actually taking the time to read through what would be considered the antagonist's motives in eroica, only to find out theyre more sympathetic than the main characters (major specifically) will ever be. you mean this nato engineer became so moved by the pope he stole US secrets and ran away??? by all means let me shake the mans hands

#i love it as much as the next guy but fewl is deeply deeply conservative #it is way more on the side of the major than eroica's #that meaning natos side than the side of a gay man #like it goes beyond the kgb plots. anybody who disagrees with nato or the cia or even the sis in fewl is considered an antagonist #which is fine. but they are not given a sliver of sympathy from the writer #like its been a while but in emperor waltz theres the character of the cia officer who literally had a breakdown and leaked state secrets #and hes just treated as a crazy man. theres no explaining his motives other than that hes a nuisance to the major and nato #but overall what im tryna say is that eroica never was 'progressive' ESPECIALLY by our standards #an it feels wrong 2 me so sell it as anything more than 'oh theres a couple gay characters and a fun dynamic'#cus i feel it leads to overlooking things like these #which are quite interesting to me. like taking a glimpse into how the world beyond europe and the us perceived nato #considering most spy stories are from those places #and um yeah it sucks. even i feel bad reading it sometimes!#but its part of it; i like what i like #either way what bliss #led zeppelin shoujo yaoi manga tag
