i say it a lot but i always want my characters to feel human. sometimes humans are messy and selfish and dumb, but they’re also empathetic and selfless and loving. manufactured drama just feels… well, manufactured.

which undoubtedly works and has its place in fiction, but isn’t something i’m personally very good at. so i really appreciate you saying this!
