Starter for @devilsplit !! (Slight DMC5 Spoilers)

“Nope. Nuthin’ but blue skies all the way...”

The devil slayer walked along the riverside railing, looking deeply into the skies above. Taking his hands from his pockets, he drew posed his index and thumbs into a square, like a photographer trying to take the perfect shot.

“No ceiling, no roof, no foreboding cloud of demons... nuthin’. Got a feeling I picked up the wrong ticket for this one. What a boring tourist trap...”

Last thing he remembered was jumping from atop the Qliphoth to, you know, prevent the demon world from engulfing the human. No biggie. But this... wasn’t the demon world. Nor was there any sign of his brother.

“Vergil, Vergil, Vergil...” He chuckled. “If this was your grand plan, well done, you’ve outplayed me. For now, anyway.”

He drew his finger canvas back earthward, examining the surroundings about him. The temple gardens seemed the perfect place for some sudden demon attacks, but alas, this garden seemed to be breaking the mould. Yawning, his gaze wondered a bit longer before it rested on a raven in the distance, seeming to be staring at him.

“What’s up, little chicken? Waiting for something to happen too, huh?”

The raven began to open it’s mouth as if to rebut, but was swiftly silenced by a quick-drawn nerf dart lodging in its throat. As Dante began to regret ammunition he might not get back, he noticed the bird sounded like it was... choking. Like, human choking. He tilted his head for a moment... before he realised.

Holstering his weapons, he dashed over and grabbed the bird’s neck, not to help regurgitate it, but to keep it down there.

“Fancy meeting you here, bud! Pleasant day for a fly, huh? Thought you went to chicken heaven already!” He smiled with a hint of maliciousness, but also a hint of concern. “Did Vergil send you? Where is he? He’s not leaving me here to have all the fun himself, is he?”
