#iPad Pro 9.7 rose gold
Got my things stolen and can’t remember what model to replace my ipad from, it was Apple Pencil 1st gen compatible. Thank you wizard
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(2016) iPad Pro 9.7” OR (2017) iPad Pro 10.5”
Below the cut are my opinions on a replacement iPad, the information i used to figure out what model you had, and also Apple’s weird rose gold phase. rip the rose gold colorway, 2015-2020
iPad shopping advice—
I do not recommend buying a refurbished 2016 iPad Pro, while not technically obsolete, iPadOS 16 is no longer receiving active support— security updates are still being pushed out but Apple tends to only provide those for another one or two years unless a zero-day vulnerability is found. (iPadOS 16’s active support expired a year ago, for further context)
I can’t in good faith recommend buying a refurbished 2017 iPad Pro, it currently operates on the latest OS (iPadOS 17), however that’s likely to be its last core update in its lifetime— it turns 7 years old this year (a typical lifespan for an iPad is 5-6 years), iPadOS 17 has less than a year of active support left with iOS & iPadOS 18 slated for September 2024… however, the prices look good if you can find one from a reliable seller.
I have two recommendations for replacement*
Refurbished** iPad Air (2020) 256gb
Runs iPadOS 17 and will be receiving core updates for another 2-3 years minimum
Support for up to 5 Gbps over USB-C support (which means support for external storage devices)
Support for the Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) and Apple Pencil (USB-C)***
Smaller bezels; the home button is removed and TouchID is on the power button
Support for a external mirrored display
Support for Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.0
5G LTE support if you’re into that sort of thing (cellular models do cost extra)
iPad 10th Gen (2022) 256gb
Runs iPadOS 17 and will be receiving core updates for the next 4-5 years minimum
Support for USB-C with speeds of USB 2.0
Front-facing camera is horizontal (which is the reason for the next point)
Support for Apple Pencil (1st Gen w/ Adapter) or Apple Pencil (USB-C)***
Smaller bezels; bigger screen, TouchID on power button
Support for an external mirrored display
Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.2 support
Cellular models equipped with 5G support
*Only if you need an iPad before March or April of this year. For the first time since 2010, Apple skipped a year in iPad refreshes. Mark Gurman predicts that new iPads will be released by the end of March. The 6th Gen iPad Air is rumored to be receiving a pretty large facelift— likely slashing the price of the 5th Gen Air. The iPad Air is widely considered to be the best price-to-performance option from the iPad family.
**I recommend checking out open box pricing for the latest generation iPads before making a decision. If possible, hit up a BestBuy or Microcenter so you can look at open box devices in person. Only buy refurbished devices from trusted sources; I recommend Amazon Refurbished or Geeksquad Refurbished.
***the Apple Pencil (USB-C) does not support pen pressure on any iPad model. The Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) is the most feature-rich model to date, read more here.
as both these iPads run the same processor, here are the benchmarks from CPU Monkey for the A10X Fusion (IPP2017) vs. A14 Bionic (IPA2020)
And the insane amount of information I know about Apple’s rose gold phase that led me to what iPad you have:
Apple introduced the rose gold colorway in 2015 with the launch of the iPhone 6s, and the phasing out started with the release of the iPhone 8 in 2017, replacing rose gold with just plain gold. That’s the timeframe for our rose gold iPad— and there were only six iPads launched between 2015-2017. This assumption is further supported by the launch of the Apple Pencil in late 2015 and the eventual launch of the the smaller 9.7” iPad Pro in 2016, which came in the standard space gray, silver, and gold, but was also released in one extra color: rose gold. The rose gold colorway in the iPad lineup was exclusive to the smaller IPP 1 & 2 until 2020 (see “Other Apple products…”). Additionally, the visible sides of the iPad suggest it’s from the “tapered unibody” MacBook era— specifically the “rounded edges” or “squircle” era, when all iPads fit awkwardly into folio cases if they weren’t made by Apple. The iPad that received a rose gold colorway in 2020 is of the “squared edges” era, thus ruling it out entirely.
Other Apple products that saw a brief rose gold colorway:
Retired from the Apple Watch lineup in 2017
Retired from the MacBook lineup in 2018
Retired from the iPhone lineup in 2017
Retired from the iPad Pro lineup in 2018
Added to the iPad Air lineup in 2020 and then immediately replaced by pink following the next release
Apple recently has introduced the pink colorway into its products as it delves more into the colorful side of tech again. Things you can buy in pink from Apple if you want to stay on theme:
iPhone 13, 15
iPhone 15 Plus
iPad 10th Gen (2022)
iPad Air (2022)
Apple Watch Series 9

Cintiq VS iPad (9.7 inch)
So it’s been almost a week since I bought myself an iPad and I figured, why not make a post comparing both my Cintiq and new iPad? I always get asked about what tablets I work with and which is better etc etc etc. Now, these aren’t the only options in terms of buying a drawing tablet. In fact, I’ve bought and used tablets under $100 when I first started digital art (in ye old middle school days). The real goal is to find what works for you and for me these two tablets are what suit my tastes and needs. And more importantly, having expensive tools doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll make you draw better. You need to draw more and experiment a lot in order for your drawing to improve.
With that, let’s get into it.
Cintiq 13HD (No-Touch) Price: $900
Tumblr media
So, I’ve actually had my Cintiq for almost 2 years now (received in 2016) and it was Christmas present that took 2 years prior to that to happen (part of it was constantly bombarding my parents with how much I need it and saving up the money). There are 2 versions of this tablet: No-Touch and Touch. Personally, I like to place my hand on whatever surface I’m drawing or writing on. I couldn’t tell you why, I just do it. I know some people can write without doing that and it feels weird for me to try and do that. I need to have my hand on the surface to feel out the motions I guess. So, I opted to buy the No-Touch version, which only responds to my stylus pen and nothing else.
If you’re an artist that loves drawing on surface and feels like they can execute better with drawing on-screen, then this tablet is for you. I’ve used tablets that aren’t on-screen drawing types and let me tell you, it’s a hassle to draw like that. Now, there are plenty of great digital artists who use these types of tablets and can make beautiful art, you go and props to you. But personally, again, I need to be able to draw on the surface to really feel what I’m making.
Pros:
Great for stationery studio work that requires more hours for completion
Pen pressure sensitivity is great
Little to no lagging while drawing
Can use as a second screen display (wanna watch Hulu while drawing? Now you can! )
Stylus pen has little button that’s really helpful for changing colors without having to the color wheel to eye dropper tool, just click and go
Compatible with both Macs and PCs
Comes with driver updates once installed so you don’t have to go the website and all that
Don’t have to charge any battery of sorts, it’s simply a second monitor screen
Comes with extra pen nibs, pen case and tablet stand
Cons:
Not portable and needs to be connected to a desktop of laptop in order to draw
May need an adapter for the port since some computers don’t all have HMDI ports yet (mine doesn’t and I needed an adapter)
Cables can get wonky if you continuously unplug and re-plug from moving to different locations, hence why it’s best for you to have a stationery studio to leave the Cintiq to preserve the cables better
Monitor screen slightly washes out colors, so make sure to look at the illustration on your main screen to check if your colors are okay.
Mini Express-Key pad is difficult to use (it’s customizable but you’re better off just using your hotkeys in my opinion)
Tablet stand isn’t the best, too much pressure can make it fall (but for the most part it does the job)
NEEDS TO BE UPDATED OR ELSE YOUR PEN WON’T WORK JUST TRUST ME
Expensive (current listing now is $800 after 2 years)
iPad (9.7 inch)  & Apple Pencil Price: $530
Tumblr media
Let me start off saying that I actually bought the iPad and Apple Pencil together on sale. This price doesn’t include any accessories like a tablet case and pen case. I’m saving up to buy those things later, but for right now I only paid for the tablet and pen. In addition, the Apple Pencil I bought was also refurbished so it was $10 less that original price ($99).
My iPad Specs
9.7 inch
128GB
Wi-Fi
No cellular
Rose Gold version
1 year warantee
I already own an iPhone so I don’t have a need to call or text people on my iPad. The reason I bought this was so that I’m able to draw on the go more or less. I don’t need cellular to draw on the go. Also, the 9.7 inch iPad has 2 versions: 32GB or 128GB. If you want more space, then you have to pay an extra $100 (which I did cause I’m gonna be drawing and CLIP files can get pretty big).
In reality, had I bought this tablet and Apple Pencil together when it initially came out, I would have paid $700-$800 dollars. That’s like buying a Cintiq but for a smaller screen. So, I waited until prices dropped over time and tried out my friends’ iPads just to get comfortable before I bought mine. I suggest doing this if you want an iPad but not sure if you want to make that jump yet. It took me 3-4 months to save up for this purchase (cause I had a job in my school and started doing commissions, so I was able to save money faster than I did 2 years ago)
Pros:
Portable and easy to store in your bookbag as long as you have a case
Practically no lagging when it comes to drawing
Pen pressure sensitivity is great (like too great, it can go so light that it beats out Cintiq pen pressure sensitivity)
Just like an iPhone, can switch between horizontal and vertical views so you can choose which is comfortable
Extremely lightweight
Colors are great and not washed out
AIRDROP IS GODSENT (wanna finish that sketch you made earlier? AirDrop it to your Mac and finish it on your Cintiq)
Long battery life (I’ve only charged it once so far)
Apple Pencil also has long battery life
Apple Pencil is bluetooth so it connects once you set it up the first time
Rose gold is a cute color
More affordable
Cons:
Apple Pencil needs to be charged and doesn’t have a way of showing when it’s at 100% (gotta hope for the best honestly, but on your iPad it’ll tell you when your Pencil is at 5%)
When needed, it takes almost a day to fully charge iPad
Not suited for work that requires a lot of time, so it’s more of a sketchbook if anything else
If you choose to not have cellular, you can’t really use any apps that require Wi-Fi
Don’t have hotkeys for my drawing program, it’s pretty much manual
Touch sensitive to both Apple Pencil and hands, so yeah it’s a bit of hassle when drawing and my resting palm makes unnecessary marks
So that’s pretty much all I have to say about both tablets in regards to pros and cons. Of course, these aren’t only tablets you can use if you want to do digital drawing. I’m just simply sharing my experiences and thoughts on these particular tablets since I use them. Now, Cintiqs are studio standard equipment (if you wanna work in animation that is) so that’s really the reason why I own one (since I am an animator). I bought the iPad cause I dislike not being able to digitally draw anywhere outside of my room (which is my studio). Or when I go for meetings with my clients for freelance projects and having to use a napkin for drawing. It’s more or less a sketchbook for me. But I do highly recommend the iPad for it’s price since it’s almost $300 less than the smallest Cintiq (which is the 13HD). Also, you can still use your favorite drawing programs (except for SAI I think) and it doesn’t feel any different.
Hope this post was helpful to someone!

—— updated tech i use for college 🤍 •• hi everyone! since the semester has come to an end, i wanted to do a comprehensive review of the tech i used for this past semester! If y’all want a post about the apps I use for school & I’ll work on it! :) & btw…you DO NOT need these to be successful! These are simply my tools that aid me in my own success; use what works best for YOU! ↳ MacBook Air 13’’ (2020) •• i previously used a MacBook Air 13’’ (2015) & it never failed me! i got it as a high school graduation gift (class of 2016 wya!!) & used it throughout my college experience. i decided this year to upgrade to the MacBook i have now & i absolutely love it! it’s obviously a lot faster than my older MacBook & the new retina display is amazing. also, the rose gold finish is 😍😍 ↳ iPad Air 4th Gen. • Apple Pencil 2nd Gen. •• i previously used a iPad Pro 9.7’’ with the Apple Pencil 1st Generation for about a year & some change. the iPad worked fine, but i needed something that worked faster & i was intrigued with the bigger & brighter displays on the newer models. i have been using the iPad Air for almost 3 weeks & it hasn’t let me down. the design, the speed, the display, EVERYTHING about it is sublime. if you are in the market for an iPad for school—or any tablet for that matter—INVEST in this one! it’s WORTH IT! the Apple Pencil 2nd gen. is SO much better than the 1st gen. & that’s all I gotta say about THAT! ↳ Logitech K380 • Logitech Pebble M350 •• i’m just gunna be honest with y’all…i just bought these because of the color!! but they’re GREAT products & I find that I prefer to use the mouse more than my trackpad on my laptop. The keyboard is great when I want to multi-task between my laptop & iPad as well, which is quite often! —— https://www.instagram.com/p/CIeQfsbhS1a/?igshid=1ssjtkufkfjs5

Apple's New iPad Pro
Apple's new iPad Pro
offers users some nice upgrades in a small package, which enhances computing and entertainment capabilities for everyone.
The tech giant has not only made the smaller size "Pro" more portable, but also more powerful.
The device is only 9.7 inches, which is a smaller version of its 12.9-inch iPad Pro's older sibling. In many ways it will remind the user of its predecessor, the iPad Air 2.
The measurements are similar to air. It is 9.4 inches long, 6.6 inches wide and 0.24 inches thick.
But listen because the new iPad Pro has added listening capability. Users can hear four built in speakers, one in each corner. It doubles the two speakers in the Air 2.
To the left of the new machine is Apple's Smart Connector. It can be used to connect and power Apple's $ 150 smart keyboard cover.
The camera lens has been upgraded. It is of 12 megapixels. The lens extends backwards similar to the Apple 6 and 6S phone models.
On the front side, the camera is also upgraded. It is five megapixels as opposed to 1.2 on older devices. And, for the first time, an Apple device is capable of capturing 4K video.
There is also better viewing quality on a smaller device. Apple calls it a "true tone" and claims that the new iPad Pro screen is the brightest and least reflective in the world.
TrueTone uses light sensors and continuously monitors the intensity and color of surrounding light sources. The display adjusts to mimic the light. This makes it easy to see for a long time. Colors are displayed more accurately.
Fans of the Pencil stylus will be happy to learn that Apple included support for it on the iPad Pro. This is only the second Apple device to do so. Pencil of course lets you jot down notes in the Notes app or draw more professional-looking sketches with applications like ProCreate.
Inside, one will find Apple's latest 64 bit A9X chip and M9 coprocessor. Apple says that this will enable you to perform tasks reserved for PCs and workstations.
The Touch ID home button is onboard to make it easier to unlock the device. You can also shop in the App Store with just a fingerprint.
Heavy users will appreciate storage options that can go anywhere from 32 gigabytes to 256 gigabytes.
Battery life you can get through the business day. Apple expects 10 hours between charges.
On many high-tech devices the colors of the machine appear to be many different. Options include Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Rose Gold.
Prices for the 32GB Wi-Fi model will start at around $ 600. Expect to add an additional $ 150 with each increase in storage. Also the cost of LTE capabilities will increase by $ 130.
It will be easy for business users to perform many tasks like editing Excel spreadsheets and answering emails. Others will enjoy watching movies and browsing Facebook.
Those who enjoy the benefits of a larger device will still opt for the 12.9 inch version. However, fans of Apple looking for greater portability will find more than enough smaller versions to fit their needs.
Apple has proved that small can actually be better.
