#john singer sargent#i think his sketches are soooo much more interesting and alive-seeming than his portraiture#just found out his male nude sketches were “hidden” until a gallery show in the 1980s and then everyone was like hmm maybe this dude was ga#tho apparently that was well known by his friends at the time lol#i saw this sketch irl at the art institute several years ago but its not on display now#its funny bc iirc it was like. a kind of underwhelming exhibit of portraiture and then these REALLY COOL sketches at the end#s
