it's nice to have a friend has gotta be my favorite of taylor's love songs because it's just so beautiful and so simple, and to me that's what real, true, long lasting love is! the minimal instrumental with the deep echo, making every note sound small and airy in this big wide world. such a simple little ditty, only one trumpet, even the church bell is just one gong. the story in the song doesn't start as a romantic pursuit. just two kids meeting by happenstance and finding kinship, enjoying each other's company in everyday life, confiding in each other, grateful for the mere existence of the other person alongside them day to day. even the song title doesn't anticipate anything more than companionship. and yet that's how it happens, slowly over time, arriving unannounced and with little fanfare like a quiet hum that you only just noticed for the first time. love grows from the little things, the light pink skies in the summer and two pairs of footprints in the snow and the kindness of shared gloves and tents and fears and hopes and the promise of warm sundays in bed. real, enduring, true love is quiet and small, like her vocals. soft, whispering as if only meant for someone right next to her, unforced and relaxed. musing in wonderment almost at the simplicity of it all, after all the misguided expectations of grandeur. love is simple! love is simple! love is simple!!!

what are the five’s favourite taylor swift songs? doesn’t have to relate to them necessarily - just what do they like to listen to?😂
MMMMM okay.
Matthew -> The only one of the 5 that I think would be an actual Swiftie beyond casually liking some songs. I think he's definitely a 1989 girlie (gender neutral). This is because I think he'd primarily like "dancey" songs - Style, Shake It Off, I Wish You Would, How You Get the Girl, Now That We Don't Talk, Is It Over Now... that vibe. Definitely a big ol' fan of Blank Space, too. I think he'd also really like Reputation (TIWWCHNT, LWYMMD, and I Did Something Bad would be God-tier to him) and Midnights (his relationship with YOYOK would need to be studied.) So yeah. He'd probably like all of her songs, though, from different eras, and listen to them depending on his mood.
Cordelia -> I think that she has a really strong relationship with Don't Blame Me. Like, her #1 most streamed song on every platform. Besides that, she vibes Getaway Car, Delicate, Sparks Fly, I Can See You, Mary's Song (because uh. Her and James), Paper Rings, Cornelia Street, and Lover. You Are In Love as well. She's a fan of The Ballads in all their forms, whether they're poppy or calming.
James -> I feel like he mostly will vibe anything that Cordelia or Matthew are listening to. He's not, like, a Swiftie who listens to them on his own, but he doesn't mind when the others play her music. His favorites would be Dear Reader, Don't Blame Me, You Are In Love, Cold As You (he likes the emotional moping vibes), High Infidelity (again. Emo.), and maybe like, Innocent.
Alastair -> Alastair was unfortunately not born with the Taylor Swift Enjoyer Gene. Alas. Bad things sometimes happen to good people. But he does really like a few of the Folkmore songs, and he puts them on his playlists - he has pretty wide music tastes and listens to select songs from tons of artists, so his playlists are expansive. I think his faves are My Tears Ricochet, Peace, Hoax, Tis the Damn Season, Tolerate It, Ivy, Closure, and It's Time to Go. But he definitely has screamed to WCS more than once too when he's emotional about Charles.
Thomas -> A Fearless girlie (gender neutral) to his core. Every song is a bop or a banger to him. But I think his favorite is Hey Stephen solely because it reminds him of how he felt about Alastair. Also because it's my favourite and I like to self-indulge. Other Fearless faves are Tell Me Why, Forever and Always, Love Story, The Other Side of the Door, and Today Was a Fairytale. His #2 album? Lover. His faves are I Think He Knows, Miss Americana, and the much-underrated INTHAF.
Another funny headcanon is that Cordelia tries to be a Good Ally and defend her loved ones against Homophobic Picture to Burn, but like every queer person ever made Matthew, Alastair, and Thomas think Homophobic Picture to Burn is hilarious and real. They're head-banging to it in the car (Matthew got the aux cord as usual) and she's Shook.

Hello, Phoebe. I’m back :)
How are you doing? Just put whatever you feel like here! This ask is the Phoebe Show; make it yours!
Lyssa, it is always a pleasure to see you in my notifs, but especially in my ask box! Thank you for filling it with kind words, awesome prompts, and fun questions for me to play around with.
This blog is the closest I imagine I'll ever come to having the Phoebe Delia Show, and since you have given me free rein with this ask, I shall endeavor to make it count.
I've gotten some incredible asks about my interests, but I'm going to answer a question that has been asked by exactly no one and rank Taylor Swift's albums.
This will be in order of my favorites; this isn't necessarily a reflection of what I think the rank would be in terms of objective quality; instead, this is based on my own personal enjoyment of the albums.
As always, I will provide a little explanation as to my reasoning, because I am nothing if not indulgent.
I actually really surprised myself with this ranking; as I looked through the albums I evaluated each by counting the number of songs I liked off of each one, and the ranking I thought I had has now changed. (I will explain in my comments!).
So! With that said. The Phoebe Delia Show Presents: Ranking Taylor Swift Albums.
1. Speak Now--To me, there is only one skip on this entire album; it is bop after bop. (If you're wondering, I think "Innocent" is the skip). Every song is just fun! I should also point out that this is also my favorite in part because Taylor said it was inspired by theater/Broadway.
2. 1989--I'm gonna be honest and say that I'm ashamed to have sort of slept on this album for so long. Don't get me wrong--I listened to and enjoyed it a lot when it came out, but I always sort of automatically pushed it further down on my list in favor of my 3rd choice because I liked the songs on my 3rd choice more. But now that I'm older and my music taste has somewhat evolved, I think I can say that 1989 is my 2nd favorite. There are truly no skips on this album. Yes, I know I said SN has a skip, but that album holds a special place in my heart so it gets number 1. I was thinking it over today, and while Taylor has always been amazing, I think this is the album that launched her into superstardom. We, her fans, knew she could do anything, but she still shocked us all by making the transition to an entirely pop album. Remember the "Blank Space" and "Bad Blood" music videos? I still think those are two fo my favorite of her mvs, though LWYMMD is a close second.
3. Red--Oh, my beloved. This album is wonderful. I have a lot of memories associated with this one, particularly watching the WANGBT music video and the IKYWT parody with the fucking goat that makes me laugh so hard even to this day. I am SO pumped for TV in November!! And while, yes, "All Too Well" is my favorite song on the album (and my fave TS song overall), "Holy Ground" is slept on and amazing.
4. folklore--This album is probably the most meaningful to me of them all just because of when it came out. We as an entire global community were struggling, and I know I had immense privilege to have been healthy and safe during that time. Still, like everyone else, I was depressed, lonely, and felt trapped inside my home and inside my mind. I will never forget listening to this album in my room and gasping when I heard TIMT. Not long after this album came out, I also lost my family dog, and this album was essential in helping me grieve. This album saved my sanity and gave me a cathartic outlet. I will be forever grateful to Taylor for writing it.
5. Reputation--This is another one for which I have a lot of memories. I will never forget when the LWYMMD music video came out and the world lost its entire mind. Taylor said there are still easter eggs we missed and I want someone to find them please and thank you. There are a few songs on this album that I'm not obsessed with, but the storytelling is so cohesive and creative. On the surface, one might think Taylor was being petty or whiny, but if you look closer--and remember the utter hell she was going through at the time--I think there are deeper meanings than her just getting back at Kim and Kanye.
6. Fearless--Oh, this album. It has some of her most iconic songs: YBWM, "White Horse," "Love Story"," "Forever and Always," etc. I truly wish I could tie this one with Rep, but I think Rep edges this one out *just* barely with songwriting/lyrical quality. I also don't know if I'll ever fully get over the fact that she kept "Mr. Perfectly Fine" from us for so long, but I suppose I can consider the 10 min "All Too Well" on Red TV to be proper repayment. ;)
7. evermore--I could not believe my eyes when she announced this album. How can this woman write this fast and this well!! I will never forget listening to "champagne problems," "no body, no crime," and "tolerate it" in particular. I ranked this after reputation just bc I think I enjoy listening to Rep more, but some of the songwriting on this album is *chefs kiss.*
8. Lover--I know, I know, I'm sorry. I don't want to put this one so low on the list but I just kind of can't put it any higher? I really love some of the songs on this album, but SYGB is too sad for me, "London Boy" kinda annoys me I'm sorry, and I just never really got into INTHAF or "Afterglow." But, that said, every other song on the album is a bop, even ME!, although I listen to the live version over the studio recording. It's a great album though.
9. Taylor Swift (Debut album)--I feel a little bad ranking this so low but I cannot honestly tell you that this album is better than her others, and something has to be last on the list. There are also some great, classic songs on this album. So, instead of being critical, I'm instead going to say that I remember vividly seeing a snippet of "Teardrops On My Guitar" advertised on Disney Channel for Radio Disney. It makes me smile to think of how far she's come since then.
And that concludes this episode of The Phoebe Delia Show! Tune in next time where I post some other self-indulgent opinion about one of my interests and hope it reaches people who care to read it :)
Send me an ask about Harry Potter, broadway/musicals, The West Wing, and/or Taylor Swift! Or just about life in general :).
Also, I have a playlist of my 99 most listened-to songs of the year so far. Pick a number 1--99 and send me an ask and I'll write you a fic based on it!

hey Amy! what’s your Taylor album ranking?
I’m sorry Arden... You probably won’t like this.
1. Folklore [THE defining Taylor album to me. It is the one I listen to the most and the only albums of hers where I genuinely love every song (…except for the lakes). I truly believe this is Taylor at her peak, and as somebody who enjoys calm, slow music, the instrumentation is also *chefs kiss* One of my all-time favorite albums already. It deserves all the praise it gets and more.]
2. RED [Even though folklore is her strongest as a whole body of work, most of her best songs are on RED, at least in my opinion. This album has its weak spots, but when it’s good, it’s astonishing. I also have a lot of great memories attached to this record. For some reason RED also feels like Taylor’s star album – even though it got less praise than 1989 or Fearless, I believe it will hold up the best and will be remembered as one of the defining records of the 2010s.]
3. 1989 [She’s a queen <3 Back when I first bought RED and 1989, 1989 was my favorite and I listened to it so much on CD that, to this day, I get irritated when Bad Blood doesn’t play immediately after IWYW. It is a weirdly nostalgic album for me and a lot of people, and on top of it it is arguably one of Taylor’s most cohesive works, in music, style, marketing, etc. It deserved everything it got.]
4. Speak Now [Used to be my favorite back in 2015/2016, mainly because I bawled my eyes out to Never Grow Up so many times (that still is my favorite Taylor song). I probably should listen to it more again and I know for a fact that it would rank higher had I listened to it in its entirety recently. My songwriting obsessed heart is easily swayed by 6-minute long ballads filled with some of Taylor’s best lyrics to date.]
5. Lover [First time on this list you’ll hear me talk about wasted potential, but *deep sigh*. It could have been great. Cruel Summer, Lover, Paper Rings and INTHAF are some of my favorite Taylor songs ever, but the album as a whole feels a bit forgettable. There are a lot of songs that didn’t necessarily need to be on the record, and as much as I love Taylor experimenting with new sounds, the 90s-does-60s sound of Paper Rings or the title track would have been an amazing base for an amazing album. She’s a bit too messy for me.]
6. Debut [Baby Tay!!! I used to rank this album the lowest and rarely ever listened to it, but after coming back to it, I have to say that it is VERY good. And it ticks a lot of the personal boxes for me – nostalgia, American small town blues, storytelling. Mary’s Song is hands down one of the best songs of Taylor’s career.]
7. Fearless [I don’t have many thoughts on Fearless. It’s a good album. I never connected to it much myself, which is why it’s that low on the list, but I respect it a whole lot. The album cover is BAD though.]
8. reputation [Do I understand that it was an important album for Taylor? Yes! Do I think it is a bad album? Not really. Do I think it could have been so much better? Yes. I listen to rep more than I listen to Fearless or Debut, but all the potential that I think this album had makes me a bit sad. I feel like it doesn’t really deliver the fake-persona campiness nor the introspective “who am I without my reputation?” aspect. But I 100% understand why the album is so beloved by fans and I also think that a lot of the criticism it got was unjustified.]

i have to confess that i don't like Lover. i didn't like as soon as It came out but i forced myself and listened to It for a few months. but now, i never even go near the album. i like some songs but not enough to listen it daily.
This was 100% me with 1989 to be honest. Like at first I pushed myself to listen and “love” it because everyone else was talking as if it was objectively better than RED (which is still to this day my favourite Taylor album) and that anyone who didn’t love 1989 more was complicit in Taylor’s sadness, but I couldn’t keep it up. At this point, This Love is the only song I listen to daily with YAIL, Clean and Wonderland being weekly if that and the others being when I’m in very specific moods. I also have to admit that there are very few Taylor songs generally I am listening to daily at this point.
Had this been release month still, I may have said to keep listening to Lover because certain songs have aged like fine wine and been better with every listen for me (INTHAF, False God and ITHK being the main ones), but realistically at this point, if you’re not feeling the songs, exposing yourself to them more probably isn’t going to help.
Maybe in years to come, something will click and you’ll like the songs (this happened with me with a lot of Taylor’s earlier stuff, specifically Dear John and CIWTR), but it’s okay if it doesn’t. Taylor has six other albums along with other projects you can listen to and dependent on what happens with LoverFest/the rerecordings, I could see Taylor’s next album coming within the next 12 - 18 months with side project songs (unreleased songs on rerecordings, maybe another movie xmas song) in-between that time.
So yeah, I’m going to end this with the attitude I wish was around during the 1989 era: You are not a lesser fan for enjoying one of Taylor’s albums less than others. It’s fine to only listen to certain songs/albums so long as you are not sending hate to the ones who like the ones you don’t or don’t like the ones you do. I hope you have a good day xx
