i can’t even escape the eddie x reader shit in the lucas tag. that entire tag is flooded with content that literally doesn’t even feature lucas. head in my hands crying acreaming
#i wanna see other people’s interpretations of lucas’ character so badly#it’s all other content or people deciding stranger things is the most horrific representation for minorities ever#there are problems with it but you can really tell that some people aren’t looking far enough into the actual details of the show and take#it very surface level#and the story isn’t over. they aren’t going to suffer forever and never find happiness like it’s confirmed st is gonna have a happy ending#for our characters#i think sometimes people are looking at the cast as just minorities and not actual developing characters y’know#yes lucas is a black man and experienced racism and it isn’t being handled as well as it could be but stuff like him joining basketball#wasn’t about him being a stereotype. I’ve yet to read lucas on the line but I’m pretty certain he joined basketball because conforming to#stereotypes present in the 80’s was the only way for him to gain popularity and at the end of the season he decides it isn’t what he really#wants#and will isn’t the horrible gay rep they say he is because his story isn’t finished yet either#he IS going to end up with mike. he is going to have a hero arc and finally get to be happy#the show needs to be criticized for the way it handled billy and jason and brenner for sure#but our minority characters are more than just minorities and it feels like that’s just what people see instead of reading into them more#we can criticize media without it automatically being the worst show on the planet and making seem like enjoying it makes you a horrible#person#sorry for the rant it’s just frustrating how much of lucas’ character is being used to hate stranger things rather than having people look#at lucas as a character as well as a minority#people have every right to be angry but dumbing lucas down to just being a stereotype erases his character and his struggles#erica is definitely written as stereotypical but they’re also starting to expand on her character in season 4 and i think that’ll continue#in season 5. the closer she gets to being a central character the more we learn about her and i hope the duffers listen to what people have#been saying and continue to give her depth#im open to being told if/why this is a bad take though

I am very, very tired.
People in fandoms seriously need to learn that sometimes, not everyone interprets characters the same way. Sometimes, people will hate your faves and love your most hated characters, and that’s okay. People will see different things in characters, or find some more deserving of sympathy than others, or create fanworks that might seem OOC to you, because that’s just how people are. And as much as there are plenty of lovely people in fandoms, there’s also a significant number who need to sit down and bloody well accept that.
I have very strong character opinions, and I’m not exactly quiet about them, but I put them into my own fics and leave well enough alone. When I see someone hating a character I love, which happens a lot for me TBH, you know what I do? I move on, block the person if it’s really that bad, and get over it. What I don’t do is White Knight for fictional characters; I don’t leave comments on fics telling authors that they’ve written characters badly, or send them multiple itemised lists of everything they’ve gotten wrong about my faves and accuse them of deliberately interpreting canon in bad faith somehow to try and force them to love the characters I like.
Sorry this is negative, but I’ve just had it. Fandom is meant to be fun, and yet these people insist on ruining it with pointless arguments because they can’t accept opinions exist.

Marcanne Headcanons
Sorry it took me ages to answer this and these are really angsty but:
- Marcy used to come around to Anne's a lot to get away from her parents (before the whole Amphibia thing) - the Boonchuys are used to it and have an airbed ready for impromptu sleepovers plus food Marcy likes (since she's picky about textures).
- After Amphibia, Marcy moves in permanently with the Boonchuys and so do the Plantars.
- She gets her own room but she doesn't use it much; she finds sleeping over with Anne more fun, and often when she's alone she'll get nightmares about being stabbed and seek out Anne or her parents anyway.
- Anne absolutely steals her hoodies and is sad when she washes them; they have a smell that Anne finds comforting (she says it's like being permanently hugged by Marcy).
- Marcy has chronic pain from her injuries; she literally died and Andrias' healing equipment wasn't perfect. There are some days where she's fine and some where she can barely walk. But Anne is always there for her; she's the only one Marcy will let push her on the days she needs a wheelchair.
- Marcy starts getting uncomfortable about being called "Marmar" because it reminds her of Andrias, but she doesn't wanna say. Anne notices anyway and quietly switches to just using 'Marbles' when she wants to be affectionate.
- Marcy confesses her feelings over a game of Creatures and Caverns (they absolutely start a proper campaign with Sprig and Polly and Sasha) where she has an NPC based on her confess to Anne's character and it all comes out from there. It's awkward and uncertain but Anne loves it anyway.
- They like to go stargazing together; if there's one thing Marcy misses from Amphibia, it's the lack of light pollution. So sometimes she and Anne will catch a bus out of town and go watch the stars (until they both get distracted and start playing Switch XD).
