have i ever mentioned that the silly idol stan is actually a classically trained ballerina. oops. this got long but i had a blast with it <3

If there’s a genre that has accompanied Mizuki throughout her life (haunted, even) that has to be ballet. She started learning ballet almost before she even started walking, with her mother (a professional ex-ballerina) as a teacher. And she found it so fun, so magical. Wearing pretty outfits and spinning around and around.

When ballet stopped being fun and turned into a profession, she didn’t seem to like it as much.

As a kid you don’t really get much of an option on what hobbies to develop and even if she had opposed back at the time nothing would have really changed. She was good at ballet, almost a little too much. And no one becomes professional just by resting and lazing around.

Old injuries heal, bad times are forgotten. At the end of the day it helped her more than it harmed her and it was the whole reason she could grow slightly closer to her mother, so she can’t really resent it too much. She likes ballet after all.

There is something special in being able to wear pointe shoes and dance so beautifully from time to time, even if she has lost so much shape after not practising anywhere as hard anymore. It’s difficult to keep developing a skill when the person that loved it the most pushed you aside...

Looking back in time, Mizuki regards ballet as something that allowed her to set up the bases to learn many different styles. She has a very good sense of balance, strength and is incredibly conscious of how she looks on stage. Being awfully flexible is an extra bonus too.

Nowadays she likes dancing in a much more vague sense. She’ll learn the choreography to whatever trendy song she saw around the Internet and upload it to social media. Mizuki also loves learning dances from her favourite dancers or trying her luck at improvisation.

When her agenda isn’t as busy or she gets a last minute cancellation, she usually sneaks into whatever free training room her agency has to offer to dance for a while. Training is noisy, so it isn’t something you can really do at home. But it fills her chest with a special sense of freedom.

Some people pointed out she might as well become an idol if she likes dancing so much but she wants to become a professional dancer. But dancing doesn’t seem to pose much of a threat to her modelling career. The entertainment industry is ruthless and refuses to look past her appearance. Luckily Mizuki is too stubborn to even consider giving up on her dreams: it’s the reason she started modelling in the first place.

Once again her agenda is a mess but if she had the time I think she’d love to try learning genres that are way out of her comfort zone. First on the list is definitely pole dancing. For sure. I also think she’d like to try her hand at a couple of Latin American styles, namely tango and rumba. But she needs to find a good partner that’s willing to put up with all the training.

Bonus: a couple of dances I always end up associating with her

I always think of this song when I think of her. It’s the electronic, easy-to-dance kind of music that’s super catchy and has a cutesy sort of dance that works well with her. (It’s also cat themed. Pink cat themed. And the lyrics are a good read if you’re curious about what Mizuki is really like under all the cutesy façade).

Also this was pretty much accidental because I like K-Pop suuuuper casually myself (I think Mizuki is really into it tho) but sometimes YT recs work. Momo from TWICE. This fancam of Talk that Talk. The way she looks like she’s having just so much fun on stage and the way she moves. Yeah <3 I’d also recommend Red Velvet’s Russian Roulette for the dance. And the video is really fun to c;

AND! I promise this is the last one but it’s also the most technically complex one (I think) and we’re less than one week away from Eurovision and I need to plug this in somewhere before people forget about this performance. I’d pay money to see Mizuki getting to do something like this, especially the 2nd part of the song <3
