Buying the Wii U version of a game I already own from another country because it came with the Wii version that apparently plays differently just the see the endboss because the different control sceme on the 3DS is screwing with gameplay

HELP THE GAME TURNED INTO A KID ICARUS UPRISING FLYING SECTION BUT IN SPACE

(…pretty sure I bought this game thinking it was a kiu clone, actually. Guess I wasn’t too far off after all XD)

…so apparently said 3min section was just the intro of the level. Ouch.

Nvm it was the entire level, the end part is just exploration to find all secret medals (honesty half-expected that I‘d have to catch them mid-flight, so this is pretty chill)

What do you mean I have enough medals to unlock upgrading my stats to level 9 half of these never got off level 1-

Aaaand I just remembered why I didn’t play this game since December. The next level took me 23min. Reminds me of Hyrule Warriors- fun while playing but man am I exhausted once the chapter‘s over. Also there’s a hidden island up there I had no idea how to reach, not sure if it’s a remnant or the Wii version that had unlimited flying stamina or just a secret- so hello second try…later. Maybe.

Y‘all ever spontaneously continue a game you haven’t played in 8 months only to forget what the buttons do while it starts on a boss? Fun times

Randomly picked up a 3DS game called “Rodea: The sky soldier” because it peaked my interest (and was cheap) and plated the first two chapters so far

Warning: Opinions listed here might change when I get further in the game!

The controls need some time to get used to (horribly simplified, it’s basically Sonic’s homing attack: the game. You jump, aim where you wanna go, and fly there, plus your attack is literally a Sonic spin dash/homing attack.)

The music is surprisingly nice, it fits that whole “floating islands in the sky” vibe and I like the “fantasy sky kingdom with robots but not steampunk” theme the game seems to have

The character designs I’ve seen so far are nice too, same for their personalities (though I’d be joking if I said they were fleshed out in any way)

The gameplay (being tied to the controls) consists of mostly flying, to explore the islands, collect stuff, defeat enemies, find hidden doors and bosses, and lots of jumping from/to the ground and walls

(I have no idea how I managed to find not one, but two dualscreen handheld games about jumping high a lot that also have nice soundtracks)

But the highlight is the voice acting and cutscenes

...They’re not the best. In fact, they’re giving me Sonic 06/Adventure vibes sometimes. But they’re good in that “it’s not good but not annoying and maybe enjoyable in a charming kids cartoon way” way yknow?

In fact, the whole game feels that way so far

It’s giving me that really charming vibe of a game I would have played to death back on my DSi even though I wouldn’t understand even half of what’s going on or how it functions, just having a good time with a game that’s really no masterpiece but still enjoyable for me, or a dub of an anime show on a kids channel with a simple (slightly overdramatic) fantasy plot, simple but (mostly) likable characters and a simple nice adventure to have

That type of of “not good but still enjoyable for me” y’know?

To summarize: It’s by no means a 10/10 game (I’d give it a 5-6/10 I think) and you’re not missing out on anything great, but if you can tolerate weird controls and enjoy games/shows like I described above why not check it out? And if you don’t like it, it’s pretty cheap anyway so you didn’t loose anything, which basically means you can’t go wrong!

There’s a dark souls boss in this game

^that was literally my first thought seeing the first boss

It’s a giant ‘ruin guard from genshin’-looking colossus whose face I swear looks way too much like the ‘Mask of the Child’ head armor from Dark Souls

So that’s cool
