#mystuff #if there be thorns #flowers in the attic #the dollanganger series #this book is so crazy cathartic #bc it tackles the issue of cycles of violence and attempting to heal in such a raw way #ALL OF IT SO CATHY CAN FINALLY ACCEPT CORRINE'S FORGIVENESS #its SO GOOD #ITS SO LAYERED #ITS SO MESSY #ITS SO DAMN CATHARTIC THAT I ALMOST CRIED AT WORK #if corrine was truly like bart then she was someone who didn't know how to be herself so she became whoever made her strong #AND FOR BOTH OF THEM THAT PERSON WAS MALCOLM ugggh #i get that this book is hard to get through bc bart is such a difficult character #but i had so much sympathy for him bc he is just too sensitive and too imaginative and possibly on the spectrum? idk #i totally see how john amos could claw his way into his psyche and turn him on to his worst impulses #BUT ITS CHRIS AND CATHY'S EMPATHY AND COMPASSION THAT WON OUT #bart is keeping them locked in as his little mice ( GOD THIS WHOLE SEQUENCE IS A LOT)#but always he's thinking how this is all wrong and he does love them #if there be thorns is insane #u read flowers and petals JUST to get to the family dynamics in thorns i think
