What is Islamic Esotericism, and how does it relate to Western Esotericism? Thanks to Liana Saif's work, we delve into Islamic esotericism within the broader context of global esoteric traditions, critically assessing the field's traditional focus on Western esotericism. We scrutinise the foundational role of scholars like Mircea Eliade and Henry Corbin in shaping Western-centric esoteric narratives. The episode addresses key questions: - How has Western-centric scholarship influenced the study of Islamic esotericism? - What are the challenges and implications of integrating Islamic esoteric traditions into a global esoteric framework? - How do cultural, religious, and historical factors intersect in the practice of esotericism across societies? Day#65 // SEE BELOW FOR MORE AFTER SWIPING FOR POST. #100DaysOnSpirituality *This is a Royal “we” frequently used in the Quran. It may be stylistic or perhaps has a particular purpose I don’t know, but I’m noting it here to emphasize that the concept of God in Islam remains clear that God is one and that God does not compare to anyone or anything. **The word “he” here is a literal translation of the Arabic text, and I’m noting it to emphasize that it’s not intentionally used to exclude women. Arabic is a gendered language, similar to Spanish and other languages, and the word “Insaan” for “human” is masculine. In my understanding of the Arabic language, the letters used in the word seem to determine whether it’s masculine or feminine, so I choose not to be offended by this. Out of reverence for the text and my faith in its sanctity, I aim to stay as close to the original Arabic when translating the meaning. The verse mentioned above is from Surat Qaf. This is one of my favorite recitations of it if you’re interested to hear the Arabic words: https://youtu.be/VHdpZ4-nX2Q . #islamicspirituality #quranquotes (at Seville, Spain)

8 Ways to achieve happiness ❤️ (Transcribed from a talk given by Alimah S Ahmed)
Here are 8 scientific ways to achieve happiness according to researchers, interestingly enough our deen has already taught us these ways. 1. Avoid comparison Our deen teaches us: in dunya look at those below you but it deen look at those above you. Even the Quran teaches us this; we shouldn't look at other things or people with eyes of longing. Don't compare yourself to other people instead accept yourself & you'll be able to find the hidden talents that الِلّهِ has blessed you with. Our deen teaches us to be "raazi" (content) with whatever الِلّهِ has given you, & then use what you have to do what you can. 2. Smile even if you don't feel like it. Research says even when you force yourself to smile it releases chemicals that make you feel better. This has been taught to us by our deen already. It's a Sunnah to smile, smiling is a charity. It's a charity because you're making your fellow human beings heart happy. Tip: Good suhba (companionship) good company is so important because good energy and positivity is contagious. When you spend time with happy people you'll feed off their good energy. Even Places have energies. An interesting example: Shopping malls hold a lot of negative energy (greed, materialism, commercialism etc) which is why you usually come back feeling very tired. That's because the negative energy drains you emotionally you feel tired. This is exactly what our deen has taught us that's why the deen teaches us to avoid the bazaars & frequent Masjids 4. Exercise: Salaah is the best form of exercise. If you do it properly with complete khushoo it will be a form of exercise. The physical movement is also part of our ibadah. 5. To make friends & treasure family: Happy people have good, close & supportive relationships. Quality relationships over quantity. Happier people have less superficial friendships & more meaningful ones. Islam teaches us to maintain family ties and be good & kind to our family, neighbours & friends. Life tip: Our best friend should be الِلّهِ Don't let our love for family & friends keep us from reaching الِلّهِ remember our purpose in life is to worship الِلّهِ & be the abd (servant) of الِلّهِ not to be the best mum or best wife etc. As important as that is know your true purpose in life. 6. Say thank you like you mean it According to research people who show gratitude are healthier, happier & progress toward their goals. Our deen shows us the importance of shukr & being grateful. The quran teaches us that if you make shukr الِلّهِ will give you more La in shakartum la azeedanna kum The opposite of shukr is hasad. Don't be jealous of what you don't have because that leads to losing what you have. Tip. "If" is the most demotivating term according to studies. & the Prophet ﷺ already taught us this: if opens the door to shaytan. 7. Give things away Share things & make charity a part of your life. This will lead to "helpers high". Our deen teaches us that the more you give the more you get. When you spend on others الِلّهِ will spend on you. Spend not only your money but also your time, efforts & talents. That's also a charity. This happiness is the wealth of heart. It's a byproduct of your good deeds & it's part of the "more" that الِلّهِ is giving you. The beauty of giving is that the effects of giving lasts forever. A Hadith teaches us to change our perspective, what we give is not lost instead that's what remains & what we keep is what is lost. In terms of reward. 8. Make "money" low on your list of priorities: Research shows that this decreases your depression & anxiety & your self esteem will be boosted. the deen teaches us that money & "dunya" should be a low priority. You need this to survive but make it a low priority in your life. The dunya is a place of deception it's an illusion so if you run after it you'll never be happy & never be able to achieve & catch it. Know that the dunya is just a toy & it's not the real thing. The aakhira is the real thing. So the toys of the dunya won't feed your heart & won't make you happy. Notice how all the points all deal with what you do & not what is done to you.
