I mean that's also fair: I think I was saying I gravitate the most towards swordsman characters (sword!!!! cool!!!!!) but I do remember how much I liked the different characterizations/exploration of his character depending which route ur on -- at least between Blue Lions Felix vs Crimson Flower Felix. I still think a lot about his reflection on when Dimitri dies in Crimson Flower and it makes me :((((
ALSO also his supports were good. I still laugh a lot about his one with Annette and Lysithea for example. Or the one with Bernadetta lolol But the serious ones hoo they hit
22. Favourite scene?
One of my fave scenes was the reunion scene with Dimitri actually asdlkfjh I remember running into a post that was talking about the placement of the lords in light and I was breaking apart about Dimitri being in the shadows and rejecting Byleth's hand. I think a lot about that scene and it kinda warms my heart everytime I see art referencing that scene ;; 0 ;;

anyway so fire emblem engage releasing got me back into the fire emblem brainrot which sent me back to fire emblem fates so im going to ramble about fire emblem fates <3
because my relationship with fates specifically. it was my first fire emblem. it was my first romance in a videogame (coincidentally the only mlm option despite me identifying as cis & panromantic at the time). i love those characters even now. the game sucks ass. i never played birthright. i never finished revelations. i have played conquest so many times. i have fifty games on my switch and fire emblem fates conquest is number one for the total time played (134 hours). its number 3 for times played, only outdone by pokemon ultramoon & fire emblem echoes sov. there is so much wrong with it. the story sucks. the female characters are hypersexualized. you can marry your siblings. your little sister who is "technically an adult" looks 12. the balancing of that game makes anna from fe3h look like a decent unit. i had to play on the easiest mode (the one where units return the next round) just to clear the final map. the child unit thing that made sense in awakening was dumb in fates. that game is a disaster and i love it

Here is the full compilation of all the works I managed to finish! For certain characters I went back and did some very minor touch-ups, just so they look a bit more consistent. That said, you can see how my style changed quite over time :3;;; Which is fine! I wanted to experiment with the soft texture brushes and try to come up with a style that would look crisp when zoomed out, but also look interesting close up. I hope I managed to achieve that, and that it looks good!!

So, I know a majority of you guys follow me for my art, but I also kinda wanna post some rambles about my interests and the like (a majority being about FE3H). This is me wanting to be a little unhinged on my dash.
I'm still gonna be posting art (got stuff already cooking), but if you want to watch me go insane over Byleth's heartbeat, keep reading.
So, as someone who has been listening to the FE3H soundtrack for the past few months there's this really subtle narrative moment that's happening in the music during the scene where Byleth’s heart starts to beat for the first time.
What I mean by this is when you go back and you listen to the soundtrack or the music of the game, you're going to start to notice the heartbeat motif.
The music of FE3H has a lot of distinct leitmotifs throughout the score. Most of them are tied to just locations or themes throughout the game, but then there’s the characters. Now, I don’t know if Dimitri or Claude have leitmotifs themselves (Although, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), but I’m fairly certain their routes do. However, none of it comes close to how distinct and prolific Rhea and Edelgard’s leitmotifs are.
Rhea’s leitmotif can be understood as the “Song of the Nabateans”; the lullaby she sings during the winter ball when you encounter her wandering the entrance hall. That progression of chords acts as a musical shorthand or stand-in for Rhea within the soundtrack of the game. It is tied to Rhea/Seiros or the nabateans in general. You hear it again during “Funeral of Flowers”. It’s distinct and recognizable, but then there’s Edelgard’s.
Which is just EVERYWHERE. The progression of chords that follows “Reach for my hand…” in “Edge of Dawn '' makes its way into a LOT- and I mean a LOT- of the music. From the more obvious tracks of “The Apex of the World” and “Three Houses Main Theme”, to subtler ones like, “Unfulfilled” and “Life at Garreg Mach Monastery”. The motif is everywhere and employed at every possible moment. Like once you hear it, it becomes impossible to not notice its presence.
But then there’s Byleth.
Now, Byleth doesn’t have a leitmotif in the traditional sense. They don’t really have a distinct progression of chords symbolizing them within the music, but they do have a distinct sound: the heartbeat. The heartbeat acts as a kind of throughline for them within the composition of the music. It’s almost like a solo instrument. Wherein, instead of a progression of chords symbolizing the whole of a character, it’s the musical sound and presence of one distinct instrument.
It’s kinda acting like the percussion section of an orchestra, but is only included within the composition in regards to Byleth. And it’s similar in nature to Edelgard’s, where once you start noticing, you realize it’s everywhere. But it’s hard to catch because it’s often buried so low in the mix. In the moments it’s not though, it’s very difficult to ignore.
So it's pretty buck wild that the scene where Byleth’s heart actually starts to beat, the song that plays doesn't contain the heartbeat motif.
“A World for Humanity” is the song that plays during that final cutscene of Crimson Flower and the heartbeat motif is nowhere to be seen. Which is pretty interesting because the player would have literally just heard it not two minutes ago in the context of the game. The heartbeat motif shows up in “The Apex of the World”, CF’s final boss theme. The player would have been listening to it as they were finishing the final chapter of the game. So musically, “A World for Humanity” follows “The Apex of the World”. Something happens where the percussion of the heartbeat motif vanishes between the two tracks. And after this moment, the rest of CF’s music doesn’t contain the heartbeat motif.
In-text, we know what caused that vanishing: Byleth’s heart actually starts to beat where it hadn’t for the entirety of their lives, but the narrative implications of that transition just fits so well with the overarching theme of CF.
Now, there’s a lot to be said about the individual themes connected to each of the different routes within the game and for the most part, I’ve seen a lot of different takes regarding CF’s major theme as “the cost of one’s ideals”. Which, I’m not saying it isn’t a part of that route. It very much is, but what I am saying is that that theme is not distinctly tied to just CF. I’d argue it’s present throughout the entirety of the game and its four routes. It exists, across the board, within the stories the game is trying to tell.
For me, CF feels far more invested in the ideas of autonomy, freewill, humanity, and choice. That the overarching theme is aligned with the freedom to be your own individual and the right to make your own choices based on that freedom. The ethos of Edelgard’s final speech is the right for humanity to choose its own path. (I can explain all of this in another text post: trust me I want to talk about Edelgard’s final speech.)
But, this is how I largely interpret CF: it’s that strong emphasis of humanity’s freedom and it’s no surprise how Byleth’s heartbeat ties into that.
As far as I’m aware, Byleth’s heartbeat situation isn’t addressed in the other three routes. It’s set up in White Clouds and promptly abandoned. (which is a staple of the game; that’s just how it rolls. You’re not going to get everything on your first time through.) It’s loosely alluded to, but there’s no real pay-off outside of CF. You can outright tell Dorothea Byleth’s heart doesn’t beat, but she won’t believe you. When it comes to Claude or Rhea, you learn more about the nature of Byleth’s birth rather than address the nature of their heart. Given how strongly it is emphasized in Jeralt’s journal, the game wants you to pay attention to it.
For CF, the heartbeat becomes a symbol of Byleth’s humanity. At the very beginning of the game, they’re considered a demon by the people around them and the mercenaries within Jeralt’s company. In the eyes of the church, they’re seen as a figurehead or the second-coming of Seiros/Sothis. (Read that section in the Book of Seiros and tell me that’s not what the devs were trying to do). They rarely get to just be Byleth outside of whatever house you pick. A lot of Byleth’s interactions and relationships with other characters centers on the internal conflict of Byleth being understood as themselves. With CF it’s double because of all of the narrative implications Edelgard brings. All of those details and traits that characterize Byleth often get buried or go unnoticed.
So, what does this mean in the context of the music? “A World for Humanity” is musically reflecting the journey Byleth would’ve undergone during the course of CF. The heartbeat motif is no longer buried within the composition of the music, it’s free to be its own distinct sound. Which brings me to a detail I’ve been neglecting to mention up until this point: Edelgard is the first person to HEAR Byleth’s heartbeat.
During this scene, the heartbeat motif shifts from a non diegetic percussion to an in-universe diegetic sound. It breaks free from the composition of the music and becomes real. It’s no longer just symbolic of Byleth, it very much is Byleth. And what is the immediate reaction to that in-universe shift?
Edelgard starts crying for the first time in who knows how many years out of joy. Byleth comes-to listening to her basically be the happiest she’s ever been because Byleth is alive. Their hair shifts back to its original color and they open their eyes to show they’re once again blue. The end card further adds to this transition, explaining that Byleth has lost their connection with the progenitor god’s powers. They’re just human and the music, alongside the characters, celebrates that humanity.
And I find that to be really neat.

Also I love me a depressed girl who doesn't love herself, and a carefree, easy-going girl who shows her how to love herself. There's just so much potential angst that gets my heart racing. Marianne hating herself, Hilda trying to convince her she's lovable, all the fighting with the chance of one getting hurt before the other was able to confess, Marianne going the Black Eagles route and standing face to face with Hilda on the battlefield, Marianne's potential to turn into a monster (that the game didn't do anything about 😒) and Hilda being a monsterfucker showing her she still deserves love.
Also there's the 'I don't mind if it's for you' vibe that they both have. Hilda putting in the work for Marianne (she even says this in canon in the game), and Marianne putting in the work to love herself for Hilda.
Also just... Hilda thinking it was a simple teenage crush, and then seeing Marianne again after 5 years and seeing how she's blossomed into this beautiful young woman and realizing shit... It wasn't a simple crush. Hilda actually having something she takes seriously because she doesn't wanna mess this up. She's already afraid of disappointing other people, which is why she has the motto 'why do it myself and fuck up, if I can let someone else do it better?'. But with Marianne, she's even more afraid because she actually wants to do things good for her.
Also their colors look like cotton candy and it's really cute

Unhinged Azure Gleam RW ideas
Alright, FE3H musing time again.
I've been floating a bunch of ideas for a hypothetical rewrite of Azure Gleam. Trying to summarise it in neat paragraph is proving harder for me than I thought it would so I'll just bullet-point drop all the ideas I had in rough chronological order:
Keeping a big focus on Dimitri's viewpoint of "Reform Over Revolution". In the official game, this is brought up a few times early on but basically dropped just as soon as the Western Lords arc wraps and the mindcontrol nonsense begins.
Cleobulus is the end villain, usurping Thales as leader of the Agarthans. Her tactics end up being much more chaotic and violent but with a greater cost to TWSITD's numbers. Odesse would act as her version of Myson, Kronya would also be given a bit more prominence (cuz who doesn't wanna see Agarthan Girlies having a bit of fun?)
In keeping with this, I really want to explore the idea of Dimitri and Edelgard forming a truce to take down TWSITD. It'll take some contriveances admittedly, but hear me out.
I'd keep Part 1's layout and premise roughly the same but with a lot of specifics changed. I’m juggling whether to keep Rufus alive for longer, or to just make Kleinman more prominent later on in his place.
The Western Lords are given more explanation of their motives for betraying Lambert, the specifics of his supposed reforms are explored more instead of just aluded to. Even if its a retread of the case with Ionius and the Insurrection of the Seven, that'd be better than the complete nothingness we get of it in the final game par Viscount Elidure's one line about the subject.
Rather than dying in Elidure’s territory like she does in the official route, Cleobulus retreats to Arianrhod where a three-way battle between in the invading Empire led by Edelgard, the remnants of the Western Lords (represented primarily by Count Rowe here, still being kept on a leash by Cleobulus) and Dimitri’s pursuing forces ensues.
The Western Coalition would be snuffed out here, with them no longer of use to her Cleobulus finally ditches her Cornelia skinsuit.
During the fighting Edelgard is badly wounded, prompting Thales to try his "mind-control" ploy from the official game (or maybe he's just going for the kill here, whatever works best). He is stopped by Hubert, who is mortally wounded in a vicious exchange covering Edelgard and the Empire's retreat. This would effectively be a mirror of Ingrid's death in Scarlet Blaze, but with a much bigger impact on the Empire's military capabilities.
Thales himself is badly injured and warps away, leaving him exhausted. Cleobulus uses this as an oppurtunity to finish the old man off and claim leadership of the Agarthans.
From here the Empire is left to lick its wounds, as a much more violent version of Ludwig's attempted coup from Scarlet Blaze occurs. Likewise the Kingdom is suddenly hit with more Slithery nonsense as Dimitri tries to recover following the Western Coalition's sabotage.
That's roughly where I got to, but I do have a few more ideas that I'm not sure where to fit/or if they'd work but here we go:
Rhea is pretty much a non-presence in Azure Gleam as is, apart from popping up for expo at a few points she doesn't really do much for the majority of it. I'm floating the idea of her being kidnapped by Cleobulus during Part 2 with the intent of bodysnatching her/using her blood for Slithery reasons. There's a risk with this tho in that I'd basically be changing the Route Damsel from Edelgard to Rhea. That said I do think Rhea needs to be moved out of the way for the potential truce to even remotely work.
Claude's the odd factor here as I'm not sure how exactly I wanna have him play out here. Both of Dimitri's routes handle the Alliance quite lazily imo as both times they end up siding with him, granted AG doesn't just have Claude give the entire faction to him but still.
Thats all I can muster typing up atm. I'll leave ya with a cool drawing of Cleobulus holding Thales' cut sword just to convey the idea of an Agarthan Girlboss end-villain (credit to @card-queen for the art). Please feel free to poke holes in my ideas or offer any suggestions of your own for this silliness.

Despite the years of relative silence, I actually HAVE been writing, and writing a lot. Most of it just isn't public yet.
September 2021 to January 2023: Planned and outlined a FFXV alternate universe collab with @crazyloststar. (~20,000 words)
January 2023 to present: Started writing the FFXV alternate universe collab. (~76,000 words; 21/36 chapters written; no chapters posted)
January 2023 to August 2023: Took notes for and outlined a FE3H fic about Lysithea returning to Ordelia and dismantling her house, while also being in a long-distance relationship with Claude. (~9,000 words)
September 2023 to present: Started writing the FE3H fic. (~20,000 words; 6/14 chapters written; no chapters posted)
February 2024 to March 2024: Outlined For Some Desperate Glory, a Batman fic where Red Hood kidnaps Bruce Wayne instead of taking over the drug trade. (~7,000 words)
February 2024 to present: Started writing For Some Desperate Glory. (~5,000 words; 1/12 chapters written; 1 chapter posted)

We're nearly done with Act 2 (chapter 25), which we're scheduled to wrap up next month. We'll be doing a massive continuity edit at that point (it's been well over a year since we wrote chapter one), and once that's finished, we're likely going to start approaching artists for commissions.
According to our writing schedule, we'll be drafting the final chapter sometime in November 2024.
We'll likely start posting before then, but that's going to depend on art and how closely we stick to the writing schedule. We liked being able to post every week with BoD and don't want to risk having to delay a chapter because we're behind.
You'll likely start seeing chapters this year, though it's incredibly likely we'll still be posting in 2025 given its length.
FE3H Lysithea dismantles her house
I'm obsessed with Lysithea's canon ending with Claude, couldn't find anything on AO3 that addressed it, and so here I am, writing it myself.
Also stealing other shit from other endings, but please note--this is essentially the aftermath of a no-recruitment run. It's Golden Deer, with cameos and occasional mentions of other Church-aligned folks.
Claude is off in Almyra for almost the entire fic; here's hoping you're into long-distance relationships when mail delivery takes ages and is not as reliable as the USPS.
I need to get through Act 2 (chapter 9) and do a continuity edit there before I feel comfortable posting.
You'll start seeing chapters this year; maybe late summer-ish. I should be able to get this off my plate this year.
For Some Desperate Glory (Batman fic)
The first chapter is up because I was extra excited and feeling reckless and wanted to get something up the first half of the year when everything else is still months out from being public.
I've gotten my hands on the deluxe version of the UTRH comic; aiming to read it this month. This is likely to cause some additional outline revisions; the chapter count may actually go down--we'll see.
This is the one fic I plan to post chapters as they're finished; the narrative structure is different from the two other projects and won't require continuity checks/overhauls at a specific point.
Hoping to have the entire fic done and up this year. Wish me luck!

I wanna hear about "Noir!"
Okay. *rolls up sleeves* I hope you're comfortable, because this is a journey of epic ambition that goes through the deepest, darkest forms of denial and procrastination. For now it's contained and just passes for doable, but oh man. Like a parasite in my head it can transform into a monster at the drop of a hat.
In its first, baby incarnation, this was going to be an FE3H fic. I had just finished playing Supergiant Games' Transistor and I was absolutely in love with the look and feel and art of it all. I had this image of Dorothea as Red, a singer who'd lost her voice and was looking for someone (Byleth). She joins a private detective (Yuri) initially following a lead on an unsolved murder (Jeralt's death) and the big sprawling city of Fodlan unfolds before them.
The Empire was an 'old money' business empire. The Alliance was an alliance of 'new money'-types with questionable and shady reasons for their success. The Kingdom was 'old money' former mafia that had renounced its former ways and was now, with the blessing of the region's church, struggling to do good but was constantly being dragged back down by its past. -- Anyway, at this point, it became a monster and I just. Cried and couldn't. Not by myself. I entertained the idea of recruiting other authors to help me world-build this, create a collection of stories that could co-habit this AU and eventually merge into a climactic showdown (Byleth is found and we decide which route the ending will take). But, again, the ambition was too great and my commitment plus activity in the fandom not strong enough. So it languished.
But god the aesthetics! I couldn't just walk away from it. I wanted it. I needed to create something with it. And if I couldn't wrangle it into something feasible within FE3H, well, maybe I just needed to change the fandom?
So it entered it's second incarnation in a second fandom with a narrower scope. I call it: Kakashi x Sakura (Spy/Assassin Secret Society) Noir.
Prelude to the storm was my pilot run using the 2022 Wumptober prompt 'Lost Voice' and kksk event prompt 'Swapped'.
This. This was doable. This... could manifest into a real fic!
But as I tried to flesh out an outline, ambition once more got the better of me. Inclusion of any kind of Uchiha clan-related plot just explodes the story arc, you know? And anything that looks like it'll be more than +50K is daunting to even think about. I had recently lost the luxury of all-night binge writing (it isn't good for my health or sanity). So I had to shelf the idea for a year.
I'm now in a more stable and confident (accepting) frame of mind and... so what if it might end up over 50K? Or, worse, end up perpetually unfinished? It's a concept and theme I seem to keep coming back to. So one of my 2024 resolutions is to finally start writing this.
I still haven't quite pinned down the vibe of the story, but I'm leaning heavily into this cut scene from Transistor and Halsey's If I can't have love I want power album. Specifically, these lyrics:

3, 5, 18 for the Fire Emblem asks?
*cracks knuckles* only a couple weeks late (edit: longer than a couple weeks I REPEAT LONGER THAN A COUPLE WEEKS) let’s do this
3. Any criticisms about your favorite game, or anything you would change?
Hmmm let me see… it’s been a while since I last played fe3h so there’s probably a few gripes I’ve forgotten about, but here’s some off the top of my head:
I’m probably the thousandth person to make this criticism, and I won’t go on about it as long as I could, but the dissonance between “haha look at funny girl she scream and cry and run away” and “yeah hi im actually this way because I was Horribly Abused” in Bernadetta’s supports makes the former hard to watch sometimes. Often times I’m just kind of sad and uncomfortable for her when the game is clearly trying to be funny. There's some nuance here of course, and I could go into more detail on a good day, but I've been sitting on this paragraph for *checks notes* nearly 2 months so. Good enough.
Considering that you're meant to replay significant portions of the game multiple times between all the routes, I really wish there was just a tiny bit more variety in the map designs and objectives. Cindered Shadows some gets credit for addressing this (A Harrowing Escape my beloved/beloathed).
5. Which titles have you played?
I got into the series through Awakening, and since then I’ve played Three Houses, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Sacred Stones (got close to the end but never finished oops), and Shadow Dragon (only played the first map so it barely counts)! I've played both Warriors games too, if that counts, and I've been playing Heroes since launch. And we can't forget about my favorite Fire Emblem game, Super Smash Bros.
18. Do you have any special stories related to the series?
It's not much of a story, but during my most recent Awakening Hard Mode run, I decided to use Donnel (who I had never properly invested in before this playthrough) and promote him to Hero. By Chapter 11 he was already basically my champion, but he officially cemented himself in that role when he got a perfectly-timed crit and finished off Gangrel with a triumphant YEEEEHAW
