I’m just thinking about Butcher holding my face in his hands, his thumbs drawing circles on my cheeks. Please can you write this scenario with reader?🥺. Maybe they just sort of freeze in the middle of the hideout when the circumstances of their life hit them. Idk, i’m just obsessive jcjdkskjdkekekdjkak. Thank you!
all I can say is how did this never enter my brain????? thank you millions i have a good feeling about this one, except a lot of plot and drama is here yay
"No, that won't work. There's a camera here," MM points to a spot on the blueprints. "And here." Deflated, your face falls into your hand, and a frustrated cocktail of a sigh and groan escapes you. Each of your contributions to this plan have had holes poked through them like a pin to a balloon.
A firm hand squeezes your left shoulder in reassurance. Butcher stands to your right, stiff and calculating. You scan the table once again.
"I could sneak into this hallway and then this vent. I'm out and nobody can catch me," You suggest once more. Hughie looks at you with wide eyes, eyebrows racing up his forehead. "Are you kidding? Annie says Homelander spends his time right there," he jabs at a room next to your suggested vent opening. "There's no way he wouldn't know where you are."
Spiky anxiety begins to lace around your veins. He's right. Even if security didn't see you, Homelander sure as hell would. Maybe a recon mission was a bad idea. Getting in was easy, lie about your credentials and set up a fake meeting. It's slipping out undiscovered that makes you feel more like bait with each passing second.
Butcher feels it too. He hasn't said a word, but you feel his pulse through his fingertips, his jaw is hiked up tight. You want to back out, but the meeting has already been set up, and their cancellation policy is two weeks notice or more.
It's scheduled for tomorrow.
"I need to..." You duck out from under Butcher's arm and make for your bedroom, arms wrapped tightly around yourself. Heat builds behind your eyes, your cheeks, and then your waterline threatens to flood.
The bed is too soft and unstable to sit on, so you use it as a backrest instead and hug yourself on the floor. Your face is hot and damp, a mess of tears and sweat and worry, and loss before you've even lost anything.
The door creaks. Footsteps sink into the floor. Rustling of fabric and hands on your forearms. Butcher's kneeling in front of you, eyes serious and concerned. You sniffle, and he uses one hand to tug on your knee.
You lower them and chills engulf you for a moment. But then he's closer, a hand on the side of your shoulder and one splayed across your neck and jawline, under your ear.
"If I don't get out--" "You will," he interrupts you firmly. "If Homelander--" "He won't, and I'll tell ya why he won't. He ain't gonna get a chance, cos MM and Frenchie are gonna be off causing a ruckus somewhere else." The threads of worry think about unstitching themselves from your veins. "Is that safe?" You're so wound up it's almost a squeak. "Fuck, no," he scoffs to himself, amused. "But they can look after themselves." His hands cup the junctures of your jaw, thumbs brushing tears away from your cheeks before pressing a little harder. Across your cheekbones, to your temples and back down to the apples of your cheeks. Memorising your face and reminding himself that you're right there. "You'll be safe, yeah? You come straight to me and Hughie the moment you're out."
You nod, soothed by his hypnotic movements. The threads untangle themselves and you savour this moment of peace before you're once again gripped by panic at the gravity of your mission.
But Butcher's watching. You'll survive.

I'm sure you hear this every day, but... O. M. G! Your art is divine! The details amaze me and every time I look at it, I find something new. Right now I'm obsessed with your Sherlock series (even if part of it is sad 😢). Your elderly Sherlock is perfect!
I particularly love your John. There's a lot of artists that draw/paint characters from Sherlock, and many of them are wonderful, but looking at your John Watson made me feel like I was actually going to see him stand up and say something! I think Martin Freeman is so gorgeous, and you captured his distinctive look when he is playing John really well. Like I wouldn't even have to see anything but his face and know that it was John vs. Lester or Phil. Thank you!
I'm also quite sure that you are busy with all of your other work (I also love the Black Panther art I've seen), but I was wondering if you are planning any more Sherlock art in the future? Do you ever draw anything based on or inspired by any fanfic? I could absolutely see your work being part of or as an addition to some of the excellent writing out there. (maybe that's just my wishful thinking hahaha 😉😂).
Anyway, sorry for rambling on, I just can't get over how beautiful the Sherlock series is. I'm going to stalk the rest of your work now!
PS the Soldier Boy piece is fantastic as well! Have you considered other Boys characters? I think you could do stunning work with Butcher, Hughie, Maeve and Stormfront, just to name a few of my favorite characters 😉❤️
Hi anon!
Thank you so much for such a detailed ask and for enjoying my art in general and my Sherlock art in particular! It's very kind of you. ❤
Right now I'm obsessed with your Sherlock series (even if part of it is sad 😢). Your elderly Sherlock is perfect!
(In reference to THIS POST) Thank you so much! I'm quite sadistic, honestly. First Sherlock artworks since 2015 and what do I do ? I kill this poor John and Sherlock ends up on his own. Don't ask me why I had this terrible idea! 🙃
I particularly love your John.
Do you know that he's not that easy to draw ? Bizarrely, Sherlock is easier (except his chin).
I think Martin Freeman is so gorgeous
He is. I'm French and I don't know how to explain it better than he's the cute British guy next door, the one with whom you dream to go to a Paul Weller concert with (that's how I perceive him, don't ask 😅). I'm hoping for a return of the bangs one day 😞
I'm also quite sure that you are busy with all of your other work (I also love the Black Panther art I've seen), but I was wondering if you are planning any more Sherlock art in the future?
YES! But this time, I'm not killing this poor John. First, I have two portraits to post, one of Sherlock and one of John (you can view a preview HERE). Then, when I have the time I'll work on a follow up to this series and this time it will be "John Watson's Camera Roll" (so John's POV) but I won't do it immediately because I've just finished working on a new Avengers series and I'm a bit tired. 😅
Do you ever draw anything based on or inspired by any fanfic?
Sherlock fics no, I've never collaborated with an author but I did tons of collabs for Supernatural and even Marvel fan fictions. I gathered a good part of my works in a PDF HERE.
PS the Soldier Boy piece is fantastic as well! Have you considered other Boys characters?
I'm going to be honest. I love The Boys but so far I don't have enough time or interest to draw anything inspired by it. I prefer focusing on Sherlock and The Avengers.
Thanks again for your lovely ask and have a great day!

Well... it finally happened. (The Boys 3.6)
How fitting that it was Kripke that made me finally give in to the urge to write about the TV that I watch. Usually, I just tweet through it. But there were two glasses of wine and a big ol' honking narrative feast involved. So, here we are. We'll see if I do it twice.
This is all a first-watch reaction. I'm sure I'll glean more later.
____________________________________________
The first thought I had was this:
"How very Kripke to use sex to hype what was essentially a completely character-driven episode about being used by people & institutions and what you prioritize in the wake of that."
Just want to point out that the background setting for some of this episode was Herogasm, where Annie very specifically called out the abuse of sex workers. The sex is inconsequential... the power dynamics and abuse, however, are not. That's your set dressing to talk about this episode.
With that said, let's go down the list. Homelander is having a full-on identity crisis. Who is he if he is not the most valued, most powerful, most feared? These are elements instilled in him by Vought, who left him "alone in the bad room" while cultivating his very violent powers. This episode laid bare just how reliant he is on others, that if he didn't have as many people propping him up, if more people teamed up to fight him, he wouldn't be as powerful. Mark him down as used by Vought and trying to Uno Reverse some using of his own this year. His priority, as always, is himself....a self he just learned it is possible to beat physically.
------------------------------------- Soldier Boy. I don't know what to do with this character. We're very purposefully being subtly told rather than shown who he is. This makes sense because his powerset is very useful to Butcher and Hughie. We don't want to think of him as a bad guy, just like they don't want to see it, and we want them to win. Sometimes you have to ally with shitty people to get things done. They want the audience ambivalent about working with him....reconciling both Hughie's viewpoint and Annie's, both Butcher's and M.M.'s. So, we maybe don't want to pause and think about the fact that if he was present when Cosby was dosing drinks.... he didn't mind being a witness to certain events. That if he was buddy-buddy with Liberty, he was fine with her racism even as he was willing to let Black people entertain him. He has no remorse about what families he killed, but he also was used in war for 40 years... and witnessing and participating in those events, for some people will blunt their empathy. And that was BEFORE the torture. He was a veteran used by both the government and Vought, just like we have soldiers used by both the government and defense contractors. His priority is revenge and he's willing to "whatever it takes" it, no matter what the body count looks like. Was it his fault he blew apart the house? No. I'm not so sure that is a PTSD reaction or a purposeful part of Vought and/or Russians trying to turn him into a sleeper agent, someone they could turn into a bomb, but regardless, his response to it was to apathetically walk away and look for the next fight, not to help people. The warning signs are blinking in big, giant letters....he's an attack dog that people think they can put a leash on, that he won't turn and bite them too.
__________________________________
Butcher. Butcher is using everyone around him in order to get revenge. That's his priority, that's been his priority since season one. Is he wrong about prioritizing taking out Homelander? No. How he treats others to get there is a real problem. But he recognizes, at least fleetingly, that his friends could die. With Hughie as his analogue for Lenny, he seems like he's teetering on having a breakthrough for what he's willing to lose, who he's' willing to let follow him into the dark. However, he's also just learned that three superpowered people isn't enough to end Homelander. He has a new incentive to draw even more people back into his orbit.
_____________________________________
Hughie. He's been used by Butcher, by Vicky, by Vought. His priority is not feeling helpless anymore, to not be viewed as the skinny kid who gets told, even by people he views as friends, that it was silly of him to try and help them. He didn't actually want that apology from A-Train (an apology he didn't think he'd get based on past experience), he wanted to square off and prove something. What he's proven is that Annie January should drop him like a hot potato. ___________________________________
M.M. has been used by Vought, used by Butcher. His priority has also turned to revenge, ...suicidally reckless revenge, but he's not so far gone morally that he won't put innocent people first when given a nudge.
_______________________________
Frenchie, used by Mallory, Nina, and Butcher... his priority since the Lamplighter incident has been a mix of drugs, redemption, self-hatred, and love. He wants to wash his sins away and I think he truly struggles to accept love, knowing what he's done. He was saved by the two women in his life, he was simply scared for them and sorry they were in that position because of him. He viewed himself as the beast Nina told him he was. What will his priority be now that he is free...? He cares for his friends, he cares for Kimiko, he cares about not leaving more bodies of innocents around.
_______________________________
Kimiko has been used by the Shining Light Liberation Army, by Vought, by Frenchie (who stopped last year), by Butcher... This year has been a process for her to learn who she is outside of those influences. She had convinced herself that it was the powers that drove her violence. Kimiko learned otherwise this episode. Her priority -- getting to live and love and Frenchie getting the same, for neither of them to be used. If the only way to ensure this is by having powers, will she embrace them again now that she knows she's potentially a killer with or without them?
____________________________ Noir lets himself be used by Vought, by Edgar, by Homelander. His priority is the company, for the first time we see he might be prioritizing himself. Where he went when he ran away is anyone's guess. He could be going to hide with and protect Edgar. He could have gone to ground. Maybe he'll go grab Maeve and they'll form an unlikely alliance. Enigma that he is, his priority remains to be seen.
_______________________________
A-Train... he used whatever he could to be the shiniest toy. Finally called out by multiple people.... he prioritized what he thought was the right move, sacrificing himself to stand up for others. He was a murderer, he stopped a murderer. The writers really had him use a type of lynching to kill Bluehawk. It was both powerful and uncomfortable.
______________________________
Ashley. Used by Vought, specifically Homelander and A-Train. She's prioritizing feeling powerful, no matter which psycho she needs to serve to make sure she stays on her throne. Her little speech to A-Train.... he needed to hear it. However, it revealed both of them. A-Train murdered people, Ashley was more than willing to cover it up and ride the coattails of some corpses into promotions.
_________________________________
Annie January. Used by Vought, Homelander, Hughie, Butcher, and an attempt by Vicky. She's done. Absolutely done. And I am terrified for her. She's prioritizing innocents, morality, and taking down the real problem, but how she did it might make BOTH Homelander and Soldier Boy lose it. She made the big bold play Maeve wouldn't. This huge a move in an effort to save people with the power of Super Obvious Goodness might just create more collateral damage.
_____________________________________
tl;dr: We have a cast of characters fighting against being used and disrespected. For some of them, the response is to use others and not to care about the collateral damage. For others, the response is to try to prevent more collateral damage. And some are on the fence. Where people choose to land...? Some we know, some we don't. Everyone is telling themselves they're doing it for the right reasons. The idealists and the bad guys. Even the bad guys who feel compelled to tell us they're not the bad guys.
