
gift for the lovely @wind-becomes-lightning for this month’s gift exchange on the malewife server, SMOOCHES FOR YOU
18 +/NSFW minors, please do not interact
“You’re killing me.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
“I am not. You bought me outside, into the village, into a sweet shop, and you’re killing me, Kakashi.”
The cup in Obito’s hand is hot, steam still rising from its surface as he cautiously pulls it to his lips, taking a sip all the while keeping a careful eye on every table.
“They’re all civilians,” Kakashi says helpfully, pushing a plate of dango towards him. “They won’t kill you, you can drop your guard.”
“Speak for yourself,” Obito mumbles. “You’ve not taken off the mask once.”
“Well, that’s different.”
It’s only been a few months since the war, a few shaky weeks since Obito had stood a god and sought to bring about a new world order, before being cast down by a higher being, and then, an even more powerful deity.
The relationship, their relationship had been the easiest thing to figure out. From the moment Obito had defied death, been healed by Naruto in body and mind they had been inseparable, picking up where they had left off so long ago.
And if their long, tender sessions of love making was anything to off of, making up for time lost.
That he would have eventually fallen in love with Kakashi seemed so clear now, that he *had* fallen over the years even through his fog and watching the other man only at a distance seemed so utterly simple as to make him feel stupid. No doubt Rin would have been a part of their romance, had she lived, but even with the ache for her in both of their hearts, a small feeling of peace, the sensation that she had given her blessing from beyond the grave.
Still though, Obito hoped she couldn't see *everything*.
Primarily what went on in on top of, and underneath the Hokage's desk.
In fact, it had been in Kakashi's new office that they had spent most of the morning prior, Obito crouched on his knees, hands spreading apart Kakashi's legs before taking his lover's cock into his mouth. Almost a ritual at this point, a little morning pick me up, a little bit of stress relief for Lord Sixth because after all, hadn't he been so kind when he had pardoned Obito of all his crimes? Surely it was the least the Uchiha could do for him.
And do he had, tongue curling against his lover's dick as he had moved his head up and down, in and out as Kakashi had gripped the arms of his chair, tried to maintain the look of a calm boredom as Obito worked him body and soul. Another ritual in this, in getting Kakashi to break, at least a little bit. Sweat upon his face, a slight trembling in his arms and legs. Even a soft moan upon Obito kissing the tip, tongue flicking out to catch a spilled drop before eagerly taking it back into his mouth, hands playing at the base.
"You've not touched your dango," Kakashi interuppted, jarring Obito's thoughts as he pushed against the plate again, shoving the rounded edge into the Uchiha's arm. "They'll get cold."
"I'd rather have something else in my mouth," Obito grumbled, taking another sip of his drink. "And I thought *you* were enjoying that particular treat as well."
Kakashi's mouth twitched beneath the fabric of his mask.
"Yes well, the Hokage can't always be there to, provide," he answered, feigning interest in the papers beside him.
"I think I was the one doing the providing, Bakashi."
A long, drawn out sigh left the Hatake's lips and Obito watched, much to his frustration, as the emotion (and mood) on Kakashi's face shifted from easy going to oddly serious.
"You can't keep hiding from them forever, you know that."
"I'm not hiding. They don't want to see my ugly face, and I certainly don't want to see theirs."
Or hear them, he finished in his head. Not the insults, not the jeers, not the whispers that rose up behind him as he passed by, ones that he was almost certainly supposed to hear. How awful that such a criminal had been pardoned for his crimes. How terrible that so many good shinobi men and women had been lost and yet here he was, allowed to run free. Even if they didn't know what he had done exactly, the mood, the feeling was still there.
"I don't care," Obito said finally, his words fairly true. "I don't care what they think of me. I just don't want to hear it. They hated me before you know, thought I was scum. They think I'm less than the dirt they walk on now."
"You'll get there," Kakashi replied, his tone still light, still annoyingly gentle. "You know, they hate me a little too. I suppose that's fair enough, given that I did let a criminal walk free."
Sitting his cup down Obito leaned in a little, the tips of his fingers gazing against the end of Kakashi's mask.
"You know," he said, casually turning the subject. "Maybe it's *you* who's hiding, Kakashi. How are they supposed to trust a man whose face they can't even see?"
"Are you suggesting I just drop it?" A grey eyebrow rose. "You of all people should know, the mask doesn't come off."
A low chuckle sounded from Obito, the first he'd had in public in many weeks, as one finger hooked under the fabric, urging it down just a fraction of a hair.
"Only at night." A soft, needy sigh. "You can't expect me to reveal myself, to play nice and show off when you can't even bring yourself to do it, Kakashi."
"This isn't about me."
"It is now. You dragged me out here, forced me to socialize ..."
Kakashi groaned.
"What do you want?"
"A kiss. Prove your're not ashamed to be seen with me."
"I'm sitting right here Obito."
Despite his words, he made no move to halt the process as Obito finished pulling down his mask, a smirk hanging on his lips as Kakashi sat, looking fully and ridiciously exposed in the small sweets shop. A pity that the eyes of the other customers were turned away.
Their lips touched as Kakashi closed his eyes, arms folding against his chest while Obito kissed him, teeth hanging onto his lower lip for a second, teasing, tugging, before deepining the action once more and then splitting off with a soft pop.
"Happy now?" Kakashi asked, pulling the mask back up over his mouth quickly, but not before giving Obito a quick peek at the red coming ot his cheeks.
"Not really," Obito said, laying his head against a propped up hand. "I'm still out here. In public."
"And still without taking a single bite."
Obito snorted.
"When you go so long without having to eat, the rest of your body just naturally adapts."
"If I take it back to the office, will you eat it?"
"Hmm."
Obito titled his head more, face scrunched in mockerly of his childhood years as he pretended to think on it.
"Can I be on top tonight?"
Kakashi's eyes widened and then narrowed.
"I thought you were dead. Wouldn't that make you the bottom?"
"Not if I rise to the ocassion."
The loudest sigh yet left Kakashi and his head rolled back, clearly defeated.
"Fine. Get the dango, I have to get back anyway, or Shizume is going to kill me."
With a smug smile Obito jumped to his feet, grabbing up the sweets and gulping down the last of his drink as Kakashi passed the money into the smiling owner's hand, nervously laughing at her offer for, 'the lovebirds to come back at any time.' Truly a satisfying conclusion. Perhaps, Obito thought, he was getting better at beating his lover in competion after all.
"Speaking of rising," Kakashi said as they departed, hands going to his pockets as he looked up toward the sky, "I don't think the bread was the only thing that rose up in there."
Or, perhaps not.
"Shut up, Bakashi."

MC would be lavished with pampering (by professional pamperers) from dawn to dusk and when the clock struck midnight, they would be presented with seven bejeweled eagles (one for every day of the week) Julian would meet them for dinner in a shady tavern, bring them heaping plates of food and offer unsolicited advice for the coming year. Hokage’s Office: The Chair
100 Follower Celebration - Day 1
Kakashi Hatake x Reader || NSFW
Warnings: porn without plot, Kakashi’s filthy mouth, cursing, I mean what else do you want me to say? You all know what this is. I’ve been hyping it up for like a month.
Word count: 2,686
A/N: Guys... it’s here... It’s... something. I mean, it’s not as great as I hoped, but at least I did it. Also, we’re going to put 100% of all of these under the cut for lots of reasons.
He had that look in his eye when he realized it was you who’d opened the door. The one that practically screams twelve emotions at the same time.
You were his saving grace, and he was so grateful for the dinner you brought with you. He was sorry that he wasn’t home, even though you’d assured him hundreds of times that it was okay. Please take him away from this cursed job he didn’t even want. He would quit if he could. He forgot how amazing you looked in your uniform.
All of these thoughts flashed in Kakashi’s brain, but there was one that screamed much louder than the rest. He wanted you more than anything.
“Thanks,” Kakashi mumbled when you placed the Ichiraku Ramen bag atop a free spot on his desk, “You’re too good to me.”
You rounded his desk and chair only to glance at the paperwork he was reviewing over his shoulder. “You alright?” you inquired. Noticing how his broad, muscular shoulders were tensed, you gently massaged the muscles.
Kakashi finished up the paragraph he was on before he set the paper down and craned his neck towards you. He nodded in affirmation. “I’m alright, just a little stressed and wishing I was home.”
“Want me to help you relax?” you smirked, hands gently skimming from his shoulders down his chest.
You felt the way his lungs gasped in reaction to the touch. Goosebumps prickled across his skin while the blood in his veins seemed to move with traces of electricity. Simply seeing him react to such a slight caress had your own body at attention too.
In one swift motion, Kakashi swiveled his chair around, so your hands were now rested on his shoulders. He looked like a predator sizing you up that sinfully. The feral look in his eyes sparked a fire deep inside you, flaming across your skin to rest in your core, the beginnings of an ache only Kakashi could satisfy.
“Your dinner’s going to be cold.” It came out a lot breathier than you’d intended. Your pulse was beginning to pick up in anticipation.
Kakashi smirked from under his mask. He sat forward in his chair to place a palm across your hip. The other hand reached towards the fabric covering the bottom half of his face, and while he spoke, he hooked a digit on the edge and pulled it down. “Guess I’ll have dessert first then.”
His finger twisted into one of the loops at your hip, effectively yanking you into his lap and bringing you into a harsh kiss. He wasted no time wrapping his arms around you while you cupped his jaw to help deepen the kiss. It was all tongue and teeth, wasting no time in getting to the main event. You could feel your lips beginning to swell with the clashing of your embrace, but you couldn’t care any less.
Kakashi was already pawing at your breasts, and the sensation prompted a moan to break from your throat. The sound was muffled against Kakashi’s lips, but you could feel him smirk against you before he began to work his lips down your neck. His kisses were wet and open mouthed, nipping with sharp teeth every now and then, causing you to whimper in reply. The sensation of Kakashi’s mouth made your head spin, and you could feel the growing bulge in his pants rub against your thigh at the way you reacted to his touch. You had to ground yourself on his shoulders while your senses overwhelmed you, but you still couldn’t help yourself from moving your palm down his torso until you reached his half hard length. You ground your hand against him, feeling his member twitch and his muscles tense at the delicious friction. Even his mouth moaned against you while he kissed you, biting down harder to reprimand you for your attempt at controlling the situation.
When Kakashi pulled away from your neck, he practically growled. “Naughty little thing, aren’t you?”
One of his hands snaked around your ass to grope the flesh in his large hands before he playfully swatted as a signal for you to stand.
You followed his instructions after you placed a sweet kiss to his jaw as an attempt to apologize. He chuckled low in his chest, and the thought sent a wave of wetness flooding your core.
“Be a good girl and strip for me,” he commanded, his exposed eye was impossibly black, taking in every miniscule movement you made. Your shaking fingers slowly found the hem of your top, raising it over your head before discarding it on the floor. It could have been the cool air across your newly exposed skin, but you weren’t sure because of the way Kakashi was practically drinking in the sight before him. He could see your hardened nipples through the lace of your bra, and the sight made him want to rip the flimsy fabric off your body. However, he was distracted when you popped the button of your pants open while you gently chewed on your swollen lower lip. His throat bobbed with a swallow while you dragged the zipper down, exposing just the waistband of your panties.
His eyes traced up from the exposed fabric back to your mischievous eyes. “Did I say you could stop?” he inquired with a brow quirked.
Your only reply was the wiggle of your hips while you leisurely worked your pants off, stepping out of them and toeing off your sandals before you unhurriedly stalked towards his chair again. You knew he wasn’t in the mood for your teasing, but you couldn’t resist pushing him just a little bit. However, he took matters into his own hands, quickly unsheathing the kunai from his thigh, and in one fluid motion, he sliced through the last bits of lace. After returning his weapon to it’s rightful place, he reminded you, “Don’t test me. We both know who’s in charge here.”
Your breasts spilled from your bra, and the air that hit your wet folds made you shiver, and while you were distracted, Kakashi took the opportunity to sit you on one of his thighs.
“Be a good girl and play with your nipples for me,” the deep timbre of his voice practically cooed.
Your hands shakily moved to the plush flesh of your chest, kneading the weight in your hands a bit before you focused on your already pebbled nipples. You twisted them slightly and let out a whimper at the sensation. Static prickled under your skin from the friction, and you felt it jolt down to your core. You needed friction between your legs, so you tilted your hips to grind against Kakashi’s thigh. However, his hands gripped your hips tight.
You whined under your breath, but he raised a brow at you. “Did I say you could ride my thing?”
The shake of your head wasn’t enough for him. His fingers dug in harder, sure to leave purple prints across your hips tomorrow. “I asked you a question.”
“No, I’m sorry. Please, I need something.” You could tell by the look on his face that he was debating. Was he going to punish you for taking without asking, or was he going to give you what you asked for. “Please, please, Kakashi.”
“Do you think you deserve it?” He still held a devious look in his eye while he gazed at your flushed face.
It was a double-edged sword, so you didn’t answer, praying that you’d satisfy him enough to deal with the fire you felt burning inside you. “Please, I need you. I can’t take it.”
“Very well.”
Kakashi slapped your thigh playfully, guiding your hips so they were where he wanted them. Your weight was on your knees, outside of Kakashi’s, but your hips were above his. It took all of your willpower to keep yourself from grinding throbbing cunt grinding against the tent in his pants, but you knew you had to be good for him.
A gasp tore from your lungs, ending with a loud moan. The sound triggered by Kakashi’s fingers brushing against your practically dripping folds, pressing softly, and dragging your slick around until they found that little bud that made you keen for him.
His rough fingertips provided amazing friction while they circled your clit, and your back arched on it’s own accord. Fireworks sparked throughout your body at the sensation, and one of your hands clawed into Kakashi’s shoulder. Meanwhile, he had his eyes trained on you, breath labored while he watched you writhe above him. He could feel his dick twitch at the sight of you looking so wrecked just from a little touch. Then, a lightbulb went off in his head.
His fingers paused their ministrations, making you whimper at the loss of friction. However, instead, they trailed down to circle your wet entrance.
His voice was rough, sending chills of arousal straight to where his fingers toyed. “Look how wet you are already. So needy for me, aren’t you?”
“Yes, Kakashi,” you sighed. Your head rolled back at the sensation of his fingers barely dipping into you while he teased you, your eyes squeezing shut. It was almost impossible to resist the urge to grab his hand and fuck yourself with his long, thick digits.
A low chuckle from the man below you made your hips twitch a slight bit. It spurred him on, though. He was biting his swollen lower lip, and you noticed him shift uncomfortably in his spot. Without any other warning, he sunk one of his fingers into you all the way down to the knuckle. He didn’t even bother to take off the fingerless gloves he always wore.
You moaned out at the welcome intrusion, clenching around the single digit. If anyone else was in the building at this hour, you were sure they could hear it, but you couldn’t find it in you to care when Kakashi curled his finger so deliciously against you.
The previous attention to your clit was quickly replaced by the gloved heel of his palm, pressing against the bud while he continued pumping his fingers. The fabric provided a wonderful sensation, and your brain started shutting down. Not to mention, Kakashi could feel your wetness seeping through the fabric and onto his palm. He seemed to be getting off on it all because you noticed him trying to palm himself through his pants.
“You want another?” he practically smirked. All you could do was nod in response before Kakashi obliged, slipping another finger inside of you. You whimpered at the sensation of him stretching you out further, scissoring his digits inside you a bit before he ceased all his movements. A lightbulb went off in that moment while you tried to keep from writhing on his fingers. “Fuck yourself on my fingers like the needy little girl you are.”
The look in his eye at had you clenching around his fingers, and it made him smile in victory. All you could do was pant in that moment, taken aback by his request. Although, it didn’t take you long to start moving your hips, using your free hand to guide his wrist while you tried to mimic Kakashi’s previous actions.
Inside your gut, you could feel the beginnings of an orgasm bubbling up, and you tried to work Kakashi’s fingers deeper and deeper with each drag. However, your body jolted in surprise when you found that little spot inside you that made you see stars. Your grip on Kakashi’s wrist tightened, and he encouraged you, “There it is.”
You cried out, rocking your hips into his hand, making sure you were catching all of the little nerves you could. The fire inside you began to consume you while your movements became more desperate and jerky. The white-hot pleasure was so close with each squelching thrust meeting Kakashi’s fingers.
“Look at you,” he panted out, his other hand undoing his pants, “desperately fucking yourself on my fingers with that pretty little pussy. You look so good like this, so desperate to cum.”
“Yes! Kakashi! Yes! I’m so close!” You could feel your body approaching its limit. The sounds spilling from your mouth and his both spurring you on, but Kakashi’s voice made you whine out again.
“Did I say you could cum?” Just when you were twitching around him at your breaking point, he broke out of your hold and retracted his hand. Your dripping heat clenched around nothing, feeling impossibly empty with the loss of his fingers. “You’re gonna cum on my cock like the good girl you are.”
“Yes, sir,” you affirmed, palms immediately taking Kakashi out of his pants and underwear, giving him a few strokes before greedily positioning yourself atop him. However, Kakashi’s fingers grabbed your hips before you could sink onto him.
You noted his slick fingers and dampened glove, and it made heat rush to your cheeks. However, Kakashi just smirked at your realization. “You seemed to enjoy that, didn’t you. Now, I just need you to calm down a little for me. Don’t want you finishing too soon, now do we?”
You shook your head at him before he took his time, drinking in every inch of exposed skin across your body while his fingers traced up and down your skin with soothing caresses. However, once your breathing evened a tad, his lips dove into yours for a desperate kiss. While his mouth crashed against yours, he guided his tip to your entrance and slowly slid you down until he was completely sheathed inside you. The both of you let out a sinful moan at the feeling of him stretching you out, and it felt so right. You always felt impossibly full when Kakashi fucked you, but somehow, int that moment, you felt like you were going to explode.
You barely had time to adjust before Kakashi was guiding your hips atop him, helping you fuck him the way he wanted. It had you clenching around his length each time he’d enter you, and you clung to him for support. Gradually, the two of you built up a pace that had you bouncing on his dick, and you were practically shaking when he groaned into your ear.
“Fuck, you’re so tight,” he grunted, “You feel so good around my cock. Touch yourself while you ride me.”
You moaned at his words, but you followed instruction. One of your hands moved down to touch your swollen clit, rubbing it frantically in an attempt to reach the high you’d been denied. It didn’t take long for you to start fluttering around him, that electricity flowing through your veins igniting inside the both of you.
“You’re so close,” Kakashi remarked, “You gonna be a good girl and come all over my cock?”
“Yes, Kakashi! Yes!” you cried out, your hips beginning to stutter, but Kakashi guided you through it. The coil in your core was about to break with the way Kakashi had your hips crashing into his, and you were clawing you way to your peak.
It was all over when Kakashi began to move his own hips out of desperation, meeting your thrusts with his own, shoving himself as deep as your bodies would allow. He twitched inside you, signaling that his own orgasm was quickly approaching, and the thought of him about to cum inside you sent you toppling over the edge. The spring in your stomach snapped, and you clenched around Kakashi’s length with a cry of his name. Your entire body shook with the shockwaves of absolute delight. Your body was screaming with pleasure while Kakashi thrusted into you a few final times, finding his own release thanks to yours. The sensation of his hot seed painting your insides kept your orgasmic haze going while the both of you rode out the waves of pleasure.
Once the two of you stilled, you collapsed atop of him in his chair in a mess of sticky limbs. You really needed to bring him dinner more often.

Healing Hands, Chapter 10
A03, Fanfiction
The minute hand of the clock seemed to move five times slower than usual. Sakura checked it for the hundredth time, then sighed and turned back to the file that she'd been reading. Technically, she had the day off unless there was an emergency, but the image of Yamato from the previous night made it impossible to rest. Sakura had been at her desk since dawn to work through the backlog of files that covered it. By the time the pile dwindled to a manageable amount, lunch had come and gone.
Sakura had left the Anbu evaluations in her bag until she'd decided how to handle them. She'd reconciled herself to delivering the results and the information that she'd discovered last night to Kakashi. Yamato was in no condition to be taking missions, much less leading Anbu level ones. In his current state, that man would be a liability at best and a tragedy at worst. While many shinobi were functional drinkers, Yamato added another level of complexity to that idea. Sakura suspected that his alcohol usage only scratched the surface of things that he needed to deal with.
Putting away another file, Sakura looked around her office. This was the first time that she'd been completely caught up on her paperwork since taking over Tsunade's position. Her desk looked strange without the stacks of paper cluttering the space. After moving the keyboard around, Sakura's gaze drifted back to the clock. There was still half an hour until the deadline. Sakura could go over the report one more time to check that she was ready to present it, but she knew the information backward and forward by now.
A knock pulled Sakura's attention away from the clock, and her stomach tightened in anticipation of who might be on the other side. "Come in," she called.
A sick taste rose in Sakura's throat when the door opened to reveal Yamato. He wore the standard navy jonin uniform; it brought up memories of a time before all of this chaos, but Sakura pushed that away. She couldn't be swayed by the past or the blush that covered Yamato's cheeks. His dark brown eyes were rimmed in red from the lack of sleep and alcohol, but it was an improvement over yesterday. Sakura felt a wash of relief and anger at the sight, but neither emotion was strong enough to cancel the other.
Sakura took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I didn't think you'd come."
"Me either." Yamato stepped into the office, shutting the door behind him. He rubbed the back of the neck and looked around for something to rest his eyes on. They settled a few inches above Sakura's head, and she nodded toward a chair on the opposite side of her desk.
Yamato sank into the cushions and shifted from side to side to find a more comfortable position. Sakura watched him in silence. His posture was reminiscent of Naruto just before the boy got a stern lecture from Iruka-sensei at the academy. The comparison nearly made Sakura laugh, but she held it back and nodded toward his arm. "How's the hand?"
"Sore." Yamato raised his fist and flexed his fingers as much as the bandages would allow. "But, I suppose that was the point."
Humming in agreement, Sakura nodded. Part of her wanted to push Yamato to explain the previous night in more detail, but she didn't. Yamato frowned and smoothed his pants across his knee, then adjusted the fall of his sleeve over the bandage. When Sakura didn't continue the conversion, he sighed. "I'm sorry; I drank too much."
Sakura crossed her arms over her chest. "That's an understatement. You could barely stand up."
Yamato's sheepish smile made him look five years younger, more like the man that Sakura remembered. "Kakashi always said I couldn't hold my alcohol."
The joke fell flat when Sakura didn't laugh. There was nothing amusing about the situation that they'd found themselves in. "Why?"
Yamato's chuckle sounded forced. "Probably because of things like last night. I get clumsy and sleepy when I've been drinking. He used to tease me about it in Anbu. In fact, he probably would have found the whole situation hilarious."
Crossing one leg over the other, Sakura tapped her foot in the air and fought to keep her temper under control. Her lips pressed into a thin line before she responded. "You know that isn't what I meant."
Yamato pushed to his feet and paced in front of Sakura's desk for two circuits, then shrugged without meeting her gaze. Fury boiled through her veins at the lack of response. "You don't know? You weren't just a little drunk. You were 'I can't stand up or function, blackout drunk'. What happened to the strict, 'always follow the rules' leader that you used to be? Or, was all of that an act too?"
The footsteps slowed, then paused as Yamato stopped to face Sakura. "My job was to make Kakashi's students trust me, and to keep them alive. I did it well." His eyes narrowed. "I will not apologize for hiding the fact that I was in Anbu. You had no reason to know."
"That has nothing to do with—"
Yamato rounded so quickly that Sakura shrank against her chair in a moment of instinctual fear. "Isn't it? You've been angry at me since you found out I was in Anbu. And now, you're trying to get me put on leave over nothing."
"Nothing," Sakura growled, exasperation sharpening her voice. She reached for her bag, pulled out the report that she'd wanted to discuss since yesterday, and threw it onto the desk. "The amount of stimulants in your system on the day of your physical were almost twice as high as the reading at the end of your last mission. And, I checked; you haven't been out of the village since. So, why was it there? Why were you drinking so heavily after taking them? Are you trying to kill yourself?"
Yamato glanced down at the papers spilling across the desk without answering. His jaw tightened, trapping he words inside. Shaking her head, Sakura gathered the report and folded her hands over it. "If you don't want to talk to me, that's fine. I can get Kakashi up to speed, and we can—"
"No," Yamato interrupted before Sakura could finish her thought. "There's no need to get him involved with this."
Sakura frowned at the apprehension written in Yamato's posture. His shoulders tensed like he expected a blow, but she couldn't change the truth. "I have to recommend a temporary removal from duty, at least until you take care of whatever is going on."
Yamato pressed his fingers to the desk and leaned in to meet Sakura's gaze. She saw fear in his eyes as he exhaled hard through his nose. "I don't need to take care of anything. I'm not an alcoholic. I just, I couldn't sleep, and I needed something to take the edge off."
"You mean you needed something to take the edge off of the stimulants that you'd been taking?" Sakura fought to keep pity from her voice. This wasn't something that could be brushed under the rug, not anymore. She was determined to stand up for the mental health of Anbu, whether they wanted it or not.
"It's complicated." Yamato glanced down at his injured hand for a long moment, eyes going distant.
Sakura left the man to his thoughts. Drinking to forget a bad mission was something that she could understand. She'd seen things during the war that she wanted to leave behind. But, stimulant usage made no sense, especially when paired with alcohol. Sakura tucked the report back into her bag and shrugged. "If you won't talk to me about it, you need to get psych clearance from T&I to return to duty."
Nodding, Yamato pushed away from Sakura's desk. He seemed smaller than he had fifteen minutes ago, like some of the bluster had leached out. Sakura couldn't help but wonder if that was a good sign, or a bad one. "Fine," he agreed, voice soft enough to be a whisper. "I'll do that."
Surprise and relief flooded Sakura. She'd thought that it would be harder to convince Yamato to get help. "Do you want me to set up an appointment?"
"No, you've done enough already." Yamato managed another weak laugh that lacked any trace of humor, then nodded toward the door. "I guess there's no time like the present."
"I guess not," Sakura agreed, standing as Yamato moved further away. "I know it sounds miserable, but this really is for the best."
Yamato offered a tight smile and paused like he had something to say. Then, he shook his head and stepped out of the office.

Inner Turmoil - Chapter 3
Chapter 3 - Kakashi, So Help Me!
FFN | AO3
Sakura couldn’t have felt more trepidation than she had the last few days. How do you tell your surrogate mother, that is also the hokage, that you love, and may have possibly, slightly, maybe, already slept with your team leader who is 14 years your senior? And your former sensei? Certainly she would be at least a little understanding, right? Maybe she could at least be happy for her? Would she disband team 7? No, that would be horrible….
She went to sit up, being forced to remember the pale, muscular arm that was currently pinning her waist to a chest. A very muscular and defined chest. She turned red as she heard her lover grumble softly as he began to wake up. “Sakura, where are you going…”
Ah yes, speaking of sleeping with him, it has been in his bed that she had been in for the last three nights. And not exactly very conspicuously. Not that she had any regrets, but it was all still so new. It was only a little over a week ago she had been pep-talked by none other than Naruto to try and get through to Kakashi.
She smiled softly, flipping over awkwardly to face him. “Well, someone, meaning one of us, should probably tell the hokage we’re together before she hears through the gossip that is beginning to start…”
He opened his charcoal eye to watch her carefully. “And you intend to do that, right now, when she’s probably hung over and already going to be angry.”
Sakura giggled. “If you think I can’t handle her hangovers after going through being trained by her, you’re sadly mistaken. I learned to dodge things quite well under her wing!”
He chuckled as pulled her closer and kissed her forehead. “I love you.” He said softly. “But maybe, I should be the one to tell her.”
She gazed up at Kakashi, a little confused at his offer. “Are you sure about that?” She placed a hand on his cheek. “I’m almost certain she would pummel you without thinking twice, unlike myself.”
He smirked. “Perhaps, I deserve that exact pummeling.” His face fell a bit as his thoughts tread deeper. He was currently in bed, naked from last night, with his former student. The more he thought about it, the more he was beginning to want to distance himself, no matter how much he loves her. He didn’t think it was worth ruining her life with it.
Sakura knit her eyebrows together in concern, before sliding her hand from his cheek into his hair and kissing him softly.
He returned the kiss half-heartedly at first, the feelings of discouragement present in his mind. When her leg moved to wrap around his waist, he pressed her flesh against his body, earning a soft moan from his pinkette. He slanted his mouth over hers fully, easily sliding his tongue past her lips to tangle with her own. She hummed softly in approval, tugging softly at his silver strands.
He rolled her over onto her back, kissing down her jawline and neck. “At this rate, we won’t tell her before her hangover fades.” He chuckled softly, running his hands down her sides, delighted at the shivers running through her body from his touch.
She opened her eyes to gaze at him lovingly before sitting up, and cradling his face in her hands. “I love you, Kakashi.” She smiled warmly, before pecking his lips softly once more. “But we have got to tell her today.”
He rested his forehead against hers, and nodded softly. “I’ll get dressed and head over to the hokage tower now.”
Sakura looked away. “Do you think she would disband team seven because of us..?” She huffed. “What about Naruto?”
Kakashi sighed softly. “I’m sure Naruto is well aware of the possibilities that us getting together could lead to. I’m not really sure what she will do, but that is usually the protocol when a leader becomes romantically involved with a teammate. But I can imagine she isn’t going to be happy…”
She nodded before curling back up in his blankets and sighing.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can. Don’t wait on me if you have plans.” He chuckled softly and kissed her forehead.
He stood up and strided over to his dresser, grabbing one of his usual standard uniforms. He eased himself into his pants, finding his muscles to feel a bit stiff. He slid a shirt over his torso before slipping on his flak vest. Within moments he was gone from his apartment, leaving Sakura in her thoughts.
Shizune softly knocked on the door, assuming the Fifth would be hungover this morning, as she was many other recent mornings. “My Lady…”
“Go away, there are no mission reports to be gathered as I am more than well aware none of the shinobi I sent are back yet!” The blonde hokage grumbled as her head laid on her desk.
“I actually maybe have some other news of interest, My Lady….” Shizune opened the door to the office of her master and hokage, and the hokages that had come before her. She held a glass of water in her hand, and Tonton in her other arm. “There appear to be some rumours going about.”
Tsunade snatched the glass of water. “Are you really interrupting my hangover with petty gossip, Shizune?” She narrowed her eyes over the rim of the glass as she took a sip, her manicured hands gripping the glass tightly.
“Uh, well. I wouldn’t say i-it is petty gossip, but yes, gossip nonetheless.” Shizune gulped audibly, knowing her friend would not appreciate the coming news.
Tsunade eyed the raven haired girl from behind her desk. She had better hope it was worth waking her up or else she just might knock her into next week. Maybe from right out the window from the top of this damned tower. “Well, get on with it then, what are you waiting for?” She grumbled and settled back against her chair.
Shizune set her shoulders before meeting Tsunade's eyes. “When was the last time you spoke with Sakura?”
The blonde busty woman raised an eyebrow. “Why would Sakura be the object of gossip among shinobi?” Her voice was level, and her fists clenched, ready to clobber anyone who might think it a good idea to put dirt on the name of one of her apprentices.
“Ah, so you haven’t spoken with her in, say, the last week? Month?” Shizune chuckled nervously. “Maybe perhaps about something in her… Personal life?”
“Shizune, the last time I spoke to Sakura, we were talking about her wish to open up a mental health clinic specifically aimed toward shinobi and the traumas they face, as well as her current project with the children’s clinic that she and Ino plan to run together.” She huffed out irritably. “And that was a little over a month ago, outside of just directing her duties in the hospital, as you would know from being present yourself. I don’t know if you could tell, but I’ve been rather busy here and so has she at the hospital.”
Shizune rolled her eyes. Knowing busy was really drowning in sake and grief like usual, only worse still since the death of the beloved Jiraiya. She knew why she drank so much more lately, everyone did. No one had yet dared say anything to her as she still met her hokage duties sober… Mostly so anyway.
“So, no. I haven’t been told about anything in her personal life.” Tsunade snapped. “Now, spill it before you piss me off even more, damnit.”
“Rumours are going around that she and Kakashi are…” Shizune scratched the back of her neck. “Well uh… Together, you could say? Genma said he took her home from the bar about a month ago while they were both pretty deep into drinking.” She watched as Tsunade’s glare only deepened.
“Well, I would think it fit that Kakashi would make sure she got home safely, even in a drunken state. He knows how to handle his liquor like any shinobi. Though Sakura still has that to learn…” The amber eyed woman said through gritted teeth.
“True…” Shizune nodded. “However… That wouldn’t explain Raidou telling me that he heard Asuma telling Kurenai he found Kakashi ‘tangled up with the hokage’s apprentice’, about a month ago...” She snickered lightly. “And we both know it wasn’t me, because I’ve been ‘tangled up’ with Genma…” She blushed lightly at the admittance, even though she knows her shishou is well aware of her feelings for that ‘imbecile’ as she calls him.
“You mean to tell me…” Tsunade stood up from her desk. “That Kakashi is sleeping with Sakura, as a team leader, and her former sensei.”
Truth be told she couldn’t give a damn less that they were together, it was more about how she was finding out. She couldn’t believe Sakura hadn’t told her. Kakashi followed his duty well, so to find that he hadn’t informed her of such events was shocking. Her eyes narrowed the more she thought about the situation.
She was more than well aware that no matter how much Sakura had grown as a ninja, she was still vulnerable emotionally, and the very thought that she could just been used in a drunken one night stand made the motherly woman’s blood boil, well aware that Kakashi was not one for attachments and that Sakura very well would get attached.
“Y-Yes… My Lady.” Shizune nodded softly.
“You find that damned white wolf and you get him in my office, now!”
“Baa-chan!” Naruto came bounding into the office. “Are there any-”
“Naruto, what have I told you about just barging in here!”
Naruto cowered at the sight of her already being angry. “Ah! Why are you so angry, it’s only 9AM, Granny!” Naruto whined and shielded himself from potentially flying office supplies.
“No matter, go find your damned team leader and you had better do it right now!” She snapped.
“Uh-oh…” Naruto nodded gravely and darted from his future office.
That can’t be a good sign. If Kakashi is the reason Tsunade is so angry that could only mean one thing…
Naruto was making a beeline for Kakashi’s apartment before slamming into a familiar and rather amused looking blonde ninja. “Ah, sorry Ino, gotta go!”
“I knew it!” The blonde screeched, having overheard the prior conversation. “Sakura is with Kakashi!”
“Well, yeah! She didn’t tell you?” Naruto stopped and stared at Ino dumbfounded.
“You mean she told you, but not me!”
“Uh… Well… Not exactly. I mean…” Naruto scratched the back of his head. “It’s kind of hard not to notice some kind of romantic tension between your teammates, especially when Sakura came over crying about a month ago, convinced that Kakashi couldn’t love her-” Naruto clamped his mouth shut, realizing Sakura may beat him senseless for revealing such intel. “Oh, man! I’ve already said too much!” And turned and darted out of the building. “Granny Tsunade is gonna skin Kakashi alive!”
“Tsunade is gonna do what to my flawless skin…?” Kakashi deadpanned from the entrance to the Hokage tower as Naruto ran past him. He gave a weary look to the top.
Something tells me someone told her before I got to do just that in a few moments from now… This is gonna be fun. He shivered at the thought of her brute strength aimed directly at him, and with full intent of causing bodily harm. “Perhaps I should turn around before she gets the chance..?” He shook his head and sighed.
“Wait! Kakashi!” Naruto ran back to his team leader. “Kakashi, I think Granny Tsunade knows…” He laughed nervously. “And she’s definitely not uh… Thrilled?” He scratched the back of his head. “She sent me to get you but you’re already here! She’s scary mad already...”
“That bad, huh?” Kakashi deadpanned. “Well I knew this was coming.” He sighed before walking up to his beloved hokage’s office. He went to knock on the door before she berated him through it.
“Kakashi, I know that’s you! Get your ass in here, now!”
He stepped inside and closed the door. “Hokage-sama. I was already on my way before you sent Naruto for me.”
Tsunade glared daggers at him. “So then you have something to tell me?” She enunciated her words rather harshly compared to other meetings and he winced silently.
“Well, uh. I’m not exactly good at expressing myself, for reasons you’re rather quite aware…” Kakashi looked at her and proceeded to rake his fingers through his silver strands. He thought briefly for a moment about how it feels much better when Sakura does it before clearing his mind.
Shizune watched him closely, curious about how this all ended up happening.
“Do you really think Sakura is an acceptable kunoichi for you to be having little rendezvous with, Kakashi?” She growled out.
He flinched slightly. “Tsunade, they aren’t just rendezvous.” He straightened up and met her eyes. “Do you really think I’m stupid enough to bring that sort of awkwardness and unprofessionalism to my team?”
“Don’t you catch a tone with me!” She stood up and came round her desk and stomped towards him, her heels clicking with her fury, until she was face to face with him. “And if that’s not the case, then maybe you should explain to me these damn rumours about my apprentice being tangled up with you.”
“Well, that part is no rumour.” He said flatly, looking her in the eye. “Now, the context surrounding it, perhaps.” He kept his shoulders straight, continuing to hold eye contact. “This isn’t just some fling, Tsunade. ”
Outside the room, Sakura slowly came up to the door. She was about to knock when she heard Tsunade’s voice.
Tsunade watched him carefully, listening to what he was saying. “Since when did you fall in love? You’ve avoided being close to anyone since your original team.” She knew it was a low blow, but he had better not been playing her naive apprentice. “Sakura is rather impressionable, Kakashi, I won’t have another emotional stump ripping her heart out if I can help it, damn you.”
“I love her. I... love Sakura.” He sighed, and slumped into one of the chairs in her office. “You don’t have to tell me that she’s vulnerable…” He was a little surprised at the vehemence in her voice, expecting more of a lecture of duty from a boss, as opposed to the protective fury of a mother. He should have known the two would mix here. “I have absolutely no intentions of ripping her heart out, Lady Tsunade.”
“Kakashi, if you break her, so help me, you will know no other pain than what I inflict upon you… She is not some plaything for you.” The blonde spat at him.
She smiled softly, being well aware of Tsunade throwing around threats shamelessly, but also at the protectiveness in the voice bearing the words. She couldn’t believe that Kakashi was being so raw with her shishou. When she heard Kakashi’s voice, sounding more than stressed she frowned.
He met Tsunade’s eyes, allowing more emotion into them for her to see than he ever had for anyone other than Sakura. “Did you ever think maybe she came to me? I never intended to act on my feelings, ever.” He took a deep breathe, trying to keep himself composed. “Sure, we got drunk, and she cried that she didn’t want to be alone. In a lapse of judgement, I brought her to my place with no real intentions other than to comfort her, like I always have. She kissed me, and I let it go a little too far before I realized I had my former student pinned between myself and my couch and my mouth.” He gulped. “I tried to distance myself, even though I have realized I care for her deeply, more deeply than I could say I’ve ever cared for any team mate.”
Sakura wanted nothing more than to burst through the door and save him from her master’s wrath but he insisted he be the one to tell her, and here he was doing exactly that. She knew this wouldn’t be a pretty conversation, but she had hoped Tsunade wouldn’t automatically assume the worst of him. She stood out the door, eavesdropping and holding her breath at times to make sure she could hear them clearly.
“You were her sensei! How long have you ‘cared deeply’ for her, eh? Hopefully not while she was 13.” Tsunade spat. “Not even Jiraiya was ever so dirty.”
He scoffed. “It’s not like that! Just because I enjoyed Jiraiya’s books and am a bit perverted doesn’t make me that disgusting!” He shot back. “I’m well aware of how it looks, but I would have never looked at her in such a way while she was still a child. I never… Intended to ever look at her past being a comrade…” He threw his hands up, his next words coming sarcastically. “Yeah, I totally sat there and looked at her back then and thought ‘wow maybe I could love again’ when she was thirteen and I was twenty-six! Do you really think that low of me?” He huffed.
Tsunade stared at him momentarily, taken aback by the outburst coming from the usually indifferent and emotionally stable man. Perhaps that was a bit far of an accusation. She sighed and crossed her arms. “No, I don’t. That was uncalled for.” She stared at him with narrowed eyes. “But how does this happen? You’ve been stone cold, even keeping people close to you, like Guy, at arm’s length. And now you’re telling me you love Sakura. How long has this been going on, hm? Also, how about the part where it’s your responsibility to inform me of such dynamics forming so that I can decide whether or not to reassign your team?”
“I had been coming here to tell you about everything before you sent for me. I have already even warned Sakura that we could be reassigned.”
Kakashi stopped talking a moment, feeling pensive. Remembering the little moments that had begun to shift his feelings toward her. Fleeting moments during training and spars, when she would be dressed a bit scantily. Moments when they had made eye contact for just a little too long. Moments where he had comforted her or saved her. Moments where he allowed physical contact between them more and more often until it felt normal with her. Moments where she found him at the stone, and he told her bits and pieces of his pain. Moments where being open just came naturally before he even thought about it. Moments when he realized he felt jealousy over her with other guys. Moments where he began to realize he didn’t want life without her, that simply staring at her name on a stone would never suffice his grief and guilt if she ever died. Moments where his judgement had faltered even just slightly, like the night of the bar.
“And if you never planned to act on it, what changed now?”
He sighed, deciding he’d have to start from the beginning. “I was at the bar, Genma convinced me to go. To my understanding, Ino had convinced Sakura to go out, but then got drunk and sad and called Choji to pick her up. Sakura had stayed behind, I’m not sure as to why.” He shrugged, knowing Tsunade would care less about the parts not involving himself. “There had been some creep trying to demand her attention and wasn’t taking no for an answer, and she had sought out the ‘jounin corner’ where we always sit when we go-”
“And who is ‘we’” Tsunade asked.
“Asuma, Guy, Genma, Anko, Kurenai, Genma, and Kakashi, and sometimes I’m there as well.” Shizune cut in.
Kakashi nodded. “Kurenai's eyes widened and then a female voice was saying something about having asked to be left alone, and I recognized her as I finally sensed her chakra. I had been on my third careen.” He scratched the back of his head, clearly knowing that was too much.
“Then I heard the man talking to her in one of those dark, low tones, suggesting she went with him. I turned my head and threatened him, and saw just this look on her face as she was looking at me. I had never seen her so happy, no, so relieved, to just be near me. And the way that guy was looking at her had just-” He grimaced at the memory. “I’d never felt such a need to make it clear someone wasn’t available, even though she was! I just felt so… Possessive but also protective of her. I pulled her in close to me, and then even after he’s gone, she doesn’t move, and seems rather content. It piqued my curiosity, but I was drunk and it was wrong.” He hesitated to continue, sure that the next part just might get him a chakra enhanced fist in his face, but decided the truth was well worth whatever pain he may end up with.
“Once she kissed me at my apartment and I heard her moan from a simple touch, I was instantly sober, because I realized my former student was in my arms and even if I had started to realize I loved her, us being drunk was not how I would have ever wanted us to start.” He shook his head softly. Tsunade raised an eyebrow, having been surprised to hear her student had made such a bold move. “So tell me, where did you go from there? How do you end up with her still even after that lapse, and you still pushing her away?”
“It hurt her because I backed off and told her she was drunk and I wouldn’t take advantage of her and this was wrong, that what I did was wrong. I let her sleep in my bed and I slept on the couch.” He heard her hum softly, but now she’s staring at him intently and he hates being under such scrutiny. “And then a few days later, Naruto bursts into my apartment ready to kill me because she’s at his house crying to Hinata over that night because little do I know, she loves me and fears that it was just alcohol and lust that lead me to kiss her back. And damn it, it wasn’t but I was just trying to do right by her. ”
He gripped his fists on the arms of the chair. “I’ve never met anyone who ever made me even consider love, let alone feel it. Not since Minato died… I would never intentionally cause her pain.” He said brokenly.
Sakura hates to hear the pain in his voice. She placed her hand silently on the door, wishing she could comfort him. She just wanted to see him and hold him, knowing the pain that lies in his memories of losing his sensei, the last surviving family he had had. She had stopped masking her chakra, not caring if any of them knew she were there. She would still hold the respect and not walk in without invitation. To hear the man being so open and raw in his feelings for her shocked her a bit, knowing he was almost never like that with anyone. However, it was seeming he was being ripped apart by Naruto and now Tsunade over her, when he had let those walls come down slowly between them. It just made her feel guilty...
“Kakashi…” Tsunade softened suddenly, sensing a familiar chakra signature.
She could see now, the anger fading. The way Kakashi seemed like an open book, even if it was out of pure fear of what she might do. The more she thought about it, the more she started to realize she had seen them together an awful lot over the past year or so. How Sakura was always happy around him, and always chose to train with him when she could have trained with anyone. She vaguely remembers the very man in front of her bringing coffee a few times to the pinked haired girl, despite his hate for hospitals.
And she even remembered how much less he fought and complained about being healed or being in a hospital whenever Sakura was appointed to care for him, whether it was a serious injury or his routine check ups on the sharingan.
“I was disgusted with myself.” He said in a low tone. “Look at me. I’m jaded and traumatized like most ninja my age. Falling for this…” He smiled a little bit. “This girl I initially looked over years ago, because she acted like a typical emotional girl and not a shinobi, fawning over Sasuke. This girl that went under the tutelage of yourself, and became a woman and a strong shinobi. This woman who has seen a war, yet still has this hope in her eyes. This woman who was always at my side for the past year. I only ever realized how much she had truly grown in a sparring session, and have felt the disgust with myself since, and it only grew worse after that kiss. This woman, who somehow got behind my walls, and rather easily. This woman who insisted on taking care of me, this woman who knows exactly what, and who she wants, no matter what judgements will be thrown. This woman, that I’ve already hurt, and have failed multiple times. How did she go from loving Sasuke, to loving the man that couldn’t keep him with her? How did she get under my skin and make me love her too? I can’t tell you when it started because I spent a good deal of time refusing to even acknowledge it. And even when I did admit it to myself, it felt wrong.”
“Kakashi, she was your student…” Shizune said softly. Tsunade put a hand up in Shizune's direction.
He frowned before cradling his head in his hands. “Yeah, I’m well aware. I was her sensei. I’m fourteen years older. I’m broken, and she’s not, not yet. Not as much as me. She’s still innocent and still believes in life. She has a whole life ahead of her, and doesn’t deserve to be with someone like me… She doesn’t deserve for everyone to look at her like some scandal. Or like she’s just trying to climb the ranks, even though she’s already a jounin herself. She doesn’t deserve to be in a relationship where people question the validity. She deserves someone that can be open all the time, someone that is affectionate and available. Someone who isn’t traumatized and damaged.”
Tsunade placed a hand on his shoulder, a small smile on her face. “Kakashi, stop it… You don’t need to keep tearing yourself apart like this. This is nothing like it looked like initially, you’re not disgusting, and if anyone decides what she deserves, it’s her. And maybe myself.”
“But yet, here she goes after me. After Naruto tells me she was crying because of me, and tries to desperately convince me to tell her I love her once I confide it in him. I don't go to the breakfast he planned, because I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t ruin her life, she couldn’t be hurt by what she doesn’t know. Or worse, bear the thought of losing her if I did let myself actually have her.” He looks up at the ceiling. “But here she comes to the memorial, as if she knows exactly where I’ll be, and knows I’ve been there most of the night. Because she does know. And she’s there, just talking to me, comforting me and I don’t think she even realizes her very presence is comforting to me.”
Shizune watched, now feeling guilty. She hadn’t realized the actual emotions that were tumbling through them.
“All I’m thinking about is how I have failed them, and wondering what Minato would think of me as a sensei. I never lusted after her, I didn’t want this to happen, I knew the consequences of fraternizing with her in a regular situation, let alone in the one where I’m her sensei and much older than she is.”
But she doesn’t care. She never cared about any of that. She only cared that he loved her and she loved him.
“And then she says I need my eye healed, so we go to my apartment and while she’s doing that, I’m thinking about what Naruto said, and about how much I just want to hold her and kiss her. And then she’s telling me she remembers that night and how she felt. I gave in as she’s pulling my mask down and I kissed her. She tells me she loves me, that I’ve always been there for her, and she looks me in the face and holds it in her hands and tells me she’s not going anywhere…” He looked back up at Tsunade. “I thought she was just sick of being alone, but when she did that… When she looked at me said she loved me so sincerely. I just had to believe that maybe Naruto was right, that maybe it could work and we could just…” He ran a hand through his hair. “That we could just be happy. That I could be happy…”
Sakura smiled at the admission, at the fact that he had faith in love, even if it was only a little bit, and that it was fragile. That she was the reason it was there, that Naruto had convinced him even just a little bit that it was worth it…
Tsunade turned away from him and sighed. “Are you aware of what this all entails? What the consequences are…”
He nodded. “Team Kakashi will be disbanded…”
She raised her gaze to meet him again, smirking. “Well, according to the elders it should be. What I might do, on the contrary, is very different. Disbanding your team won’t stop or change the relationship.”
“Shishou!” Sakura burst through the door, not able to take it anymore. “Please, don’t hurt him!” She came up behind Kakashi, placing her hands on his shoulders, a pleading look in her eyes. He glanced up at her in shock, having been too caught up in trying to prove to his superior his feelings were valid and try not to get thrown out of the window like he pictured already, to ever sense Sakura’s presence behind the door.
Tsunade was well aware her apprentice had been outside the door for some time now. She turned to face her student. “Is there a reason why I had to hear about this from Shizune, who heard it from Genma and Raidou who heard something about the“hokage’s apprentice being tangled up in Kakashi’s sheets”, hm?”
Sakura laughed nervously. “Uh, well...uh. It’s only been like… A little over a week?” She offered weakly.
Tsunade raised an unimpressed eyebrow. “A week since it was official or a week since it started.?”
“Uh.” Sakura tried to find the words to explain the whole situation. “Lady, how do you expect me to tell you I fell in love with Kakashi? To tell you I’ve loved him for years? I mean, would you have taken it seriously?”
“Of course we would have!” Shizune exclaimed. “Sakura, you are like her child.”
Sakura looked to the side. “Even so… I wouldn’t even admit it to myself for a long time. Not to mention, what was the point of stirring it all up, up until recent events I was sure it was one sided, and I’m more than well acquainted with unreturned feelings.”
Kakashi reached up and gently grabbed the hand that had been grasping his left shoulder. “This was supposed to be my job, Sakura…”
She squeezed it back. “There’s no way I was gonna sit back and let her pummel you, unjustly.”
Tsunade watched them for a moment, knowing just how sincerely Sakura meant that, even though she’s more than well aware that Tsunade could still kick her ass.
“I actually wasn’t going to pummel him, however; if he ever causes you the kind of pain that breaks your heart, I will be the first to inflict pain he’ll never forget, and then heal him so he’s still on my roster as a shinobi.”
“And… What about our team?” Sakura glanced back towards her surrogate mother.
“I am in charge of  the current team rosters, and you’ve unknowingly had mutual feelings for each other and still worked as a team just fine for at least a year now from my understanding, I don’t see any real reason to disband the squad.” She smiled. “Besides, I don’t feel like having Naruto in here screaming at me for disbanding his team after he finally got one of you to reach out to the other.”
Sakura ran to Tsunade and hugged her tightly. “Thank you so much.”
Tsunade grinned slightly at the show of affection towards her and wrapped an arm around her. “I just want to see you happy. If you would have told me sooner, this could have all been avoided.” She sighed before taking a step back out of the embrace. “You do realize, you’re like, middle aged in terms of shinobi life spans right?”
Sakura gave her an odd look. “I’m 20… That’s hardly middle aged.”
Shizune smiled. “So much optimism for someone who has already almost died during her time as a ninja many times. Some ninja aren’t so lucky as you to make it that far, Sakura.”
Sakura thought for a moment. Remembering Ino talking about a similar philosophy. “So, does this mean you’re not going to castrate my boyfriend?”
Kakashi shivered at the thought. “Hey, don’t go giving her ideas for if she changes her mind now!”
“Oh, so he’s your boyfriend now, huh?”
Sakura stiffened at the sound of a certain purple clad blonde’s voice.
Kakashi snickered softly. “Didn’t I tell you that your little not-so-made up rumour would be cleared up in due time?”
“Sakura, you didn’t even tell Ino?” Tsunade gasped, shocked.
“Ohhh, she tried not to.” She giggled. “But she’s far too obvious for it to have been believable. Asuma and I set a trap, granted it was before they had actually been together the plan had been made.”
“Since when was Asuma planning to try and get me with my teammate.” Kakashi raised an eyebrow at the blue eyed girl in the room.
“Since you made it more than clear you didn’t like other guys flirting with her.” Ino smirked and crossed her arms.
“Ah, so you know the whole story then.” Sakura mused.
Ino huffed. “Uh, no I don’t. I know what Asuma-sensei knows, which was that he took you home.”
Tsunade laughed at the red stain on Sakura’s cheeks. “It would appear that you are terribly obvious to those who were paying closer attention, Sakura.”
Sakura smiled and glanced back at Kakashi, seeing him watching her with such a loving expression in his eyes, even if she couldn’t see the full expression with his mask covering his face at this moment.
Ino watched them and just smiled happily for her friend.
“Okay, now get out of my office. I have work to do, you know.” Tsunade threw her hands up and made shoo-ing motions with her hands.
Sakura noted the sake careen on her master’s desk and sighed softly. She walked over and picked it up. “Okay, but it had better be work that doesn’t involve sake.” She looked at Tsunade sadly, thinking of more she wanted to say, debating if it was the right time.
“She’s right, Baa-chan.” Naruto spoke somberly, coming into the room. “Pervy-sage wouldn’t have wanted this…”
Kakashi assumed he had come back to make sure Tsunade hadn’t pulverized him but now the conversation was taking a turn he wasn’t expecting.
Shizune set a hand on Tsunade’s shoulder, as she was trying to fight the tears. No one had dared to bring him up, nor her drinking issue worsening, until now. She hated to see her pain.
“I know…” Tsunade grit past her teeth, choking down the sob. She turned to look at Sakura from the side, her body still facing her desk. “Don’t ever give up on love. And don’t you dare ever let it slip right through your fingers.” She gulped and faced her desk. “Now, all of you, out.”
They all quickly shuffled out of the office. Sakura closed the door softly behind her, before glancing at Shizune and handing her the sake careen.
It was almost unspoken knowledge that Tsunade loves Jiraiya. She never once said it, but everyone suspected it. And they knew he had loved her. All you had to do was look at the Icha Icha novels, and anyone who knew the Fifth, also knew that the main character was clearly made with her in his thoughts.
“That’s the closest she’s ever come to even alluding to being in love with him…” Shizune said softly.
Sakura nodded before reaching for Kakashi, intent on never leaving him. He found her hand, as he performed the signs for his transportation jutsu with his opposite hand. They appeared back at his apartment in seconds and he pinned her to the bed.
That was over and he was eager to make it clear to Sakura just how much he loved her, again. After the emotional torment of that conversation, he needed some kind of release. He didn’t regret it, but that didn’t mean it was easy or desirable.
“I hope you know that no one else has ever been worth ripping myself apart in front of not just one, but now three people in an effort to prove how I love you, no matter how hard I tried not to.” He whispered in her ear before nipping it harshly.
She murmured softly as he pinned her to the bed, and whined as he nipped her ear. She nodded, trying to shift her wrists within his palm that had them pinned to the mattress. “K-Kakashi…”
“I think we have something to finish from earlier, if my memory serves correctly.” He smirked before placing hot kisses against her neck.
She hummed as she wrapped her legs around his waist. “Mm, I believe we do.” She pressed herself into him. “Now, if you would let me go so we could get to that.” She tilted her head back as he bit down on her neck and began to suck, causing shivers to run through her body. She whimpered softly, arching her back off the mattress. “Please…”
He pulled away from her neck and sat up slightly and smirked down at her. “And if I don’t?” He tightened his grip on her wrists. “Are you gonna use your chakra, hm? Beat me into next week?”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “If you keep me from touching you for your own pleasure, I have other ways I could get my pay back, trust me.” She huffed.
“Oh, yeah?” He hummed softly, before deciding that might be for another time. “Maybe I’ll be daring enough to find out later.” He let her wrists go, before sliding her shirt off and kissing the valley between her breasts. “You didn’t put your wrappings back on?” He mumbled against her skin appreciatively before kissing up the side of her left breast and twirling his tongue around her hardening nipple.
Sakura moaned, still questioning how he made her feel so much pleasure with such little effort. “N-No…” She stammered.
He smirked before pulling away from her breast with an audible pop. He slid his hand down her body and delved his fingers past the hem of her shorts and past her lace panties. He rubbed her clit with two fingers in fast circles. She cried out in pleasure almost instantly.
He could feel how wet she already was and made him twitch against his own clothing. “So wet for me, already?” He chuckled before slipping a finger into her entrance, sliding it against her slickness with ease.
“K-Kakashi…” She moaned and squeezed her eyes shut, her hips bucking into his touch.
Every single time they had made love, he had catered to her every request and made sure she felt amazing. But he hasn't made any requests of his own. She wasn’t stupid and heard Ino talk about sex enough to know what men liked, and even little tips on how to make it feel extra good. “L-Let me pleasure you for once…”
“Hm…?” He looked down at her curiously. “Pleasuring you is pleasurable.”
She sat up, and slid her hand into his pants and past his boxers. She placed a kiss on his shoulder as she gripped his member and began to slide her hand up and down his length slowly. “But I want to please you, myself.” She whispered into his ear.
His breath hitched as soon as her hand began to move, before he groaned slightly. “S-Sakura…” He shut his eyes tight as she kept sliding her hand against him, gaining a little more confidence in her motions. He placed gentle kisses on her cheek before slowly pressing his hips down into her motions.
Sakura smirked and pushed him off her onto the bed, before getting her knees between his legs. She bit her lip as she looked up at him, with a dirty trick in her mind. “Yes, Sensei..?” She replied in a sultry tone.
His eyes went wide as he sat back to stare back at her as she shifted her weight more comfortably on her knees. He couldn’t quite pinpoint how he felt about that as she bit her lip and looked up at him from the floor, looking sexier than any other woman ever had before him on her knees. Even if it was sexy, he knew his carpet was less than inviting and pleasurable for her in it’s worn out state. He grabbed a pillow and playfully smacked her with it. “Here, use that to put it under your knees.” He said softly before lifting her chin and catching her eyes with his. “You don’t have to do this, you know…” He rubbed his thumb across her cheek.
She met his eyes, and her heart swelled at the love in them. She shifted and placed the pillow below her knees, before tugging his pants off and smiling. “I know.” She gripped his member once more, sliding her hand up and down a little faster this time. “But I want to.”
She began to rotate her wrist as she slid her fingers across his length, rubbing her free hand across his inner thigh and placing soft kisses on the exposed skin.
Kakashi leaned back on his elbows and watched her carefully, a moan escaping his lips as soon her lips met the skin of his thigh. He wasn’t sure how far she exactly planned to go, but he was going to welcome every bit of distance she decided she wanted to take. She looked rather hot in his opinion, being shirtless and pumping his length with a surprising amount of confidence.
She waited until his eyes slipped closed before she decided to flick her tongue over the tip, swirling around it the way she remembered Ino describing one time. Her cheeks tinted pink as she repeated the actions, making a mental note to thank Ino for the description she had been so reluctant to hear in the past.
Kakashi's eyes shot back open and he threw his head back with a loud moan as soon as he felt her tongue swipe across the tip of his manhood. His hand moved to grip her hair lightly. “Fuck, Sakura…”
“Mmm, you taste salty, Sensei…” She commented in an alluring tone. She slowly took him into her mouth then and sucked softly on only the very tip.
He moaned and gripped her hair tighter. “Damnit, I hate and love that you’re calling me that…” He had no idea where she got off to think to call him that. Some women had done it before after seeing the picture of his team and it had been a turn on, a sense of dominance, but it was different when it was actually his former student saying it now. The same feeling of dominance and submissiveness being a turn on, but also a little weird and unsettling when she had actually been his student once.
She snickered, before coming off him with an audible pop. “I remembered a scene from Icha Icha, and guessed you just might like it.” She licked her lips and took him back into her mouth, taking more of him between her lips, and bobbing her head a little bit.
Kakashi bit his lip and gently guided her up and down his length. “I had no idea that you…” He cut off the sentence as he moaned again at the feeling of her sucking. “Fuck, how are you so good at this already.” He panted.
She took more of him in her mouth, trying to keep the back of her throat open. She wrapped her hand around his base and began to pump the remaining part of his length in time with bobbing her head. The groan she heard from her lover as well the tightening grip in her hair confirmed that she was doing rather well. She moved her tongue around the muscle as she slid her lips along his shaft.
“Sakura…” He let himself fall completely back into the mattress, his breathing was ragged. He couldn’t believe she was doing this, he couldn’t have even imagined asking her to do this so soon. His eyes fluttered close as she picked up her pace. He felt her free hand resting beside his thigh on the bed, and he reached for it, grasping her fingers between his tightly.
She squeezed his hand back. Her jaw was starting to ache a bit, and she was beginning to realize why women have complained about this very action. She didn’t mind it much as she continued to suck and lick at his member, loving the moans that slipped freely from his mouth.
Suddenly the hand that had been guiding her with the tight grip in pink locks pulled her away as he sat back up and looked down at her, some his precum dripping down the side of her mouth.
“If you don’t stop, I’m going to lose it.” He breathed out. Sakura licked her lips before smirking and standing, hooking her fingers at the waistband of her shorts.
“Pretty good for my first time, then?” She bit her lip and looked at him, her eyes darkened with need.
He slipped his shirt off and pulled her into his lap as her shorts hit the ground. “Amazing.” He pecked her lips and slid his hands to grip her ass. He leaned into her to press a kiss to her temple before whispering huskily in her ear.“Now since you’re so hell bent on pleasing me today, ride my dick just as good as you just sucked it.”
Sakura’s face flamed red at his dirty phrasing, but nodded. “As you say, Sensei.” She braced herself on his shoulders, before slamming herself down onto him.
They both moaned at the contact, Kakashi’s grip on her ass tightening. “Again.” He commanded. She repeated her movements, and he thrust up into her with perfect timing this time.
“Kakashi!” She cried out, gripping his shoulders with immense strength.
He moved to grip her hips and guided her movement, slamming her down onto him once again. “What did you call me earlier, Sakura?” He spoke low in her ear. He had come to the conclusion he liked it when she said it, as dirty it was coming from her.
Sakura bit her lip, and looked into his eyes. “S-Sensei…” She moaned out.
He kissed her hard in approval and she kissed him back with the same urgency, thrusting her hips in time with his.
His mouth left hers to trail wet kisses down her neck as she dug her nails into his skin, forming new crescent marks that were scattered across his back along with various scratch marks left by her in their lovemaking.
She had always imagined Kakashi would be rough in bed, and demanding. She had been starting to think she was wrong as he had been mostly gentle until now, not doing more than having an iron grip on her hips and leaving the occasional hickey she’d heal before she went out in public. And now he was being just as demanding as she always figured he would, and it was turning her on so much.
“Sensei, you feel s-so good…” She moaned out between pants, sweat covering her body now.
He rolled over, pushing her onto the bed. “Fuck,” He panted, raising one leg over his shoulder and nipping at her calf, being able to thrust into even deeper at the new angle.
She bit her lip as pleasure wrecked through her body. “K-Kakashi, there!” She writhed on the bed, shivers running through her body from every nip on her leg. He slammed into her the same exact way again.
“God, you’re still so tight and soaking wet…” He moaned as he pulled back and slammed his hips right back into hers. “You’re sexy as fuck right now, Babe…”
Sakura could feel the heat pooling in her center as he kept talking to her. Who knew the white wolf would say such dirty things to someone as pure as herself, but she loved every word of it. Her hair was soaked with sweat now as he kept pounding into her, making her reach her peak. “S-Sensei…”
“That’s it, cum for me, Sakura.” He spoke low in her ear as he bent down, pressing her leg to stretch farther than she’d ever gotten it to before in warm ups. Her back arched off the bed as she cried out in ecstasy, her own result of such pleasure soaking Kakashi’s member. He slammed into her especially hard before biting down on her shoulder as he sunk himself to the hilt, releasing his own climax as he growled against her skin.
After a few moments of catching their breath, Kakashi moved his arm to let her leg fall back down alongside the other. He showered her face with light kisses before smiling down at her.
She slowly opened her eyes to meet his gaze and grinned. “That was phenomenal…” She breathed out between panting, still catching her breath.
Kakashi smirked before chuckling softly. “You look like an absolute goddess right now…” He brought a hand to stroke her cheek softly. “Stunning in all your sexed up glory.”
She swatted his hand away. “Oh yeah, I bet.” She couldn’t help the beaming smile that came across her lips. “You face Tsunade and she almost beats you to a pulp, and then you run right back into bed with me!” She laughed.
“Hey, every minute with you is worth whatever amount of chakra induced pain she would have ever given me.” He gave his signature eye crinkle, fully visible with a toothy smile and her heart melted. He brought a hand to smooth over her hair and move it out of her face. “I love you, and I always will.”
Sakura stared back at him before turning her face to place a quick kiss on his hand. “I love you, too.”
“I think it’s time that I take you dinner, on a proper date, my love.” He hoisted her up and walked her to the bathroom. “But first a shower is in session.”
Ino had just finished excitedly telling Choji about Sakura and Kakashi as she sat at the meeting spot, waiting for Asuma and Shikamaru to show up for a sparring session. She sat between his legs, her side leaning against his chest and her legs kicked over one of his own as she was looking up at him excitedly. “Can you believe it! I’m so happy for them!”
Choji smiled down at her as he played with the strands at the end of her ponytail. “After everything she’s been through, she deserves to be happy.”
“Kakashi too! He’s friends with the other jounin, especially Asuma and Genma, but he’s never let anyone get close after he had lost his team is what I’ve been told.”
Choji nodded. “My Dad was shocked to see he had passed Team 7 back then…” He kissed her forehead. “I guess everything happens for a reason, huh?”
Asuma had approached, raising an eyebrow at the scene before nudging Shikamaru and pointing, not quite close enough for the pair to notice their teammates just yet. “Looks like he got the girl afterall, doesn’t it?”
Shikamaru nodded. “I’ve always told him if he was just a little more confident, she would see him.” He smiled happily for his friends. “Hey, Choji, you got something to tell me?” He walked lazily towards his best friends.
Blue eyes looked towards Shikamaru and beamed. “Shika!” She stood up. “Actually, we both do!”
“It’s been such a drag watching him try to get your attention, glad to see you finally realized he loves you.” He stuffed his hands into his pockets.
She beamed as Choji kissed the top of her head, his cheeks tinting pink.
“Just don't let it make training awkward…” He scratched the back of his head.
Ino giggled mischievously before flipping her ponytail. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Asuma watched his teammates with pride, glad to see the tension between Ino and Shikamaru was gone. He was sure the genius was going to go insane if things hadn’t smoothed out soon.
“So, how is Temari?” Choji asked. “I know you just came back from ‘setting up the exams’.”
Shikamaru rolled his eyes. “Tsunade somehow had it arranged that there weren’t enough rooms set up for everyone, and of course Temari discreetly suggested I stay with her. It felt planned.” His cheeks had tinted a little pink at the mention of it.
“Oooooh, I guess that makes Team 10 fully deflowered then, huh?” Ino giggled.
Choji proceeded to turn red all the way down to his neck and Shikamaru sighed.
“Okay, now to start training.” Asuma took a fighting stance. “That’s enough talking and catching up, now all three of you versus me. Let’s see how your teamwork skills have survived the inner drama.”
Ino huffed and crossed her arms. “No inner drama would have ruined this formation.” She smirked as she took the lead in attacking Asuma first.
Naruto had leaped across rooftops from the hokage tower, back towards the gates. He landed on the edge, and looked out into the woods. He sighed softly.
“Wherever you are, Sasuke, she’s moved on. Odd how she is attracted to the ones that are traumatized. Is it because she’s medic? Is there some kind of pull in the universe?” Naruto shook his head. “No matter, at least Kakashi was willing to try…”
He stared out into the woods. “We will still find you and we will bring you home one day.”
He left down to the ground and walked back to his apartment where he knew Hinata was waiting for him. He weaved through the streets deep in thought. He was shocked to see that Granny Tsunade hadn’t noticed the bond between Sakura and Kakashi, and that she had been so angry by it at first. But from what he could tell, the same rumours that made it to her were much like what he had heard initially. She had gone home with Kakashi twice. The people of this village are so nosy, getting into people business when it doesn’t concern them. He leapt up to the balcony his apartment door was located on and entered his home.
Hinata was sitting on the couch, eating a bowl of his cup ramen as he walked into the living room. The site made him smile softly. “Hey, Hina…” He sat down next to her and she snuggled into his side.
“Naruto…” She smiled warmly. “Are you okay..?”
He nodded softly. “I’m just thinking about the future. As hokage, Tsunade was really in a tough spot as to how she reacted to Kakashi and Sakura’s relationship. I wonder if I’ll ever be in that position one day. If you don’t know the people personally, how do you make the right decision?”
Hinata studied him for a moment. “Did she disband your squad?”
Naruto took a deep intake of breath and shook his head. “No, but it had come up…”
“Well, that’s good!” She pecked his cheek. “Then why are you worried still? It’s not common for a former sensei and his student to fall in love, so I don’t think you’d have to make that decision.”
He nodded softly. “Right, but what about when team members fall for each other? Should they be separated into different squads?”
She felt his arm squeeze her slightly as he tucked her head under his chin. “I’m not sure. I don’t think it would really make a difference, do you?”
“It’s been said Obito had loved Rin, and chosen saving her over the mission they were on…” He smiled sadly. “Do you think Kakashi would make that choice with Sakura now? Or that he would still focus solely on the mission?”
Hinata shook her head. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Some of us would save regular comrades over completing a mission. And I think Kakashi’s stress for team bonding at the beginning shows his regret in the decisions he had made in the past.” She leaned her head against his chest. “I don’t think Kakashi would ever let anything happen to any of his friends, and especially not Sakura. Wasn’t that his fear, to get close to her and then have to deal with the pain of losing her?”
Naruto nodded softly. “You’re right…”
Hinata hummed softly, finishing her ramen. She thought more on the subject, remembering Kurenai saying that there should never be any regret in saving someone you care about. Hinata thought of times when she had been on missions and Kiba and Shino saved her when she was still weak. Her fight with Neji at the chunin exams, and how Naruto had been in such an outrage. When she had been attacked by Pain.
“If she would have disbanded the team, it still would have been worth getting them together and seeing them as happy as they are. It may be easier to see in Sakura, but it is with Kakashi too. When I found them in his apartment, the whole world seemed to be right, seeing them in each other’s arms. His mask was off from kissing her, and he looked so happy, smiling right at her….” Naruto smiled down at her.
“I’m sure they will be together for a long time.”
Naruto took the cup ramen from her hands and set it on his desk. “I hope we are too, Hinata…” He placed a soft peck on her lips, resting his hands on her hips.
She blushed but smiled warmly at him. “Me too, Naruto…” She stood up from the couch.
He grinned like an idiot before picking her up bridal style and carrying her to his room. “Let me show you just how much I love you, Hina…” He kissed her softly, setting her on his bed.
The Hyuuga girl became flustered but returned his kiss, bringing her hands to cup his face. “O-Okay, Naruto…”
Ino had drug Sakura back out to the bar that night. “Come on, you know Kakashi is waiting!”
“I don’t think this is what he meant by taking me on a proper date.” The pinkette grumbled to her best friend.
Ino shrugged. “It was Asuma’s idea for everyone to meet up at the Shuriken tonight.”
Sakura smiled. “You know, it isn’t any rumour that he found us. It was kind of funny actually.” She giggled. “He was walking into Kakashi’s room, saying ‘that Haruno girl has eyes for you’ just as he set his sights on us. He said something about Kurenai saying Kakashi needing a nudge.”
“Who knew that Asuma-sensei would have been such a matchmaker.” Ino said flippantly.
Sakura rolled her eyes. “Naruto was more the matchmaker here. Kakashi and I would have probably continued to pretend the night at the bar never happened if Naruto hadn’t overheard me crying and talked to us, and convinced me to tell him how I felt.”
Ino shrugged. “You never know.”
They rounded the corner of the bar towards the rest of their jounin colleagues, and Sakura found herself being pulled into Kakashi’s arms once again. He held her snug to his from, his fingers rubbing her hip once again.
“Look at that, Hatake has his little pinkette again.” Anko antagonized.
“Poor Anko, he’s off the market for you now.” Genma said sarcastically.
Sakura rolled her eyes at Genma’s antics. “As if he was on the market in the first place.”
“She’s got a point there.” The senbon user shrugged.
“So, Sakura, how’s the sex god for you? I’m sure you’ve heard by now that the very few nights he’s had have left women more than impressed. Did he pluck you of your innocence, hm?” Anko made a suggestive look towards the younger kunoichi.
Ino snickered as Sakura turned crimson and hid her face in Kakashi’s shoulder.
The blonde sat next to Asuma, a spot still open next to her for Choji. Their sensei turned in her direction. “He’ll be here soon, he’s ordering wings.”
Ino smiled softly as she crossed her legs. “So, tell me, how red did Sakura turn last time she was here?” The blonde smirked as she looked in her friend’s direction.
Genma smirked. “Oh, she was cherry red. And about just as cozy, the nervous aura about her is gone though.” His senbon bounced along with his speech.
Kakashi shrugged and kissed the top of her head.
“Oh, Kakashi, it’s so amazing to see you with the blessing of a youthful soul!” Guy gushed. “How romantic of a tale to tell one day! A jaded old ninja such as yourself falling for the cherry blossom of hope that is Sakura!” He brought a hand to chest, tears pricking in the corners of his eyes as he smiled. “Oh, if only Lee would be able to accept this loss of such a beautiful flower easily.”
Sakura and Kakashi stared at Guy at his dramatic display, both unsure of how to respond.
“I’m not that old.” Kakashi said plainly before shaking his head.
Ino raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know, 34 is pushing it don’t you think?”
“Hey!” Asuma chided, having been in his late forties now. “Kakashi is younger than me, you can’t go calling him old, because I damn sure ain’t old yet!”
Ino was giggling now. “Asuma-sensei you’re like 48! That’s almost 50.”
“So what’s with blonde here, hm? Wanna come sit here with me?” The senbon user winked at Ino.
Asuma, forgetting completely about the age argument now, sent a subtle glare in his direction. “Genma, seriously?”
“Not a chance.” Ino crossed her arms. “I’m here with Choji.”
“Damn, no round two then, eh?” He teased.
Ino’s eye twitched slightly as she tinged pink.
“That’s exactly what she’s saying.” Choji said smoothly as he sat down next to Ino and handed her some fancy drink with an umbrella in it before he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
“Wait just a minute, since when did you have a fling with Genma!” Sakura whipped her head to face Ino.
Ino laughed nervously. “We will not be discussing that.”
“No, no we will not.” Asuma confirmed. “I don’t wanna be reminded.”
Choji laughed at their sensei’s clear dismay at the thought of his student being with one of his friends. He was well secure in knowing Ino would be faithful to him and wasn’t even slightly bothered. “Oh come on, Asuma sensei. How’s it any different than Kakashi and Sakura?” He grinned.
Ino tensed a bit at the comparison. It wasn’t even close. She had been in a henge, 16, and stupid. Not 20 and in love. She didn’t want to talk about it.
Genma was now regretting his teasing that had been meant as a joke as he noticed how tense Ino had gotten. “Actually, it was… Definitely different. I was just trying to kid around a little bit. Ino, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
Kakashi was slowly recalling the incident, remembering having to hold Asuma back from beating Genma to a pulp after he had mentioned he may have accidentally taken the young girl’s virginity.
“I’m clearly missing something here.” Sakura crossed her arms, feeling out of the loop.
Ino huffed before glancing at Sakura. “Remember how you used to give advice about going out in henges when we were younger…”
Sakura narrowed her eyes. “Oh, you mean the thing I said was irresponsible and even a little scary?”
Ino nodded and then glanced at Genma. “My virginity.”
Sakura's eyes widened. “But that was when we were…” Kakashi shook his head.
“Let’s not mention that last part, we all know.”
Kurenai giggled and smoothed her hand over Asuma’s arm. “It’s still kind of touchy for Asuma, he views his team as his kids…”
“I barely avoided that ass whipping, and really I have Kakashi to thank for coming to my defense.” Genma shrugged.
“You deserve one for bringing it back up in the first place.” Ino huffed and crossed her legs.
“Hmm, you never told me who it was that night.” Sakura snickered slightly. She wouldn’t voice it, but she remembered the very night Ino had come over to tell her all about that. Sakura had been embarrassed to hear about it. Ino had been slightly ashamed but also exclaimed that it had been amazing. She had a crush on Genma back then and it had been the sole purpose of going out in the henge in the first place, but she never knew it had actually been him Ino had bedded with that night. Now it just seemed odd with Choji here with Ino, her no longer looking for a one night fling. She watched her with Choji now, her form fitting right into his side much like she did with Kakashi. “I’ve got a killer right hook if it’s ever necessary.”
“Oh yeah, said the damsel in distress that came rushing over here about a month ago from an insistent creep.” Genma drawled out.
“H-Hey, I can’t go chakra punching civilians!”
“Or maybe she just knew Kakashi would come to her rescue.” Anko drawled.
“I didn’t even know he was here until I came around the corner!” Sakura pouted.
Kakashi just chuckled and brought his hand up to her face to brush hair out of her eyes. “Regardless, if he had laid a finger on you that night, I wouldn’t have given a damn about him being a civilian. Neither should you when you’re about to be assaulted. Granted you could barely walk 10 minutes later, your chakra control was probably already affected by then.”
“For being around Tsunade so much, you’d think she would handle her liquor better…” Kurenai mused.
Sakura huffed indignantly. “No thanks…”
Kakashi discreetly kissed her cheek, before whispering in her ear. “Shame, you were an awful cute drunk.”
Despite her embarrassment, Sakura smiled, glad to have a night out with friends, and to be with someone herself instead of third wheeling with Ino.
“So, how is that root kid working out on team 7?”
“Oh, Sai? Naruto and him get along great now.” Sakura giggled. “But he is still amused by antagonizing Naruto from time to time.”
“It can be quite amusing sometimes.” Kakashi concurred.
They spent the rest of the night talking and drinking, getting to know Sakura, Ino, and Choji more. She laughed and blushed and answered most of their questions, but started to feel like she was being watched. She scanned the room around her multiple times throughout the night, not able to spot any suspicious looking people. She vaguely whispered to Kakashi and his arm tightened around her protectively.
“You know, one day, this corner will be filled with you three and your friends. And it’ll just be old Kakashi at Sakura’s side, all wrinkly eyed!” Guy proclaimed.
Anko looked at Guy with a dead stare. “You do realize besides Asuma, we’re all withing four years of each other, right Guy?”
Sakura, not really hearing the current conversation, noticed Ino scanning the room as well, a frown on her face. “Does anyone else just feel… Like someone is watching?” The blonde asked softly, timidly.
Sakura nodded. “It’s like…” She frowned as she scanned the room for the fiftieth time that night. “It’s just an unsettling feeling like there’s some lurker or something.”
Anko and Kurenai shook their heads before their eyes narrowed. “I don’t feel watched.” Kurenai said slowly.
Asuma frowned. “Maybe we should call it night.”
Kakashi nodded and stood up, keeping an arm around Sakura. “Choji, you shouldn’t leave Ino alone tonight…”
The younger male just nodded, worried about why the two girls felt some presence that no one else seemed to pick up on. It wasn’t like he hadn’t spent a couple nights at her house already.
Everyone left in groups, keeping an eye out for anything or anyone unusual in the village.
Sakura went back to his house. She changed into one of his shirts again and laid in his bed. He soon followed after having stripped down to his pants. He laid behind her and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close and tight to him. She still felt watched as she laid in Kakashi’s arms.
“Something isn’t right…” She mumbled softly, turning around and burying her face into the crook of his neck.
“You’re safe with me, don’t worry.” He just held her tight. “Just get some sleep, I won’t let anything happen to you, you know that.” He kissed the top of her head before he closed his eyes, even though he could already tell he wouldn’t be sleeping much if at all.

unfaithful
Summary: Sakura is surprised to see Sasuke is the senior associate of the firm she is supposed to start working for. All of her feelings start to come back 10 years after he abandoned her. Sasuke finds out somethings are truly never behind you, and when he starts falling back in love with her, his past comes to hunt him. Her biggest issue? He is already married
Sasusaku Fanfic AU Lawyers. M
Chap 3
Sasuke was angry. Angry at Naruto for putting him down like that in front of their whole firm, for being forced to work with his mistress! For accommodating her in the office right across from his, where he couldn't help but to stare at her all throughout the day; He was also angry at himself for choosing glass panels when decorating the firm, making said visibility possible, and perhaps at his own inability (or reluctance) to close his curtains to stop it.
He was exhausted, he barely had any sleep the night before. Her teary face came to him every time he attempted to close his eyes, saying please don't leave over and over. Images of the nights they spent together in their youth, fumbling around each other, full of inexperience and desire came to him, causing him bodily reactions he didn't really want to have, and making the couch where he slept incredibly uncomfortable. Other images started to fill his mind after, images of his friend fisting a handful of pink locks from behind while be grunted against her. It was nauseating really.
He remembered Sakura as a pure little thing, who didn't even dare to make excuses to her parents to be able to spend more time with her boyfriend because it was dishonest, and liars were the worst kind of people. And now there she was, having an affair, ruining a marriage between two of the best people Sasuke had ever met.
And really what other explanation could there be for all the special treatment? Naruto was that kind of person, he knew. Overly friendly and generous, but he'd never seen him been so extremely affectionate with anyone other than his wife.
He would have to go speak to her soon enough, if there were going to be working on the case. It was almost 5pm and there she was seated on top of her desk, her short dressed rising even higher showing up her creamy long legs, gossiping away with Yamanaka as she had done the entire day. Sasuke decided he couldn't waste more time in other people's indiscretions, he had work to do, so he walked to her office, briefcase in hand and said "Sakura with me now, Yamanaka I need the prosecutors list of witness for the case before you leave for the day" and continued walking toward the elevator without looking back to see if she'd followed.
Sakura grabbed her purse and hurried to him. "Where are we going, boss?" She asked squeezing in between the closing elevator doors he hadn't bothered to hold for her.
"Coffee" he answered coldly.
Once the doors closed, she leaned her back against the wall, crossing her arms in front of her chest and said "Listen Sasuke... I ... I don't know if you remember, but... back in high school I was..."
"Why wouldn't I remember?" He interrupted. Of course, anyone would be perfectly able to remember their teenage sweetheart of 4 years, even if it was a whole decade later, barring an aneurysm or something.
"I just... thought... you didn't seem to recognize..."
"Do you always stutter this much now? It's annoying" Sasuke said rudely. Looking to his phone to avoid looking at what he knew would be a blushed, indignant, Sakura. He stepped outside right as the doors opened.
Instead of taking a place in line to order, Sasuke sat down at a table, pulling out documents from his briefcase and organizing them into piles. I thought we came for coffee... Sakura thought, standing in front of him, fidgeting with her bag.
"I'm going to get a latte; would you like anything?" She asked.
The raven-haired man didn't even look up as he said. "Coffee, black"
Okay Mr Arrogant. She thought, dragging herself to the task on hand.
Sakura returned quickly with two coffee cups, and a cupcake in a small paper bag, which for lack additional hands, she had to carry with her teeth.
The table was completely covered in piles of documents by then, no space so that she could set down the cups.
Ignoring her predicament, he started. "Court starts tomorrow at 8am sharp, be there early, judge Hatake is presiding, he has a hatred for unpunctuality that rivals my own, so don't be trying to pull things like this morning" which was a lie, of course, judge Hatake was notorious for his constant tardiness.
And just how did he know I was late? She thought. He wasn't there was he? The small paper bag was starting to slip past her teeth by then, still not able to put the cups down.
"I need 4 chronologically organized sets of copies of every document in this table, bound in different folders with cover sheets" He could've easily have asked his assistant to do the work, maybe if he'd been able to concentrate at all that day he would have, but he was forced to take a second chair and he wasn't going to give her an important task just because she was hooking up with his friend. If anything, he'd do the opposite. Give her the most menial task he can think of, to keep her occupied enough to stay out of his case.
She noodled quickly in response, forgetting for a second about the bag she was biting down on. It only took that one second, the cupcake bag slipped past her lips, she instinctively tried to stop, swinging her entire arm to the side to prevent it from hitting the table, she didn't want the original documents covered in frosting, but of course, her hand was already occupied, the sudden movement causing the cup to spill piping hot coffee right on Sasuke's chest.
"What the F... arrrg " he gritted his teeth as the scalding liquid hurt like hell. He stood up quickly trying to separate his drenched shirt from making contact with his skin.
"I'm so sorry Sasuke-kun!" Pulling out a handkerchief from her purse and pressing it to his chest and stomach, trying to at least soak up some of the offending liquid. "I was just trying to..."
He glared at her, taking the handkerchief from her hand abruptly. "Save it" Sasuke said between his gritted teeth. He grabbed his suitcase and walked away, leaving a mortified Sakura behind.
He didn't return. After an hour passed it became evident, he wasn't coming back, so she went back to offices to complete the work he had ordered her to do. The lights were out and the offices completely empty. Sakura couldn't help but to cuss at herself internally for what a terrible first day she just had.
X
Sasuke walked into his apartment to his wife and Suigetsu, one of the paralegals of the office, sharing a drink on the kitchen table. A common event at the residence.
"Hey Sasuke, looking terrible today, what happened to ya?" Said the white-haired man, grinning like an idiot at the sight of the usually immaculate Sasuke, stained in coffee.
"Spilled coffee" he offered no more explanations in return. He simply walked into the bedroom grabbed a fresh shirt and went toward his home office.
He paid no attention to his wife, who did not acknowledge his entry either. She was dress in boxers and a thin white tank top, and Suigetsu thought that any other man would be angered at the scene of his wife scantily dressed in such company, no matter what the state of the relationship.
He couldn't even begin to feel guilty for ogling at his friends wife.
It should be pointed out that Karin was an attractive woman, red fiery hair, voluptuous, he noted how thin the material of her shirt was, leaving nothing to the imagination. It was no secret Suigetsu had a thing for her, and the fact that she only had eyes for Sasuke, at least in the past, only made him want her more.
Karin said nothing as she prepared some tea and offered Suigetsu a cup with a gentle smile on her face. He knew her very well, from before and after Sasuke, and gentle smiles where not exactly Karin's thing. And from her attitude towards him, the way she carried herself, and the blankets and pillows in the couch inside Sasuke's office, he determined with certainty that Karin hadn't had sex in a very long time. That thought definitely made him smile.
X
Sasuke walked confidently inside court room number 10, exactly 30 minutes before the scheduled trial, which meant he should still have about an hour before Judge Kakashi deigned to show up, he was expecting to find it empty. He almost twisted his neck when a light shade of pink caught his eye.
She was seated on what was supposed to be his chair, leaned back as fair as the chair would go with her legs rested on the table. She smiled enthusiastically at him upon seeing him, said. "Morning boss" and handed him a cup.
"I'm not your boss" he said taking the offered cup with distrust and standing next her and waiting for her to move.
"Sure... listen Sasuke, I'm sorry about yesterday" she said lowering her legs at the same time and moving to the adjacent chair.
"Hn" he sat next to her. "Where are folders I requested"
"Here" Sakura answered, handing him one folder instead of the four he'd requested. "I did you one better and figured you were asking for them to submit to the plaintiff, the judge and records, so I sent them this morning, this is your copy, please note the index and numbered pages I created for accessibility"
"Hn... how obsequious of you" He answered unimpressed.
Sakura knew what he was trying to pull. She figured he would try to give her tasks, that one would consider to be beneath her, until she decided to give up being second chair to his case. He wasn't happy about her presence, and made no secret of it at the meeting, and she wasn't exactly thrilled to be working with him. But she'd be damned if she walked away from a case because of a man.
"Also... I was studying up on your strategy, and I think it's very good, but I think we should focus I but more on the ..."
He didn't allow her to finish. "I don't need advice from beginners"
Jerk. She thought but she held her tongue. She didn't know how long Sasuke had been working on this case, but he must know what he is doing, he was always the most competent person she knew.
The trail started, and Sasuke seemed to be dominating, exuding confidence as he walked in front of the jury. Everything about him screamed I know what I'm doing. From his exemplary posture, to his perfectly tailored dark suit, to his eloquence in questioning the witness. He ended his questioning and gave a little smile to the jury, half of which was already smitten with the handsome raven-haired attorney.
Taking full advantage of his looks huh. He never used to do that when younger, he always seemed to consider the attention his looks attracted unwanted and annoying. I guess whatever helps you win the case, right?
Even the plaintiff's attorney seemed to be infatuated with the dark-haired man, she blushed when he looked at her on the way back to his seat.
"No more questions for this witness your honor" Sasuke said as he sat down. Fully confident that his line of questioning went exactly on the direction he planned for the case.
"Ammm actually I have a couple of questions for the witness, if I may..." Sakura announced for the judge.
"You May... Miss?" Judge Hakate said, eying the pinkette attorney, who stood up nervously.
Sasuke's eyes were wide. He looked at her menacingly and said. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" His voice almost a whisper, his arm moved to stop her.
"Trust me okay?" Sakura answered to him.
"No!" he whispered. But she roughly shook off his hand that had grabbed her by her blazer. And then to the judge, "Haruno Sakura, your honor"
Sasuke was pissed, she looked back at him after walking passed him and towards the podium, his eyes almost had a tint of red, he was so angry.
"Doctor... please explain one more time, why is it that Doctor Senju's procedure to restart the patient's heart once it had stopped is out of the norm" Sakura asked, addressing the Hospital Board director that Sasuke had questioned mere seconds before.
"Well the standard procedure is to use a defibrillator, continuing CPR and oxygen intubation, until either the patient is either stable or irreversible cessation of the heartbeat is determined. Senju ceased CPR after less than 2 minutes, and proceeded use a scalpel to open the patient's chest cavity, inserting her entire hand, and pumped the patient's heart by hand"
The jury and the crowd gasped at his crude explanation.
"But it saved the patient's life did it not?"
Sakura said, eyeing the plaintiff seated next to her attorney.
"Technically yes, but it's a highly risky technique, less than 5% survival rate, and in this case unnecessary, as I covered at length with your colleague just a few seconds ago, I think it was Tsunade's ego wanting to prove herself a better doctor"
"Yes, thank you I heard" She gave him a kind smile, and looked over to Sasuke, who was still scowling at her. Obviously working as a team was something new to him.
"So, let's go back to the beginning, Ms. Terumi wanted the surgery to enhance her breasts, something went wrong with the anesthesia, and she entered into cardiac arrest" Sakura said addressing the jury in a light tone, and then turned to the witness one more time. "Of course, any procedure that requires general anesthesia comes with its risks, it's common knowledge and disclosed in advance with the patient before the surgery. And rather than let her patient, and may I say friend, die, Doctor Tsunade determined it would be best to save her life even if it left Ms. Tekumi with an unsightly scar, I mean, if this is not a frivolous lawsuit I don't know what is, wouldn't you agree doctor?"
Sasuke was impressed, even if he tried to push the thought to the back of his head, she had deviated from his strategy, taken over his case! but the regality to which she seemed to be handling the questioning was... hot.
"I would not. Doctor Senju knew the proper procedures and chose to ignore them! She knew how important her appearance was to Mis Terumi! As an underwear model, the scar could seriously hinder her career, she derailed her whole life, and for what, for her ego or perhaps envy?" The expert witness said, he was vicious, he knew just how to surprise the jury with scandalous accusations.
"Doctor do you know why doctors' advice not to use illicit drugs before a surgery, in fact they require that a patient needs to been "clean" for a least 6 months before preparing for any surgery? of course you do, but I'm going to tell our jury, the risk, in this case for cocaine abuse and undergoing general anesthesia is that it can cause tissue compression, compartment syndrome, and neuropraxia. Did Ms. Terumi mentioned that she used to have a big cocaine problem?"
"Well... it was not... in her medical record" the doctor was stuttering now.
"Well it is here, medical record from last year, hospitalization due to cocaine overdose. Of course, she didn't disclose that to our Doctor Senju, but is it unreasonable to think she would still be using and that Doctor Senju noticed the side effects of the drug abuse after going under anesthesia? And that with the risk of using a defibrillator and causing pulmonary and cardiac necrosis, she decided the best course of action was to take an unorthodox but less damaging approach?"
"I... would need to see.."
"So, isn't it a bit narcissistic of your part to project your egomaniac tendencies to a kind doctor who was trying to do her best to save her friend!?"
"Aaam objection... she is badgering the witness..." the opposite attorney interfered, trying to save a bit of face in a case she knew she'd already lost.
"I'll allow it... Answer the question doctor"
"Ahem... perhaps"
"Thank you, nothing further your honor" Sakura said, walking back to her seat practically bouncing with adrenaline. It almost didn't matter that Sasuke was still giving her his look of doom. Because from where she was seated Tsunade was giving her a proud-knowingly smirk, and Judge Kakashi was smiling at her. She was so giddy.
"The court will call for the evidence of Ms. Terumi hospitalization for drug overdose, and perhaps even a drug test to confirm accusations. We will reconvene tomorrow 9am, for closing statements and delivering of verdict if the testing is ready by then, meeting adjourned" Said Judge Kakashi, taking a stand to leave, but not before looking over his shoulder to the attractive pink haired attorney, and gave her a little smile. It wasn't very often Hatake Kakashi was surprised.
Sakura saw him, and in return offered him, what she knew to be the most dashing smile at her disposal.
Moving up to a judge I see. Sasuke thought.
Tsunade Senju, took a stand to shake Sakura's hand. "That was very impressive. I don't remember that information being on the packet I presented to your firm"
"Hehe thank you" Said Sakura, shaking her hand enthusiastically, even before college, she had heard how legendary Doctor Senju was, she deserved the best defense possible.
"I recognize your type anywhere Miss Haruno." Said the blonde woman, squinting to her as if trying to see her more clearly. "I'll be getting in touch with you, maybe we can get a drink something"
x
To say that Sasuke was annoyed would be underestimating the ordeal. He was used to getting the congratulating elations, not having to share into the spotlight with anyone else. He took special notice in the looks judge Hatake gave the tiny pink haired girl. It literally made him groan. Why am I so worked up about this whole thing? So, what if she was having an affair? Or two? What was it about that, that makes me so... angry? He thought.
With everyone waking out of the court room, he took his leave as well, gathering his paperwork into his briefcase, not even glancing over to Sakura, she was at least expecting some snarky comment or something about her bold actions.
She caught up to him in the parking lot. About to get into his luxurious but understated black car.
"Sasuke! Listen I know I might have crossed some boundaries, but I think..."
As usual, he didn't let her finish. "You think?! You derailed my case!"
"You're going to win the case thanks to my argument, what do you mean derailed!?"
"I just... I don't know who you think you are to just waltz in here and do as you please! Flirting with judge Kakashi to get an advantage! Cheap!"
She was officially offended. "Didn't I just see you flirting with the jury a few moments ago?! What the hell is your problem with me? Is because we used to..." Hypocrite
"You just think you can come here, to my firm, take my case, and I'll say nothing, just because you're Naruto's whore!"
She tensed at the insult. Looked down and tried but failed to remember her anger management techniques.
"Asshole..." she exhaled, the word almost a whisper. And then she moved, too much in close proximity to Sasuke for him to react.
Her fist made contact with his cheek. Hard. Sending him stumbling back against his car. She felt the bones of his cheek bone crack a little.
But couldn't feel concerned about his wellbeing. What kind a person says that!? She thought and simply walked away to her own car.
Sasuke heard the delicate clacking of her high heels as she walked away. And thought, for what would be only the second time in his entire life. I might have fucked up.
Thank you for reading. Please don't forget to leave your thoughts in a comment. Constructive criticism is always appreciated!

A New Year
A young Kakashi Hatake slid down beside his next-door neighbor as she squirmed and squealed with anticipation. It was the first time she would ever see midnight, or at least voluntarily. He surveyed her wild ginger hair, the freckles across the bridge of her scrunched-up nose, that gleam in her mossy green eyes. Kakashi never cared much for New Years—it was just another day to him—but seeing it through her eyes made him care. She grinned up at him and swung her legs back and forth, and her excitement swelled in his little boy heart a sort of happiness that you can only truly feel when you’re still a kid. And then the clock struck midnight and like a bottle of champagne, she burst, falling backward onto the floor shrieking “Happy New Year!”
At age eleven, he sat beside Obito and Rin in the ramen shop as heavy foot traffic flowed behind them. He could feel something like anticipation rising in Rin’s throat, a question she was unsure if she could ask. Obito fumed with tension. Kakashi was sandwiched between the two, the heightening unspoken conflict only making him that much more unnerved. The steam from his noodles dampened his brow and his hands felt unsteady. He quietly excused himself and ducked out for some fresh air. The cold nipped at what little of his face was exposed, and he found his legs carrying him further down the street than his mind intended. He watched the crowds of people laughing and drinking and holding hands, enthralled by their happiness. And then he bumped into her. He should’ve been paying closer attention. The box of late-night shipments tumbled to the ground, spilling books everywhere. She gripped his forearm to steady herself. A large gong from nowhere in particular rang loud and clear, signaling the new year. It took Rei a moment to comprehend what had happened but once she did, her face burned bright red. Despite his mask, she could still feel his lips pressed against hers perhaps a little too unwillingly. And yet he had not moved away. Was he, too, paralyzed? Or was it something else? Rei recoiled and averted her eyes, apologizing softly before ducking into the shop and wishing him a halfhearted “Happy New Year.”
He didn’t know how it happened, and he cursed fate for having even put him in this situation in the first place. He was twenty-one. Everyone else was likely off drowning in alcohol and while he wasn’t one for the social scene, he almost wished he was with them instead. He could feel Rei’s presence pulsating beside him, wondered what expression painted her face beneath that kitsune mask. New Year’s Eve meant anything could happen. It was a night of possibility and magic. The threshold of a new beginning. It was also a night of danger and the hokage always insisted on tightening security. One false move and a firework could turn into a bomb, a celebration into a terrorist attack. The anticipation was killing him. He almost hoped something bad would happen just so he could avoid something good. He was too terrified of the good. But then midnight came and the world below rejoiced. He reached out and his fingers grazed hers, itching to interlock. “Aisuru…” he whispered. There was so much power in a name, so much history in a single word. Her heart leapt into her throat. She did not look at him. “Happy New Year.”
Sekkachi was about ready to drink herself to death. The bar was packed with shinobi tired and tense, Kakashi included. His students were wearing him thin and the night away was such a relief. He rested his hand on Rei’s lower back as she took another swig of sake, her face glowing with intoxication. How he had stayed away from her so long, how he had kept his distance, he had no clue. Standing here beside her now, he couldn’t imagine living one more second without her. He gripped her hand then, whispering, “Come here for a second.” She looked at him curiously, following him back to a secluded corner of the bar. He brushed the hair out of her face, fingers grazing that scar across her nose. And then midnight came and the world around them erupted. Kakashi tugged his mask down and pressed his lips hard against hers, his hand lightly gripping her shirt at her lower back. Everything else melted away—the world no longer existed except for him and her. When he pulled away, she looked back at him in a drunken haze, cheeks bright red. God, he loved her so much. The promise of their futures flashed before his eyes as he pressed his forehead to hers and whispered, “Happy New Year.”
When they asked her why she wasn’t drinking, she refused to give an answer. She didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. It was nothing. She could feel their stares, however, as she ordered another soda. It made her sick. Kakashi could sense her growing anxiety, massaging the base of her neck in an effort to ease the tension. The fact she had made the effort to come out at all in the first place, had dragged herself through that thick haze of exhaustion and nausea, was admirable but he knew deep down she just wanted to go home. The only thing keeping her here, of course, was reputation. But really, who cared? They were beyond the expectations of bachelors and the youth now. A new era was just around the corner. They slipped out shortly before midnight, walking slow back to their apartment with hands interlocked. Her profuse apologies broke his heart. “You have nothing to be sorry for” Kakashi reminded her. They stopped just outside the complex as the clock struck midnight. A soft smile touched his lips as he leaned down and kissed her softly, and in that kiss was the shared knowledge that everything was going to change. This was the last year things would be calm ever again. He pressed a hand to the small bump beneath her shirt and whispered “Happy New Year.”
The chaos outside made Kakashi anxious. He considered abandoning the paperwork piled high on his desk, giving himself the night off, but he knew a hokage never truly rested. There was so much to organize in the aftermath of the war. But something far more important waited for him at home. He signed off one more document before deciding to officially depart for the night and as he walked home, he suddenly grew terrified that he wouldn’t make it in time. Swarms of people were already crowding around in preparation for the turn of the new year. He burst into their home with five minutes to spare, the living room cluttered with brightly colored toys and pillows and blankets. And then he saw them and his heart swelled. This. This is what was most important. He set his equipment down slowly, then tiptoed to the couch where his wife was fast asleep. Her hair was matted and tangled, there was spit up on her shirt, and yet he couldn’t help but think she had never looked more beautiful. A hand rested atop their infant daughter’s back as she slept peacefully atop Rei’s chest. She probably struggled for hours to quiet her. When that gong struck midnight, Nariko would probably snap awake wailing and screaming, erasing all of that hard work. He pursed his lips trying to think of a way around it all, stroking her fine, pale hair affectionately. Before he could come up with a plan, however, midnight came but neither Rei nor their daughter woke. Relief washed over him as he kissed his daughter’s head, and then his wife’s. Rei’s brows furrowed at the touch, her eyes creaking open. It took her a moment to register that it was Kakashi before her, really him and not just a figment of her imagination. And then a soft smile touched her lips as she watched him kick his shoes off and climb carefully onto the couch to curl up beside them, wrapping his arms around the two most important people in his life. As they settled in, he nuzzled her cheek and murmured, “Happy New Year.”
As the years wore on, New Year’s Eve transformed into a time of reflection and gratitude. Kakashi thought back to when he and Rei were just kids, how indifferent he had been except for her. The excitement in her eyes, that untouched innocence, was enough to make him reconsider. And now, lounging in his living room watching his own children race and leap and holler, he was filled with a similar sense of wonder and light. Nariko flung her stuffed animals high into the air with infectious laughter as their son, growing sleepy, settled into his mother’s lap. As predicted, he was barely making it to midnight whereas she would probably last until dawn if they let her. They were filled with so much promise, these precious little kids. Kakashi still couldn’t believe he was lucky enough to call them his own, to have a family of his own in the first place. His fingers interlocked with his wife’s as she rested her head on his shoulder, and then the clock struck midnight and another year officially began. Rei gazed up at her husband with glassy eyes, as if their world was to good to be true, and they heard Nariko gag playfully as they kissed. “That’s gross!” she shouted, though her mind was elsewhere in minutes. Fireworks blared outside their window, capturing children’s wonder with their bright colors and loud pops. Kakashi and Rei followed close behind to enjoy the show. No matter what trials and tribulations they faced every other day of the year, at this moment nothing else mattered and the world was perfect. Rokurou plugged his ears as Nariko cupped her hands around her mouth then and screamed to the world below “Happy New Year!”

Hi did you ever continue your Blast From the Past kakasaku story? I found it in my likes and am hoping to read more if you have it. Thanks!
Hi!
Here is the next part. It was never finished so I can’t really say I remember where I was going with it lolol. It’s about 4k words. There’s a bit of NaruSaku in here, just letting you know!
The only sound that fills the coldstone room is the rhythmic dripping of a leaky faucet. Kakashi’s nose twitchesand it is a quirk usually hidden by the barrier of his mask, but annoyancefills him at knowing that it—much like his headband and weapons—has beenstripped from his person. Idly drumming his fingers on the arm rests of thesteel chair he’s been fettered to—with strong chakra suppressors, ofcourse—Kakashi shifts his eyes from one end of the cell to another. There are archaicmanacles hanging from chains bolted to the wall and he bites his lip to stop achuckle from escaping him; how many times had he strung up a prisoner on thosesame manacles and stood in on interrogations?
Kakashi was never really fond of irony to begin with, anyway.
It’s a shame the reality he foundhimself in was actual reality and nota genjutsu, because his current situation was definitely putting a dapper inhis usually unaffected mood. He mused that perhaps, in retrospect, he shouldn’thave taken out a kunai in the presence of so many wary shinobi. His intentionsweren’t to attack anyone, but rather to pierce himself with it when disruptingwhat he thought was a genjutsu with chakra didn’t work. He was quickly disarmed, however, and his disbelief was momentarily curbed by the sharp kunai drawingblood from his neck. The last thing he remembered before losing consciousnesswas the sickening feeling in his gut telling him everything is wrong.
And then heawoke in the all too familiar T&I “chamber of doom,” as his pink-hairedformer student like to call it.
Brought out of his musing by the gratingsound of the heavy steel door being pushed open, Kakashi quickly bit back a mirthlesssmirk. Speak of the devil and she shallappear. Even without his chakra, he could recognize his sole female studentanywhere—she still preferred the shampoo she used as a twelve-year-old child. Floral Green.
Two membersof ANBU followed her in and moved to stand in the corner as the sharp click ofher heeled boots stopped at the table in front of him. For a long while, no onespoke and he took the time to silently observe this unknown version of hisstudent.
This Sakurawas different, uncomfortably so. Gone was the childish naiveté and lingeringbaby fat, and in its place is a woman Kakashi is unfamiliar with. Her hair isunbound and longer, reaching well past her waist and adorned with small braidshere and there. Just like her shishou, Sakura chose to paint her nails the samecolor as her lips—ruby red. He watched as she patiently pulled out a chair andremoved her formal Hokage robes to drape them over her seat. Kakashi blinked atthe black cat-suit she wore under the stifling robes, and that terrible gutfeeling returned. When did Sakura becomesuch a woman?
Well, hesupposed he wouldn’t know, this Sakurais apparently 30 years old.
Said thirty-year-oldwoman cleared her throat and Kakashi cut his eyes back to her own steely green. The weight of her gaze made him uncomfortable; he was familiar with torture ofcourse, but the fact that it was Sakuramade him nervous.
“Hatake Kakashi,”the sound of her voice makes the hair at the nape of his neck stand on end. Itis deeper, smoother, and not entirely unpleasant, but its novelty makes his jawclench.
“That is the person we believed you wereimpersonating,” she says evenly, and his brows furrow at the absurdity of it.He is Hatake Kakashi!
“But when Ipersonally ran a thorough examination on your person, everything points to youbeing who you appear to be,” she continues slowly, “It is impossible to replicate the Sharingan, it’s impossible to have someone else’s chakra signature, and yet you do.But that can’t be right, so we had a Yamanaka confirm who you were by perusingyour memories.”
The silverhaired man ignored the blatant invasion of his privacy and continued tosilently observe her as she chewed the inside of her cheek while deep inthought. Sakura raised eyes the color of sea glass to meet his own and thesight of unshed tears surprised him.
“Kaka-sensei,where have you been?”
Kakashi wasalways known as a genius, and it didn’t take him long to figure out that thingswere obviously not how he left them.
He sent hera small smile, the one he knew had always comforted her, and she bit her lip astears spilled over and made their way down flushed cheeks.
“Maa, Idefinitely got lost on the road of life thistime Sakura-chan!”
His familiareye crinkle, even without the mask, made her laugh even as she cried and rushedaround the desk to remove his chakra suppressors and pull him into bonecrushing a hug. Kakashi grunted as she squeezed him with that monstrousstrength of hers and he gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
Sakurapulled away with a sniffle, and then chuckled as she wiped her eyes.
“Look atme,” she said bitterly, “the great Hokage crying in front of her subordinates.”
Kakashirubbed his wrists, levelling her with a measured gaze and his mouth pulled intoa grim line.
“About that, Sakura,” at the sound of hername coming from his voice, fresh tears started anew but she held them at bay,“What is going on here?”
Sakura sighed and rubbed at hertemples. It was such a difficult question to answer; what was going on? How could anyone explain how a man thought long deadhad suddenly appeared in her office looking the same as he did when he firstdisappeared 14 years ago? It was a difficult mystery, and it would take thebest minds available to figure it out. But she figured she could begin with thebasics and fill him in on important events that had happened in his absence.Sakura sat in the uncomfortable steel chair once more, and gestured for Kakashito do the same.
“Tiger-san,”addressing the ANBU operative to her left, Sakura pulled a few files from thefolds of her robes.
“Hai,Hokage-sama?”
“Pleasefetch me some sake from my desk, please.”
The ANBUoperative disappeared with a nod and Kakashi rose an eyebrow when he reappeareda few moments later with two bottles of expensive sake. Both eyebrows almostshot to his hairline when she poured him and herself a generous helping of thealcoholic drink. He instantly pushed the cup back towards her, and she shookher head at him before pushing it back.
“Trust me,Kakashi, you’re going to need it.”
He didn’tthink so, but he guessed he’d humor her for a bit. Sakura quickly drank herfirst cup, refilled it, and then swirled it around as she collected herthoughts. Looking at her at that moment, he saw little to no trace of the girlhe used to know. Sitting in front of him was a woman who was hardened by life, weighed down by her own personal burdens, and he was suddenly reminded ofhimself.
It…wasn’tsomething he wanted to see in any of his students.
“Kakashi,”he brought his attention back to her face, where she was gazing at him with thesame look she would give a particularly difficult medical scroll, “it’sdifficult to understand, but it seems like you’ve jumped through time.”
Tilting hishead, he made a point to keep his voice level, “What do you mean, jumped through time?”
Sakuralifted her shoulders in a minute shrug and took a sip from her cup, “Just as itsounds; you have, for all sense and purposes, travelled through time. Orrather, your body stayed in some sort of stasis as time passed you—passed allof us—by. Though your records say you should be in your mid-forties, your bodyis that of a 30-year-old; which means you have not aged—at all. And we don’tknow how.”
Kakashiquickly drank the sake in his cup as his mind whirled. Ah, perhaps a drinkwasn’t so bad of an idea after all. His mind raced to put together bits andpieces that would lead him to an answer to how such a thing was even possible. How could he have jumped through time and remained the same age? He didn’t feelany different, he felt the same way he did when he woke up in his apartment a fewdays ago—old and burdened. Eyes the color of slate widened when the answer cameto him the form of a memory.
“The last thingI remember was fighting a foreign nin, and he opened the scroll and used ajutsu that casted an extremely bright light. He spoke strange words as he didso, and I remember dragging myself to a cave to rest for the evening before Imade my way back to the village.”
Sakura tooknotes as he spoke, and her brow furrowed, “Were there any side effects to thejutsu?”
Kakashi’seyes narrowed, “Yes, there was. His body had aged, and it was as though he hadbeen drained. It didn’t take much to burn his body; it was on the verge tobeing blown away by the wind.”
She hummedover the sound of her pen scribbling in her notebook, waving her left hand in asign to continue with his recollection.
Kakashisighed and leaned back in his seat, “When I woke up again, my injuries had beenhealed, and the only sign of any time passed was a significant beard. After Igot rid of that, I made my way here.”
“That’sright,” Sakura mused as she crossed her arms over her modest chest and staredat the ceiling thoughtfully, “when I conducted your examination, all you hadwere lingering muscle tears and a few new scars.”
Kakashishook his head, “It doesn’t make sense; I had a broken leg and multipleinjuries.”
“Then I takeit you don’t remember how you were healed,” she remarked wryly as she bit theend of her pen. Kakashi’s answering shrug was enough of a confirmation for herand she placed her pen down.
It was along moment before Kakashi spoke, his voice carrying a hint of hope that madeher wistful, “What about the scroll? The jutsu he used came from the scroll.”
His hopedissolved into ash at the shake of her head, “The scroll is useless. We openedit when we inspected your bag and it was blank. It was a one-time-use scroll.”
“So,”Kakashi started carefully, as if his next words would destroy the delicatebalance between himself and the world, “I can’t go back?”
Sakura’spitying glance was answer enough and Kakashi closed his eyes against theonslaught of emotions even as she said, “I’m sorry, but there’s no feasibleway.”
But Kakashihad always been resilient and adaptable, even in the face of grief. There wasnothing he could do—this was his life now.
“Tell me,Sakura,” he began wearily, “what happened while I was…gone.”
The silencethat followed was tense, and it felt as if the ever-present weight on Sakura’sshoulders had gotten heavier. Refilling her sake cup and Kakashi’s once more, she cradled the ceramic cup in her hands as she gazed into the warm liquid.
TellingKakashi of the many changes that happened while he was away was going to betough. But she was the Hokage, she was the bearer of any and all bad news, shewas used to breaking hearts. It didn’t make it any easier, though. Here was aman she had looked up to for most of her life, even when he hadn’t paid muchattention to her as a Genin, and she loathed to add to his many lists ofregrets. But he had to know, he neededto know.
“Fourteenyears is a long time, Kakashi,” she began softly with a sad smile, “a lot ofthings have happened since then.”
“Like youbecoming the Hokage?”
Sakura’shumorless laugh made the room seem colder and it almost made him regret hiscallous tone—even if he was very curious as to how she became the leader of thevillage. Wasn’t that Naruto’s dream?
“Yes, likeme becoming the Hokage.”
His eyesfollowed the course of her finger gently tracing a crack in the wood of thetable as the heaviness in the room threatened to suffocate him. When it didn’tseem like she was going to speak any time soon, Kakashi cleared his throatpointedly. Sakura startled out of her thoughts and she smiled apologetically.
“I’m sorry,it’s just that there’s so much that’s happened this last decade, it seemsdifficult to put it all into words.”
Kakashi wasnever good with emotional situations, much less emotional women, but Sakurawasn’t just anyone, and it was obvious whatever she had to say was extremelyimportant and quite distressing.
Emerald eyesshot up in surprise when a hand covered her own. Kakashi’s warm eyes crinkledin reassurance and it only made things worse.
Nothing shehad to say was positive.
“Let’s startwith the village first, and then move onto the people.”
Sakuranodded, took a deep breath and squeezed his hand thankfully.
“It’s alot,” she whispered, “but okay.”
When Kakashileaned back into his seat, she began.
“It turnsout that mission Tsunade-shishou sent you on long ago was more important thanwe realized—that scroll was moreimportant than we realized. Yes, it was a retrieval mission, and had you allsucceeded, it would have been given to a representative from Iwa in a show ofgood will. Unfortunately, what Shishou didn’t know was that the representativefrom Iwa was actually a ninja from Kiri and both villages were in conflict overrights to the scroll. Unknown to us, Oto was pulling the strings behind bothvillages in order to cause turmoil, and when the scroll suddenly vanished, allthree blamed Konoha.”
Bothpowerful ninja drank from their cups to lighten the weight settling in their guts.
“Kiri hadsent a spy into our village, and that was an act of war all in itself, but twoyears after your disappearance—we searched for you for months—the village was invaded by Kirigakure, Otogakure, andIwagakure. I was 18.”
Kakashicradled his head in his hands. Invaded. His village was invaded and he wasn’t there to defend it. How bad was it? How manypeople died? Were they anyone he knew?
He hadn’trealized he had spoken out loud until Sakura began to answer his questions.
“It was—itwas bad, Sensei,” she said shakily, “The village was decimated. Civilian casualties were in the hundreds, and the numberof shinobi killed…Kakashi, we have two memorial stones now.”
He drew in asharp breath at that, two memorial stones? Were more of his friends on there?Sakura must have seen the question on his face because she grasped his hands inher own and ran her thumbs over his knuckles in a comforting gesture. Her handswere rough, testament to all of the battles fought and training done to get towhere she is.
“Kakashi,”she began softly, “I’m so sorry, butGai-sensei gave his life in that attack. Along with Asuma-sensei, Genma-san,and Raidou-san.”
Kakashi’schest threatened to cave in under his grief; all of his friends had perishedduring the invasion. But now was not the time to mourn, he would do that in theprivacy of his own home. Sakura continued to rub her thumbs over his skin, hergaze riveted to each silvery scar that riddled his hands.
“There was awar soon after that,” Sakura’s jaw clenched, “The Fourth Shinobi Great War. Itwas brutal, the worst war the Shinobi world has ever seen, even if it lastedonly a few days. It was a war between the Akatsuki and the Shinobi Alliance. They were planning on casting an Infinite Tsukiyomi, collecting all of thebijuu to summon the Ten-Tails, and then destroy the shinobi nations. They—theymobilized the dead and made us fightthem. Our friends, our family, loved ones. It was awful and Konoha was alreadyso weakened from the attacks by Iwa, Oto, and Kiri. Do you remember Tobi, sensei?”
Her eyeslatched onto his own and he nodded mutely.
“Tobi was UchihaObito,” Kakashi sucked in a sharp breath but she continued, “He was rescued fromunder that great rock that destroyed half of his body and was trained by MadaraUchiha. He inherited his plan to create an ideal world where you, Rin andhimself would be together again. In the end, Sasuke-kun was the one who foughthim, but it was Naruto who made him have a change of heart.”
Sakura’slips curled into a smile as she spoke of Naruto; he would be the one to make an enemy switch dispositions.
Her facehardened once more as she continued recounting the war, “Obito sacrificed hislife to save us from the war, and Team 7 fought the Moon Goddess Kaguya.”
Kakashi wasstunned, so much had happened while he was gone sleeping in some random cave.
Sakurasmiled gently, “Team 7 won, of course. You would have been so proud of us. ButSasuke-kun and Naruto, well, they just couldn’t let it end there. Sasuke wantedto kill the tailed beasts, and the remaining Kage, so that he would be theultimate authority and decide right from wrong to avoid another war. Narutowasn’t having it, of course, and they fought once more at the Valley of theEnd.”
Sakura drewback and swirled her drink before throwing her head back and drinking it.Kakashi followed suit, then scrubbed at his face with his left hand. He wasalmost loathed to ask, but he had to know.
“And thenwhat happened?”
Sakura’sbottom lip trembled as she spoke, “Naruto and Sasuke were always evenlymatched,” she lifted teary eyes to meet his own, “you should have seen them,Sensei, they were amazing. They were legendary.”
Anxiety andimpatience threatened to swallow Kakashi whole and he raked a hand through histangled hair, “Sakura, what happened?”
She loweredher eyes sadly to look at her hands, tears welling up in her still too-largeeyes, “I—Naruto and Sasuke used the Rasengan and the Chidori respectively.Their attacks connected and they were—they were terribly injured and I—I didn’thave enough chakra to heal the bothof them and—“
Sakuracovered her face with her hands as a shuddering breath escaped her, “I couldonly save one; I had enough chakra toonly save one. Even with the Byakogou,I only had chakra for one. And—ohgod, sensei—I had to choose who tosave. I loved them both and I had to decide who would live and who would die.”
Kakashicould only watch silently as her grief consumed her, her elbows leaning on theold table in the cold interrogation room, and he admitted to himself that hewanted to lend himself to grief as well. But he held himself together, and soonSakura did the same. Drawing herself up once more, and wiping furiously at thetears leaking from her luminescent eyes, she continued her tale.
“Sasuke madethe choice for me,” but her voice was still thickened by sorrow, “he told me tosave Naruto. He said that his death would atone for his sins, that it would putan end to a cursed clan, and—and he said he didn’t deserve to live. Sasukebelieved Naruto was the future, and they held hands until he died.”
Sakuradidn’t mention how Sasuke thanked her once more, how he apologized for notbeing able to love her the way she wanted. But she forgave him, and she criedfor him, his brother, and for her heart while she worked on healing Naruto.
“When Narutowoke up, he asked for Sasuke, and I had to tell him the outcome. It was hard,Kakashi. We had lost you, and gotten Sasuke back, and then lost him too. It wasa lot to happen to Team 7. Sasuke-kun’s memorial service was held with all ofthe other fallen shinobi, and the Uchiha compound was turned into an orphanagefor orphans of the war.”
Feeling thewarmth of the sake running through his veins, Kakashi slumped in his seat,“What happened after the war?”
Sakuravisibly perked up at that and Kakashi was intrigued by the prospect of somesort of good news.
“Well, afterthe war, everyone started pairing up. War does that, I guess. People startrealizing that their time is limited and they want someone to carry on theirlineage. Naruto married Hinata and had a son and a daughter, Ino married Saiand they have a son, Shikamaru and Temari married and they too have a son, andChouji and Karui had a daughter. Most of the Rookies are married with children, actually.”
Kakashichuckled, goofball Naruto managed to marry the Hyuuga heiress and have twochildren? Go, Naruto.
“Where isNaruto now, anyway?” he asked, “I’m surprised he’s not here shouting at me formy record breaking tardiness.”
Instantaneously,it was like a dark cloud filled the room, and the ANBU in the corner tensed.Sakura wrung her hands in front of her nervously before releasing a deepbreath.
“He’s dead.”
Kakashi felthis whole world screech to a halt. Naruto, dead? His head was pounding, his stomach churning uncomfortably and he thoughthe was going to be sick. How could Naruto be dead? He was supposed to be the future of the shinobi world, theinheritor of The Will of Fire! How couldhe be dead?
“How,” heground out, “how did he die?”
She gentlygripped his hands in her own and steadily held them between them.
“It was anambush on a mission that took them,” she began progressively, “It was Sai,Naruto, and another Jonin. They were vastly outnumbered, and they made it tothe village gates before the collapsed, but they had bled too much and theirinjuries were infected from their journey back. It was disastrous to village morale.”
“Didthey—did they have any last words?”
Sakurasmiled sadly, “Yes, they did. Sai asked for Ino, he wanted me to tell hisfamily that he loved them. Naruto wanted the same.”
What shedidn’t tell Kakashi, however, was Naruto’s true last words. Yes, he asked forhis wife and children and sent them his unconditional infallible love; but hislast words were for her. For his Sakura-chan.
As she heldhis cool hand in her own smaller one, shaking in fear and grief andhelplessness, she stared into his beautiful blue eyes as the light began tofade from them forever. She told him how much he meant to her, how much of ahero and legend he was, how Hinata and his children needed him so he couldn’t die. And with one last squeezeof her hand, one last brilliant grin, he said to her, “I have never stopped loving you, Sakura-chan. You have my heart, always.”
And she heldthat close to her heart. Those words were hers and hers alone.

summary The end/the beginning
“Okay, okay, everyone quiet, please,” Tsunade called, clapping her hands together once. People settled into their chairs. Some placing their folders on their desks. Others tucking their phones into their pockets.
“I know everyone is anxious to prep for the day, so I’ll keep this meeting short.”
“Thank God,” muttered Asuma, leaning back in his seat. A few people chuckled, including the principal.
“First of all, I want to welcome everyone back. I hope that you had a chance to relax and recharge over spring vacation. It’s a brand new school year, so I hope you’ll go into it with open minds and high expectations,” Tsunade said, like she did every year. A few people nodded.
“On a sad note, Chiyo-sensei has injured her hip and will not be able to join us this semester. She’s on bed rest to recover from her surgery,” Tsunade then added. A murmur rippled around the room. Chiyo had been at the school for longer than anybody.  Although stern-faced, she always had words of wisdom to offer. Sort of like a terrifying grandmother to all the faculty.
“We’ve hired a replacement, though. I’m sure some of you will be familiar with her already.”
As if on cue, a head popped in through the door.
“Konchiwa!” she chirruped. flashing a grin.
Asuma jumped to his feet, nearly knocking his chair over.
“Ah! You!” he exclaimed, pointing. She danced into the room, reaching across the desk to bump her fist against his. They slapped their palms together. Gripping them tight for a moment.
“Sarutobi-sensei!” she said, releasing his hand.
“Haruno-kun! Wait, no. You got married, right? What’s your name now?” he asked.
Still smiling, she held up her left hand to reveal a bare ring finger.
“Just Haruno again. I got divorced last month!” she announced in the same cheerful tone.
Absolute silence answered her. Anxious eyes darting around as people tried to think of what to say. But she solved the problem by laughing.
“Anyway, I’ll be the new school librarian starting today,” Sakura declared. Teeth gleaming bright as she flashed another smile.
After Tsunade wrapped up the meeting, normally, the teachers gathered up their things. Some went to make copies before classes started. Others went to make coffee or put their lunches away in the fridge in the small kitchen tucked into the back of the staff room.
But today, everyone crowded around the new hire. Although, it was hard to call her “new” when most of them knew her quite well.
“Can’t believe you’re the replacement!” laughed Kurenai, clapping Sakura on the shoulder.
“That’s right, I was watching your interview on the television the other day. Is it true that you’re retiring?” Shizune asked.
“Alright, you’re smothering her. Give her some space,” grumbled Asuma, swatting his clipboard around. Fist on his hip, he glared around at his coworkers.
“We’ll go out for drinks tonight and you can pester her then,” he added.
“Bleh. You’re no fun, Sarutobi-sensei,” one of the teachers complained.
“Don’t make me blow my whistle at you,” Asuma threatened. It dangled around his neck from a red lanyard. And it didn’t take long for the rest of the teachers to disperse, finally getting started with their prep for the day.
Kurenai lingered, leaning against the desk. “We’ll do all the catching up tonight. For now, focus on getting settled in. Do you need help getting to the library?” she said.
Sakura shook her head. “I still remember.” Sakura tapped her temple.
“Alright. Let me know if you have any questions,” Kurenai told her. Patting the top of the desk twice.
The library was on the second floor of the school. It was at the far end of the hallway, right next to the home economics room. She remembered spending her free periods studying there, the smell of fresh cookies spilling over from the class next door.
She slid the white door open. It was empty, just as she had expected. It was too early for most students to even think about being in here. Sakura stood in the doorway, admiring the lines of shelves. There were rectangular wooden tables in the middle of the room. Matching chairs pushed in underneath them.
There was a counter by the entrance. She remembered passing her books to Chiyo-sensei over it, waiting for her to stamp the white card inside. The smell of ink clinging to the cover as she shut the book. She also recalled the Chiyo-sensei had kept an orchid on the corner of the desk. A little pop of purple in the room otherwise filled with different shades of brown.
Sakura set her bag down on the desk, flicking on all the lights. She moved to the windows. She opened up all the blinds, let the sunlight stream in. And she stood, admiring the view. Her hands on her hips, she watched the schoolyard. Students were beginning to trickle in. Some walking their bikes, others strolling through the gates with their friends.
She inhaled deep through her nose. Exhaled just as slowly.
It felt strange to be home after so long.
The gold medal was a nice weight around her neck. Sakura wore it for all the interviews and press conferences. It gleamed in all the photos, catching all the light. She smiled until her cheeks hurt. Fielding all the questions from the reporters waving their hands around. The nonstop click of the cameras almost sounded like applause everywhere she went.
“Sakura, you broke your personal best today. How does that make you feel?”
“Grateful. I feel like all the support and love I’ve received helped me get to this point,” she responded.
“Is there anyone specific you’d like to thank?”
“My coach, of course, who’s taught me everything. And my fans for always supporting me,” Sakura said. As if she hadn’t answered that one hundreds of times before.
“Sakura, what’re your plans for next year? There are rumors that you’ll be participating in the World Figure Skating Championships coming up next month.”
And Sakura paused at that. The cameras flashing made colors dance in front of her eyes. She blinked the strange shapes away.
“I won’t. This is my last competition. I’m officially retiring,” she stated.
A gasp rippled through the crowd. More flashes exploding in her vision. Hands flailing around harder to get her attention. And she could feel her coach gaping at her. Sakura stood.
“Thank you all for your questions,” she said, effectively ending the press conference. Offering one last smile and wave, she stepped off the stage. ignoring the way her coach shouted her name as she walked away.
Konoha was a city built defying common sense. Or at least, that was what Sakura had always thought biking up the side of a hill of a mountain to school each day. The ride down was much smoother. And while a lot of her classmates walked their bikes up, taking their time, Sakura was too stubborn to admit defeat. She huffed and puffed her way up each day. Sweat dripping down the back of her neck first thing in the morning. Legs growing stronger with the effort.
She remembered dashing from school as soon as the afternoon clean-up ended. Wheels of her bike spinning in mad circles as she rolled down the side of the hill. Rushing to get to the rink at the bottom of the mountain, or the studio the next town over. Her duffle bag banging against her spine as she ran up and down winding steps.
With the cherry blossoms tumbling off the trees with each gust of wind, Sakura couldn’t help but remember those days. Her ponytail whipping out behind her as she dashed madly towards a goal she couldn’t yet see.
Tsunade introduced Sakura as the new librarian during the opening ceremony. For students in the small town, the arrival of a new teacher sent a ripple of excitement through the students. But it was amplified when the students recognized her name and her pink hair. She could see them murmuring, whispering behind their hands. Eyes darting to her, bright with excitement.
After the assembly ended, Sakura found herself back in the library. In that quiet. And after years of being surrounded by noise on all sides, it was actually kind of nice.
She perused the catalogue and double-checked that the shelves in the library were properly labeled. She even ventured into the dusty back room. Opening up boxes, she found some novels that hadn’t yet been labelled and sorted. She browsed through them, crunching through a handful of cashews with her free hand as she skimmed.
The silence didn’t last for long, though. Students began to trickle in, often in giggling clusters. They whispered as they watched her from behind shelves.
Sakura pretended not to notice them as she thumbed through an old reference book. It had some good information, but it was a little outdated. Which was to be expected in a rural school like this, she supposed. She scribbled this down onto her notepad before she moved on through the inventory.
After a while, one of the students come forward with a book. Hugging it to her chest. Sakura held her hand out for it without looking up. Sakura wrote down the title and number of the book in her log. Pencil scratching across the page. She stamped the card in the inside cover.
“Make sure you return this in two weeks,” Sakura said, handing the book back over the counter.
“Um... Haruno-sensei, could I get a photo with you, please?” the girl requested. And it was only then that Sakura lifted her head.
She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
“Why? I’m just a librarian,” Sakura asked.
The girl squeaked out an apology. She hurried off to join her friends. And they left the library, whispering angrily to each other.
When Sakura wandered into the faculty room around noon, she found Asuma waving his arms around as he told a story.
“And so I say, ‘Akimichi, why are you eating chips on the track?’ and he goes, ‘Because I haven’t had lunch yet, Sensei’,” Asuma concluded. A few of the other teachers chuckled. When Sakura slid the door shut, they looked up at her.
“Ah. Come over here, Haruno-kun. Say hello,” Asuma said, gesturing for her. Sakura’s face lit up as she walked over.
“Hatake-sensei,” she greeted him. Kakashi shook her hand, eyes crinkling as he smiled.
“Haruno-kun. Glad to see you haven’t forgotten your old homeroom teacher,” he replied.
"I'm guessing I didn't see you in the morning because you overslept? Or you were on the roof smoking?" she conjectured. Kakashi rubbed the back of his head, eyes crinkling again.
"Both. Fell asleep on the roof. The weather's so nice, lately," he confessed. And then his eyes popped open. He pointed his thumb in the direction of the man sitting beside him.
"Ah, Haruno-kun, this is Rock Lee-sensei. He's a brand new hire this year, so you wouldn't know him," Kakashi said.
And Lee couldn't even speak at first. His eyes practically sparkling as he stared up at her. Clasping his hands together, he fidgeted, looking a little like he might burst.
"It's a pleasure to meet you!" he finally blurted out, turning a few heads with the declaration. Sakura nodded, shaking his hand.
"What do you teach?" she asked.
"English!" Lee exclaimed. He still seemed to be having trouble adjusting the volume of his voice. Sakura smiled.
"I lived in America for a couple years. Maybe you can help me brush up on my skills so I don't get too rusty," she suggested. When she laughed, Lee did too. His nervous giggles too high-pitched to be natural. Asuma shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers.
The door slid open again and a few people walked in. The man at the front sighed, rolling his shoulders.
"Man, I'm beat. I hate the first few weeks with the 1st years. You have to treat them like they're babies," griped Shikamaru. He tossed his clipboard on his desk. But then he spotted Sakura, and his expression shifted. He walked over, hand held out. Instead of shaking it, Sakura slapped her open palm against his twice before they hit the backs of their hands together.
"Hey. Good to see you, Haruno," he said, grinning.
"Yeah. Good to see you too, Nara. Still can't believe you of all people became a teacher here. You were always griping about how you couldn't wait to leave," Sakura remarked, hand on her hip. Sighing, Shikamaru looked up at the ceiling.
"I can't believe it either," he griped.
They chatted for the rest of lunch break. Kurenai and some of the others joined them. Laughter filling the room as they revisited the old days. Asuma discovering Shikamaru taking a nap in the gym. The time Sakura scaled the side of the building on a dare.
"Remember that time you lifted someone over your head? That was scary," Shikamaru recalled.
"Ah, come on. He was sooo annoying," Sakura added. Kakashi shook his head.
"You guys were such a rowdy homeroom. You gave me so many grey hairs," he complained.
"Hatake-sensei, your hair has always been that color," pointed out Kurenai. They all burst into laughter at that.
After lunch, they all went their separate ways again. Sakura discovered a stack of biology textbooks hidden in the back of the book closet. She rubbed the dust off one of the covers and flipped through. They only looked to be a few years old. Gathering them up in her arms, she headed out of the library, down to the lab. Thankfully, there was no class inside when she peered through the window.
Sakura wedged her elbow into the crack in the door. Shoving it open. She stepped sideways into the lab to avoid smashing the books against the doorframe.
"Excuse me. Sensei?" she called out.
There was a light on in the tiny adjoined office. It flickered off. And then an older man in a white coat stepped through the door. His eyes widened. He rushed forward to take the books from her. Easing them onto the counter.
"Orochimaru-sensei, sorry to barge in like this," Sakura said. Orochimaru removed his reading glasses. He hadn't needed those the last time she had seen him. His expression warmed as he took her in.
"It's not a problem. How can I help you, Haruno-kun? Or, sorry. Haruno-sensei," Orochimaru corrected himself.
"I found these in storage in the library. I was thinking maybe you could use them," Sakura explained, placing her hand on the stack.
Orochimaru peered down at the pile, blinking.
"Well, I'm very thankful for this, but you should have sent some students. You carried these heavy things down the hall all by yourself?" he queried. Sakura smiled.
"I also wanted an excuse to come visit. Sarutobi-sensei wants to drag everyone to a drinking party after work. You're coming, right?"
When he pursed his lips, she already knew his answer. That didn't mean she was going to accept it.
"Please, Orochimaru-sensei. Don't you want to hear about all the cool stuff I've been doing?" she wheedled. Orochimaru's lips twisted.
"I don't know. I'm not a big fan of social gatherings," he hedged. He rubbed his hands together.
"I'll show you my training videos. Even the ones from when I was in Saint Petersburg," Sakura offered. Orochimaru's gaze sharpened. He stared her directly in the eyes.
"Even ones you haven’t posted to your Instagram?" he demanded. And Sakura laughed. She had won.
"You really are obsessed. Yeah, Sensei. Those too," she answered.
When the last bell rang and students filed out of the building, most of the teachers stayed put. There were clubs and activities to advise and paperwork to complete. Some holed up in the faculty room to grade as the sky began to darken.
Sakura lingered in the library, hands on her hips. Shikamaru tilted his head to one side. A book held against his hip.
"I mean, I don't think it's against school rules. I'd double check with the principal, though," he mused. Sakura tilted her head too. Crossing her arms across her chest. She nodded.
The door burst open. Asuma poked his head in, grinning.
"Come on, you two. Time to go!" he called.
"That old man's as annoying as ever," grumbled Shikamaru as they followed him into the hall.
In a town as small as Konoha, there weren't many places to choose from in terms of post-work drinks. There was a bar by the one and only train station, or another bar near the doctor's office. The one near the train station was a little nicer, however, and it seemed that the principal was in a generous mood.
The owner ushered them into the private room in the back. They settled around the low wooden tables. Purses and jackets went in neat piles against the walls.
Sakura made sure to sit next to Orochimaru, who still looked wary about the whole affair. On her other side sat Shikamaru.
Tsunade kept her speech short as she welcomed Sakura to the staff. Making a few jokes here and there that the older teachers laughed at. There were some new faces that Sakura wasn't familiar with. They introduced themselves, and Sakura forgot their names almost immediately. And there wasn't enough time to feel bad about this as food and snacks arrived.
Sakura unlocked her phone and scrolled through her old videos. She opened up the folder that read 'St. Petersburg Training'. Orochimaru leaned closer to get a better look. He pulled out his glasses, perching them on the end of his nose.
Tsunade laughed. “I still can’t get used to those. Orochimaru-sensei, you look like an old man.”
Orochimaru stared at her over his glasses before he replied, “Allow me to gently remind you that you’re a year older than me, Kouchou.” But Tsunade continued to laugh, raising a glass to herself in a toast.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not a day over 40,” she proclaimed. Laughter exploded from her end of the table at that.
Sighing, Orochimaru looked back down at Sakura’s phone. He fixed his glasses again. When Sakura hit play, Shikamaru heard the music and leaned in to watch too.
Sakura’s long ponytail whipped out behind her as she glided around the rink. She gathered momentum and speed, eyes narrowed as she concentrated.
Her left foot slid back. She pushed off, launching into the air. She spun around three times. But when she landed on her left foot, it buckled. She tumbled, hitting the ice hard. Shikamaru and Orochimaru winced in unison. In the video, a man skated over from the opposite end of the rink, chuckling as he helped her to her feet.
In the video, Sakura was laughing too as she stood. Brushing ice off the back of her leggings.
“Stop laughing and show me how to do it again,” she complained.
“You really suck at this. Maybe we should take a break?” he suggested, his back blocking out the camera for a moment. The clip ended there.
Sakura went on, playing through more footage from her training days. They could tell the passage of time from her hair. Long to short. Short to long. She went through phases, braiding it during her junior days, letting it grow long before cutting it short for her senior debut. And then it grew out again as she continued to compete. Her simple t-shirts started to bear famous logos and sponsorships began to pour in.
A few more people crowded around one end of the table to watch. They ‘ooh’ed and cringed in the same spots. Some gasping when she stuck the hard landings. Murmuring remarks when she spiraled in almost a blur, her arms held above her head. When the videos ended, Sakura looked up in time to see Orochimaru dabbing a tear from his eye.
“Oh, Sensei, you big softie!” she laughed, putting her arm around him for a second. He sniffed, expression quite composed.
“Your take-offs are so clean. But you’ve always been good at those,” he sighed, patting her knee. And then he shuffled back to his original position. Taking a sip of his beer.
“I had no idea Orochimaru-sensei was such a figure skating maniac,” Lee whispered. Kakashi chuckled as he poured him another drink.
“Orochimaru-sensei skated when he was younger. He’s the one that taught Haruno how to skate,” Kakashi replied. And Orochimaru smiled sheepishly.
“If only I was more careful and didn’t tear my meniscus in college,” lamented Orochimaru. Sakura patted his hand on top of the table for a moment.
“Then I wouldn’t have met you. I’m sure it’s still a tragedy in your mind, but I consider if one of my biggest blessings, Sensei,” Sakura assured him. Orochimaru went very quiet as he stared at her. Tears welled up in his eyes. Putting his arm around her, he yelled out for the waitress.
“Another round of beers on me, please,” he called.
A cheer rose up around the table.
Sakura spent the rest of the night getting to know the other teachers. The people like Asuma, Kurenai, and Kakashi had been her own teachers in high school. It felt strange to call them her colleagues now. And it felt even stranger for them to turn around and call her ‘sensei’ too. She saw new sides of them that she hadn’t had a chance to see. Like how Kakashi giggled with each new drink he tossed back. And how Tsunade told some bawdy stories that made Sakura’s cheeks burn as she listened in.
It had been nearly 10 years since she had set foot in her hometown. And while some of the faces were more lined, there was something comforting about sitting there. Listening to the inconsequential gossip. No stares or whispers as people tried to secretly take her photo.
She let Kurenai pour her another drink. Asuma lifted his glass and everyone else copied him.
“Welcome home, Haruno Sakura,” he crowed.
“Kampai!” everyone else cheered, clinking their glasses together. Beer foaming and sloshing down the sides.
Sakura threw her head back and laughed from deep inside her belly.

Bitter Tea
Part Seventeen of Ninja Dorks Flailing at Interpersonal Relations.
Finally, the long awaited reunion!  I think this story might twenty parts.
One | Previous
Kakashi leaned against the kitchen counter as he waited for the tea kettle.   The council was never easy to work with, but today had been a particularly grueling day.  The program Kakashi was advocating would be great to the village, but he had trouble getting support.  Shikaku had come up with the idea a few years back and it was a frequent discussion between the two of them.  Kakashi and Shikaku both recalled that perilous time after the Nine-tails attack, where the missions were non-stop to bolster Konoha’s strength.
The Third War had ground Konoha down to the bones on manpower and resources.  It had been exhausting keeping up appearances, and they were quite fortunate that no one had called Konoha's bluff.  This new program was perfect to start in peacetime, a way of diversifying the economy in the village so they wouldn't have to rely so heavily on missions in the future.  Konoha could not risk having the same problem again.
Kakashi was in a position of power that allowed him to make changes but he didn't have any support.
Kakashi had been prepared to be the worst Hokage in village history when accepted the position of Rokudaime.  He could still remember how excited the village was when Minato had been appointed. He hadn't been in the village for Tsunade's appointment, but she had no trouble in cementing her role as Godaime. Kakashi had never longed for power, it wasn't his dream, and he had never tried to play politics.  But those more suited for Hokage had perished in the war, leaving Kakashi with the obligation until Naruto matured.  Now, it was a problem.
Kakashi had spent most of his time in ANBU, taking direct orders from the Hokage, always wearing more than one mask.  Most of his missions weren't even documented for sake of village secrecy.  He had the loyalty of every agent in ANBU, his teammates who he had fought next to for years.  Everyone in the village knew he was qualified to be Hokage.  But they didn't like him. And with his greatest supporters masked or dead, Kakashi found himself thwarted every time he tried to make progress.  He was prepared to the worst Hokage, but he wasn’t ready to be the most useless.
Kakashi was pulled from his thoughts as the tea kettle began to whistle.
A loud crash caused him to start, the walls and floor shaking as he grasped for a pair of hidden kunai.  He spun around, grasping the tea kettle to send it flying.  He saw a flash of pink as the tea kettle connected.
"Sakura?” Kakashi could hear her swearing as he rounded the corner.  "What are you doing here?"
Dust was hanging in the air as he entered the living room.  Sakura had kicked the door off its hinges, causing his entryway to double in size. Part of the frame was on his couch, and the door handle had cracked his television screen.  Kakashi had a clear view of Panther in the hallway, his hands atop his head in surprise.
Sakura jumped her feet. "What the emergency?  Are you poisoned?  Are we under attack?"  Her hand landed on Kakashi’s arm and his muscles tensed automatically under her touch.
"Emergency?" He cast one more glance at Panther, who seemed calm despite Sakura’s questions.
Interesting.
Sakura placed herself in front of him like a shield, forcing him to press against a wall to keep space between them.  "Otter sent me here with an emergency scroll.  Maybe he heard about it before you did."
Otter?
“I see.  I can assure you that everything is under control. Otter has been gone for a bit and has some out of date information.  There’s no emergency.”
Kakashi placed his hands on Sakura’s shoulders to nudge her forward and slipped into the kitchen to return his kunai into the salad spinner.  Sakura was staring at the destroyed entryway when he returned.
"I can't seem to anything right,” she whispered.  Kakashi would have missed it if it weren’t for his keen sense of hearing.  He winced as he noticed her traveling pack on the floor. She had returned from her trip, but Sasuke was nowhere to be seen.
Kakashi bent down to pick up the dented kettle.  The boiling water had spilled on the remains of his front door.  "I was just about to have a cup of tea.  It sounds like you could use one."
"I should go. I’m sorry about your kettle." Sakura scrambled away from him to pick up her bag, avoiding eye contact with him.  “And your wall.”
Something was definitely off with Sakura, and Kakashi wanted to know what it was.  Normally this sort of thing would have him running far away. Yet, when it came to Sakura, he couldn’t help himself.
“You could stay.” Kakashi placed the ruined kettle in the trash and reached into a cabinet.  "I have another kettle in the cabinet and I could use the company.”
"My parents don’t know I’m back yet.  I could stay with them."
“Whatever you would prefer."
Sakura nudged the broken picture of the Yondaime with her foot.  “Actually, I was hoping we could talk in private."  She glanced over the hole in the wall where Panther stood.
"I'm certain they will patch up the wall in the morning.  We don’t have to drink the tea in his room."  Kakashi saw Sakura give a sniff to her armpit out of the corner of his eye as he filled the kettle with water.  "You can wash up, while I make the tea ready."
Sakura made a squeak and then excused herself.  He was preparing the tray when the shower began to run.  Kakashi eyed the tea kettle, noting that it still had a couple of minutes before the water would be ready.  He went out to the hallway and to stand in front of Panther.
"Explain."
"I have no idea what you are talking about Hokage-sama."
"The last agent assigned the Otter mask was your cousin.  Sakura arrived prepared for an attack and that didn’t alarm you at all. The only thing that caught you by surprise was the property damage.  You brought her here with misinformation and an inappropriate use of a transportation scroll."
"You missed her. Something had to be done."
Kakashi clenched his jaw, irritated by his subordinate’s calm reply.  No one would have had pulled such a stunt on him if he was still Anbu Commander.  Unfortunately, he was Hokage, which meant that Anbu was directly responsible for his well-being.   Tsunade must have felt the same way about Kakashi every time he hid her sake a few years ago.  No wonder she always called him impertinent.
The tea kettle began to whistle.
"We're not done with this conversation."
"Of course, Hokage-sama.”
Kakashi huffed as he returned to the kitchen, determined to apologize to Tsunade for all the grief he had put her through.  He placed the kettle on the tray before heading down the hallway.  Sakura emerged from the bathroom as he approached and he nearly dropped his tray.
Sakura had changed into one of his shirts, rather than selecting something she owned from her bag. Kakashi had let her borrow shirts before, but that was when she didn’t have her own clothes to change into. Sakura had washed with his soap and shampoo, draping herself with one of the few scents his sensitive nose could bear.
Kakashi was completely unprepared for the fierce desire that overtook him, the urge to press her against the wall and kiss her.  Sakura looked like she belonged with him, smelled like him, and he wanted to fill his other three senses with her.  Kakashi wanted to hear her gasp his name against his ear, to taste his way down her body, and to wake up with her pressed up against his side.
He bit his tongue hard to stop a swear word from leaving his mouth.
Kakashi had a tendency to dwell on regrets.  But this was completely unnecessary, tormenting himself with Sakura’s presence when he was nothing to her.  If she had worn her own clothes, showered with her soap, it would have been easier to remember those platonic boundaries.  He should have let her go to her family, to those important people in her life who had a right to her.
Kakashi gripped the tea tray as he cleared his throat.  “Go ahead.”
Sakura gave a small smile before turning around and stepping into the seldom-used room.  Kakashi took a moment to get his bearings, trying to make a plan for the night.  He would listen to what she had to say.  He would let her stay the night if she wanted to.  And he had to tell Sakura how he felt towards her tonight or tomorrow morning.  She had no idea what she was doing to him and it wasn’t fair to her
Steeling himself, Kakashi stepped into the office, setting the tea tray down on the desk, and then pulling over a chair that sat in the corner so he could sit across from her.   “Did something happen on your trip? I thought it would be a couple of years before you returned.”
Sakura traced the brim with her fingertip.  “I thought the same thing.  I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Sasuke.”
Kakashi’s heart clenched at the breathless way she spoke Sasuke’s name.  Kakashi had only known Sakura for a few months; it was ridiculous to think that he could mean anything to her.  He thought of her declaration of love to Sasuke during the Fourth War.  He didn’t understand why it was so important for her to say those words at the time.  Only now did Kakashi truly appreciate how brave she was; he was certain that his own confession would destroy him.
He was never meant for happiness.
“And yet, here you are. What brought you back to the village so you could break down my door in the middle of the night?”
Sakura stared at her cup in silence, and Kakashi took the opportunity to memorize the sight of her, to selfishly pretend there was something between them.  Sakura raised the cup to her lips, finishing the tea in one go.  She gasped when she was done, placing her hand on her chest as she sputtered. Kakashi raised his hand to pat her shoulder, before remembering his place and retreating back to his personal space.  She placed the teacup on the desk and then turned to face him with squared shoulders and a determined face.   Her next sentence forced the air out of his lungs.
"Did I break up with you?"
