I've always wondered why so many governments keep investing tons of money into those stupid solar roadways projects when it makes 0 sense to anyone with a brain, but I just realized that it makes sense why this happens.

More and more funding is going into green energy and more and more people are wanting to see their government taking direct action to do something about green energy. There's money to be spent, but facilities require land that the government in most locations doesn't have, but they do have shittons of roads, so the most hassle free way of producing green electricity is to throw down solar panels in the one place they have complete control of the land, and then they get to claim that they are on the cutting edge of the science to appease their voters

#i guess they choose making the roads solar instead of covering the roads because that would be too mundane or something #even though it would be infinitely cheaper more productive and require barely any maintenance #if you did that though youd have boomers complaining that they like the sun in their eyes or rain obscuring their vision or snow on the roa #just put a cover at normal road sign height with solar panels on top put lights on the bottom and heaters in the panels to melt snow #then you keep the roads much more dry and snow free so they will be way safer and will degrade slower #once every so often send out crews to clean the panels so they stay productive #and you get like 20 years of life out of them #it will really cut down on light pollution near roads too #you wont have headlights or street lights that light up the whole sky #noise pollution too by reflecting the sound back down to the road #and you can more effectively light the roads instead of shitty streetlights that are a mile in the sky and are essentially omnidirectional #there arent too many downsides to covering the roads and putting solar panels on them #other than it not being high tech enough and kinda ugly #but roads are already ugly as fuck #so might as well get use out of them
