dream to fly

In my dream, I stride along a narrow path, right towards a cliff, where the abyss is too deep to fall and still survive.

As I reach the cliffs’ edge, I look down upon an eerie darkness. Yet, I still step closer towards where my feet would no longer touch stone, where I would fall.

I take a deep breath, closing my eyes as the sweet scent of morning fills my nostrils, and leap.

The air is cold against my skin, almost painfully cold, as I tumble through the air towards the darkness. If this was not my dream, I would have hit the earth beneath and never opened my eyes again.

Instead, I spread my wings wide. I can feel how the wind runs along the soft feathers, gently lifting me up and away from the nearing abyss.

In my dream, I can fly.

When I open my eyes at last, the sky is painted in orange and pink. And the sun, just barely risen, holds the promise of a new day.
