I used to wonder, when I was younger, how people could let such terrible things happen. I remember at school they showed us pictures of the piles and piles of bodies, sprawling stick limbs in the death camps in Germany and Poland and Cambodia and Rwanda and. They said to us: we let this happen. You must not.
Ah, I thought, how could I? How could anyone?
Now I am beginning to see.
Years ago they said: if you are not angry you are not paying attention. But oh I am so tired of being angry and more I am afraid.
It is hard to be afraid for so long, and to see that there are those in power and rising up and eating the fear and breathing it and spreading it out. Sleeping on a fort of money to keep them safe and breathing out death and other people's misery and we are all so afraid. Stop the boats and keep the money and how will we afford bread, my partner has a new job now and maybe we'll make the rent and there are people starving and drowning and they are making laws against us;
It is about keeping children safe they say on the radio. That is what justifies your suffering.
I turn off the radio.
I wish my child would go to school, but she says she is afraid of everything all the time now.
Did you know that a hundred years ago, one child in four, one child in three, in two, would die and now I wonder: how did they do it? With cholera and dysentry and your children dying in your arms, was it not hard to say: " I think even bad men should have a chance to live. I do not want them to suffer as my child has suffered?"
I think it would be much easier not to care, to say: let them all perish as my sister/child/husband/friends have perished. Is that not justice? O only let the ones I love breath and be easy.
In the news I read about "invasions of migrants" and "keeping women and children safe" and I think about the men far away in queues for bread starving with their money frozen by foreign banks. And I think about moving countries and making plans, and try again to get my child to school.
The news comes on the radio and I turn it off and I think
I understand now.
And I am afraid.

right, i’m not going to put it in the cbs tags because i don’t know what i think about it yet and don’t want to complain amidst people having fun and enjoying themselves, but here is my own personal thoughts on cbs ghosts.
i’ve watched episode one and two, and i don’t know if i’m going to continue or not. i am finding it quite draining. the brightness, the fact it’s loud in the ‘school playground’ sense. i got overstimulated by the trailer, but the episode was not as challenging to get through. it still wasn’t easy; i stopped after one, didn’t even think about it. just turned it off.
i don’t know whether i’m going to get it. it’s been adapted for an american audience, and it isn’t made with me in mind. i know that, and i understand that. i’m never going to grasp all of it, the same way parts of bbc ghosts (like pat’s name) probably doesn’t translate.
i grew up on monty python and blackadder and stephen fry. i like david mitchell and richard ayoade and james acaster and jo brand and bob mortimer and vic reeves and so on and so forth. american comedy is different to that, because comedy is often massively different depending on where you are in the world. the first time my dad started sharing irish comedy with me, i didn’t get it at all. but i got used to it, and it’s great. i’m finding it harder to cope with american comedy, but that’s a generalisation. i like john mulaney, and i genuinely do believe that buzzfeed unsolved (i class it as a comedy. in my personal rankings, it’s above HH) is one of the funniest things i’ve ever watched. i love that sort of thing. it’s not bad because it’s different, it’s just different. i kind of need to get over myself.
there are also going to be cultural differences. some of those will bother me, like the fact they’ve turned julian (who, might i add, is not dissimilar to real british politicians) into... trevor. i don’t dislike trevor, actually. i think he’s really funny, in a more socially acceptable way. and that’s the thing that’s bothering me. i want to see american tv mock politicians more openly. i love mocking politicians, and i want to see more of it in america. it takes some of the power away from politicians, and when they seem more human, they seem less like external forces beyond our control and are exposed for what they are, which is just people (albeit in power positions), like us! and there are way more of us.
speaking of characters, i’m torn. i love the diversity. i want to see way more of thor, immediately. (in fact, i’ve always wanted a celt or a roman or an anglo-saxon or a viking in the bbc version. i even made two up in my head.) i wanted to see and hear more of sasappis. i don’t know if i feel attached to the character at all, but it’s still early days. i feel very neutrally about alberta, but i think i’ll probably like her. i want pete to be more distinct, and more his own guy. there’s potential there. i don’t dislike isaac, but right now he feels a little bit surface level and i HATE the dysentry bit. death to all fart jokes. make up brand new powers instead, please!! it felt like an afterthought!! jay seems alright, but i cannot STAND samantha. she is very grating, and maybe a bit cartoonish?? i do not like hetty or flower.
and not to be a snob, but i’m disappointed with the house. i know that america has fewer old country houses sitting around, and my constant and insatiable desire to see old buildings is a futile hope, but it doesn’t even look dirty. if you can’t have the concerns about the whole place being structurally unsound, a public health risk, and around since henry viii, then at least have rats. give us that.
i was also really disappointed in the very subtle class commentary being lost. in the bbc version, alison and mike are working people, and they can’t afford to live anywhere nice. inheriting a massive pile is like a miracle. the dream of so many british people is to own our own houses, and not spend our lives paying off a landlord’s mortgage and not even be able to paint the walls without permission at the end of it all. i am now in mourning.
it’s not a bad show. i think that it’s got bucketfuls of potential, and obviously the cast are really passionate which always makes things better. it’s a massive achievement for themthere to have their (brilliant) concept picked up in america, and because of that i automatically support it even if i never touch cbs ghosts again. themthere should be really proud. they’ve quietly contributed to a wealth of brilliant stuff, and now what they have is well-deserved recognition.
but i also want to see more original american comedy. what i’m hoping is that these converted comedies, where british shows are given american counterparts, are the springboard for some brand new original stuff. i hope that some really funny minds escape the writing rooms and get to do their own projects. and i hope that i get to see more americans enjoying self-righteous boasting about their country’s comedy scene.

the saga of henry the young king
ok so, henry the young king, eldest (living) son of henry ii (he did have an older brother, william, but william died as a baby so in practice henry's oldest) dad's the king of england, lord of wales and ireland, count of anjou and maine and aquitaine, and eventually brittany
lots of titles, lots of sons as well, and rather than the oldest son getting everything like comes in later (unless he's an only child/only has sisters) at this point he has to share with his brothers, though he does get the Best Cut, which in this case is the kingship of england
BUT
kingdoms are a lil different to other realms, in that, whilst counties and duchys can be split whilst dad's still alive, bc those are vassals of the kingdom, the throne can't be split up, obviously
so even though henry is named 'henry the young king' (an attempt at securing the throne, after the absolute clusterfuck that happened to henry ii's mother, empress matilda, whose throne was stolen by her cousin stephen after her father's death, bc she was a) a woman, gasp and b) the lords of england didn't think SWEARING AN OATH TO RECOGNISE HER AS QUEEN BEFORE THEIR KING AND PEERS was BINDING ENOUGH, so that henry's chosen heir would. actually get the throne when he died) he has no actual power
which tbh, looking at his record, is probably a good thing, bc although he thought a lot of himself, he wasn't actually that great a leader of men
he was a very good jouster tho, but that's neither here nor there
SO. henry ii is king. henry the young king is basically the king-in-waiting, whilst all his legitimate* younger brothers get THEIR inheritances (well, richard and geoffrey do, getting aquitaine and brittany. john - later known as bad king john, yes the bad guy in robin hood, he's based off THIS john - is the youngest and doesn't get shit, gaining him the nickname 'lackland')
*henry ii was a bit of a slut, but all kings were, and was actually pretty good to his bastard sons, by the standards of the day, anyway. he made one of them an important bishop and gave the other a position at court. fun fact, when henry ii does eventually die, it's one of his illegitimate sons at his bedside, and none of his legitimate sons
[in the words of the astounding @searchingforserendipity25: “to be the only illegitimate son at that bedside, crowded by all those absences” damn queen, go off]
BUT. henry the young king, king in name, but JUNIOR king, and only titular. younger brothers get their lands. he's pissed.
daaaaad, he whines, i want a go at ruling now
i'm ruling now, wait your turn, henry ii says
no, fuck you, henry the young king says and starts a rebellion
despite being... well, a bit useless, henry the young king is VERY popular (idk, bc he was moderately handsome and good at jousting?? it makes no sense to me why the people liked him as much as they did, he didn't exactly do anything to earn their love or allegiance as far as i can see) and quite a few lords get behind him
also wanting a bigger portion than they've been given, richard and geoffrey join the rebellion, bc they want more of that sweet, sweet land, as does their mother eleanor of aquitaine who fell out with her husband at some point
henry ii, against all expectations, successfully puts down the rebellion and henry the young king et al are in troubleeee, but henry ii can't afford to really punish his ungrateful offspring as much as he'd probably like, so he goes the other way and gives henry the young king a nice big allowance to keep him happy, which works for a little bit
then henry the young king, beautiful imbecile that he is, decides he's gonna rebel again. it ends the same way. he's just not very good at war, is the only conclusion i can come to
SO the second rebellion is in progress (henry the young king is allied with his brother geoffrey again, but not richard, who appears to have learned his lesson... for now. richard does rebel again later, but he waits for the right moment, proving he had some degree of intelligence that the other two... lacked) when henry the young king gets sick
i'm gonna have to copy and paste from wikipedia for this bit to explain what he was sick WITH bc there is no way i can beat this: "[Henry] had just finished pillaging local monasteries to raise money to pay his mercenaries [when] he contracted dysentery at the beginning of June."

he got dysentry whilst PILLAGING CHURCHES
it was a real Bruh moment for karma
anyway, he starts getting sicker and sicker until it becomes clear He Ain't Surviving This, at which point he does what a lot of people do when faced with the reality of their own mortality: say 'oh shit, i fucked up' and try and apologise
he's also pretty out of it so at some point in a presumably feverish stupor 'as a token of his penitence for his war against his father, he prostrated himself naked on the floor before a crucifix'. just stripped off, got on his belly, presumably in one of the few moments he was not shitting himself, and says 'lol my bad'
unfortunately for henry the young king, he's got form for being a tricksy, underhanded bitch. (seriously, why was he so popular?? enquiring minds - mine - would like to know) and when the messenger gets to his dad saying 'welp, i'm dying, i'm real sorry about the wars, come see me on my deathbed?
henry ii takes one look at that and goes: 'he's not really dying, is he?’
the messenger: uh. yeah. really dying.
henry ii: sounds fake
the messenger: no, he's really really sorry and really really dying
henry ii: this is Definitely A Trap
so henry ii isn't gonna be taken to a secondary location to get imprisoned or murdered by his rebellious son, which u can't entirely blame him for, considering henry the young king is currently In The Process Of Attempting To Depose Him when this all goes down, BUT henry ii also figures that if his son really is dying, and he doesn't grant him forgiveness, then he's gonna be haunted by that shit/his son won't find peace/bad things will happen. so he takes one of his rings and gives it to the messenger and says, take this to my son as a token of my forgiveness. the ring couldn't come from anyone else, so henry the young king will know it really comes from his father, and henry ii doesn't get possibly murdered, so everybody wins!
messenger goes back to henry the young king, who we presume has now got some clothes on, or at least a strategically placed sheet, and gives him the ring. as expected, henry the young king dies soon after, get this, holding the ring that his father sent him.
like. i don't think he was a good king. i don't think he would've been a good king. but. he dies holding onto this ring. and he's got a lot of people around him, but his dad isn't there, just this ring.
when henry ii gets the news that henry the young king is really, really dead now, he is meant to have said the absolute soul-crusher of a quote that made me want to tell you this whole saga in the first place: "He cost me much, but I wish he had lived to cost me more."
like??? this kid tried to overthrow his dad. TWICE. he spent all the money his dad gave him and then some, which led to the aforementioned pillaging monasteries, he signed up to go on crusade that his dad specifically told him not to fucking go on (which he died before he could fulfil)... he did EVERYTHING wrong. like. so much.
and his dad just wants his pillaging, disobedient and wasteful son back.
and that is the story of henry the young king, the only junior king england ever had.

!! - A long post
For context : I envisioned Fontaine being similar to 18th century France (there's a large disparity between the rich and the poor, Enlightenment period and there's a tension between the divine and mortals) and when it comes to the judicial system, I can see it being ruled by the whims of the Hydro Archon. I hc that only a handful of people across Teyvat knows about the poverty problem.
Aude was an orphan and grew up in one of the orphanage in the capital of Fontaine ; where learned how to read and write. When she was about 8 years old, a famine caused by a bad season, forced the orphanage to kick out some of the kids that had no hopes of being adopted and she was one of them.
Thankfully, one of the older kids (named Pierrot) that were also kicked out took her under his wing. At first, they were a group of 5 children depending on Pierrot who was basically working a lot of odd jobs for them to survive. Of course, they were also working but they aren't getting paid as much.
A year or so later, Pierrot got a job as a sailor, which paid a livable wage. He basically had no choice but to leave Aude as the caretaker of the 4 other kids.
The first 4 months went smoothly, Aude got a job as a servant of a daugther of a rich merchant, she basically followed her everywhere, even in her private classes. That's when she realised that she had a passion for learning and all things science. With her salary and Pierrot's salary (bc he sends back his money) she could properly feed the 4 other children under her care.
Until, another famine hit Fontaine, this time it was worse than the previous one, since the government didn't properly handled the crisis. This time the food weren't equally distributed and the Hydro Archon, goddess of Justice didn't do anything about it.
In the end, she was the only one who survived the famine. Two of the children she took care died of cold/dysentry/fever and one of them disappeared.
With this news, Pierrot came home to take care of Aude who was all alone at this point (and depressed). Since, he knew that Aude really liked to learn, he paid her lessons and books. To the teacher's surprise Aude was able to keep up with ease with her lessons.
** Aude is by no means a genius but she's easily remembers things she likes. She also studies often.**
With the recommendation of her teacher, she was sent to a school in Sumeru. Pierrot was more than happy to finance her studies.
Her time in Sumeru would be the best time of her life. Aude was living a better life than the one she was used to. When she finally graduated what is essentially the equivalent of highschool. She enrolled and was accepted at a University in Fontaine, to live with Pierrot (they are lovers at this point).
When she returned in Fontaine, there was a noticable tension between the divine and the mortals. Even the rich weren't happy about the status quo.
Around this time her lover admitted that he had been working as an informant to an underground group that wants the Hydro Archon to step down and let the people choose their government.
At first Aude was skeptical about the group but she wasn't opposed to Pierrot working as their informant.
Fast forward a couple of months and someone snitched about the group. Since most of the people in the group were affliated to the Hydro Archon (they were nobles), most of them were graced by the Archon. Only a few of them (sons/daugthers of merchants, the paid workers) were severely punished, including her lover.
Since this was the highest of offense a mortal could do, the punisment were so severe that no one survived.
At this point, Aude was disillusioned to the fact that the Hydro Archon's judgment were fair and just. If that were the case, the Archon would've understand that Pierrot was only trying to earn a living. This lead her and the others who were wronged to re-create another group to seize control over Fontaine. They were more weary towards those affiliated to the Archon and the nobles.
Despite this, Aude learned to move on but she still believes that a reform should be done.

How she obtained her Vision : (she's has a Geo Vision and is a pole arm wielder)
Her thesis was about how the elemental energy was stored/generated in a Vision. For this, she studied in Liyue where she knows a lot of minerals were imbued with elemental energy, a great plus is that you can find anything in Liyue. That's where she bought what was supposed to be an empty Vision (it's holders have thrown it away or passed away). Upon touching the gem, it glowed bright gold, revealing a new Geo Vision.
Aude was very angry that day.

Her backstory is amazingly written!! I love it! It's definitely not cliche it's very logical and explains how Aude became the person she is today! She is such an interesting character with so much story to unpack!! I definitely hope the Canon Fontaine will be as interesting as your version!
With everything she had gone through and learned throughout her life I can only guess how she felt when she received her vision..Learning more about Aude makes me appreciate and love her so much more 💕

Fuck, I'm tired.
I'm sorry for the lack of content, but the mun is a healthcare worker in direct contact with COVID and I can't really get away from it on my days off either. But I promise I'm not losing interest in anything, and I'm excited for when I get a second wind and I can go back on here and the multimuse to really get at shit.
Also be on the lookout for announcement posts of OCs of Tim and I's, I'm gonna try, *really fucking try* to make decent blogs for some of our favorite boys, girls, and thembos. But in all likelihood, Tim is gonna knock em out of the park when I get dysentry from reading code because monotony is homophobic, but Tim is a fucking rock star.
Anyways. Wanted to make a quick post before I head off into my meme fueled nightmares and occasional ship dreams. Sorry for rambling, but I'm too tired to formalize this shit and it's about 9 hours until I leave for work. But I dunno, maybe the informal press conference works for me, let me know, I might do sleep deprived PSAs. more often.

Ultimates Write up part 1: Brett and Elizabeth's panel
Hi everyone. So last weekend I was lucky enough to be at ultimates convention (my other half has great taste in Christmas gifts) and whilst there I noted down as much as I could during the Shield panels. I'm going to be posting my notes from each one separately. I didn't get everything, but hopefully I noted some things of interest. So without further ado, these are my notes from the panel with Brett and Elizabeth: They were both asked about their favourite seasons so far: Brett said season 3 as he liked Ward's vengeance arc against Coulson, Elizabeth said S1 as she misses the innocence of both them as actors and the characters. I asked Elizabeth to clarify if Fitzsimmons were together at the end of Season 4. She said she likes to think Fitzsimmons will always come back together but doesn't know if they are in season 5. He was discussing the Hive Simmons scene in 3, and how he thinks they don't give him many scenes with her as he just stands there exclaiming over how good she is. I asked what the nerdiest thing was they had ever done. Elizabeth told a story about how when she had been filming her scenes with Samuel L Jackson in series 1 she had been completely professional, then after that she was outside with the crew in the parking lot and was nerdy dancing on her car (who was named Kevin but has since died) and SLJ walked by, and she got all garbled trying to explain what she was doing and why her car was called Kevin. Brett once had a conversation with R2-D2 at con without being able to see the operator. They were both asked what their wrestler alter ego's would be. Liz's wrestler alter ego would enter to eye of the tiger and be super polite. Elizabeth was asked about shooting the framework arc and said she missed Iain as they usually saw each other everyday, but that she thought he was fantastic as FW fitz (although she joked she didn't speak to him for a day after shooting the scene where he shoots agnes as he was so convincing). She then told a story about how shooting ran late on the Fitz LMD scene in episode 15, and she had to run to airport to fly home for her mum's birthday right from the shoot. She tried to get a her make up and mascara streaks off in the cab but couldn't, and when she got to the airport they had closed check in. She begged them to open it as she had to get home to her mum - whilst smeared in fake blood and make up. One person asked who Brett would be if he went on stars in your eyes (a British show from years ago, in which members of the public gor made over to look like pop stars, and then did a performance as them). Brett said he would be Beyonce, potentially with suspenders. (I pointed out to him that earlier on J had danced to single ladies during his panel, and during J's panel the following day I asked who would win a Beyonce off between him and Brett. He said Brett). Brett was asked about the wooden nature of Wards character in season 1 and how that was deliberate by the writer's, but for him it was frustrating at the time, however it made sense when the traitor twist came as there then was a reason why Ward was so wooden. Brett was asked did you shoot the dog? Brett says no. A fan congratulated Liz on 4722 and said a magazine nominated it for best episode of 2016. Three asked how Liz felt about the episode. She said she felt pride and honour and then joked she felt dysentry. She said how she didn't know if it was definitely going to happen until a few weeks before, and that originally it was going to be just Simmons on the planet alone for much longer. Liz has never forgotten a line according to Brett which he says is annoying. Liz says that's not true just google AOS gag reel, but then she question what you might find if you do that. They were both asked what they listen to when driving. Brett listens to podcasts or the moana soundtrack when his daughter is in the car (he then sang the first party of You're Welcome). Liz says la has bad traffic so it's good to edumacate herself, so she also listens to podcasts. They were asked what character from Guardians they would most like their character to meet. Liz said she is obsessed with baby groot. Brett would like to see a show with Ward and Drax hanging out together. Brett's new word is chippy (British for a chip shop). He was calling it a chipper, which means something completely different. The final question was the weirdest thing they have been asked to do in an audition. Elizabeth was asked to be spaghetti, so she asked the casting people did they want get to be cooked or uncooked spaghetti, and was told cooking. Their panel was then cut short by a fire alarm going off. It was a really great panel, they were both happy and joking lots.
