Oh my God! I am at a crossroads here because morally, socially and culturally it is always more accepted and well seen that men are workaholics and that is why they don't pay attention to their romantic partners or families. Because if they sacrifice their personal life they will have a faster promotion, a promotion means more money, more money means more economic stability and more progress in the future for their families. However, if women are the ones who do that, they are labeled as "bad wives", "bad girlfriends", "bad daughters", "bad mothers", etc. For that reason I can't criticize BG for working too hard, because then I should also criticize male characters who do the same. However, I understand that BG's actions are unintentionally hurting Bradley, I understand the feelings and thoughts he has. Rooster doesn't feel loved, or wanted, he feels rejected, forgotten and cast aside at this point. He is experiencing a weird sense of loss and mourning, first he was in the euphoria of getting engaged, but, now he is watching as the wedding plans get further and further away, as the woman he loves seems to be pushing him aside, making plans that don't include him and forgetting the ones they already had together. I'm in a grey area with this, I can't judge anyone, I don't have the heart for it, because they are both making very valid points with what is happening to them. BG and Bradley can always go back to contemplating a Vegas wedding with Elvis. If I were Hangman, I would gift Bradley with some much needed cooking classes, so he doesn't intoxicate his family and in-laws at future end of year parties. Bickel, so far, has sounded like a good boss, but, if BG realizes that he may never promote her. Then she can contemplate a job as a civilian contractor in the Department of Defense, all her experience working in the Navy would make her a valuable asset. She could work at many places like the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory or the Center for Naval Analyses, or she could even stay in San Diego and work on base as a civilian contractor. You're probably wondering how I know all this? I know because Christine Fox worked at all of those places and she was a civilian (she's who the producers of Top Gun were inspired by to create the character of Charlie Blackwood). I don't know, I just know I want to cry from how distressing this chapter was. Breathe. Breathe. Trust the process. PS: Actually, I don't want to cry, I meant that figuratively, but, in my heart I am crying for Bradley and BG.
NORMA! Let's see... yes, it's a bit of a role reversal. But to be honest, I think Roo is so used to having her attention, that he never thought he'd be without it. And he does give her plenty of his attention too. He really makes her feel special all the time. He wants her to be happy and successful at work, but he knows she tends to overdo it. She's not the best at setting those boundaries. It's really the lack of commitment to planning anything for the wedding that's killing me. So hopefully she can snap out of this soon and see that a little bit will go a long way with him.
Hey, I contemplated having them get married in Vegas... that was definitely on the docket! And BG definitely has a good boss. I think he trusts her work and would recommend her for a promotion when she becomes eligible for it.
