III.10 Curiosity and the Inherent desire to know Teaching Objective: Love of nature, curiosity, force of will, desire for knowledge, Perseverance, success & failure, and Altruism
Without curiosity and without the desire for knowledge, inherent hunger for more and more knowledge, man would not be able to progress, all research activities would come to an end, and life would indeed come to a standstill, so to say. It is only because of his quest for knowledge, and the desire to know the ‘why’ behind everything in nature that man has been able to progress thus far. In fact, he has reached such a scale of achievement where he is on the verge of making intelligent robots and computers, who can think and act in a way very much similar to human beings. This is indeed very much laudable and praiseworthy.
Now, he must continue in the same vein and reach God Himself. For this, he needs to develop and cultivate Godlike qualities, which are inherent in him as God has made him in His own image. And, God is beckoning us lovingly to reach our ultimate destination, the final station of our life, viz. Godhood and nothing else.
Before you start to imagine and think something else, I must make clear, at this very juncture, as to what I mean by achieving Godhood. And, that is the fact that man cannot become God, by any means whatsoever. He can only develop Godlike virtues that are latent in him up to a point of near perfection. If man were to become God, then the very point I had made previously (in one of the foregoing articles/sessions) that God is one and only one would not make sense. As then, so many men would be able to become God and we would not have ONE God but so many gods. Yes, all those men who can develop and cultivate Godlike qualities/virtues and overcome their human voices up to a point of near perfection can act as God-realized gurus/saints with the will of God Himself.
That’s why we should not fight over the fact that there are so many Gurus and that my Guru is superior to yours. This logic is basically and fundamentally flawed and absurd, so to say. Each and every Guru has been assigned a particular specific task by the ONE God of all beings and they are acting on HIS behalf by HIS express will.
Now, your next question will be – “what is the difference between an Avataar and a Guru? Well, an Avataar is God descended in human form while a Guru is God ascended in human form. All persons acting as Gurus have had to do a lot of penance and hard work in their ascent to Godhood. On the other hand, an Avataar descends to earth in human form, by His own will, of His own volition, to fulfill the mission of establishing Dharma or Righteousness whenever it begins to decline, in the downward direction, that is to say, with no hope of its upward movement without the express intervention of God as an Avataar.
Model Questions 281. Do you think you can acquire Godhood too? If yes, how? 282. According to you, what are the Godlike virtues/qualities that man must develop/cultivate to attain Godhood? 283. In your opinion, what are the human vices that man must get rid of to achieve Godhood?
Personality Test 284. What is meant by the term “Godhood”? Explain, elaborate, and elucidate. 285.  Does the desire to know help towards attainment of Godhood? If yes, in what way? Elucidate. 286. What do you understand by ‘curiosity’ in the context of this article? Elaborate. 287. Why does God beckon us, in your opinion? 288. How much as man already progressed, according to you?
289. Why would, in your opinion, life come to a virtual standstill without the quest for knowledge? Explain.
Practical Exercise 290. Enumerate any three Avataars and four God-realized saints. What is the main/primary point of difference between an Avataar and a God-realized person?
