Chris G's Top 10 STCO Chuckles!

I've had a lot of fun during my time with STC over the years, and there's certainly been a lot of laugh-out-louds in our stories in between all that epic action!

Humour can be subjective of course, but these are some of my favourites:

Plax for the Memories... (The End of the world - #230) well yes, of course I'm biased about Bob the Plax, I drew him in his first appearance and my very first story for STC! The plastic alien outcast put such a smile on my face that I couldn’t help but include him as a cameo into my very own script, years later! He's both loveable and terrifying in equal measure, and I hope others find him a fun little background character to have popping up from time to time!

Barking Madness! (Return of the Cybernik - #232) Belinda Barking was my first attempt at working in popular culture references to the comic (for those unfamiliar, she's based on a UK reality TV celeb who was endorsing a popular Electricals store at the time!) I've always enjoyed the print run's ability to work in celeb cameos, so I hope readers got as much of a kick out of seeing the real world reflected in the comic over the years as I did!

Braaaaaaiiiins over Beauty (Chasing Amy #239) I thought this story was a neat little twist on the ever popular Zombie genre, with fun homages that artist @teamsmithy built on from the already excellent script - my favourite line is still "I love you for your braaaaaaiiiins!"

Blacksnap or Bust (Dicing With Death - #240) Everything about this high stakes card game puts a smile on my face - the name, the villain's gimmick, the design of the cards (lots of Easter eggs for long-time boomers - tons of fun researching them when I did the colours!) - even the fact that Tails is unexpectedly good at it - but most of all for the wild facial expressions of the Dice as he actually manages to lose!

Plunders and Cream! (The Tale of Cream the Rabbit - Sonic the Easter Special 2012) I've always admired the team's ability to take the familiar SEGA characters and tweak them a bit to fit our own STC universe, and having Cream's comic debut juxtaposed against the return of one of the series' most recognisable creations was an inspired choice that demonstrates this perfectly!

Big Trouble! (Big Hits the Road - #259) - Big has been one of the best comedic additions to STCO's vast cast - and this story is one of my favourites of all the great work that the various writers and artists have done in developing his character for the series!

Worst day EVER! (The World's Worst Villain - #262) between all the explosions and drama, we don't get many opportunities for quieter character driven pieces - here though, we finally get to see what life is like for the ordinary schoolkids of Mobius - and still find time for some wry humour and a bit of an outsiders’ perspective on the adventures of the cool blue hedgehog!

Here comes the bride! (The Bride of Fabian Vane! - #264) I think getting to write tom-boy Amy into a big fancy dress was too hilarious an opportunity to pass up! For the creation of this story, I actually thought of the title first and the script ideas blossomed from there! I'm really pleased to have found a fun new way to develop this classic character from the print run a little further!

An Unlikely Accomplice (The Bat Who Spied Me! - #265) Rouge is a character I've really enjoyed getting a chance to write, and pairing her up with the most unexpected sidekick in the form of Norris Wimple felt like a great source of comedy to me! Of course, I also loved writing in all the fun nods to the spy genre too! Anyone for a game of 'Sneaky Snake'?

Tikal Power! (Tikal - Girl Wonder! - #267) Tikal has been a great addition to Knuckles supporting cast but she hasn't had much opportunity to take centre stage - until this story that is! This twist on the familiar set up was a hilarious idea that plays up to that, while finally giving her a well deserved chance to shine!
