a/n: this is so cute something about ellie getting awkward around someone she likes 😭😭😭 it's so funny to me i might make a part two to this later as well i kinda didn't know how to end this lol

ellie williams wasn't the person you thought would be having issues. if it was anyone, you have usually struggled to talk to people at the party your friends inevitably dragged you to.

yet, here you were.

sitting next to ellie who stuttered through two half-sentences before shutting up.

all she said was a pitiful, 'what's y-y-your maj-" before sighing and trying again but only got to stutter out, 'how o-old...?"

she now had her eyes closed while her head rested against the back of the couch. your eyes darted around trying to grasp at anything to not make her feel bad. you didn't really know what to do in this situation. people usually carried the conversation, not the other way around.

you lick your lips, "what's your favorite animal?" her head lifts from its original position as she cracks a smile.

"do dinosaurs count?"

you smile back at her giddy demeanor, "of course they do. what's your favorite?"

she sets her beer on the table in front of the couch, turning her whole body to you, "oh man, i could go on for hours. right now though? it has to be a-"

someone randomly shouts out, 'ellie williams!!!' which makes her stop and acknowledge them. they do a bro hug which makes you cringe a bit before they banter for a couple minutes. she was flowing with the conversation, not a single stutter in sight.

it comes so naturally to her right then so why was she so awkward with you? it stumped you.

she's chucking as she sits back down next to you, your previous conversation gone to the wind. she is back to awkwardly rubbing her hands while glancing at you.

after the thirtieth glance in 15 seconds, you look at her. she looks shocked as you lock eyes.

"do i have something on my face? why do you keep looking at me like that?"

a blush appears on her face while she coughs out like your question blind-sided her.

she pats her chest trying to stop coughing before she says, "i stare because you're... ya know, p-pretty." you don't miss the way the tips of her ears turn crimson.

you roll your eyes at her, "how many girls have you said that to tonight?" her face turns serious at your joke.

ellie shakes her head, "only you." the two of your hold eye contact for a moment before you have to break it. she clears her throat as the tension settles heavily.

she gets up, sauntering over to a group of people huddled in the corner. she fits in with them almost immediately, with no awkward sentences or fluttering looks.

for the rest of the night, you have to pretend you don't see her staring at you from across the room. you have to pretend that the idea of someone like ellie williams liking you didn't make you giddy.

but it did.

omg as a latina myself i literally ADORED ur little ellie/abby x latina!reader hcs they were so cute 🥹🥹 made me think of latina!reader finding the selena movie (w jlo) and showing it to abby/ellie as a rite of passage and ofc comforting them when they inevitably sob at the ending

OMG NO YOU'RE SO RIGHT

just imagine staring at them wearily throughout the whole movie as they're literally in awe like "wow she's so gorgeous! so talented!" and you're just like glancing at them every once in a while bc they have no idea what's coming. ellie would start crying immediately and abby would stare at the screen in shock while tearing up and then start sobbing once "dreaming of you" starts playing. they'd be in shock at the ending asking you if it's fr and grabbing onto you for a hug. after the movie you've achieved two things: initiating them and uniting them with the latino community against a common enemy.

ellie would definitely learn "dreaming of you" on her guitar and her fav selena songs would be "amor prohibido" and "bidi bidi bom bom"

abby's favs are probably "si una vez" bc she loves the emotion of it (she totally didn't listen to it on repeat when her and owen broke up /s) and "el chico del apartamento 512" bc manny loves dancing to that song and shimmies his shoulders during the chorus

Chapter 5 was amazing, I inhaled it as soon I saw it I love it so much.

The angst with Ellie and peach? Oh that conversation hurt me deeply, but at the same time it felt much needed for both of them. Ellie needs someone to trust in, the two of them needed that to be honest. Peach needed that hug real bad, i can't imagine living lonesome for so long, surrounded by people who think they know but they don't :(( and Ellie, I know Peach is probably not (yet) a mother figure for her but I'm glad Ellie could let all that guilt and pain, she was holding for so long, go and just hear someone tell her the truth: it's not her fault. She deserves to be alive.

Another thing I loved about their conversation it's that Ellie told reader the truth as well, she doesn't need to justify Luke actions towards her or blame herself for her marriage. I'm glad Ellie was there to reminder her that.

Now...about Joel and peach. This was me:

tbh that scene between Ellie and Peach wasn’t originally supposed to be that long or that deep and Ellie still wasn’t supposed to reveal her story or her bite, but idk I rewrote it and it just somehow fit perfectly/worked out! Like the way it starts off where they’re just talking about reader’s life and then boom Ellie drops everything on her and it just strengths their bond asdfghjkl I’m so glad I made it as long as I did! even though it pushed the chapter to 7k words 💀😂
