one of the most interesting things about the artemis fowl flop of a movie is that every time i saw someone say they'd turned it off before finishing it, they specified that it had been at the 20 minute mark, which is the point at which I turned it off, too. this was the exact scene where butler begins to show artemis the armory or secret fairy-hunting basement or whatever was about to happen. and it's so funny that it's literally the bullshit change of artemis inheriting some fairy-world lineage/connections nonsense instead of getting to see artemis build his own knowledge base and assemble his own tools and technology, which is the draw of the whole concept - a genius 12-year-old becoming a fairy-blackmailing monster because he's 1) a 12-year-old who still believes in fairies and 2) a monster who believes in blackmailing fairies - is what broke so many people. like. yeah. no one wanted to see artemis inherit shit. we wanted to see him work unbelievably hard for it. because his mom was sad.
