Marinette biodaughter of Bruce Wayne

This au was inspired by @ozmav maribat au.

· Bruce met Sabine when he was training in with the league of assassins

Sabine was the top assassin of the league. Highly respected by Ra's Al Ghoul and the rival of lady Shiva.

· At first Bruce and Sabine disliked each other due to their different codes of ethics, but they slowly came to respect each other and even considering each other friends.

Sabine started questioning the league and started to despise their needless killing, even came to regret killing in some missions in the name of the league.

· With Bruce's influence and help she decides to leave the league of assassins and turn on a new leaf.

· Of course, Ra's refuses to let go of his top assassin, so he makes a deal with her. He gives Sabine an extremely difficult, almost impossible to complete alone with no help. (this is basically John Wick).

· She agrees, Bruce tries to talk her out of it. The mission is just impossible and there is an extremely high probability that she will die.

· This leads both to fight both verbally and physically.

· It ends with a one-night stand.

· Both agree not to talk about it, and both leave on bad terms

· Sabine leaves to complete the mission, during this time Bruce completes his training and leaves the league.

· Sabine of course completes the mission, much to ra's complete surprise.

· He is a man of his word and lets Sabine go with a promise to not seek her out again or interfere with her life and those around her.

· Few weeks later, Sabine discovers that she is pregnant with Bruce's child. And since she an Bruce's friendship ends on bad terms (with Bruce being an emotionally constipated man, who at this point of his life only think about his mission and wouldn't make a good father) Sabine decides not to tell him.

· Sabine travels for a little bit until she arrives in Paris where she meets Tom.

· With time they both fall in love with Tom promising to love her and her unborn child as his own.

· When Marinette is born, Tom officially adopts her as his daughter.

· Marinette grew up loved from her parents and had a normal happy childhood.

· Though Sabine did teach her self-defense because you can't bee to careful.

· When Marinette was ten years old, she meets Damian Wayne. He was separated from his guardian and got lost.

· Marinette offered to help him, but Damian at this point of his life was a little shit and refused. Too proud to even admit he was lost.

· But Marinette was not deterred, and with great determination, kindness, and whining, she was able to make him cave.

· She shows him the way back to his hotel, and saw Dick waiting outside worried out of his mind.

· He saw Damian approaching and immediately ran towards the kids and scooped the baby assassin into a hug.

· " Dami, I was so worried"

· "cease your embarrassing antics Grayson, I am clearly in perfect shape. As if anything in this miserable city can harm me"

· "hey, Paris is amazing. You take that back" shrieked Marinette

· Only then does Dick notice a petite Asian girl glaring at Damian.

· "well hello, who might you be?"

· "I'm Marinette, I helped him find the hotel. He was lost" came the smugly reply

· "I wasn’t lost you imbecile, I didn't require any assistance from you. I just "accepted your help" because you were annoying and couldn't shut up"

· This basically started a shouting match between Marinette and Damian, while Dick observed with amusement.

· He never seen Damian act like a child since he came to his care (Bruce is lost in time at this point, and Dick is Damián's legal guardian) and started to thick that hanging around Marinette may benefit Damian.

· He invites Marinette to the local park, where Titus can stretch his legs, an takes her there with her parents' permeation of course.

· Over the next few days Dick invites Marinette to come with him and Damian (much to the latter's chagrin) whenever they have free time.

· The kids' relationship only started to improve after Marinette helped Damian take down Chloe, who was acting as her glorious bratty self.

· It involved headbands, tooth pics, and a lipstick

· Damián started to respect Marinette and enjoy her company after that (though he won't admit it)

· Marinette starts talking about her friend at home, while her parents listens with amusement until she mentions his full name Damian Wayne.

· Sabine immediately starts asking about his father.

· At first Sabine wanted Marinette to stay away from the Waynes, but seeing how happy her Daughter is, she decided against it.

· Fearing that both kids with time would develop feeling for their unknown half sibling, she calls Dick and tells him about Marinette's parentage.

· Dick doesn't believe this, so Sabine gives him permission to perform a DNA test.

· The test was done, Dick was not amused because damn it Bruce another one

· They both decided to tell the Kids about their blood relationship

· Damian was furious and didn't accept this, at this point of his life he thought he was the blood so of Batman and no one else

· He ended saying some hurtful thing words towards Marinette

· Marinette ends up crying, and runs out of the room

· Damian is immediately consumed by guilt, especially after Dick gives him the "I am very disappointed in you" look.

· He goes to Marinette's room to apologies and hears her crying through the door and feels even worse.

· It takes a lot of him since he never apologized to anyone before, he does it but awkwardly.

· Marinette forgives him because she is a forgiving person and asks Damian not to say stuff like that to her again.

· They become close after that. They exchange numbers and e-mails to talk to each other when Damian and Dick return to Gotham.

· Tom and Sabine are great influence over Damian. With the Dupain-chengs he starts to act more like a boy and less like the heir to the league of assassins. Dick is very happy and grateful about it.

· The couple also parent Dick and coddles him. Both boys are adopted to the family now.

· In Summer Marinette visits Gotham and meets Alfred. The butler grew quite fond of her.

· She may strongly resemble Sabine, but Alfred can see Martha Wayne in her smile. A little of Thomas Wayne in the twinkle of her eyes. And a lot of Bruce when she is concentrating on something.

· Marinette also inherited Bruce's intelligence, so she quickly discovers the family's secret.

· She joins the boys in their training, because extra self-defense lessons can't hurt, but not on petrol. Sabine was very against it.

· Dick introduces her to trapeze, which she fell in love with, together they are the acrobat duo.

· So she spars with the boys, flies with Dick, bakes and cooks with Alfred (" I am pleased to know that at least one Wayne will grow to be a functioning adult". "Alfred please.STAHP")

· And once she is introduced to the girls ("she is so cute" "stop squealing fat girl") she'll hack with Barbra, dance with Cass, and will have a girl's night out with all her older sisters especially Steph.

· Jason meets her after he comes to the cave to use the bat-computer, then out of nowhere a petite Asian girl pops out and offers him cookies.

· "I only known Marinette for five minutes, but if anything happens to her I'll kill everybody in this cave then myself"

· Jason and Damian start fighting for the position of favorite brother.

· Months passes and Marinette grows closer to all the bat-family except Tim, because he is still looking for Bruce and didn't keep tabs on what's happening in Gotham lately.

· The Dupain-Chengs adopts the rest of the Bat-family except Alfred. Alfred adopts you, you do not adopt him.

· The family becomes closer and the communication problem is slowly fixed.

· Jason becomes more open. He and Dick talk about their issues, there was shouting, yelling, accusations and tears. But in the end, it was better. Not perfect but better.

· Also, Jason finally has healthy positive parental figures in his life. "have you been eating?" "I'm proud of you son" "we love you" and other words were spoken towards Jason and the kids.

· "o-okay" he chocks on tears.

· Alfred later introduces the Dupain-chengs to Ma and Pa Kent and joins the " the gathering of family member of heroes, who have more common sense than the heroes"

· Basically, the family members of heroes meet up monthly for brunch to bitch about their hero family member, while trading recipes and baby photos.

· Alfred is the founder. Ma Kent is the president.

· Bruce comes back and everyone is happy. No one tells him about Marinette. They all decide to troll him.

· Marinette and Bruce accidently meet in the cave.

· "Papa' it's good to have you back" Marinette happily hugs Bruce

· Bruce is holding his arms awkwardly in the air, while looking down at Marinette with confusion. "who are you?!"

· "it's me Marinette, don't you remember me" insert fake tears

· "A-ahh?!"

· "Alfred Papa doesn't remember me" she wails dramatically into the butler's chest "he forgotten all about me"

· " Honestly master Bruce, I raised you better than this. Yet here you are disowning your own daughter.

· "yeah, shame on you B" came the eager response from Steph and Jason.

· " I am disappointed in you father" Damian joins in. Cass nods in agreement.

· Dick is struggling to keep his poker face intact, Barbra is pinching his arm hard to keep him away from laughing and exposing the prank.

· Tim is sleep deprived and confused as hell.

· The family takes bets to see when would Bruce figure out they're trolling him.

· Spoilers alert he never does

· They end up telling him and Alfred wins the pot.

· "World's greatest detective indeed"

· "alright I get it Alfred"

· Bruce ends up adoring Marinette. He and Sabine talk again after a decade of not talking and becomes somewhat friends

· He doesn't publicly announce Marinette as his daughter and doesn't claim her, because Tom is her father as well. And it won't be fair to him.

· She may have Bruce's blood, but the heart is all Tom. He is grateful that his daughter grew up loved. He doesn’t want to take Tom away from her.

· When she became Ladybug, she immediately tells her family. They're all freak out about 13 years old being a hero on her own.

· " you need a partner"

· "Papa chat noir is my partner"

· "Dick go to Paris"

· Due to the bat-family involvement, hawkmoth is defeated fast. And he is spending the rest of his life in jail.

· Adrien goes to live with his aunt in England for a while.

· Zatanna and Constantine are called to see if they can wake Emilie from her magic induced coma.

· They do. And Adrien goes back to his mom

· Hawkmoth civilian identity was never outed to the public. The justice league wanted to give the Agrestes some privacy. But there are some conspiracy theories.

· Due to the influence of her older sisters, Marinette isn't as boy crazy as in the show. But she develops an innocent crush on both Adrien and Luka. Much to Bruce's chagrin

· "you won't start dating until your thirty"

· "of course papa, of course"

· Keeping Marinette away from dating was the toughest battle Bruce ever fought. The rest of the family are just sitting behind and enjoying the show

· Her wasn't the most normal or perfect, but Marinette loves it any way.

You’re English is fine, no worries!

Kuramochi Youichi

He knew you were out of his league, he didn’t need his best friend to giggle like an idiot about it to know it. Smacking Miyuki was a matter of course, but the catcher’s mirth didn’t bother him. Why should he let the truth getting him mad? He could do without the asshole’s smugness though…

That being said, he wasn’t really the kind of boy that let small things get in his way. He knew he was probably going to be rejected, after all, you rejected everyone that confessed to you. It was a well known fact. He was confident in his appearance, but he knew he wasn’t the best looking guy in their school (goddamn tanuki held that honor), but you reacted favorably to his attempts to talk to you so he had a small smidgeon of hope.

He was a bundle of nerves as he waited for you. He didn’t even know if you were going to show up. He had it on good authority you usually answered confessions, so he remained standing behind a building, rubbing his hands on his uniform pants, trying to make sure they weren’t sticky in case he somehow got to touch you…

“Oh…hello…”

Your voice had his head snapping up, his heart suddenly in his throat. It made him feel a little better that you were blushing pretty brightly and that you were fidgeting. You were so adorable…

“Er… so I guess you know why I asked you here?” Kuramochi said, clearing his throat.

“Maybe…” You answered. “But I’m hoping you will tell me anyway…”

He coughed awkwardly, summoning the courage to just spit out the words. “I… er… really like you.” He was muttering by the end, his face feeling hot.

He glanced up at you, and found you biting back a happy, if embarrassed smile. “I like you too, Kuramochi-kun.”

“Really?” He blurted before he could think about it, and then rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. “I mean, that’s great!”

You giggled and he thought it was the most beautiful sound in the world.

Todoroki Raichi

When it came out, it was completely an accident. Definitely not something he meant to say out loud. He could barely breathe around you, after all. You were so pretty, and your smile was warm, and his heart nearly leaped from his chest every time you so much as glanced at him.

But in that moment, Raichi found himself overwhelmed by your presence. You’d ended up alone on cleanup duty and you’d asked him to reach something you couldn’t. Your proximity and the scent of your hair had him blurting, “You’re so pretty!”

You stilled, red crawling up your ears and over your cheeks. Your eyes were wide and you stared at him utterly shocked. It was all Raichi could do not to run away. Miraculously, he remained where he was, squirming in discomfort, holding his breath as he waited for you to respond.

You looked down for a moment, then seemed to come to a decision. Your shoulders straightened and when your chin came up there was a determination in your eyes. “Todoroki-kun,” you started, hands curled into fists. “I really like you!”

Stunned, Raichi felt like he’d been hit with a bat. You were… you were confessing to him??

Mishima had said there was no way you, the most beautiful girl in school, would ever return his crush. After all, you rejected everyone, or so Mishima said. But here you were, staring at him with hope.

He felt strangled and like his face was burning up, and still felt like running, but he knew he had to answer you. And what other answer could he give? “I like you too,” he whispered shyly.

You were hugging him before either of you realized what was happening. “I’m so glad,” you said in a rush, tensing as you realized just what position you were in.

Raichi managed a smile as he tentatively hugged you back. “Me too.”

Sanada Shunpei

He watched you carefully for some time. It was hard not to look at you, being as gorgeous as you were. Everyone noticed, everyone talked and most guys wanted. Unfortunately, you seemed as untouchable as the stars in the sky, because you rejected everyone that got up the courage to ask.

There were even bets that you weren’t into guys, but Sanada didn’t think that was it. You were a model student, president of your club, basically the pinnacle of Yakushi High School. The queen, as it were. You were probably too busy, or maybe you just didn’t like anyone like that.

Not that you acted like a queen. It was one of the most remarkable things about you – you had everything going for you, but you were kind and down to earth as well. How was a man supposed not to want?

Which was eventually the conclusion he came to. He doubted he would have any more luck than anyone else, but he thought he might as well try anyway.

Just to be extra cliché (for fun), he left a note in your shoe box and when it was time, waited at the appropriate spot at the appropriate time. He hadn’t put his name on the note, just to see if you would come anyway.

You gasped as you came around the corner and found him waiting for you. Sanada gave you a lop-sided smile and straightened out of his lean. “Hey there,” he greeted, hands stuffed in his pockets.

“Sanada-kun…” You swallowed, looking more shell shocked, and a lot more hopeful than he expected. “…Really?”

Sanada chuckled. “It seems so. I don’t suppose you’d be interesting in going out with me?”

You made a strangled squeak, somewhere between shock and excitement (and it was honestly hilariously adorable) and nodded vigorously. “I definitely would! I’ve liked you for a while, Sanada-kun.”

Well, that solved the mystery about the rejected confessions anyway. “We’re on the same page then. Sunday afternoon?”

You smiled and nodded again. “It’s a date!”

Happy Birthday, karebear923! I hope I have enough smut for you!

When I was looking for songs Katniss would’ve sung I came across Someone Like You by Adele and it ended up changing the story slightly. There is some high school angst, but the majority takes place just after college. I hope this meets your Everlark needs.

Of course, I do not own Someone Like You, or The Hunger Games, that is Adele and Suzanne Collins.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited

But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.

I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded

That for me it isn't over.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you

I wish nothing but the best for you too

I'll remember you said,

"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,

Katniss’ car flew along the country roads, even though it had been years since she was home she still knew her way to the familiar cabin in the hills. It’s not that she was meaning to not come home ever, but since her mother and sister moved away right after she graduated high school there was really no reason. She stayed in touch with a few of her friends from home and after much begging from Madge she agreed to come home for the last weekend before she was to move to the capital for her dream job working as a research assistant at the children’s hospital.

As she pulled up the drive she saw his black Jeep parked along several cars she didn’t recognize. Panic and anger filled Katniss, what was he doing here? It’s not like he hung out with the rest of them. Immediately she thought back to the last time they spoke.

You know how the time flies

Only yesterday was the time of our lives

We were born and raised

In a summer haze

Bound by the surprise of our glory days

Katniss needed to get ready for the talent show and decided to stay after school to practice. She was singing Someone Like You, by Adele but it just didn’t feel right. She chose the song to show off her range, but something was off. Frustrated, she stormed from the music room and nearly ran into him. She stared at him, her eyes asking the silent question of why he was in the music hall.

Finally he spoke, “Hey Katniss, I uh, I heard you singing. It sounds really good.”

“Thanks Peeta, why were you listening?” It came out more accusatory than she meant, but this was not an area Peeta Mellark normally hung out in. He was a jock, captain of the wrestling team, star football player, class president, up for Prom King and not at all someone who should be talking to theater nerd Katniss. Although Katniss had a crush on him, like all the other girls at the school, she wouldn’t dare let him know- he was out of her league anyway.

A blush crept across his cheeks as he started to speak, “I just, well I was walking by and heard your singing, I remembered when you sang in elementary school. It was so pretty.” Katniss couldn’t help as her signature scowl took over. He could tell she was questioning his motives and he was losing his nerve to do what he wanted. “When is the talent show?”

“Why, so you and your friends can come and make fun of everyone’s hard work?” Katniss was filled with rage and took it out on him, even though he was never anything but nice to everyone. His friends, on the other hand, thought they ruled the world and made sure everyone knew it. Even Principle Snow let them get away with anything they wanted.

Peeta was taken back by her comment, he knew his supposed friends were jerks, but they were a few weeks away from school being over and he was planning a clean break from all of it. He hoped Katniss wouldn’t be a part of that break, but he was quickly realizing she couldn't separate him from them. “No, I just thought I could come and hear you sing. Without any of them.” It wasn’t working, he knew he needed to leave before he made it worse. “I, nevermind. Have a good day Katniss. I’ll see you around.”

She stood firm watching him walk away, even if she thought he was there to really talk to her there was really now point. His blond curls poked out of his backward hat with the Panem University Logo. He had a full ride scholarship to go there for wrestling, which was four hours away from State where she was going on an academic scholarship. Katniss sighed and started to leave, deciding to go to the restroom on her way out.

Before she could leave the stall she heard the familiar voices of the “cool girls” Clove and Glimmer, she was planning to just push past them until they started talking.

“Did you hear Cato bet Peeta twenty bucks that he wouldn’t talk to Katniss. He told him he would give him twenty more if he actually asked her to prom.” Clove stated.

“Why would he do that? He’s going with me, we are going to be Prom King and Queen, it only makes sense that we would go together.” Glimmer protested.

“Well, you think he’s going with you. But I guess it was just a game to them. See if nerdy Katniss would actually think Peeta was interested in her. I wish I could’ve seen it. I bet she got all flustered and excited that he even knew her name.” Clove added.

Katniss had heard enough, she charged from the bathroom and went to the sink, loving the fact that both girls were suddenly at a loss for words. She decided to add one more thing to really get to them. “You can tell Peeta that I already have a date to prom, Gale Hawthorne is coming back to take me. Have fun.”

She charged from the room before they could respond back, and rushed from the building. Of course it was a joke, she’s just glad she didn’t play her hand and let Peeta know she really did like him, but not anymore. He was no better than the rest of them.

Regrets and mistakes

They are memories made.

Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

“Hi Katniss.” His voice broke her thoughts as he approached her and she couldn’t control the butterflies that fluttered around her stomach. He was better looking now than in high school if that was even possible. His jaw had lost all of its roundness and was now sharp enough to cut glass, he looked a bit more muscular, no doubt from all the workouts he needed to do for wrestling, and his hair was shorter. One thing that didn’t change were his eyes, they were still deep blue, and right now they were filled with concern.

“Hi Peeta, what are you doing here?” Just like the last time they talked her question came out harsher than she meant, but to be fair the last time he was just there to mess with her.

“Madge invited me,” he replied, his voice seemed unsure. “I, well, I just wanted to say hi.”

“Well, you said it.” Katniss stared him down, as he nodded and turned away. When he was gone she was filled with sadness, maybe she could let his past actions go it was 5 years ago after all. She marched over to the cooler and grabbed a beer before talking with the few friends she actually wanted to see.

The whole night she felt Peeta’s eyes follow her as she spoke with Madge and Gale, who were finally a couple, as well as a few others who she hadn’t seen in awhile. Every time she looked over at Peeta he quickly turned away, much like he had all through high school. At the time she wished it was because he liked her, but after that day she knew it had to be something else.

Madge made her way from Peeta to Katniss, “Will you just talk to him?”

Katniss scoffed and took a sip of her beer as she shook her head. “Why should I? You know what he did.”

“Katniss, things aren’t always what that appear to be. Besides, that was high school, you are starting a new job, we can legally drink this stuff and are actual adults now. Maybe you should act like it.”

Katniss looked at her friend, “Some things can’t be explained away and forgiven.” She didn’t wait for a response before she marched off into the woods towards the dock. She was fuming, now her best friend was turning on her. What Peeta did was horrible, a move out of some dumb high school movie. She let her feet dangle into the water trying to calm herself when she heard a heavy tread start down the dock towards her.

“You gonna finish me off?” She asked without turning around, she knew it was Peeta, he couldn’t have been quiet if his life depended on it.

“No, I saw you storm off and Madge told me where you would be. Can we talk, please?” Peeta was still a few feet away, waiting for her to allow his approach when she nodded he sat beside her. The dock was so narrow she could feel the heat from his body on her legs and could smell him, a mixture of cinnamon, dill and something else.

He took a deep breath before speaking, “I’m sorry.” Katniss raised her eyebrow and opened her mouth to speak but he continued. “Just hear me out. I don’t know what I did but it must’ve been bad to get you so upset.”

Katniss was enraged, “What do you mean you don’t know what you did? Cato said he would give you money to talk to me, would give you more if you asked me to Prom when you were supposed to be going with Glimmer. What was the plan, to get nerdy Katniss all excited that popular Peeta liked her then make fun of me in front of the whole school? I’m glad I overheard Clove and Glimmer talking about it before I could let myself believe it was anything more than a game to you.”

Peeta looked at her in shock, “What are you even talking about?”

“That day, by the music room, when you spoke to me for the first time in years. I overheard those two making fun of me in the bathroom after you walked away. Tell me Peeta what did you do with your winnings?” She was so mad she didn’t notice Peeta’s face getting red.

“I didn’t take anything if anything Cato betting me to talk to you was about the only nice thing he ever did.” He looked down and sighed, “Katniss I have a huge crush on you, always have and that’s the truth. Cato realized I really did like you and in an attempt to get me to do something he told me he would give me twenty bucks to talk to you. I was never going to take the money, it was a way for me to finally get the nerve to speak to you. But you were so closed off and I don’t blame you. I lost my nerve and walked away. I know now what that must’ve looked like, but really I just...damn it...why can’t I ever just talk to you.”

Katniss softened a bit at his words. “So what about Clove and Glimmer? How did they know?”

Peeta looked away for a moment then looked back at her. “I honestly have no idea, but they loved being able to tell me that you were going to prom with Gale. They didn’t care who they hurt, they just loved doing it. That’s why I asked Delly to go instead.”

Katniss thought back to that night, she called Gale as she was leaving the school and asked him to come back to go with her. Gale had told her he wanted to see if there could be something more than friendship between them, but as the night went on it was obvious to both of them they were destined to be only friends.

Peeta showed up with Delly, someone who was genuinely nice to everyone just like Katniss thought Peeta was until the week before. But she couldn’t deny how handsome he was in his tux. He was voted Prom King along with Glimmer, she often wondered why he hadn’t taken Glimmer, now she had her answer.

“I couldn’t take Glimmer after the way she acted, and I’m glad. Did you know that Cato knocked her up that night?” Peeta’s words pulled Katniss from her memories.

“No, I left after graduation and didn’t look back. Sounds like you dodged a bullet.”

“There is no way I would’ve slept with her even if we did go to prom together. I know you don’t know me that well, but I was never like that. In fact, I didn’t sleep with any of them.”

“Really?” Katniss just always assumed he had been with most of the popular girls.

“No, didn’t want to be with any of them. I was holding out for someone better.” Peeta bit his lip and looked down.

This all sounded more like the Peeta she built up in her mind. “I guess I had an idea of who I hoped you were. That day forced me to toss it all out the window.” Katniss replied.

“And who did think I was before that day?”

Katniss looked away, she couldn’t face him while she told him about the imaginary Peeta she had in her head. “Kind, generous, someone who didn’t care what others thought, someone who would do the right thing.”

“And after I was just one of them, right?” He added. Katniss swallowed hard and nodded. “I like to think I am more of the person you described before. I came to your talent show, by the way, you were great.”

Katniss’ head popped up in surprise, “You did? Why?”

“I wanted to hear you sing, I always loved your voice.” Peeta looked down, the blush covering his cheeks was spreading along the side of his neck.

“I sang better because of you. After that day the song took on a new meaning to me. I was hurt by you, and that was what the song was all about. Needing to move on.” She stared straight into his eyes and found that same hurt.

“Yeah, then I guess I was right in the feeling that it was meant for me. After hearing it I felt like I had lost my chance, especially after seeing you with Gale, which I know now is nothing more than friendship. Madge and he are good for each other.” Peeta moved to stand, “Katniss I never meant to hurt you, if anything I was just a stupid boy who couldn’t talk to the girl he had a crush on.”

He stuffed his hands in his pockets and started to walk away, but Katniss’ voice stopped him. “And now?”

He turned back towards her, it was getting dark, but she could still see the sincerity in his eyes. “Now I’m just a stupid man who still can’t seem to find the right thing to say to his crush.”

His admission finally gave Katniss the courage to do something about her own crush, “Do you want to go somewhere else to talk. Maybe we can catch up?”

For the first time all night Katniss saw a genuine smile on Peeta’s face. “I’d like that.”

After talking Katniss found out she was actually moving into the same apartment building as Peeta in the Capital. He had taken an entry level job in public relations for a firm near the children’s hospital. One week later he showed up to help her haul her things to her 12th-floor apartment, only three doors down from Peeta’s place. She did a double take when he came down the stairs, he had on jeans, a white t-shirt that was pulled tight across his chest and a backward Panem University hat, just like the last time she spoke to him in high school. It was almost as if she was getting a second chance to finish that day.

After moving everything in Peeta told Katniss to get cleaned up so he could take her out for her first night in her new place. An hour later he showed up at her door in dark jeans and a button-down blue shirt that made his eyes pop even more than normal. Katniss wore a dress she just bought at Madge’s insistence, it was a simple sleeveless green dress that stopped above her knees.

He stopped for a moment, looking her up and down before raising his shaking hand to give Katniss the small bouquet of flowers. “You look beautiful.”

“Thanks, you clean up pretty well yourself.” She answered as she took the flowers from him, realizing the had no clue if she even had a vase for them.

As if he was reading her thoughts he reached down and picked up a small glass vase from next to his feet. “I didn’t think you had a vase, so I got one as well.”

After she placed the flowers in water they left for The Arena, supposedly the best restaurant in the capital. Katniss couldn’t remember the last time she felt so free or laughed so much. She finally put all the pieces together and figured out Gale and Madge were a part of getting Peeta and her to talk last week. Not to mention it was Gale that told her about the apartments Peeta and her live in, she would deal with his meddling ass later.

After dinner, they returned to their apartment building and Katniss noticed Peeta was more nervous now than during the actual date. As they passed her door he paused, “do you want to come over to my place? I know you’re probably tired but there is something I’d like to show you.”

Katniss smiled at him, his cheeks had a blush to them again, how could she say no. “Sure.”

He slipped his keys in and opened the door, placing his hand gently on the small of her back to guide her though. His apartment was the same setup as her’s, a small entry that led to an open floorplan with a great room and kitchen, the bedroom was down a small hall. He turned on the lights and Katniss couldn’t believe her eyes. A large sign hung along the back wall with “Prom 2012” on it and sailboats along, she remembered the theme their senior year had been “Sail Away With Me.”

“What’s all this?” She questioned.

Peeta smiled at her, “Well I was too much of a coward to ask you to prom even though I really wanted to go with you. I thought we could have a do-over.” Peeta hit a few buttons on his phone and “I Won’t Give Up” started playing over the speakers. He then held out his hand which Katniss took, allowing him to pull her close as they swayed to the music.

“I like this prom better than the one we went to,” Katniss admitted as she looked up at Peeta.

“Me too. Don’t get me wrong, I had fun with Delly but I spent the majority of the night looking over at you and Gale.”

“Well, now that you have me what are you going to do with me?” Katniss teased.

“I’m never going to let you go.” Peeta brushed a hair back from her face. “I just wish I had tried to talk to you again after that day.”

Katniss smiled at him. “I didn’t help the situation much. I was too stuck on seeing the bad and not trusting who I knew you really are. But I think this is better anyway.”

“How?” Peeta questioned.

“We know who we are now, and what we want. Before we were just silly kids with a crush.” Katniss raised on her toes so she could do what she really wanted, kiss Peeta. He seemed surprised at first and when his brain caught up he deepened the kiss building a fire in Katniss’ core.

When they finally separated Peeta asked, “and now?”

“I know I want to be with you. Aren’t you supposed to get lucky after prom?”

“I guess so, I didn’t though,”Peeta admitted, even though Katniss knew that was the case.

“I didn’t either.” Katniss pulled away and started walking towards where Peeta’s room should be. “You did say this was a do-over.”

Peeta stood slack-jawed for a few moments before he caught up to her in his room. Katniss stood by the bed waiting for him to make a move, she was so far out of her comfort zone being the aggressor she didn’t know what to do next.

He wrapped his hands around her waist pulling her in for another passionate kiss. “Katniss, are you sure? We don’t have to do anything tonight. I’m fine just being with you.”

Katniss was always better with actions than words, she backed away enough to release her dress and let it fall to her feet. Suddenly she was very self-conscious of the fact she was standing in front of Peeta Mellark in only a set of black lacy underwear. She immediately crossed her hands in front of her, but Peeta closed the gap. “You are breathtaking,” he whispered in her ear before he placed gentle kisses along her neck. All of her thoughts left her mind as she focused on the feeling of Peeta mouth and tongue working his way to the valley of her breast. Katniss moved her hands between them to unbutton his shirt, she pushed it off and took her turn to look him over. His body was still sculpted like a wrestler, strong arms, and broad chest, then her eyes went lower to patch blonde hair that disappeared below his jeans.

Peeta’s hands went to her breast, but she wanted to feel more. She unclasped her bra and let it fall between them. He wrapped his hands around her back and laid her down on his bed to continued worshiping her body with his hands and mouth. When his hands made it to her core he looked at her, “is this okay?”

She looked into his deep blue eyes, this was what she wanted, in fact, she never wanted anything more. Her answer was simple, “yes Peeta, I want you.”

He looped his fingers in her panties slowly pulled them down her legs, she expected him to come back up to her instead his face stopped at her core and the next sensation was one that made her whole body heat up. Peeta worked her with is tongue and mouth, until she exploded. As she recovered he crawled up her body and kissed her deeply, while Katniss tried to move her hands between them to get his pants out of the way. She was on fire and wanted everything. He took the hint and tried kicking his pants down his legs as she helped push them with her feet. He reached past her to the nightstand rifling through it until he found what he was looking for. She thought the signals were clear, but he asked again. “Are you sure you want to?”

Katniss nodded, “I’m sure.”She took the condom from him, ripped it open and rolled it down his length. He was bigger than anyone she’d ever been with, not that it was an extensive list. He slowly pushed in and waited for her to be ready, she bucked her hips and he took it as the sign to move. His thrust were long and deep, hitting her in just the right spot. She felt a second orgasm coming on, “Oh my God Peeta. Don’t stop.”

Peeta smiled at her, “It’s not one for me either, I like to think it’s the start of something else. Something real.”

Katniss kissed him, pouring all the emotions she was feeling into the kiss. She laid her head back on his chest over his heart and let the sound lull her to sleep knowing this is how it was always meant to be.

Why you should be watching Babylon 5

With all the streaming services that are out and about today, it can sometimes be hard to find which ones are slinging the best ‘tent around (that’s content to you plebs). There’s the big players in the game: Netflix, Hulu and Amazon, but lets not forget the mini-bosses in this game of views. Services like: Vue, Sling, Crackle, Twitch, Vevo, Shimmy, Wrangle and Flurp. There are so many out there that I bet you didn’t even realize the last three I mentioned aren’t even real services.

I mean, Yahoo! Screen? Who you trying to kid with that fake news?

Recently while clicking ‘round the wonderful world of Reddit, I noticed I kept seeing an ad at the top of my screen saying that I could stream all of Babylon 5 for free. I shrugged it off as nonsense, some click bait-y type website that would make me read and click through 35 images smothered with ads talking about “What do the People of B5 look like Now?!”

But then, thanks to Big Brother and his tasty cookies, I started seeing the ad more and more on different pages I went to: Reddit, Yahoo! (sorry Screen), Latino-Review, PornHub, xHamster, FistMeisters and Club Penguin. So I decided to take a peek at what this was. Thus I was introduced to a new player in the game: go90.com

I love you.

Sure enough, for free, I could sign up for an account and watch the entirety of Babylon 5 (five seasons) and only have to deal with one 15 second ad before every episode. I couldn’t believe it. ‘Why is this important?’ you ask. Well I will tell you make believe reader.

Babylon 5 is the fucking best sci-fi show of all time.

Come at me Farscape! (but for realzies Farscape is awesome too...)

‘What is Babylon 5?’ you ask again voice in my head. Here’s the Wiki: “Set between the years 2257 and 2262, it depicts a future where Earth has sovereign states, and a unifying Earth government. Colonies within the solar system, and beyond, make up the Earth Alliance, and contact has been made with other spacefaring species. The ensemble cast portray alien ambassadorial staff and humans assigned to the 5-mile-long Babylon 5 space station, a center for trade and diplomacy.”

Sounds complicated and convoluted? You bet your sweet ass it is. J Michael Straczynski (further to be known as JMS because I do NOT feel like typing his last name out 300 times), created this show because he wanted to take an adult approach to science fiction story telling. He has been quoted as saying that he wanted “to take an adult approach to SF, and attempt to do for television SF what Hill Street Blues did for cop shows."

If you think that sentence doesn’t sounds old, then I have a Blockbuster franchise I wanna sell you.

The show mainly focuses around five dominant races/species/civilizations: the Humans, the Minbari, the Narn, the Centuri and the Vorlons). Through the wonders of makeup, costuming and practical effects, these races look, act and feel VASTLY different from each other, despite the fact they are all bi-pedal humanoid type creatures. During the series Babylon 5 goes through many plot lines, all interweaving and intersecting at critical and crucial points that make you slap your head and wonder how the hell they pulled it off. Well the answer is simple, and point number one on my multiple bullet breakdown on why this show rocks.

Who’s ready for bullets and notes, you nerds?!

1) JMS, the creator, wrote 92 of the 110 episodes of the series

Think about that for a second. Almost 84% of the entirety of the series was written by one man, which includes the entirety of the 3rd and 4th seasons (the 3rd being arguably one of the best seasons). A feat, JMS would tout, that had never before accomplished in American Television. Why is this a big deal? Well when you have one singular vision you can expect the unexpected and plan for contingencies you never saw coming. What do you mean by that? Well…

2) Every Character was written with a “trap-door”

Pulled directly from Wiki (because I’m hungover and being a lazy writer for the moment): “Though conceived as a whole, it was necessary to adjust the plot line to accommodate external influences. Each of the characters in the series was written with a ‘trap door’ into their background so that, in the event of an actor's unexpected departure from the series, the character could be written out with minimal impact on the storyline.”

In the words of Straczynski, “As a writer, doing a long-term story, it'd be dangerous and short-sighted for me to construct the story without trap doors for every single character. ... That was one of the big risks going into a long-term storyline which I considered long in advance…” I can’t think of another series that has done this. Contract disputes? Check. Actors dying? Check. Budgetary constraints. Check. All bases covered by this one simple act of having the entire story thought out, conceived, shepherded and written by one man.

Getting rid of unwanted minions? Check.

Why is this “trap-door” thing important? Take the case of Michael O’Hare who played Commander Jeffery Sinclair in the first Season of B5. During the first season O’Hare started having paranoid delusions and hallucinations. As the show continued they worsened, causing him to be difficult to work with O’Hare lashing out at fellow colleagues. JMS offered to suspend the show for several months while he helped him seek treatment, but O’Hare declined because he didn’t want to jeopardize the series or other people’s jobs. He agreed to finish the first season and be written off the show so he could seek treatment. The treatments were only partially successful, but it allowed Sinclair to make a few cameo appearances in Seasons 2 and 3 to finish out his arc properly. After all was said and done, JMS swore to keep O’Hare’s secret to the grave, to which O’Hare replied "keep the secret to my grave", pointing out that fans deserved to eventually learn the real reason for his departure, and that his experience could raise awareness and understanding for people suffering from mental illness. O’Hare suffered a heart attack in NYC in September of 2012, and true to his word, eight months later at Phoenix ComicCon JMS told the story of his late friend and colleague.

3) Visual Pioneer

Most Sci fi shows (and movies for that matter) at the time relied HEAVILY on practical effects. B5 did not when it came to space-time-fun. In order to make the budget stretch, JMS and other producers developed their own in house effects company. This show came out in 1993, the same time Jurassic Park did.

I mean, look at how realistic Goldbulm looks.

Now, while the graphics haven’t aged as gracefully as Jurassic Park did, they also had $100,000 workstations and several years to work on those dino-fects (which total about 6 minutes of the movie) where B5 had $5,000 stations to work on each week, with space scenes taking up a good 33% of the episodes. On top of that, B5 was not filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio like a majority of TV was. It was shot in 16:9 and cropped to fit, which is why today some of the effects haven’t aged really well, but I forgive them.

ZOMG LAZERS PEW PEW

B5 and the effects house Foundation Imaging, also heavily influenced sci-fi TV shows to come after. Star Trek, most notably, were reluctant to use CGI in their TV shows, until B5 showed them that it could be done, and done well. This change happened when the series premiered on television in January 1993, conclusively proving that computer animation, most notably CGI, could be employed in creating spectacular believable VFX on a tight budget. And despite themselves, this was not entirely lost at the time on the Star Trek producers.

David Livingston commented on the use of early CGI in creating the Bajoran lightship for Deep Space Nine: "We were reluctant to do computer graphics, but Peter Lauritson finally came around. He recognized how valuable it is. You can do more stuff with the ship, but you have to do it right.”

Speaking of Deep Space 9, there is a little bit of controversy there. You see, Paramount Television was aware of JMS’ show B5 as early as 1989. JMS attempted to sell the show to Paramount and provided them the series bible, pilot script, artwork, character backgrounds and histories and plot synopsis for the first season or 22 episodes. Paramount declined to produce B5, but then announced Deep Space 9 would be in development two months after Warner Bros. announced that they were produced B5. For those of you not in the know, Star Trek: Deep Space 9 was a notable Star Trek show for one very important reason: it doesn’t take place on a starship…but on a space station. Controlled by the United Federation of Planets (or as B5 had it…the League of Non-Aligned Worlds). There are more “coincidental similarities” but I’ll let JMS say it better than I can in his response to a DS9 fan who took JMS and Warner Bros’ lack of legal action as proof they had no case:

"If there is any (to use your term) winking and nudging going on, it's on the level of 'Okay, YOU (Paramount) know what happened, and *I* know what happened, but let's try to be grownup about it for now,' though I must say that the shapechanging thing nearly tipped me back over the edge again. If there are no more major similarities that crop up in the next few weeks or months, with luck we can continue that way."

4) The Characters

The characters have SO MUCH depth. Without giving up any spoilys, the two biggest arcs in the show belong to G’Kar of the Narn and Londo Mollari of the Centauri. Played with ferocity and earnest by Andreas Katsulas (the one armed man from President Ford’s version of The Fugitive) and Peter Juraik respectively, these two characters go through some of the biggest, hardest and thickest most emotional arcs in the whole show. The Narn and the Centuri have been at war for over 100 years, and they well…hate each other. But every time you think things can come to a peaceful resolution, something happens to reset things back to zero. Both characters (thanks to the wonderful acting by their um…actors) make you feel their despair, pain, struggle, anger and anguish with every line spoken. Every character had a deep backstory and makes you feel for them. Ivanova and her hatred for Psi-Corp. Girabaldi and his alcoholism. Dr. Franklin’s addiction to stims. So on, and so forth.

Something about bad hair and awful decisions...

5) Awards

The show was nominated for eight Emmy Awards, and winning two, including Outstanding Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling for a series. It also won two Hugo Awards (basically the Emmys/Oscars of science fiction and fantasy); two Space Frontier Foundation Awards; an E Pluribus Unum Award presented by the American Cinema Association and a Saturn award for Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series. That’s a lot of ceremonies to attend.

So that’s my pitch. I have owned all 5 seasons of Babylon 5 on DVD for quite some time, but it’s always been a hassle to have to break out the Blu-Ray player, find the right HDMI input, etc., when you can just stream almost anything anywhere. So now that I have this option, I have been binging it, much to my delight. So much so that I have been missing out on current seasons of shows I’ve watched for years like House of Cards & Orange is the New Black, and also not even bothering to start shows like The Expanse or The OA.

There is so much to love with this series. There are even multiple movie spinoffs that, while not necessary to view when watching the show, just add even more depth and stories to the universe.

I can’t wait to finish this series for the umpteenth time so I can just start it over again.

This is a fool's argument and a total apples to oranges comparison. Let me explain, first almost all private universities receive funding from the federal government. The federal government is not going to provide funding for private insurance. The second reason is it's common knowledge that the best Universities in the U.S. are private schools such as Duke, Stanford, and the Ivy League. These universities fill most of the highest paying jobs in the country. Some jobs even go as far as to require a degree from one of these schools (Stock Brokers on NYC Stock Exchange.) These highly paid graduates can donate larger amounts of money back to their respective colleges than the average Joe who graduated from a generic state funded university. No one is going to donate money to the private insurance companies. We can't even get all the people who qualify for insurance to sign up and that's the problem! Look, I have no way of knowing whether the public option will work or won't but when faulty logic is used to support it I become concerned. When most of the people supporting the public option are from California (a state where the middle class is few and far between) I become more concerned. When most of the Senators and Representatives who support the public option say they would prefer the U.S. had a single payer system (that's total government control of health care if you didn't know) I become very concerned. The reality is no one knows what the effects of public option will be. Also, the success of FedEx is not any proof that public option won't hurt private companies because an independent council regulates the mail industry. No independent council is mentioned in any of the plans in the House or Senate. yes or no""

Why do millions of white working class and middle class people believe that Donald Trump cares about them? On the surface of it, it really is mystifying.

I was a kid in the 1980s and 1990s, and I remember well how most middle-American adults in my life thought and spoke of Donald Trump at that time. He was a Manhattanite billionaire playboy who couldn't stay off talk shows and tabloids. His name and image were synonymous with obscene wealth and a decadent lifestyle. He treated women badly, it was known. Small business people, farmers, and factory workers rolled their eyes at Donald Trump. His values could not have had less to do with theirs. Many probably hated him and everything he stood for.

There's always talk of how those politicians who are career attorneys with Ivy League pedigrees, hail from upper-crust families, and maybe vacation in the Hamptons or the French Riviera are maybe a bit out of touch with common people.

But here we have a real estate tycoon for whom the Reagan years were one long limousine ride, an unapologetic egomaniac who delighted in throwing his name up in lights, and a guy who made a television career out of firing people on camera: one would think such a person would represent a whole higher echelon of "out of touch."

So, yeah -- how did this man transform himself into the populist savior of the working class?

Maybe a good place to start is by summarizing the viewpoints of two different people on the state of America: mine, and my father's, which I feel I can represent with a reasonable degree of accuracy, though far from perfectly.

I am a professional classical musician and arts administrator in my mid-thirties. I had some childhood training in conservatories, and I have a college degree in music and philosophy. I make it a point to travel outside the U.S., though not that often.

When I go down to the local taqueria, I place my orders and make small talk in poor but earnest Spanish. It's natural for me be to curious about other cultures, enthusiastic about diversity.

As a boy, I ran around the neighborhood with black kids from families less affluent than mine. My friends throughout grade school included kids from India, Vietnam, Germany, the works. My friends and colleagues in adult life are a diverse bunch, too. Many of my closest friends are gay or trans, and my sexuality has been pretty fluid for most of my life.

My earnings place me in the lower middle class; I work a full-time job plus somewhere between one and three part-time jobs at any given time, as musicians often do. I am unmarried with no children, and plan to stay that way. I love kids, but am not interested in offspring.

I don't align strongly with either of the nation's major political parties.

My view is that the U.S. is run almost entirely in the interests of its very wealthiest citizens, some of whom exert undue influence on the government at every level and hamper its operations much as a cancer hinders the operations of tissues and organs in the body.

I am extremely sympathetic to the ideals of democratic socialism. I think that poverty is most often, though not always, the result of inadequate opportunity and socioeconomic disenfranchisement, and that extreme wealth is most often, though not always, the result of privilege rather than the natural reward for genuine hard work in a spirit of convivial cooperation.

It seems self-evident to me that the neo-feudal influence of increasingly powerful and cannibalistic corporations is directly responsible for the engagement of the United States in aggressive geopolitical posturing and resource wars, which are represented to the public as patriotic endeavors; for the failure of the U.S. to divert any portion of a truly corpulent defense budget to the better care of its citizens and its health and education infrastructures; for the extreme reliance of the American populace on credit; and for the refusal of the U.S. to regulate its economy with the imperfect but at least vaguely functional common sense exercised by comparable industrial nations.

The U.S. isn't run by sinister moguls in a smoky backroom enclave. Rather, plutocracy and oligarchy are predictable outcomes of the kind of socioeconomic principles on which the nation was founded to begin with. I can't see that capitalism and democracy are compatible without an awful lot of intercession, is the gist of it. I think that the market is chaotic and unreliable as a governing force, because the market is made in the image of a chaotic and unreliable population. Try as we might, we don't always know what is in our best interests, since our "needs" are now often manufactured by marketers.

I believe that the electoral system in our republic is such that it guarantees a near-total lack of diversity in viewpoints and approaches, and strongly encourages politicians to say and do whatever it takes to win over the necessary constituent base -- without then providing meaningful incentive for them to commit to genuine matters of policy with any degree of integrity.

I believe that the mass media in our country specialize not so much in informing the populace impartially as in creating and nurturing two opposing camps and then allowing each to bathe perpetually in whatever it is that they want to hear, ensuring the division of the nation into factions which are ideologically hostile toward one another and do not communicate with one another. It makes for great ratings. This is evidenced most acutely in questions of civil liberty and tolerance, which allow candidates to make great hay from simple hot-buttons, but indeed manifests in various ways throughout virtually every aspect of American life.

My father's view, as best I am able to represent it, is quite different.

He is a small business owner with no college degree, a father of five children by two marriages, and an extremely intelligent and down-to-earth individual whose ceaseless, gritty hard work and carefully managed business decisions have, even in the face of dire adversity at times, enabled his children to pursue their dreams in a way that he, to a great extent, could not.

His earnings place him in the upper middle class. He believes that he could have done even better for himself and his family, had politicians not been continually trying to steal his money.

Dad was always completely financially supportive of me, well above and beyond the call. But he never took much interest in me personally, and feels fundamentally that he and I have nothing in common. For my part, I have sadly done very little in life to disabuse him of that notion. We bonded over certain things when I was very young, and those are some of my most treasured memories; by the time I graduated high school, we were living on different planets. I was a rebellious hellion.

He loves his grandchildren and spoils them ridiculously. It's wonderful to watch.

He has never traveled outside the United States, and his daily life has, for pretty much all of my memory, been divided almost expressly between work and sleep.

Dad grew up on family farms, and his best friends were his cousins. In that place and time, white people and black people did not readily socialize on equitable terms. That's how he was taught to experience the world. He identifies strongly with George Wallace's stand against racial integration -- or did at one point, at least -- and believes, in a very general sense, that black people somehow want for free what white people have somehow achieved through hard work and sacrifice.

I should add that Wallace did not resonate with Dad because he detests black people. He does not. Dad liked Wallce because he believes that the federal government is essentially evil, and that nearly every imaginable issue ought to be handled by the states.

For Dad, integration was not the inexorable march of justice. It was the federal government telling him and his peers how to live, and turning Alabama into Ohio.

He believes that wealth is usually, but not always, the result of acumen and discipline, and that poverty is usually, but not always, the result of laziness and a sense of entitlement.

He judges the U.S. government to be corrupt and incompetent by nature, and that its officers make a living by sucking their subjects dry, the pursuit of which is their sole guiding interest. Environmentalism is, in his mind, only the latest and hottest money-making scheme in Washington.

He believes that the electoral system in the country exists to protect middle-class common sense and hard work from the self-congratulatory solipsism of the Hollywood and New York liberals, most of whom are criminals unaccountable to the law.

He'd tell you that the mass media exists solely to express the viewpoints of wackos who live in an alternate universe and are his ideological enemies.

Dad says that the United States is being overrun by Muslims and other foreign minorities. He'd say that most of the war activity of the United States in the past couple of generations has been carried out solely for the just purpose of crushing those who wish his country doom; now, that Great Other is in his neighborhood, waiting to take everything he has from him.

I'd guess that, in his view, homosexual and trans people are weak and psychologically flawed persons with an addiction to the attention of others -- they are not so much immoral as tragically afflicted, and he is okay with them as long as he doesn't have to think about them too much. Certainly he does not think they need to be "converted." He would say that such an approach is ridiculous, I bet.

Finally, he believes that the presidency of Barack Obama represented the ultimate ascendancy of anti-American traitors and their foreign hordes, and that a Clinton presidency would have maintained an identical agenda: enslaving white, middle-class Americans for the benefit of wealthy, crooked foreigners and their cohorts on the American coasts. He aligns with the Republican Party with perfect consistency, and has at least since I was born, at about the time of Reagan's first election.

You can probably see that I would never have voted for Donald Trump, and perhaps you can understand why I voted for Clinton only with great reluctance, primarily as a means of attempting to stop Trump from creating a billionaire theme park out of his drained swamp.

I am actually willing to give Mr. Trump the benefit of the doubt on some of his economic positions, as shaky as I feel them to be on the whole; but I am sorely afraid for the future of civil liberties, cultural tolerance and integration, environmental health, and foreign policy under the strictly for-profit federal government that he is creating.

Likewise, you can probably surmise that my father was an enthusiastic Trump supporter. Quite beyond my ready comprehension, he esteems Donald Trump to be a selfless patriot who has recanting and given up his decadent billionaire lifestyle to serve the interests of the America That Time Forgot.

Dad is not a religious man, and he is probably elated to have been presented with a candidate who has built a platform mostly, if not entirely, devoid of religious sanctimoniousness, and otherwise using language which is almost perfectly aligned with his own worldview.

I've often felt that there are certain thinkers and movers in the American political spectrum whose views align reasonably closely with my own, but who are not really willing to go far enough to act upon them. I'm guessing that, until now, Dad has felt that pretty much no one in U.S. politics understands his frustrations.

That's all it takes. Donald Trump, however genuinely or disingenuously, has broadcast a clear message on the precise frequency to which my father and many people similar to him have long been listening in hopes of hearing something other than static. Under the right conditions, that's all you need to turn a delirious demagogue into the most powerful man on Earth.

Being blessed with two eyes, two ears, and a memory--and not hungering for a the "simpler times" that my father surely must--I see Trump for what he is: an opportunistic charlatan who cared only about November 8, 2016 and the ways in which the results of that day will benefit him personally. His only concern is winning, as he has written in print numerous times over the years.

True to form, most of the actions he has taken in his first few days in power have smacked of symbolic vindictiveness, a pouting child's revenge.

My opinion of Secretary Clinton is somewhat higher, but not a great deal higher, truth be told. I believe that she uses the insecurities and uncertainties of minorities and the poor to similar personal and political advantage, often quite superficially. I believe she is equally ruthless, in her own way.

If the progressive movement in the United States does not learn to engage and speak to the people that disagree with its tenets without making them feel like backwards simpletons, it will never move forward without then having to take two steps back.

If progressives do not learn to create fresh common ground and alliances with those whom they are told hate them and all they represent, then I think the future of the nation is a bleak one.

Electoral politics has unfortunately become a zero-sum sportsball game in our country. No more than half the nation's people feel, at any given time, that their interests are being represented. So greater inclusiveness and depth of relation are needed, I think, if genuine progress is to be made and sustained.

This is not an easy task. Ideological warfare has already taken its toll; the way forward is not clear. I think it will necessarily involve much original thought on the part of a people no longer as accustomed to such intricacies as perhaps they once were.

I've been sheltered from a number of the realities that my parents had to face in their lives. It's not difficult for me to appreciate them, but it is almost impossible for me to understand them. I am sure my parents can't fathom why it is that I want certain people and things in my life, and why I'm oblivious to certain matters that, for them, are nothing short of crucial.

I know many people my age, and younger, who feel themselves to be in similar generational disarray.

It is truly difficult for Dad and me to be in the same room when politics is in the air, and not for any lack of love. My journey through Trump's America begins with looking for a way to change that.
