Perfect Marriage Revenge (2023) Episode 5

At first i thought this drama wasn't going to be good but i was wrong it's one of the most amazing drama i have seen this year.

I love the cast and the leading actors are really talented.

I'm loving the way their relationship is developping even if, it all started with a marriage contract.

I can't wait for them to get married and to see how all of this is going to turn out.

The story line is so great. Waiting for ep 6 tomorrow.

DRAMA REVIEW | Perfect Marriage Revenge (2023)

There’s an argument to be made about how Perfect Marriage Revenge had a perfect execution because it was a 12 episodes long drama and didn’t waste time for unnecessary conflicts. Everything took its right time and was resolved in a cohesive way with the characters development.

Both leads were compelling and had amazing chemistry, but the secondary characters were equally interesting to watch. All the performances outstanding and you can tell the actors are enjoying themselves in their respective roles.

On a story about a woman looking for revenge against her own family, this kdrama had a perfect balance between makjang and romcom. Making it an easy and fun watch. I highly recommend it!

Moon Embracing the Sun (episodes 1 - 20)

Just because somebody doesn’t love you the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t love you with everything they have.

Which love is stronger? The one you fight for or the one you give way for? Is love a contest to be won?

While Moon Embracing the Sun is a period drama about the love story between the Crown Prince (later, King) and his first love who were tragically separated by forces beyond their control, there was another tragic love story in the background of this show that caught my attention (and perhaps, it caught my attention because of the irony or because it was frustratingly agonising).

Yoo Heom (played by Im Si-wan, later Song Jae-hee), was the epitome of brilliance as a top-ranking scholar who becomes tutor to the Crown Prince. However, despite his brilliance, Heom was doomed, unable to reach his true potential and unable to recognise the person he has been searching for due to his blissful ignorance of things outside of books and knowledge. Yoo Heom was the brilliant scholar who had no idea.

Unbeknownst to Heom, he attracted the sights of the childishly innocent and pampered Princess Minhwa (played by Jin Ji-hee, later Nam Bo-ra). However, Minhwa’s love was meant to be unrequited as her wishes to marry Heom fell on deaf ears. The King knew that he could never fulfill the wishes of his beloved daughter, as doing so would clip the wings of Heom and prevent him from becoming a loyal advisor to the Crown Prince. The King, who wanted his only daughter to be happy, ignored her tears without realising the desperation of Princess Minhwa.

But Minhwa’s youthful naivety would be taken advantage of. Her pure love for Heom was used as a weapon to hurt Heom and the people he loved. Her love for him became the reason for the death of Heom’s only sister and the fall from grace of the Yoo family. Princess Minhwa got the one thing she wished for, to be married to Heom, at the cost of lives. And in the course of fulfilling her love for him, Minhwa kept a great secret from him.

Seol (played by Seo Ji-hee, later Yoon Seung-ah) is a servant of the Heom family, responsible for caring for Heom’s younger sister who considered Seol her own family. But not only did Seol love her young mistress who treated her like an equal, she also admired from afar the young master who gave Seol her name and treated her with gentleness and kindness. Seol knew her admiration could never result in love because the difference between the two was too great. Instead of yearning for her young master, Seol did the only thing she could do - follow his wishes to protect his younger sister even in her death. And in the course of fulfilling his wish to protect his sister, Seol kept a great secret from him.

For the duration of 13 years, Heom remained ignorant to secrets that were kept from him. Meanwhile, Minhwa kept her secret from her husband in fear that Heom would leave her if her secret was revealed; and Seol continued to watch her former young master from afar while keeping her secret, knowing that revealing the secret would endanger the person Heom asked her to protect.

It was only after Minhwa watched her husband cry over his younger sister’s death that she realised what her love for him cost him. However, despite it all, Minhwa did not regret her choices knowing that her choice led to her love. Minhwa fought for her love, even if it meant destroying others. For Minhwa, the end justified the means.

On the other hand, Seol watched her young master grieve his sister’s death, unknown to him that the person he mourned is alive. She couldn’t comfort him with the truth, in order to keep her promise to him. And at the end of it all, Seol sacrificed her own life for Heom’s happiness, even if she knew such sacrifice could never result in her love being fulfilled. For Seol, her last regret was that she couldn't fulfill her promise to Heom to protect his beloved sister until the end.

Was Princess Min-hwa’s love stronger because she fought for it? Or was it less true because she fought at the expense of those she should have cared for?

Was Seol’s love stronger because she protected him from afar? Or was it less true because she gave way instead of fighting?

I do not think there is an answer. Minhwa and Seol are opposite sides of the same coin. Princess Minhwa and Seol chose to love the same person in different ways and in the end, they loved without regret.

Perfect Marriage Revenge

This series is based on the webtoon with the same name. I read the webtoon before watching the series and I must say that I liked the adaptation. It didn't drag the situations, the changes they made worked and I liked the story line.

I liked this series.

Jin I Soo and Lee Ganghyun go from bickering like kids to comforting each other at their lowest. Ganghyun goes from telling him to go home to texting him to come to the station because they got a new case. Ganghyun takes Jin I Soo to her comfort place so that he can clear his mind after learning the truth about his mother's death. I Soo saying "You trust your father, and I trust you" to Lee Ganghyun when she was on probation and desperately wanted to prove that her father was innocent and that he was framed. Ganghyun scolding him because he put himself in danger and I soo trying not to repeat that. And most importantly what about the fact when they almost drowned together while trying to arrest Bori?? What are you gon say about Jin I soo cupping her face and telling her to believe in herself when she told him that she couldn't swim ??? Carrying her over the water the entire time she was unconscious while he was struggling to breathe and stay over the water himself. Are the writers really going to do us like that?? T_T

P.S : Jin I Soo being jealous over Park Junyoung and Lee Ganghyun and then asking Junyoung if they shared any feelings or ever dated and then getting flustered on being asked if he liked Ganghyun was the cutest thing everrr.

Let's try to manifest a world where some of the biggest Korean actresses were cast in major full-length GL kdramas.

COP + CRIMINAL

Esom (Because This Is My First Life) and Lee Da-hee (Search: WWW) play partners and besties, who both fall for their respective suspects for a crime spree against the patriarchy. (Think: Evening the pay gap at a major company; exposing scandals of sexist politicians; and chemically castrating sex offenders). Esom's love interest is Park Eun-bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), and Da-hee's love interest is Seo Yea-ji (It's Okay to Not Be Okay). It's a romantic crime thriller.

FRIENDS to LOVERS

Seol In-ah (Business Proposal) plays a new-money rich girl who hires a former old-money rich girl, played by Yoo In-na (Touch Your Heart), to be her personal assistant out of pity, but pretends she doesn't know her backstory. And Yoo helps Seol navigate rich society. Their conflict is that Seol's family bankrupted Yoo's family, and is getting the life Yoo was supposed to have, including the fiancee, the job, and the house. It's a sweet romantic comedy.

BOSS + EMPLOYEE

Kim Ji-won (Fight My Way) starts a job at a family law firm and works hard to get one of the partners, played by Son Ye-jin (Crash Landing on You), to be her mentor, but only because she wants her job. She starts off as a frenemie before Ye-Jin's hard edges rub off, and Ji-won develops a crush. Their obstacles are that Ye-Jin is married and in the closet, and Ji-won might be too ambitious to let go of her goals. It's a slow-burn romantic legal drama.

COOL GIRL + DORK

Park Shin-hye (Heirs & Pinocchio) plays a cold fashion house designer who hires an unlikely candidate to be her muse, played by Moon Ga-young (True Beauty). And what starts off as a toxic relationship blooms into a supportive one. Park Bo-young (Strong Girl Bong-soon) plays her head of design, who befriends Ga-young's bestie-turned-manager, played by Kim Seul-gi (Oh My Ghostess). They're the softer side couple. It's a romantic workplace dramedy.

FRIENDS to ENEMIES to LOVERS

Seo Hyun-jin (Why Her?) and Gong Hyo-jin (When the Camellia Blooms) were friends in college, but they had a falling out after a misunderstanding about a guy. They have a tense reunion as adults when Hyo-jin is setting up her nuptials at the wedding hall Hyun-jin manages. It's a slowburn romantic drama.

ONE-SIDED OBSESSION

Shin Min-a (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) plays the wife of a very powerful and abusive man and Hwang Jung-eum (She Was Pretty) plays the maid who is secretly in love with her and helps her escape. They go to Jung-eum's hometown where everyone assumes she's bringing her girlfriend home for the first time, because she didn't have the heart to tell them she got dumped after running away to be with her. Min-a decides to pretend to be the woman to pay her back, and they fall in love. The conflict being when Jung-eum's ex, played by Park Min-young (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim), returns to get her back.

Kang Sora as Oh Hara and Jung Seungjo as Goo Eun Beom in Strangers Again: the story ruined everything

Lee Jaewook as Baek Kyung and Kim Hye Yoon as Eun Dan Oh in Extraordinary You:only if Baek Kyung wasn't written as a red flag by the manhwa writer

Jeon Doyeon as Gil Bok Soon and Koo Kyo hwan as Han Hee Seong in Kill Bok Soon: the storyline was good for a crime thriller but unfortunate for them

Moon Sangmin as Lee Jihan and Jeon Jong Seo as Na Ah Jung in Wedding Impossible :they get happy ending but the storyline was messy imo

Lee Jaewook as Han Tae Oh and Choi Hee Jin as Kang Hee Joo in The Impossible Heir : yall know why. Everything in this drama was messed up except the chemistry between these two actors

Ki Do Hoon as Yangcha and Kim Ji Won as Tanya in Arthdal Chronicles: basically Kim Ji Won has chemistry with everyone she acts alongside

Lee Jae In as Lee Yoon Seo and Cha Woo Min as Ko Kyung Jun in Night Has Come: honestly I didn't even consider them before I saw all those edits on YT

Go Youn Jung as Jung Jisoo and Seo In Guk as Kim Seong Hyeop in Death's Game: even the smallest moments between them was enough to establish how beautiful chemistry they had

Lee Dohyun as Go Chang Myung and IU as Jang Man Wol in Hotel Del Luna: one of the best pairings in a KDrama to exist
