African Burial Ground. Walk through lower Manhattan, on Duane Street, and you will come across a unique burial ground amongst all the high-rise buildings that surround it. The African Burial Ground is a unique memorial that is dedicated to all the African slaves who created a sacred space to bury their loved ones. It also acknowledges the role slavery played in helping build this city while recognizing their heritage and the hardship they had to endure. While the memorial is now set on a tiny piece of plot, it wasn't so then. In the 17th and 18th centuries, this site was spread across six acres of land in what was then an isolated part of Manhattan. It is to this hidden burial ground that these Africans came, in secret, to bury their dead, forge new friendships, and share stories, music, faith, and traditions. It was forgotten for more than a hundred years until its discovery in 1991 when the city was excavating the area for a new building. It is around this small corner that the remains of 419 men, women, and children were discovered. If one were to account for all of the six acres, imagine the total number of remains that lie undiscovered. _________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs _________________________________________ All within your reach 🇺🇲 #allwithinyourreach #VisitTheUSA #UnitedStories #OutdoorsUSA #seeyourcity #AllInNYC #ItsTimeForNYC #YesNY #ISpyNY _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #nationalpark #nationalparks #urbanparks #cityparks #FindYourPark #BlackHistory #newyorkcity #manhattan #lowermanhattan #downtownmahattan #newyorkers #picturesofnewyork #instagramnyc #nycskyline #newyork_instagram #online_newyork #instragramnyc #newyorklife #NYClife #nycinstagram (at African Burial Ground National Monument) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRdR26FsTK-/?utm_medium=tumblr

A giant among the trees: One World Trade Center (1WTC), Lower Manhattan NYC. Did you know that at the beginning of construction, The One World Trade Center was called “Freedom Tower”? The complex was built where the original World Trade Center was located. In addition, its height has a meaning; the total height with the antenna is 1,776 Sqft that represents the year of The United States Declaration of Independence, without the antenna its height is the same as the original towers. The complex has an observatory, a museum, a memorial, an art center, and a Shopping mall. When traveling to #NYC this is a MUST, you can see this giant and take awesome pictures in several parts of the city. #travelpics #ThisIsNewYorkCity #nyc #newyork #ilovenewyork #instragramnyc #newyorkcity #prettycitynewyork #newyorkarea #nycityworld #nybucketlist #beautiful_manhattan #newyork_ig #MySecretNYC #travelingtroughtheworld #TLPicks #TravelAwesome #bestvacations #usa (en One World Trade Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6KCyxIBlJ3/?igshid=1bwbbkrbxphf7

The Henry Hudson Bridge. This is the bridge that spans the Spuyten Duyvil Creek, connecting uptown Manhattan with the Bronx. While more than 70,000 vehicles pass over the bridge daily, it was never meant to be a thoroughfare. Instead, it was meant for a leisurely drive on weekends. Try and tell that to the cab driver the next time. The bridge was designed by David B Steinman and was initially proposed in 1904, and scheduled to be completed in 1909. However, like all good things in life, it took more than 30 years, before it was finally thrown open to traffic, in 1936. And just in case you are wondering why it took so long, well, let's point a wagging finger at the kind folks of Spuyten Duyvil who were adamant that the 'virgin forest' of Inwood Hill Park should not be destroyed. Good for them, I say. ________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs www.nofixedaddress.in _________________________________________ All within your reach 🇺🇲 #allwithinyourreach @nycgo #seeyourcity  _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #inwoodhillpark #henryhudsonbridge  #landscapephotography #landscape #inwood #manhattan #newyorkcity #nyc #thebronx #hiddennyc #inwood #inwoodhillpark #cityscape #nycparks #loves_reflections #what_i_saw_in_nyc #loves_nyc #tv_bridges #newyorker #park #nycity #newyorklife #nycphotography #picturesofnewyork #instragramnyc #newyork_instagram #online_newyork (at Inwood) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF17w2Ys9qj/?igshid=1dpmf11cfqlj5

Moment. I'm in a New York state of mind. If life was as we knew it before March 2020, I'd be in NYC right now. Catching up with friends, going for long drives, checking out new restaurants and pubs, and generally making a nuisance of myself. In a nice way. Sigh! The times we now live in. Yup, I'm in a New York state of mind.  ________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs www.nofixedaddress.in _________________________________________ All within your reach 🇺🇲 #allwithinyourreach @centralparknyc #centralparknyc #myCentralPark @nycgo #seeyourcity  _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity #manhattan #ny #usa #centralpark #centralparknyc #bigapple #newyorker #park #nycity #centralparkmoments #newyorklife #nycphotography #nylove #nuevayork #ilovenyc #picturesofnewyork #instragramnyc #nycskyline #manhattan #newyork_instagram #i❤ny #online_newyork (at Belvedere Castle) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEELmhPsX6D/?igshid=8shenjbvfdfp

The Universal Soldier Aside from panoramic views that Battery Park City offers, there’s plenty more to see and appreciate in the park, if you will go look for it. One of them is the Universal Soldier. Built in 1991, this 15-foot black granite memorial, with a cutout of an American soldier, is a tribute to the military soldiers who fought in the Korean War. Each year, on July the 27th, at 10am, the sun shines through the soldier's head and lights up the plaque at the base. That was the day, in 1953, when a ceasefire came into effect between the two Koreas. It’s designed such that you can see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from one side of the cutout. However, a better and more interesting view is of the skyscrapers with the trees from the other side. You can read more on the blog.
