OLBA or Our Life: Beginnings & Always it's a visual novel where you can play the perfect life you never got and cry about how much you wanted it after you finish it :DD (available on Steam for pc and Itch.io for both pc/mac and android!)

You play as-- well, you (or not, you choose)! You can choose your name, last name, pronouns, appearance, personality, hobbies, everything except your family, but you wouldn't like to change them for anything after you meet them.

You start the game as an innocent 8 years old kid that meets a random guy that tells you that he just moved across the street, he also tells you about his son: Cove! who has the same age as you. This guy tries to bribe you with 20 dollars, you can accept or refuse (or run! i like that option), either way you end up in a poppy hill behind your house and find the so famous Cove! He tells (cry) you that his parents just divorced and that he miss his mom ( :c ), you can comfort him or not, but you two still will be found by both of your families and have to go home.

That's the prologue! Gameplay aspect: it consists in 3 Steps of your life: 8, 13 and 18 years old! Each Step comes with 5 Moments, where you can spend time with (mainly) cove, if you're playing the base game. Talking about base game! You can complete it in around 5 hours (that's what took me the first time i think), and it comes with a 4th Step that work as an epilogue!

There are 6 paid DLC's (and a free one that is a name pack), 3 are other 15 moments for the first 3 Steps, 1 is a wedding dlc for our lovely Cove <3 (we'll get to him in no time), and the last 2 are extra content for two characters you'll meet in your very first playthough: Derek in Step 2 and Baxter in Step 3 (you should know this one very well if you follow me lmao), each with 5 moments extra for their assigned Step and their own Step 4 where you can follow and give proper closure to their stories!

I'll try to not ramble a lot because it's something you just need to experience yourself to get it but-- i will introduce you to the love interests! (or friendship interests, you don't need to crush on anyone to have a great time)

Cove Holden! Our lovely neighbor that we see almost everyday for like 10 years! You could also call him the second main character after you, since you learn more about him and his family during all the game. He's an introvert and ocean nerd (in the cutest way possible), depending on your choices you can shape his personality/style and become best buddies, the sweetest couple or just remain neighbours that never really got along. (you'll learn to love him, platonic or not, trust me)

Another perk of the game is that no matter what you do there's not "wrong or right" (unless you feel bad for the characters, like me), your actions does have consequences but there's nothing like a "bad ending/good ending", after all it's just your life, it goes on no matter what! Unless you want to reach a specific scene you found online you'll never have to use a guide for anything.

Derek Suarez! A caring guy! mabye a little too much, he's the oldest brother of 3 and that shaped him in a way that he always feels responsible of everything😔. During his storyline you'll help him to learn how to relax and lean on other people :D!

Baxter Ward! A monochromatic gentleman, mischievous as a cat and emotionally repressed like a pressure cooker <3. Struggles a lot with making deep conections and being emotionally vulnerable, you can imagine about what goes his storyline lol.

He's my favorite, if you haven't noticed. He has that infuriating charm that only someone that unironically says "Hallelujah" has. A very dramatic route, he's a very dramatic guy, you should see how he texts in step 3 aghsdas.

Also! all the side characters are super likeable, from your family to the baker of that bakery that is metioned a few times!

ANYWAYS, in conclusion: this is a very relaxing game! If you like visual novels you should definitely give it a try, the amount of replayability this game has is insane. My recommendations for when you play are:

Try the base game first! If you like it you can buy the moments dlcs (theyre only 3$ each!), mabye the wedding dlc after that (if you want to marry cove that is, this one is 2$ btw), Derek's dlc and Baxter's dlc (5$ each) for last. Those are pretty much the release order but i that's also the order i enjoy the most!

(play this game at least 2 times trying different choices/personality, the differences are ughhhh/pos)

When you're playing for the first time you should play the moments left to right. On later playthroughs you should change the order to find new dialogues! theyre small things but omg theyre so fun

Have fun! do whatever you want, i literally said there's no bad or good ending, take advantage of it and be as foward or shy as you want, be a little shit or a literal angel! That is your life we're talking about.

Do Student Athletes Deserve to be Paid? *Legally*

For the past decades, the topic of paying collegiate athletes has always been highly discussed. With great arguments from both sides it’s really hard to tell who is right. But also, who is morally right? As a die hard sports fan this has been an interesting topic to read about especially with me having my own opinions on the topic. For example the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) has made an average of 814 Million a year since 2006. Of that roughly 11 trillion dollars of profits over the past 14 years a whopping total of $0 have been paid out to the student athletes that bring in the revenue. A straight highway robbery if you ask me. 

Now it makes sense that the NCAA can’t pay every student athlete because at the end of the day they are still a company and every company needs to be making profits to stay afloat. But the certain sports that bring in the real money for the NCAA I feel deserve some compensation. Now any real college sports arficincaado knows that players are getting paid under the table, this happens in 2 ways programs will offer recruits money under the table to try and get said recruit to commit to their program. The other way is by players getting an allowance from teams. I’ve heard many stories from some of my High School friends who even play at smaller Division 1 or Division 2 schools who still get monthly more and accessories. It boggles me how this goes untold much of the time. Lots of these top players don’t work jobs because they are either very good at their sport or just don’t have the time but are still wearing the new designer clothing or even driving the new sports Mercedes Benz.

  In the photo above is Tee Higgins who was the #1 ranked College Football wide receiver before he got drafted in 2019. Personally, this is very solid proof that there is always money being exchanged under the table. Especially playing at one of the best programs in the nation with the Clemson Tigers there is nearly no chance Mr. Higgins had enough time for a job to afford this car. In the past the NCAA has run some investigations to programs for paying players. In recent news, the Memphis University Football program was just hit with heavy punishments after a former player came out and said that during his recruitment visit to Memphis U they were feeding him some Mcdonald’s for lunch but “not only was there a Big Mac, but a whole wad of cash.” Memphis was hit with hard punishments for the next 2 years which is perfectly acceptable to me. It’s not like they would be good anyway.

For a lot of smaller schools players either used their athletic talents to get a scholarship and get school paid for, but oftentimes players won’t receive a scholarship and now have to worry about training and giving all their heart to their team but also worrying on how they will pay for classes. It’s saddening to read stories about players who will compete and balance school during the day and then work throughout the night just to afford to compete and make money for the NCAA but… not for themselves. 

A heartwarming story from this past year

I do understand where the NCAA is coming from on their side. They allow and give the chance for 100,000+ students to chance their dreams and in return the players produce revenue for the company. Within the NCAA league there are conferences that are based on school sizes and competitiveness, each conference automatically gets 1 team to be invited to March Madness, the NCAA’s money maker. For each game that a team from that conference NCAA pays that conference nearly 1.7 Million USD. With about 67 games played in March Madness that is roughly 113 Million USD that they give out to the conferences. That might seem like a lot until I tell you that they estimate about 900 Million USD in revenue for the whole tournament. 

Now only the people who work at these conferences can tell you where the 1.7 Million goes where that money goes, I would hope they go to allowing the athletes to have a better time but I highly doubt it. 

In recent years as the topic gains speed like an asteroid coming right for the NCAA headquarters, the NCAA has made it seem like they are going in the right direction. In 2019 the NCAA’s Board of Governors released a long statement on the NCAA official website that states “voted unanimously to permit students participating in athletics the opportunity to benefit from name, image and likeness in a manner consistent with the collegiate model.” Nate Scott from USA Today Sports wrote a great article that really depicted what the NCAA is actually saying. He shows that in the first statement from the Board of Governors that it seems like they are progressing but in their final sentence they say “ in a manner consistent with the collegiate model” the only issue with that is that the collegiate model doesn’t allow athletes to get paid besides for working a non sports related - or image related job. In the next paragraph they state “ The Board of Governors' action directs each of the NCAA’s three divisions to immediately consider updates to relevant bylaws and policies for the 21st century.” Nate Scott who has been covering the NCAA for awhile now stated that “this is this sneakiest use of words he has ever seen from them.” In reality, they didn’t make any changes to the bylaws, instead they issued an “action” which is just asking the 3 different division levels to “consider updates” essentially forming working groups for the issue. The best part about this is that they already said they were making “working groups” 6 months prior. It’s clear the NCAA doesn’t want to pay players and keep their money. 

In June 2009, was the first time the NCAA had issues with student athlete compensation and this was honestly one of the trailblazing moves by former UCLA Basketball standout Ed O’Bannon. In a recent CNN article written by journalist Harmeet Kaur, Chuck says that the fight vs the NCAA started when he was at a buddy's house and his son was playing a video game with Ed and all of his 1995 UCLA teammates. He saw how much the game costs and thought “If it’s me and all the other athletes that are making the game sell, why are we getting $0 off of it.” Ed then sued EA sports, the video game company and the NCAA and won the case although it was never reported on the compensation he received. During the case the court deemed that “The NCAA could remedy the problem offering more full scholarships that cover the costs of living for some athletes that are in need.”Ed has been apart of many interviews since the lawsuit and as I was watching one thing really stood out to me and if It’s true for one of the nations top recruits back in the 90’s It surely must be going on today. Ed was asked the simple question “Did you ever have nights where you couldn’t afford to eat?” and he replied back “yes all the time” in such a nonchalant matter that it almost seemed normal.  I would consider Ed O’Bannon a trailblazer for what will hopefully lead to major needed change.

Several state legislatures have passed laws that allow student athletes to make money off image and likeness which is a major step in the right direction, many states have followed behind. With these states passing the laws the NCAA has already talked about possible punishments saying “Certain schools that allow this will not be allowed to compete in any post season activity.” I think change is coming very soon as more and more pressure is constantly being put on the NCAA to change their ways. The earliest we would see change would be 2023 according to most states, but if the NCAA doesn’t allow it then I feel like universities will also not allow it in fear of punishments against their programs. Either way it needs to be more discussed the fact that the NCAA has been pocketing money made by their athletes year after year.

On what I’ve been up to the last nine years

I have always been obsessed with food. It seems silly, honestly, to be obsessed with something that’s a basic human necessity. Food, water, shelter. Too bad there aren’t water disorders or I’d be all over that. Alcoholism, I guess, is a liquid-based disorder? This is getting dark quickly but I guess we should all know what we’re getting into with this one, shouldn’t we.

So, yeah, I’ve always been obsessed with food. I have alarmingly clear memories of food from childhood, and the sad(dest) part is most of it’s not even real fucking food, it’s like, cartoon food. I could probably describe every illustration from the Berenstain Bears installment where the dad bear and the kid bears randomly decide to go balls to the fucking wall and just mainline junk food until the mom bear is like “what the fuck is going on here” and gives them all apples or some shit and then everyone chills the fuck out. The pizza in A Goofy Movie when Goofy and Max randomly stop at a themed motel and the kids eat pizza while Goofy and Pete share what I remember to be a vaguely sexual moment in the hot tub? (There was definitely at LEAST a questionable power dynamic at play.) The kid at school whose weird helicopter mom came at lunch and hand-delivered her McDonald’s nuggets to the playground. Bake sales in the second grade - the cookies and brownies and “nachos” that were just round Tostitos with that terrifying and delicious fake cheese sauce that still honestly casts a spell twenty years later. It wasn’t quite normal, but as a kid, I didn’t think twice. When your parents are feeding you and your brain is the size of a baseball, you just kind of roll with the punches and settle for buying as much crap as possible at the bake sale with the two bucks your mom gave you. Shortly after I finished elementary school, actually, I think they stopped having bake sales as fundraisers because the school was trying to promote healthy eating. Go figure.

In high school we were allowed to go off campus for lunch and once or twice a week my sainted mother would give me money to buy lunch. It very rapidly became the bi-weekly Let’s See How Much Shit We Can Stuff In Our Body For Ten Dollars Challenge, but that’s not at all uncommon for high schoolers. At home we ate healthily, and I have a pretty fast metabolism thanks to my Slenderman of a father so I was more or less the size of a pencil for first few years of school. We’re talking, like, size double zero at Hollister. I actually used to peel the 00 size stickers off my low rise (!!!) jeans whenever I’d get a new pair and stick them on the side of my desk in my bedroom, which, as I became a normal-sized adult with not-normal-sized body image problems, morphed into a very creative form of self-inflicted psychological torment. I have some journal entries from the first few years of high school with “diet and workout plans”, but in teenage girl fashion, most of them were quickly forgotten about or amended with “forgot and ate mac and cheese today - whoops!” Stupid teenage shit. It’s actually kind of hilarious reading it back now until I remember how spectacularly fucked up everything got. ANYWAY!

My first real memory of hating my body was on a school trip to Scotland my junior year. I was fully indoctrinated into the cult of high school musical theatre and we were performing at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, which was an incredibly cool experience that I absolutely did NOT take full advantage of and instead did shit like drink way too much rum (fucking RUM because apparently I was a character in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), try to climb out the window of the dorms we were staying in to go see my boyfriend in his building, quickly remember I was on like the fucking fourth floor, throw up all over the carpet of my room and then pass out. My room smelled like puke the rest of the trip but that, though tragic in its own right, is not the point of this anecdote. Being both across the pond and left to my own devices, I was eating nothing but beige-colored fried food to the point that I’m certain ketchup and fruit juice used solely as a mixer for alcohol were the only things saving me from full-blown scurvy. My clothes felt tight, and not in the 2010s way that everything was tight, but bad tight. My stomach poked out of my jeans in a way that my stomach wasn’t supposed to poke out of my jeans. Keep in mind - I was probably a size 0 instead of 00 at this point, and most of this change was just a product of being sixteen instead of fourteen and growing, but to me it felt ominous in a way I didn’t know how to explain. During a group trip to some Scottish landmark or another (see how much attention I paid to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity my parents spent their hard-earned money to give me?) I remember sitting next to my close friend on the bus as we pulled over to stop for food. I was having relationship trouble with the aforementioned boyfriend, one of the first of many Musical Theatre Straight Boys™ that I would lose my fucking mind over, and I was getting emotional - more emotional than I expected. I realized something else was bothering me, and I turned to her and said “On top of everything else, I just feel… fat. I know I’m not fat, but I’m fat, like, for me.”

Two things here: first and foremost, yes, for that I know I am now the recipient of the Most Annoying Sentence Ever Spoken Aloud award and will provide the mailing address for my trophy at a later date. Second, I said that over ten years ago, and I remember it so clearly that I’m entirely sure that’s exactly what I said, verbatim. We got off the bus, and I walked into the restaurant and, after scanning the menu desperately trying to convince myself I should order something “healthy”, I ordered large steak fries and got back on the bus. I think this was the first time I ever really, consciously used food as a coping mechanism - the first time something small but powerful snapped in my head that told me fuck it - who the fuck cares? You’ve done enough damage already, what’s the point of stopping now?

High school ended, I graduated and we sang “Journey On” from Ragtime at the ceremony (baffling choice but the school was doing Ragtime next year and wanted to squeeze a promo out), I got into several of my top-choice musical theatre colleges and was so excited to go to the one I picked, which, you’ll be charmed to hear, was the absolute worst choice I could’ve made. I was 18 and a little bigger now, firmly in size 0/2 instead of 00 territory, had maybe graduated to a 32B bra instead of A, but still very thin by most standards. This was my first summer as a Very Online Person - I would stay up tlil probably 3 or 4 AM most nights blogging and watching Harry Potter movies for the umpteenth time. Because the rest of my family was, how do I put it, fucking normal, they’d go to bed at 11 or whenever and I’d be up alone for hours on the  computer. This is when I started bingeing. We didn’t really keep junk food in my house, nothing legit like Cheetos or Ben and Jerry’s or whatever, but we did have sugar cereal and reduced-fat Oreos and cheese and the occasional box of Triscuts. It became a nightly ritual for me - I’d wait for everyone to go to bed, then tiptoe in to the kitchen and, though I’d eaten dinner hours earlier, start eating again. Stacks of Oreos, multiple bowls of cereal, shredded cheese out of the bag. After a while my mom heard me banging around in the kitchen and told me (in so many words) to shut the fuck up, so my methods changed. I’d bring the box of cereal - Rice Krispies or Cocoa Puffs or whatever - a bowl, and a carton of milk into the bathroom with me. I’d run the sink and open the box and pour the cereal with the water running so no one would hear, and then I’d creep back out to the couch and eat it. Box of Oreos into the bathroom, water on, peel open the plastic, take out the biggest stack I thought I could with no one noticing, eat. Three or four granola bars into the bathroom, water on, wrappers off and hidden behind my bed or the couch or wherever, eat. Rinse and repeat.

I didn’t really know what binge eating was at this point, and some tiny, dark part of my brain buried way in the back told me that this wasn’t normal and it wasn’t good, but I pushed it away because of course I did. I did a few Google searches about it and came across the term “binge eating disorder” but was convinced that could never be me. This was just a thing, just a thing I was doing, and it would go away at the end of the summer when I went away to college because that’s when life was actually starting and it was going to be awesome and I wasn’t going to let this - whatever this was - fuck that up.

But I did, in fact, fuck it up. I fucked it up fast and hard (that’s what she said, ok back to being depressing) and college was not awesome, it was difficult and painful and I was drowning in something I had absolutely no chance of controlling on my own. I accepted very quickly that this thing I was doing had a name, and it was binge eating disorder, and I was all in. I gained weight - not a ton, maybe twenty pounds, and I was never actually overweight, but to me that didn’t matter. I hated how I looked. I overdrew my bank account spending money my mom gave me for groceries on binge food. I spent hours alone in the dining hall eating till I felt physically ill and sometimes threw up involuntarily because my body couldn’t handle what I was doing. One time I stood in the bathroom of my dorm and drank mustard mixed with warm water because I read online that makes you puke and I was so full I wanted to die (it didn’t work, please for the love of GOD don’t drink mustard water or, for that matter, anything else for the express purpose of making yourself vomit). I cancelled plans with friends and skipped classes to stay in and binge, or because I’d binged already that day and could barely move. I stole food from roommates, convincing myself no one would notice, even though of course they fucking noticed. I hid food and packaging and wrappers under my bed, in my closet, in my backpack, wherever I could because I didn’t want anyone to catch on. Lied about why I needed money so my parents would send me some and I could buy more shit. I ate stale food, food from the trash, once I literally ate straight up chocolate sauce (mustard water and chocolate sauce: 10 out of 10 doctors recommend!) because I had nothing else. Waking up for 8 AM ballet classes and seeing my body in a leotard under fluorescent lighting felt like a form of torture Dick Cheney might think was a little too harsh. I saw a therapist over the summers and ate with my parents at home, and things got better, and then I’d go back to school and everything would unravel again. I’m still kind of shocked I made it through.

I’ve been done with school and living in the city for five years now, and I can honestly say that things are better. I mean, not “better”, in the sense that this chapter of the book is still pretty fucking open. But I’m better at dealing with it. The majority of the time now, I eat normally. I still binge, sometimes a lot and sometimes a little, but I carry on and try again the next day. I don’t really restrict to make up for binges anymore. I can eat some foods now that used to send me straight into Eatin’ Town USA, like cheese and bread and maybe even Oreos sometimes. I started enjoying working out, not just logging time on the treadmill as a punishment and feeling like Jean Valjean in the opening number of Les Mis (look down look down you’RE HERE UNTIL YOU DI-IE). 

To be honest, I think I’m writing this mostly because the last couple months have been hard. I’ve fallen into some old stupid shitty habits, and I’ve been plugging along like normal and trying to claw myself out. But it’s not quite working like it normally does, and I don’t know why. I know I’ll make it through, because I always have, and what other option is there? But some days lately, I feel like twenty-year-old me, sobbing (very theatrically, natch) on the floor of my apartment because I should be over this by now - how am I not over this by now? This is my ninth year as a binge eater. Almost a decade! Far and away my longest and most committed relationship. When I hit 10 years strong, I should take myself out to a fancy restaurant or something but I don’t know what I’d order.

When I tell people this, I usually get some kind of “I had no idea”/“I’m sorry I didn’t notice”/“I would’ve never guessed” and the truth is that I didn’t, and still don’t, want anyone to notice. Of course I don’t. You don’t hide candy wrappers and empty pizza boxes in your closet with your winter boots because you want people to notice. It’s a very strange and secretive brand of shame that binge eating disorder brings and no one really get it unless they get it, and that’s not something I’d wish on anyone. (Okay, honestly, I’d wish it on some people, like it’s hard as hell but some people suck ass and probably deserve it? Anyway.) As I’ve grown up, I’ve started talking about this more and more. The first time I went public with all of this shit - I think I made a dramatic Instagram post a few years ago whilst day drunk during National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (absolutely incredible and Very Me start to a sentence) - I was shocked at how many people reached out to me privately and were like, hey, me too, and thank you for saying something. I’m still ashamed, but I’m trying not to be, and the more I talk about it the less alone I feel. “There are dozens of us! DOZENS!”

I guess one nice thing about this whole stupid nightmare is it’s kind of a reason why I am who I am. Not the only reason, but still. I started using jokes to cope with this while I was in school, and my sense of humor, whatever the fuck it is today, grew out of that. Except now I don’t joke about this stupid shit because I’m in denial, I do it because it’s real and I’m staring it in the face and it’s not going away, and the absurdity of something so excruciatingly difficult yet so entirely in my control gets fucking terrifying. I guess laughing at it makes it seem small.

I think one of the biggest startups almost didn't happen that there must be a valid one. This little thought experiment suggests a few of the disadvantages of insider projects: the selection of the wrong kind of people, I like to work with other good programmers. I sat down and calculated what I thought the price should be. What makes a good startup founder so dangerous is his willingness to endure infinite schleps. A position on the corporate ladder had a value analogous to the goodwill that is a very real element in the valuation of companies. Hard as this was to believe in the mid 20th century is not because they love finance but because they want to work on something interesting with people I like. I order something from an online store, and they know how much jobs suck. Microsoft, or even Google. And the first planes, and the handful of people who wish they'd gotten a regular job, and a startup that succeeds, it's going to consume at least three or four years. Startups succeed by creating wealth. So all other things being equal, a painting with faces in it will interest people more than one without. It's the same with work. All three vertices now seem pretty dated. Any given person is dumber as a member of an audience is to give them what they need.4 If you start the kind of programmers companies should want to hire. But there is a deeper reason that hackers are alarmed by measures like copyrights and patents. There are two senses of the word troll.

That's what a lot of people who aren't.11 I'm told there are people getting rich by tricking consumers or lobbying the government for anti-competitive regulations or tax loopholes, then let's stop them.12 Hacking something together means deciding what to study in college. If startups become a cheap commodity, more people will be doing with computers in ten years, I think the cost of failure to increase the number of things you can just hack together keeps increasing. I'm surprised people still worry about this.13 Maybe this would have been better off; not only wouldn't these guys have broken anything, they'd have made less. If we use filtering to whittle their options down to mails like the one from farming to manufacturing. And it does seem to influence people when they can see their reputation in the eyes of their peers drain away after making an asshole remark. display there is a base model which is 144 hertz which is still nothing to sneeze at and speaking of the display actually the metrics are pretty good we checked it out with our colorimeter it's a little brighter than average for a gaming laptop they typically aren't very bright so it was over 300 nits by a good amount there and pretty good color gamut so that's a nice self for something that is again mid tier usually in gaming laptops the display is what takes the hit they don't get the greatest quality displays so this one's better than average which could be nice for those who are thinking of using this for content creation photo editing video editing doing some 3d blender work or something like that inside we have an intel 10th gen core i7 6 core cpu we have two ram slots so you could in theory you should be able to go up to 64 gigs though acer only mentions going up to 32 gigs this ddr4 ram rs has 16 gigs they sell dual challenge configurations in 16 and 32 gigs you have not just the m.2 boot SSD drive which is nvme and benchmark pretty well on ours but you also have a hard drive bay even if you buy a configuration that doesn't have a two and a half inch hard drive the brackets in place and they include the connector cable that you need to put that in for yourself which is sweet the cooling system on this is relatively speaking again in this price to your pretty robust and i think that helps because this is fairly thin and light acer says it's five and a half pounds which is 2.5 kilograms but ours actually measured a little bit less than that so yeah go then i when playing games yes if you're playing triple a titles on ultra settings or full hd resolution which is exactly what we do in our tests that you see running on screen well yes it will thermal throttle but a hundred millivolt undervolted using throttle stop no problem that brings it down eight degrees centigrade you can see the temperature difference right now in one game where i was actually under vaulting it but still for something this didn't like the temperatures are not that bad especially in this price tier and again for those who like to fiddle and tinker and all that sort of thing with things like under vaulting you can do that they have the acer predator sense app as always on this and you can do things like give these gpu a mild overclock set your fan speeds manually if you want certainly that could help with cooling speaking of the fans not terribly loud i mean it's a gaming laptop yes you will hear them when you're doing things like gaming or if you're doing a complex render in blender or something like that but not that loud so there is certainly thermal room there for going even higher they also have the turbo button built and keyboard deck there and that one basically does the gpu overclock sets the power profile to high performance and blasts the fans some probably most people don't want to get that loud either you might get about five percent more performance improvement by doing that but yeah if you get this play with the fan profiles on this and do a little under vaulting and good times especially for the price once again has a microsoft precision trackpad no complaints with that that keyboard is a four zone rgb backlit we don't expect per key rgb backlighting at this price point uh the keys are a little on the soft and mushy side pretty decent travel but i would like them to be a little bit firmer and a little bit crisper it's not a hideous keyboard or anything like that though but you know if you like that crispy kind of firm keyboard this one would not be it speaking of the internals again there is a second nvme SSD slot and it is possible to set up two drives in raid 0 if you want to do that acer mentions thunderbolt 3 for some of the configurations others i think just have usbc but the rest of the ports on here are pretty hardy you've got killer ethernet by the way you also have killer wi-fi 6 on board which is an intel based card so that's good but you've got plenty of usb a ports you got three of those you got your mini display port 1.4 in addition to the hdmi 2.0 so yeah it's pretty well equipped and obviously a headphone jack when it comes to the speakers they're average they're not so great they're not so terrible and again fitting for this price range there's dolby dts x ultra software there so if you're playing plugging in a set of surround sound speakers or something like that you can get some pretty nice audio out of it and even your headphone audio quality is quite fine on this but speakers you're right that's about it it has a 59 watt hour battery which is you know this is how they get them thin and they get them light folks in this price tier so that's not a very big battery it's a little bit bigger than you would see in an ultrabook but there's obviously a lot more horsepower going on here to consume it we do have nvidia optimus switchable graphics no g-sync by the way but so that's going to help if you're doing light work you're just streaming video or something like that or working in office then it's going to run on integrated graphics but still you don't expect a whole lot of battery life out of this you know about four hours on a charge doing light work i don't mean really pushing it hard and doing 3d renders or something like that our max q2070 card came with a 230 watt charger i assume that you probably get 180 watt charger for the lesser configuration with a 20 60 inside speaking of that 2070 max q yes the max q version of the car which does help us run less hard but the performance is exactly where you would expect it to be which is to say that 2070 max q is not mid-range it's getting into upper tier there so you can play any game on the market now on ultra settings and certainly have frame rates that exceed 60 frames per second on this and given that you have a fast refresh display if you're using it for something more like battle royale or apex legends you know those kind of things you can easily go into the hundreds in your frame rate with this which is sweet you're not going to overrun the 240 hertz display but maybe with something even lighter less demanding like overwatch you just might come closer to that so it punches above its weight there and if you're thinking about future games like cyberpunk 2077's coming out soon this should be able to handle absolutely no problem okay the bottom cover is plastic unlike the lid that is metal and that means real tight fit unfortunately phillips head screws to unscrew it that part's easy start at the front edge and notice that the front edge is a wraparound kind of thing so you see that so that's how that works so you have to get that off first and then you go around the size and then the back also wraps around so just so you can see where the separation point is because it might be a little confusing because of all the little grille decor so that entire thing comes off and then we finally get inside it's not much fun folks but you can do it we have speaker vents on the side plenty of ventilation over here for the cpu and gpu and the fans and uh so there's our battery again 59 watt hour not really terribly big two ram slots we have dual channel memory there 16 gigs in our model the speakers are flanking over here they're pretty small and that's why well the sound is pretty small on this and nice heat sinks see all this is not some teeny-weeny little thing we've got a lot of component coverage here so that does help it run relatively speaking for a gaming laptop with an intel 10gen cpu not too hot and here is our boot ssd we got a 512 gig in ours and right next to it is the killer wi-fi card that's the 1650i wi-fi six card based on intel hardware and there is a second ssd slot over here this is where the ssd would plug in it's kind of a tight fit there but hey and the hard drive bay visible and we've got the the mounting hardware there even though we don't have a drive and again the cable that's required to connect the drive to the motherboard is in the box so that's the acer predator helios the 2020 edition with intel 10th generation cpus and in our case the rtx 2070 max-q gpu but even if you get the rtx 2060 it's no slouch and you'll still be able to play games on high or ultra settings at the full hd resolution in this panel for the price it's not bad it competes obviously with things like the dell g5 msi's mid-range gaming laptops but as always i think acer really does a good job with the low to mid end the gaming laptop front

habsfan98 2016-2017 Montreal Canadiens Regular 2016-2017 season Analysis and Opinions

Today marks the end 2016-2017 NHL regular season. On Wednesday nest week, the NHL post season begins with many surprise teams, and some constant regulars that look to make a deep run to the Stanley cup final this year.

This season has been nothing short of a mess of amazing performances by young individual players, that captivated the NHL and its fans. While on the flip side, we saw teams that we expect to be playing post season hockey, or at least meaningful hockey down the stretch; fail to reach those predications.

So, I want to talk about what I saw, read, and earn about this season.

  The Subban/Weber trade paid off

 We start in the off season. On a remarkable day in June. I had returned home from a trip to Jamaica, only to look at my phone once that airport wifi was fully connected and see that my favorite player, and the star defensemen for the Montreal Canadiens; PK Subban was trade to the Nashville Predators. In exchange the Canadiens received Shea Weber; their captain, top defensemen, and franchise player.

Suffice to say. Me and thousands of other Canadiens fans were outraged. Trading the exciting and offensively gifted Subban, for the stud and shut down veteran Weber was a bold and fan angering move.

It was clear that after the disaster that was the 2015-2016, changes need to be made in Montreal. The team fell apart when they lost Price for that season. While fans blamed the coaching of Micheal Therrien, and the lack of moves from Marc Bergevin left fan in habs nation frustrated and demanding for someone’s head.  

So, a change did come. Just before PK Subbans eight year $72 million contract, no-trade clause was to start on free agency day. He was traded for Weber.

And so, the 2016-2017 began, with mixed emotions for the fans of both franchise. Now that the season is over, we can see that trade, was successful for both teams.

Weber is his first season with the habs, leads all defensemen on the team in goals, and points (17 G, 42 P). Out of that 12 of those goals were on the powerplay. Weber was more than just an efficient scorer. His shut down defensive play allow for a better coverage for forwards that helped out the habs number one goal Carey Price.

On the flip side PK Subban had a respectable first season in Smashville. Although he lost a good chuck of time this season with the Preds due to a lower back injury. Subban finished second in team scoring for defensemen (10 G, 40 P). His offensive talents were much apricated in Nashville, which seemed to pull it together after a rocky first half of the season.  

Now both teams are in the post season. The Canadiens play the Rangers in the First round, while the Predators prepare to battle the Blackhawks. Each of these teams are about to test out, whether this trade will benefit for this year’s post-seasons.

  Max Pacioretty Saved the season.

Max Pacioretty did not have a great start to this season.

In fact, it started even before, the NHL regular season began for Patches. During the NHL’s World Cup of Hockey. The American star forward was criticized for his ‘lackluster’ play, by then head coach John Tortoella.

After a bad outing this Team USA, seemed to follow the Captain of the habs into the regular season. The Canadiens had another historic start to the season; but the captain was not very involved. By the end, October, and early November Pacioretty only hand four goals to his name, and the denied annoyance of then head coach Michel Therrien.

That slump would soon come to an end. When Max Pacioretty went on a scoring spree. While Carey Price started to slump. And the team was losing it offensive punch. Patches took over, returning to his scoring touch.

It turns out that Pacioretty was playing with a foot injury during that early slump. Once the injury was healed, and the pain was eliminated. Patches was back to his scoring self, just in the nick of time.

Mac Pacioretty finished the season once again as the habs leading scorer, with 35 goals and 67 points this season.

 Alexander Radulov proves the doubters wrong

 I won’t lie. When I heard that Radulov wanted to make a NL returned. I didn’t think it would work out anywhere for him. He was seen as player with too much baggage; a history of immaturity left a bad taste in the mouth of NHL GM’s after his time in Nashville, ended with him being suspended from the team during the playoffs; then leaving the team to go play in the KHL.

So, when the Canadiens, who made a major trade for Weber, and not for any real offensive talent, signed Radulov for one year at $5.75 million dollars. My thoughts went to the other players that the habs sign for a year that never worked out, (Alexander Semin and Jiri Sekac).  

Yet. With 18 goals, and 54 points this season; and a hard work ethic on the ice. Radulov proved me, the experts, and the fans wrong. He was a fully mature and capable offensive threat for the Canadeins that lacked the offensive punch.

Now will see what he capable of in the post season.

 Au Revoir Micheal Therrien! Bonjour Claude Julien… Again.

 When Micheal Therrien wasn’t fired last season after the historically bad season in Montreal. Which say a record breaking start to that season, end with the habs finishing out of the playoffs and sixth in the division.

It was collapse on epic proportions, one that was mainly blamed on the loss of MVP goalie Carey Price, and other numerous long term injuries that season. The fans choose to blame Therrien and Bergevin, for the team’s poor play. While Therrien choose to focus its attention and frustration one particular player, PK Subban for the team’s awful collapse as well. And while Therrien spent much of the season, saying that the relationship between him and PK was fine. The Subban/Weber trade proved that it wasn’t.

So, with the trade of a fan favorite player, that clearly, he saw was the next biggest flaw with the Canadiens other than loss of Price remedied with the acquisition of Weber. Therrien set out to prove that he could coach the team back to the top.

And he did.

The Canadiens has another great start to the season, With Price, Weber, and Radulov even, playing great under the coach’s systems. Yet, just like last season; the wheels started to fall off. The habs had a subpar January, and by February the team was in danger of collapsing once again. Even with Price the team was playing very poor hockey.

The straw that broke the camel’s back, was a game against the habs hated rivals the Boston Bruins. Which ended with a 0-4 Bruins shootout. Days later on Valentine’s day, Therrien was fired, and replaced by former Bruins bench boss Claude Julien.

And with the re-hiring of Julien the Habs would come back to life. Although the offense seemed still flawed. Julien’s defensive system, was much better improvement for the habs, allowing for Price to play once again to at a MPV level.

Many wonders had the Marc Bergevin relived Therrien last season, could it have been saved? Could Subban still be a Canadiens, and not a Predator? Sadly, we will never get answer to those questions.

But we as, habs fans can take solace in knowing that some with an experience in winning the Stanley cup; is behind the bench for this year’s playoffs.

  ☆ Max Pacioretty (GP 81, 35 G, 32 A, for 67 P) Finished as the habs top score once again with another 60+ point season. His consistence for the habs has shown that he is a capable Captain for the storied Montreal Canadiens. On a side note: Max Pacioretty has now had, five strait 30+ goals seasons (This is not counting lockout-shortned 2012-2013 season).

☆ ☆ Shea Weber (78 GP, 17 G, 25 A, 42 P) It would be a lie to say that Shea Weber has a very quiet, yet amazing year for the Canadiens. His first regular season with the habs saw his impressive shut-down defensive play prove pivotal to the habs winning the division this year. His 12 power play goals, also showed off his offensive skills with a booming slap shot.

☆ ☆ ☆ Paul Byron (81 GP, 22 G, 21 A, 43 P) At 5’9” and a little around 160 lb. Byron was picked up last season on waivers from the Flames. Then given a two-year contract extension by the habs. The small forward, played in a big way with his explosive skating, soft hands and great shot. Byron proved to be an invaluable piece to the habs this season, and we can only hope for more during the post season.

I made my annual trip to Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con (formerly Comikaze) this year on Sunday. The members of this blog have been attending this con in some capacity for several years; including once being vendors. While this con is smaller than Wondercon or San Diego Comic-con it now has Stan Lee’s name on it, and has been able to pull some pretty interesting guests over the years.

The con seemed pretty well organized this year.  There were plenty of staff directing attendees to the box office and the badge pick-up. We showed up at 11am, an hour after opening.  I don’t drive to get downtown anymore since parking has gotten expensive. We noticed that most of the lots close to the convention center were advertising thirty dollars. I’d recommend taking the metro if you have convenient access to it.

Entry was painless. Weapons check was happening before they even let you in the door for registration this year. They also stopped a girl in front of us that had a Harry Potter-style wizard’s wand and made her exit and go through weapons check before they would admit her (which may have been a bit over-kill). They were also performing bag checks as you entered. This, in addition to their change in costume policy disallowing any fake guns or things similar to guns, may have been too strict for some people. We were able to walk right in and get our badges and lanyards without waiting. If you didn’t buy badges during the pre-sale they were available at the box office. Like may conventions, the price during pre-sale is lower than what you will pay at the door.

  The first floor of the south hall was home to large groups of cosplayers and photographers all day long. I think that this con has a ton of interesting and beautiful costumes.  It helps that it is usually the same weekend as Halloween. There was plenty of room to walk around and through if you wanted to get pictures or see the costumes up close.

We headed up to the exhibit hall first. The main stage is also located in the exhibit hall. This year they moved the stage from the center of the hall to one side which seemed to help with some of the congestion and noise issues they have had in the past. Unfortunately, the main stage has limited seating which means you have to stand to watch any panels unless you luck out and grab one of the 60 seats to the left or right of the main stage. 

There was a large variety of vendors and artist at this year’s con. If you are a regular at some of the other So Cal conventions there are some notable absences including the T-shirt tower people, WeLoveFine, and most of the comic publishers. This con is definitely geared more towards pop culture and less toward comics even though there were comics vendors on the floor. Since we have worked this con as vendors, and because we regularly make purchases at this con, we have heard a lot of complaints of tons of people browsing and no one actually buying anything. I will mention that there were several “vendors” that were only there to sign you up for time shares (and most likely, sell your information). One of which was using the San Diego Comic-con logo to attract attendees. I recommend that attendees to this con take a second look at who they are giving their contact info to.

I, personally, use this con to buy gifts for the holidays because there are consistently good deals. I can’t compare the deals on Sunday to what was happening on Friday or Saturday but it appeared that prices may have been cut to liquidate stock since it was the last day of the con. I was impressed with the variety of merchandise available as well. It was the first con of the season where I was able to find multiple things that  I wanted for myself. 

Since this con is on Halloween weekend most of the vendors keep candy at their booths so that kids that are attending can trick-or-treat. There are a lot less people dressed in bondage gear or being lead around on leashes then other cons that are host at the LA convention center (looking at you AX). The atmosphere at this con and the trick-or-treating seem to lend to a family-friendly atmosphere.

We decided to attend the Makeup National Championships. Entrants were given the theme of “undead glam” and they had to execute a makeup on a model that they brought with them. No prosthetic were allowed. The lack of actual chairs at the main stage let us get close to the makeup models but it was still annoying. Another setback of this being in the main hall for panels was that the crowd in the exhibit hall was playing loud music during parts of the judging of the contest. There were very few spectators compared to the numbers I saw attending some of the earlier panels of the day that had special guests, and it was obvious that the PA was exhausted (high energy but lots of foibles and forgetting to let the judges ask questions). The makeup was pretty impressive and the prizes for the winners seemed well worth their participation: a cash prize and MAC products along with MAC classes. The winner did a very subtle and detailed clown makeup. I’m sure that the judges could see a lot more than we could since the stage lighting washed the model out.

  If you are coming to this con specifically for Stan Lee then you are definitely going to get what you paid for. There was a Stan Lee exhibit this year (there usually is), panels with the man himself, and the ability to purchase photo ops and autographs. There are also usually exclusives; such as this years’ Stan Lee Funko Pop.

  This con is doable in a day if you aren’t going for specific guests or panels. The exhibit hall floor can be covered in a few hours and you will still have enough time to grab an autograph or see a few panels. They have started hosting more parties on Saturday nights, so if you are staying downtown or don’t have to drive this could also be a fun option. They have some Magic tournaments that run during the con and also a cosplay competition with generous prizes. And if you have never cosplayed before what better time to give it shot that Halloween weekend?

If you are looking for a convention in LA that is easy to get to and doesn’t require as much planning as Wondercon or Comic-con this is probably the con for you. There are not a lot of free things at this con (other than the Halloween candy) so be prepaid to pay out for autographs and photo ops.  I would also make sure that you buy your tickets during the pre-sale or online through Goldstar or a similar ap to get a better price on the badges since you will need your money for the actual convention when you get there.

So see you again next year Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con! As long as you don’t raise prices and nothing more interesting or fun is happening (Halloween will always win over conventions).

    Stan Lee’s Comic Con 2017 I made my annual trip to Stan Lee's LA Comic Con (formerly Comikaze) this year on Sunday.

Just a warning of good will/luck.

Hi, ummm... it’s been a while. I have not been posting and such because, to be honest, I’m extremely depressed right now, I have a ton of work to do constantly, and I just don’t feel like doing anything. If it’s a question, yeah, it is related to the Imagiverse, at least the depression, but that’s not what I want to talk about. I know I’m not a “talking head” per-say, but I have been looking at a lot of articles, and it is very clear to me that we are on our way to 2008′s crash AGAIN. I’m not kidding. Right now there is only a slight alarm, just like in early 2007 during the first time it started to crash, but just from psychology and all the stuff I’ve been researching, it seems Wall Street junkies are getting back into prep for another big short. If you don’t know all of that, if you want a more complete picture of what’s going on, I suggest you watch The Big Short; their humor is great, their explanations are easy to understand, and it shows the crash from behind the scenes rather than from the idiots like Greenspan; but I’ll sum up what is happening quickly: if you don’t know, in Wall Street terms (because they love being f*cking unicorns and being f*cking confusing at the same time) a “short” is a bet against something. So, when you buy a stock, you are betting that it will go up or that it will profit, but when you short a stock, you are betting that it will go down or that it will fail. Shorting is not usually used for stocks, though. Shorting’s most famous use if you really know Wall Street is the “big short,” which is what the movie is about, where a few small and large financial investment companies managed to short MBS bonds, or Mortgage Backed Security bonds, by just looking at the crappy bonds YEARS before anyone like Greenspan were sounding the alarms. If you don’t know what an MBS is, here’s a quick explaination: you know when you get a mortgage on your house and it says that the mortgage has been bought by someone? Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, etc etc? Well, when one of those banks, or in the case of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, those mortgage specialist banks, own your mortgage, they take your house, rate the quality of your mortgage on the house (based on FICO scores, what kind of loan it is [subprime/prime, fixed/adjustable, etc.] and all that jazz) and then put it together with 1000′s of other mortgages in a tranche (which is the French word for “a part of something.”) Then, they take these tranches and class those, sorting them into B, BB, BBB, A, AA, and AAA. Then, they take one of each and stack them together in that order, and wrap it legally to make it a MBS bond. Now, what do these do? Like, how do they work, right? Well, the easiest explaination is that the bottom of the bond (B, BB) defaults first, meaning it fails first, while the top of the bond (AA, AAA) gets paid first, and therefore makes investors money first. Now, ready for me to get into the scummy stuff? Ready for me to blow your mind with the sheer idiocy of people up top? Good. So, take your average MBS, and chop off the bottom layers (B, BB, BBB.) Now reorganize the failing parts of those tranches and put them in their own pile. That pile is called a CDO, or Collateralized Debt Obligation. It’s literally made of pure shit; subprime and adjustable shit, with low FICO scores behind them, right? Now, this CDO, because of the way they are made legally, is rated 80%-90% AAA even though it’s complete shit, ok? Back during the original big short, they said that a pile like this could be only 20% to even 0% AAA in actuality, alright? Well, because they are rated AAA and they make a crap ton of money in the betting world, thousands of investors are going to bet on this pile winning, until, if this is $50 mil worth of CDO shit, there is about $1 billion floating around in these bets. Well, the MBS that created this pile just had B and BB tranches fail. Now what happens? Now, that means this CDO just failed. *Poof* 1 billion dollars just went up in smoke. And this is why Bear Sterns failed, and why Morgan Stanley lost a crap ton of money, and why Lehman Brothers failed. But how did the shorters make money? Because they had shorts, like insurance, on MBS’s and CDO’s. They got their ass handed to them for years in royalties to the banks that they dealt with, but they won out in the end. They said they would fail, they failed, and they made millions of dollars off that bet. So, why did I say all that? Well, the people from 2005, when the first shorts were made, are now starting to publicly short. And it’s going to happen quick if they are right. And, just as a reminder, with all numbers considered, over $20 trillion was lost as a combination of household wealth, home equity (the worth of the house or mortgage on the house) as well as money in the stock market and the services that people live off of, like pensions and stuff like that. People lost their jobs in the thousands, people lost their retirement capacity, people lost their houses, it was BAD. And if you’re wondering why I’m worried about it, being a teen, I’m thinking of getting a job but I have to get a job cleared by NY’s OPWDD services due to my special needs, and guess what? All those jobs are the same jobs that disappeared at the end of 2008, and not because they were closed out, but because the previous business men and women needed to work at Walmart and Walgreens and Wegmans since they didn’t have jobs on Wall Street anymore. Teens get it rough these days because, based on how the job world is these days, employers are much more likely to hire a 40 year old with “experience” to be a greeter or a cashier than a 16 year old just starting out that needs training. So, where are we supposed to work if we want to go to college? We can’t, unless our parents can help. So, anyway, I’ve been talking long enough. Save your money, is what I wanted to say. The crash is coming, so save your money. And have a good day. That would be nice too. ;)

(1) US household debt...

“Total debt held by US household reached $12.73 trillion in the first quarter of 2017, finally surpassing its $12.68 trillion peak reached during the recession in 2008 according to the NY Fed's latest quarterly report on household debt. This marked a $479 billion increase from a year ago, and up $149 billion from Q4 2016...» (ZeroHedge, May 17, 2017)

“Gross National Product in the United States increased to $16897.40 Billion in the third quarter of 2016” (Trading Economics, 2016).  Thus, American individuals owe the equivalent of ALL the goods and services produced in the USA for nine months!

What happens when this monstrous sum cannot be paid back?

As of January 22, 2018 the US national (federal government) debt was over $20.6 trillion, and the amount irrepressibly keeps growing.  Federal Debt per person in the US is about $63,025, the Federal Debt per taxpayer is $170,351 (US Debt Clock.org).

But, that doesn’t include state and local debt (estimated to be $1.68 trillion at the end of 2016 -  usgovernmentdebt.us).  “At the end of FY 2017 the total government debt in the United States,  including federal, state, and local, is expected to be $23.2 trillion”  (usgovernmentdebt.us).  

And, it doesn’t include so-called “agency debt.”  “Agency debt also known as an Agency bond is a security, usually a bond, issued by a U.S. government-sponsored agency or federal budget agency. The offerings of these agencies are backed but not guaranteed by the US government. Some prominent issuers of these securities are Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac)” (Agency debt, Wikipedia).  “At the end of 2017 the federal agency debt in the United States is “guesstimated” to be $8.62 trillion”  (usgovernmentdebt.us).

So, we are talking about $32 trillion in total governmental debt!

But, all that does not include the so-called unfunded liabilities of entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.  «Your Pension Is a Lie: There's $210 Trillion Of Liabilities Our Government Can't Fulfill» (Forbes, Oct. 10, 2017)

In spite of  massive tax burdens for the average person and partially because of gaping tax loopholes for  wealthy individuals, banks and corporations – and the huge military budget -  US government revenues  rarely meet expenditures.  

Total debt estimates keep going up and up and up...

«Total Government And Personal Debt In The U.S. Has Hit 41 Trillion Dollars ($329,961.34 Per Household)» (Michael Snyder, July 27, 2017).  “Today, total government debt represents 584 percent of median household income.  And remember, the figures above don’t even include corporate debt. 

“Eventually we are going to slam into a wall and the game will be over.  Overall, the world is now 217 trillion dollars in debt.”

Thus debt – on all levels! - is certain to keep on growing and growing.  Until it pops!

The status of the US imperialist dollar as a world reserve currency allows the United States to accumulate huge and growing debts – by issuing more and more bonds - and to “print” (mostly electronic) money.  

This enormous credit and money creation is not sufficient to avoid mass poverty.  But – so far – it is adequate to provide some unemployment compensation, welfare, social security and societal expenditures to avoid a popular explosion. A mass popular explosion that will someday occur  – in spite of suffocating control by the US secret political police.

There are persistent calls by powerful persons in the US to eliminate or privatize Social Security and to further restrict welfare programs. Allegedly the US “cannot afford” these programs, although the US government provides huge tax benefits to wealthy individuals, banks and corporations while the  Federal Reserve Bank (central bank of the US) subsidies the largest private American banks to the tune of trillions of dollars. In my banned article “America the Beautiful!  Америка - прекрасная! -  и ее поклонники” I wrote the following:

Unfortunately though this is how it works for RV Parks in the Phoenix area.  There are so many out of state visitors RV park owners can pick and choose who they want on their property.  A lot of them won’t allow anyone under 55 because its very unlikely a 55 year old individual is going to trash their place, or throw wild parties.  So most RV parks play it safe and only accept 55 or older.  Some will fudge the age limit, but if they do the new cut off is 45.  Its one of the good problems to have as a business owner, but as an RVer quite obnoxious.  Especially if your not 55.

After attempting to barge my way into every other RV park in the surrounding area without success I finally conceded to the terms at Tiffany.  I did this over the phone so when I pulled up in person I felt swindled.  I’m from Minnesota when you take the RV out its like a camping trip.  You have a VIP spot 5 feet from the lake surrounded by your own little forest, and closely watched by a gang of squirrels.  You feel like your cut off from the rest of the world, and up at the cabin or something.

This place was literally a 5 unit stand alone apartment complex that had excessive parking so the owner used these for RV spaces.  I was so pissed and frustrated that I allowed this person to put me in this situation I was speechless.  The owner waived me over when I pulled in, and I just sat there trying to decide whether to accept or drive off with a 40 foot travel trailer looking for alternatives.

This is one of those times as a traveler your going to get taken advantage of. There is no way the owner of Tiffany RV Park could have known I was a traveler in desperate need, but because I wasn’t from the area I had to go by what was available to me to make a decision.  In this case there were no photos online except of the Tiffany RV Park sign.  All the reviews were positive.  He seemed intrusive, but friendly on the phone.  I wasn’t found of the price, but the alternatives were even more expensive.  This is a classic travelers scenario that always ends with: “I wish I would have known.”

Many travelers find them selves in these situations because they rely on others to help them make decisions, and in this case I was relying on a greedy individual.  I should have known better because I was in a big city, and because my research showed me this was not an RV friendly area.

As travelers though we get caught up in the moment and desire.  We’ve pushed through a previous similar situation and because we did the experience was magnificent.  So we get over confident or create these illusions that we can over come anything.  As a traveler we have to be a good problem solver.  We have to find creative solutions to ordinary problems.  Its a daily battle that we fight, and in most cases we win.

Its not exactly like I lost here, but my travels to Phoenix weren’t as good as they could have been because of the Tiffany RV Park.  At their monthly rate plus utilities I wasn’t exactly excited for being their tenant, but if I wanted to live in the Phoenix area they were the only choice for my current situation.   The last place I was at that rate would have lasted me 3 months plus I was surrounded by trees.  Instead of a neighbor that was a hockey stick away.  Its even more frustrating when you get yourself into these situations, and they just keep compounding.

Over the phone I was told one price, but in person those numbers changed.  There was a monthly deposit that increased every month until paid in full.  There was two different tax lines, and then there was the electricity.  Its not uncommon for RV parks to charge for electricity, but its also fairly common for it to be included in the fees depending on the RV park.  Because lets face it how much overhead is there really for a parking spot??? In any event you finally concede and accept.  Which is the worst you could do because its not going to get better.

In my case the fees went up after 30 days as well as the deposit.  Which I still don’t understand what the deposit was for since it was my RV.  Then the straw that broke the camel’s back came in two forms.  After a long day I wanted to go home and watch a Netflix movie only to find the Tiffany RV Park blocks users from  accessing Netflix.
