ok im gonna go bananas on a character song for a character i haven’t even released publicly yet, not even to my stream viewers. the song is flipside by ripe. i may suggest some spoilers here but i’ve literally been looping the song all night n this morning. this is gonna get rambly but i gotta put the thoughts SOMEWHERE--
to preface this is about the antagonist who will tear out heartstrings. hopefully i can disguise them along with a couple more ocs i may add in here bc now that it’s gone full fledged PASSION project instead of doin it for an audience or even for the hlvrai fans i can. blur things around.
i realize i could’ve implied it was an existing character but there’s already the mystery of the traitor in teams nice so i felt that was too much suspicion to lay on em.. and i feel like it might be obvious that they shouldn’t be 100% trusted when they appear
ok this is about the mood/themes of the song n with the character... there’s something melancholy but hopeful. the song by itself is hopeful, it’s trying to encourage someone who’s too afraid to take risks in life to allow mistakes, to live fully and messily. which is honestly a good message, probably one i should be taking BUT I DIGRESS
in the context of this character it sounds like a drowning man trying to convince someone else to come to the water with him to experience something chaotic. “damn the consequences im vibing rn.” i’m realizing there’s probably a water motif happenin’ here. which suits this character considering how, well, fluid they seem to be. loose and capricious. but also they’re attempting to soothe and sweet talk the person in the song. who..? mmm. maybe i’ll elaborate tomorrow if i stream. but lemme put in some lyrics to support these thoughts
I should apologize If you were not warned that I I was born a roving soul And I should clarify You should not expect that I Will take you more than half the way home And I warn you baby Things I do are best kept out of the light They're only For your eyes But I'll show you mama Dreams were always meant to catch fire Come join me Gunning for the Flipside
the song for this character feels like. a cry for help disguised as a plot to lead someone to disaster, disguised as an invitation to freedom. layers... but the singer is putting a lot of trust and affection into this. i wanna put more lyrics in but i’d virtually be putting the whole song and this is already long
but these lyrics in particular have been rotating like a rotisserie chicken in my brain..................
won’t you hear me out, you who fear to drown? i swear that the water’s nice once you learn to swim around...
the biggest takeaway if none of that made sense is that this song is misleading on purpose, but there is a part of it that comes from genuine affection and the singer/character has some regrets about it, but not nearly enough to stop themselves.
