     weiss is feeling nervous again. it seems like that’s been happening a lot lately, and after years of believing that she could do no wrong, it’s still an adjustment. of course, no part of her can deny the necessity of getting rid of that one. it’s the reason she’s in this situation, facing a ghost of her past in the first place. weiss’ heels clip against the wood floor as she catches up with ilia in a doorway, and the motion feels entirely too jarring to her. coming to a halt is worse though, that means she needs to speak. 

     she licks her lips. 

     “can we talk? i -- i’m glad you’re well.”

deft fingers rose from where they’d lain across belladonna’s chest,   where they’d folded to the cadence of her heartbeat. there blake had imagined that it was ilia’s touch instead, wished longingly for the feeling of gloved fingers tracing the columns of her neck. heady flush and an uncomfortable squirm prompted feline turn onto other side, trying not to let her imagination run from her, bounding, leaping, in defiant protest to memorise the shape of iridescent’s lips. it hadn’t been enough to simply hug her goodbye. would it ever be enough   ?   as far as blake was concerned, so long as she haunted the tepid mind scape before she - umbra’s dreams, it would never be enough. and so with cruel irony her scroll flashed with that ill - timed message, just as the last signal bars connecting the airship to argus’ tower would flash, flash, flash, and then disconnect. molten hue cast towards the strip of window pane in the passenger hold, a ribbon of sky and lonely moon streaming past like a river of midnight, wondering if ilia was gazing at it too.

ilia shipped ruby a tiny package. inside the box was a recruitment pamphlet that ilia has been working on. "show this to blake" was written on a sticky note on the pamphlet. what took up the bulk of the package though was one of ilia's new black jackets — & she'd already worn it, so she hoped her scent was still on it.

Ruby had sent word to Ilia the moment they arrived in Argus. She hadn’t exactly told her that they left the train to walk through the freezing north of Anima. She of course apologized in her letter and told her everything that had transpired. She sent the letter with the fastest delivery and hoped something would arrive before they left.

She was surprised when a package arrived for her, with perfect timing to boot. They were supposed to be stealing the air ship tomorrow and to say that she was nervous was an understatement. Ruby’s hands took the pamphlet carefully in her hands, tugging the note off with a smile before flipping through it. It had come out wonderfully, and she couldn’t be more proud of her girlfriend’s handiwork. 

Setting it aside, Ruby pulled out the black blob, causing it to instantly unfold. Ilia’s new jacket. Her heart skipped a beat, carefully hugging to close to her. It was soft, and while cold from being shipped, she could feel a warmth blooming inside her chest. Tears welled in her eyes as she toppled over sideways on her bed, burying her face in the material and breathing slowly. It was an acceptable substitute for her girlfriend.

“I miss you..“ Ruby muttered softly, not even trying to stop her tears.

@iridissent is one of the most creative, the most dedicated, one of the kindest people in this community I've ever met. Blue is so lovely. Speaking to her, when we're plotting, joking about, or speaking about the menial brings a constant smile to my face. She is truly an inspiration and I am blessed to have been able to write, and befriend her.

‘   …   i don’t sell these at all.   ’   ren had a cup of said health juice in hand, some had been poured into another cup for ilia in the kitchen of the mistrali safe house, but only enough to act as a small sampler. they weren’t even sure what they’d been thinking when they’d constructed this drink   (   there’s bitter melons, green apples, tumeric and pineapples there   )   but it was missing a certain   …   punch. maybe ginger. ginger always helped. they’d lost their edge having been away from a blender all these months travelling. they had their back to the counter, regarding fellow reptile occasionally but keeping their eyes on the knife and ginger stub in hand while they peeled it. dragon shrugged, their head tilting curiously.   ‘   it was hard enough for me to get people to try them, let alone sell them.   ’
