This is kind of a pilot/proof of concept for something I wanted to mess with. Wanted to see how it goes over with people. I might upload more if any one is actually interested, so let me know.
---
Fuck the Plot:
Luz walked downstairs, still rubbing the sleep from her eyes. The dark room she was met with was filled with bookshelves, each one had tons of books organized by genre and author. A simple counter stood between her and the dozens of books. She turned on the light and went about her daily tasks.
The place wasn't really hers. Luz merely rented the space upstairs from the owner, who also gave her a job as a cashier/ store runner. Luz owed the owner, Raven, a lot for taking the sixteen year old in, giving her a job, and a place to stay.
Once she finished wiping down the counter, she grabbed a cart full of books to reshelf. To think it was only a month ago that she found herself there. This was possibly the best job she’s had, with great pay.
Luz finished shelving the books and made her way to the front door. She flipped the sign to open and unlocked it before going back to behind the counter. She sighed as a blue see-through panel popped up before her.
[Daily Task Complete!
Raven’s nest: Prepare the store for open hours
Rewards: 50 EXP, +1 respect from early birds]
She blinked and thought the screen away. Ever since she woke up, these screens seemed to follow her. It seemed similar to a screen in a video game. Which Luz thought made sense in the world she found herself in. She hadn't noticed what really happened or where she was until she met Raven.
Raven was a demon with gray skin, violet hair, and four eyes. The top pair was a red color and the bottom the same violet as her hair. Luz was confused for a minute, sure that Raven was some cosplayer who’d gone camping for some reason. That thought went away pretty quickly when Raven pointed out the giant skull in the distance. That was when Luz realized she was in a world similar to the game ‘Titan’s Will’.
Titan’s Will was one of Luz’s favorite games. It might have been a long game, over 100 hours of gameplay, but it was well made with in-depth character arcs when the player puts in the time. The plot of the game was a magicless witch learning magic in order to beat the Big Bad. Luz was ecstatic about being in the world until she realized one thing. In order to win the game, the protagonist had to die.
She had no issue with that detail when it was just a game, but when Luz was actually at risk it seemed less great. That wasn't too big a deal when the character gets brought back, but there was another problem. More often than not, when Luz played the game, she died at least twice including the canon death.
In the game, it was pretty simple as the player could just restart the battle, but Luz had no idea if that worked for her in this game. Luz was terrified about dying before she got to the canon one with no way to revive. There was one option to Luz, just avoid the plot of the game. If the protagonist was in this world too, then it didn't matter that Luz didn't play an active role. They could use their plot armor and beat the bad guy and everything else themself.
So Luz, in the world of a game and the abilities of a gamer, spent the month hidden from the plot by working at a small bookstore that isn't even mentioned in the game. To the human, it was the perfect hiding space. She was brought out of her thoughts by the door opening.
“Welcome to Raven’s Nest.” She said only to pause at the sight of the customer. It was a teen girl around Luz’s age, maybe older, with long dyed green hair that went past her shoulders while tied up, the roots grown out enough to reveal the original brown. Her eyes a sharp, piercing gold. Luz’s throat and mouth felt unnaturally dry at that moment. ‘[Observe]!’
A new screen popped up.
[Name: Amity Blight
Species: Witch]
Fuck. it was exactly who she thought it was. Amity Blight, one of the possible love interests, one of Luz’s favorite characters, and most importantly, a plot important character. The hell was she doing in this hole-in-the-wall bookstore?
She blinked the screen away only for a new one to take its place.
[A skill has level up!
Observe: 5 → 6]
Now really wasn't the time for a skill level up. Even if it was nice that it did, Luz couldn't focus on it. She blinked that screen away too and watched Amity move around the store. This wasn't dire, the protagonist doesn't even meet Amity until after twenty minutes of gameplay. Unless you were a speedrunner, of course. But this was a pebble that could cause major ripples in her plan. The plot was sneaking up on her.
Amity placed a stack of books on the counter. She swallowed the lump in her throat and said, “Find everything alright?”
Amity hummed as Luz marked prices down to create a receipt. She said nothing about a witch fictional story hidden among the textbooks. Luz handed Amity the receipt, telling her the total. The teen left after paying and Luz slammed her head against the counter.
The fucking plot. It was catching up on her. Fuck this. Fuck the plot that would kill her if she played a part.

Thelreads, Vigilantes 26, Replies Part 2
1) “Oh no you’re not gonna gloss over that one, how the hell did he even managed to fit the defibrillator inside the stun gun? Those things can get small, but even so they are sharing space with a high-voltage weapon, and those things use some serious batteries, and you already used it twice, no way an electrical discharge like that would fly so many times in rapid succession without draining it completely.”- True, third time with a battery that’s already been used before is a bit risky- ideally, Knuckle would have preferred to use the Taser once before restarting Tamao’s heart, but Kuin forced him to use the resuscitation function once on himself, so he’s really just hoping the battery still has enough charge in it to work enough time to fulfil his need to restart Tamao’s hands- I can confirm that you sometimes need multiple shocks to get a heart working again, as standard procedure is to use about a minute of compression between shocks to keep the heart flowing and hope the next once revives the victim’s consciousness, so Knuckle probably had the batteries designed large enough to use multiple shocks on the target- he’s running with less power than he would like, but there’s nothing he can do about that but hope and pray it’s enough to revive Tamao.
As for the ‘equipment’ it really just seems to be a pair of wires that can be rolled up and stored inside the handle of the Taser- modern defibrillators can actually come the size of a 6-year old’s school lunchbox, and that’s to fit stuff like the pads for attachment to the body- since Knuckle’s sidestepping that in favour of a bare-bones approach towards the same principle, he’s able to save on space to achieve roughly the same function, which is all he needs.
2)“That was a weird coincidence, downright tragic irony caused by the universe, or, as we know, God being an asshole and causing a lot of pain. I’ll be going with the last one, we know that Furuhashi was probably giggling while writing this, going “oh, this is going to be so clever…””- It actually was pretty clever, because tamao accidentally screwed herself by choosing to mimic Knuckleduster’s own weapon of choice against him- because she used her own stun-gun tactic, she basically deadened her arm and gave knuckleduster a reason to test-run his defibrillator gismo before putting it to the real test of saving/killing Tamao in the best way possible to separate the queen and herself. Had she used something else, like actual vemon-tipped claws, Knuckleduster would have been screwed, but because she tried to play him at his own game, she gave him an out to catch her off-guard, with a fatal outcome for the queen.
3) “Knuckle please, that isn’t your daughter yet, and again, you gave the idea, she doesn’t deserve points for that one.”-Well, either way, he’s damn glad she went with that plan, rather than something else, cause at least with her mimicking him, he’s still got a trump card he can bring to play here.
4) “Of course, she’ll try to pull some funny shit, but just like Furuhashi, she’s about to meet the unforgivable bat of NOPE as she messes up and gets taken down for good.”-Her greatest mistake was trying to beat Knuckle at his own game- Nobody fights as on-the-fly adaptable as him, not even his own kid
5) “And I see what Knuckle did there, he used his omega taser to pull a uno reverse card on his own heart. Now, I’m not going to go over the exact details of how defibrillators work and more specifically when so they work, but… Yeah, let’s just move…”-At least knuckle didn’t 100% BS MacGyver his Taser into a makeshift defib- he had the foresight to plan ahead for that one, and combined the pair of them into one extra-handy package, which I guess explains the huge size of the ting- it’s not to denote the wattage it can output, it’s to store all the necessary cables and such to make the procedure go as smoothly as possible.
6) “Oh god jesus christ Knuckle did you jabbed those electrodes into your flesh? I mean, their position do make it so a electrical current would go through your heart but, you know, I think you’d end up electrocuting yourself to death if you pressed the button; muscles locking in are one of the main reasons people end up dead when messing with electricity, they can’t let go of the source.”- Another hint it’s actually not a jury-rigged defibrillator he made out of his Taser in desperation, but something more prepared for this exact purpose, with a brief time-out period once knuckle zaps his heart with the battery to avoid his muscles locking in. Granted, it’s not to the standards of professional medical equipment either, but it’s certainly more prepared for that task than you’d expect.
7) “Oh boy, I don’t even have that much to talk about this time, the chapter didn’t let much open for me to comment in afternotes, but I’m still a little skeptical about the usage of that taser as a defibrillator, or at least with having Knuckle applying it to himself.”- Find it a bit more believable now that it turns out Knuckle designed the damn thing to be a 2-in-1 deal? It’s much more convenient than lugging around a defibrillator pack in addition to the Taser, when It stands the risk of being broken in the scuffle, but the Taser itself is defined to be sturdy and can take a beating whilst still functioning.
8) “What are you Giran, a cop? Let the man abuse the hack he found in that unbalanced weapon of his, before the mods find it out and patch it. Also, he still wants that delivery of meth on his house by Friday.”-  I can’t tell if Giran is joking about Knuckle’s self-abuse through his vigilante work and the supplies he needs to pull off his stunts, or he genuinely thinks Knuckle is a thrill-seeker using all of this crazy equipment on himself to get high off the thrill of coming closer to death- there’s actually quite a few people who enjoy risky stunts like this for the adrenaline boost they get from near-death experiences.
9) “Well, at least he’s doing proper CPR instead of just magically bringing her back a la Victor Frankenstein.”-  Can confirm that there’s a fairly realistic use of proper medical procedure being use to resuscitate Tamao here- the electrodes being placed in to proper location on the body for example.
10) “Well, she’s going to see her mom soon, since she’s probably dead by now-
THEY ARE GOING TO BULLSHIT ME AND SAY HER MOM’S ALIVE AS WELL, AREN’T THEY?!”- I mean, technically, they’re both still alive, just distant from Knuckleduster mentally- though it’s implied that Mamaduster’s condition has progressed to the point where she’s no longer sitting upright and staring vacantly out a window, but instead is lying down and just breathing as her body begins to slowly shut down.
11) “The poor thing, being jailed again after being used by the same fucking monster- At least she’s dead now, as well as her previous host.”-I wonder if the police will even be able to tell it’s the same guy underneath all that? Like, his mind’s been reduced to an incoherent rambling mess except when it comes to his wants and needs, his fingerprints will likely have changed, and his DNA will be a chemical mess after all the experimental trigger they hopped him up on.
12) “OH MY GOD YES, YOU ALLOWED HIM TO STAY JSUT SO HE CAN LISTEN TO POP SINGING
AIZAWA, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, YOU HAVE NO IDEA, YOU TSUNDERE HOBO HUSBANDO, YOU”- The words ‘bless this mess’ were likely made for Aizawa.
13) “OH THAT’S A NICE PANEL RIGHT THERE, OH HELL YEAH, WE NEEDED SOMETHING HAPPY AFTER THAT EYE SCENE”- Yeah, it’s a real feast for the eyes… oops, too soon.
14) “CC, WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT BEING ON STANDBY WHILE THERE WAS POSSIBLE VILLAINS ON THE LOOSE? THE FACT THAT THE POLICE ARRIVED TO ARREST ONE VILLAIN DOESN’T CHANGE THAT”- CC is a showboater before he’s a hero, often to his detriment, but at least for now, we’ll let it slide. Just let Makoto capture the moment on film so she can use it for further blackmail material.
15) “POP WAS THE STAR TONIGHT, SHE FINALLY SANG IN FRONT OF A REAL CROWD AND SHE NAILED IT
WHAT IS THAT SOUND OF CPR IN THE DISTANCE? MEH, DON’T BOTHER ABOUT IT, THE REAL DEAL™ IS OVER HERE”-Who needs a big-ass Taser when Knuckle could have just had Kuin watch that heart-stopper of a show?
16) “THANK YOU AIZAWA, BLESSED BE YOUR HOBONESS”- The dirty Hobo exterior is necessary to hide the shine from his heart of gold
17) “Oh! Phelps is here now, right on time to see Knuckle carrying his daughter body to the morgue.
Aizawa is not amused on meeting All Might’s boyfriend, that’s for sure.”- You know, I don’t think we’ve ever really seen these two interacting in the main series? Like, they were both nearby in the aftermath of the USJ attack, but Aizawa was still recovering from getting turned into a human pretzel, and afterwards Tsukauchi was more concerned/connected to the investigation side of finding out the League’s current location whereas Aizawa was more focused on keeping his crazy kids in line and out the league’s line of fire. It’s nice getting to see two characters tangentially connected actually meeting for once, but it does sorta feel like a crossover from to different genres
18) “Oh, that’s a interesting comment to make. Nothing would say that the drugs weren’t responsible for this, like some nasty side effects, but, Aizawa seems to already suspect that something else was done to this poor boy a-
OH MY GOOD HE’S WAVING GOODBYE TO AIZAWA”- It’s likely they hooked him up to some machines and such to help stabilise his body whilst it was mutating from their experiential trigger injection, so the drug was likely the main factor, but they probably had some specially-designed equipment in play to make sure the transformation didn’t kill him, or to better record how far he was able to mutate before it did and revise their testing data for next time. And for a guy who’s not have a 5th limb until a few weeks ago, Teruo’s sure adapted enough to having a tail, given that a tail was exactly the kind of example All might used when pointing out somebody wouldn’t be able to pull off incredibly skilled tricks with a quirk mutation first go.
19) “Oh, you gonna mention the bee to him? Well, that seems like something that you definitely would need to talk about, since you seem to be already on the whole “there’s some other fuckery going on right now” stuff”- I like that Aizawa’s understanding of there being some behind the scenes stuff at play here makes him bring up anything suspicious or out of place about the scene- like, he can’t tell exactly what was going on, because he himself doesn’t have enough pieces to make a full story, so he just lists all the weird stuff he saw in hopes Phelps can put it together into a coherent narrative somehow, cause he doesn’t know how any of this makes sense- If he hadn’t seen the bee, he’d have probably listed some other weird things he’d seen about the place in hopes it could help, which isn’t saying much since weird has become the norm in Quirk society.
20) “Oh, right, they just killed the goddamn queen. Whoops, sorry but I think this lead is a dead end.
ha ha, “dead” end…”- Well, not as dead as we’d like, but certainly not in any fit state to do more bee-related madness for a long time until the hive’s able to rebuild itself….
21) “who the fuck are you?
why are you on focus right now?
why I immediately thought about Stain for some reason?
what are you carrying in that… bottle?”-
Ah, this guy…. Fuck this guy, that is all.
22) “WHAT IS IN THE BOTTLE?
WHAT IS IN THE GODDAMN BOTTLE?!”- Well, you’ll be glad to know it’s not a severed head, unless there’s a shrinking quirk involved.
23) “NOT SHOWING THE LEFT EYE, TALKING ABOUT BEE-RELATED STUFF AND BEING AWARE OF THE DATA THAT NEEDED TO BE COLLECTED, AND TALKING ABOUT THE BEE THAT SURVIVED THE PURGE AS “WE””-You know, I didn’t actually realise they might be trying to trick us into thinking this guy was another bee user at first, so props to you for pointing that out- but nah, he’s not a direct part of the hive-mind like Kuin/Tamao was- he’s just using the Royal We, because he seems to have a habit of talking to himself, like he’s got an audience watching him- which he sorta does in us, but in universe, there’s not much reason for him to do on this entire spiel when his presence here is supposed to be an incognito rescue job for the remnants of the hive.
24) “OH WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT
WAS THAT A JUMP? OR DID YOU TELEPORTED THERE? IT WAS FAST ENOUGH THAT YOU WAS BACK BEFORE THE BOTTLE EVEN FELL TO  THE GROUND WHAT THE FU-
WHAT
IS THIS THE HOST’S QUIRK?”- It’s pure speed- or appears to be, based on the fact that he moves to grab the bee whilst the bottle’s in mid-air and in-between panels he’s already fitted the still-living bee inside the bottle by the time he returns to his prior position, before it or we can react- a neat way of showing he moved in the literal blink of an eye, and with accompanying lighting effects similar to Izuku using full Cowl, which implies he’s at least similar in movement speed to OFA at low levels
25) “WHAT IN THE FUCK’S NAME
WHAT
A- A LEFT EYE?!
NO
BUT- HOLY SHIT IS THIS NOT A HIVE OR IS THIS THE TRUE BEE USER?”- well, he’s not a hive like Tamao was, due to the lack of a distinctive ‘entry hole’ in his skull, but it’s possible that he has means of producing the bees from his body hidden underneath his work overalls there, but if his quirk is the true bee user, then that wouldn’t explain his high-speed movements just now, so he’s unlikely to be directly connected to the hive himself- rather, much like everything in the start of MHA lead up to the Kamino ward fight, and resolved the long-hanging issue of All might’s fight with AFO, leading into Tomura starting to take the reins as the big bad villain going forward from that point on, everything leading up to this point was arc 1 of vigilantes- and now that the looming threat of Kuin and her history with Knuckleduster has been resolved it’s time for the next link in the trigger supplier ring to step in and take her place, continuing on operations in his own way, with his own methods, and a greater appreciation of the threat the vigilantes pose to the ring, now they’ve taken down one of their more useful pawns.
26) “and now we’re getting a bigger threat showing up to the scene after the queen fell, not only someone that apparently is related to the bees, possibly the one behind the queens in the first place, although this seem a bit unlikely now, but in the very least someone that is fast, really fast”-Meet the new boss, same as the old boss- well, not exactly the same, but you get the idea. @thelreads

All the zeldas. Just. All. Of them
I….Michi I was going to apologize for not getting to this until today, but considering how many Zelda games there are I no longer regret not doing this last night.
Under the cut, bc do you know how many games there are including spinoffs? Too many to not be under a cut.
The Legend of Zelda
never played | want to play | terrible | boring |okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I watched my brother and mom play it bc we have it on this special edition disk that had like, four LoZ games on it, and it’s certainly a game of its time which means it’s super-hard if you don’t know what you’re doing, and still hard even if you do, so I probably won’t try it anytime soon.
The Adventure of Link
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
This was also one of the games on the aforementioned special edition disk, which I watched my brother and mom attempt far enough to know you couldn’t pay me to try and beat the game. My understanding is this is fundamentally one of the most–if not THE most–difficult games in the entire franchise. A product of it’s time, entirely unique in it’s RPG-style mechanics which didn’t work out for the gameplay that well, I’ve only read one story of someone beating the game it’s that hard.
Despite not wanting to play either of the very first two games, I really love the implied story components of each, esp. in terms of the ever-inconsistent and changing lore. So, for story and maps, these games are neat.
A Link to the Past
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
The very first LoZ game I ever played, so it has a special place in my heart. Also the first game to introduce the “zelda formula” that made the series so successful, so I gotta applaud it for that too.
Link’s Awakening / Link’s Awakening DX
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I roughly know the story components and this is…one hell of a weird story, but like, I love the design for the Wind Fish, and Marin came from this game so I kinda want to try playing it for myself eventually.
Ocarina of Time
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
The first time I played this was well after I played Wind Waker, so this game doesn’t have the nostalgia factor for me that it has for most fans. When I first played it I got tired of Navi bugging me to save Zelda, even though I was in the middle of having fun with side quests, so I stopped and never beat it. When I went back years later to try and beat it I got stuck in Ganon’s Tower and refused to look up a guide, and have thus, still never beat it. Eventually I should look up a playthough of the ending just so I know exactly what happens, bc even though this isn’t one of my fave games, it’s so important for timeline theory and lore that I kinda need to know shit about the game. Not actually sure how I got through the Water Temple twice.
Majora’s Mask
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Listen. I like side quests. They’re fun. But generally speaking they’re optional and not needed to complete the main storyline. When I found out that the only way to have a relatively easy time getting into this game’s “water temple” was by completing a ton of other side quests, it kinda broke my will to complete the game. Also I don’t do well on timers, so I dunno if I’ll ever beat this game. I mean I still might try bc there’s a lot of interesting story points in the game, but like, I really, really, really hate being put on a time limit and having to restart the three-day cycle constantly. Love the dark themes though, those are fun.
Oracle of Seasons & Ages
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed?
(I lumped these two games together bc there’s a way to link the stories, but they are technically two different games.) I seem to remember a friend of my mom’s lending one of these games to me and my brother a long time ago but I couldn’t get past the first dungeon bc I was young and sucked at boss fights. I might buy and try to play these games at some point though bc the stories are really interesting and the games are cheapish on Nintendo’s eshop.
Four Swords
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
It, uh…it exists. Dunno much about it but I hate the map bc it fucks up all of my land- and cartography-based theory-crafting.
Wind Waker
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed?
So I can’t remember if I, personally, have ever beaten the game, but I did make it to the end before going off to do side quests, and also my brother beat it which I watched, so I know the entire story. Overall a good game, my only major complaint is Tetra turning white after she “becomes Princess Zelda” and also the fact that she goes from kickass pirate to passive damsel in distress. My favorite Ganondorf, for both design and story. Also the graphics aged surprisingly well? Oh, and I loved the Rito, and the exploration aspect was one of the best executed of any LoZ game (the best in my opinion, before BotW came along). Gameplay and mechanics were one of the strongest of any LoZ game I’ve played as well.
Four Swords Adventures
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
This is one of the really underrated LoZ games, but honestly the gameplay is? Really solid and fun. Also the graphics were really good, esp. considering 2D style games weren’t being made as often when it came out. This is one of like, two or three LoZ games that I’ve beaten more than once–in fact I think I’ve beaten this game more than any other LoZ game, and it’s probably my first or second most-replayed-and-beaten game of any game I’ve played. It’s kinda like, a comfort game for me. Also the manga for this game was excellent.
Minish Cap
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Another really underrated game with solid gameplay and graphics. Like, this game is really good, and I also really loved the story.
Twilight Princess
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | EXCELLENT | a favorite | played but never completed
This is my personal favorite LoZ game of the entire series, I really, really love this game. It’s also the only LoZ that I know I’ve beaten 100%, like all the side quests, all the heart containers, items, poe souls, everything. One of the few LoZ games that I’ve replayed and beaten multiple times. It was also the first LoZ game that I completed bc I used to have a bad habit of never beating LoZ games for some reason. Also the home of my two top fave LoZ characters, Midna and Shad. I just…I really love this game.
Phantom Hourglass
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I hate putting “terrible” down for any game, but listen. The mechanics were a nightmare, everything about trying to move around and fight was so frustrating. The only reason I stuck with the game as long as I did was Linebeck–but when I learned the last dungeon was also the dungeon I’d been forced to go through again and again and again, I just…couldn’t do it and I’ve never picked up the game since. I should look up the ending for this as well, bc the story was good, it’s just…the gameplay…no.
Spirit Tracks
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I hated playing Phantom Hourglass, so I never even bought this one. The aesthetics are cute, like I really like the trains and stuff, and it’s neat that Zelda travels with you. But the colonialist undertones are…yikes.
Skyward Sword
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I really enjoyed playing this game, despite the fact that there was too much hand-holding and Fi’s assistance was more annoying than helpful most of the time. But the story and the visuals, and the music–I really enjoyed those aspects of the game. I’ve also replayed and beaten this game a couple of times, despite the flaws, just bc I was really endeared to the characters and story.
A Link Between Worlds
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
This was another really fun game, and I really liked all of the characters and the cute graphics. Not much to say on this bc it was honestly just, really fun and good. It was a really fun way to revive the Hyrule of A Link to the Past.
Tri Force Heroes
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
My friend bought this as a graduation present for me, but it’s more fun to play together with two other people, so I haven’t been able to play it much past the first couple of areas, but what I did play was quirky and fun.
Breath of the Wild
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I really enjoyed playing the game, and generally speaking it’s one of the most solid games in terms of gameplay and mechanics. And the exploration is excellent, like it was so much fun to explore the gigantic world of Hyrule. But. There needed to be more story, more lore, and more music. Like what we got was great, but it was extremely lacking, even compared to games with glaring plot holes in the story, like there was just so little to work with. And there was too much “here’s these mysterious ruins that we will tell you nothing about and there’s no way to learn anything about them. ever.” moments while I was exploring. And just, I wanted more story really, more than anything.
Literally all the CGi games and games produced between 1993-1997
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Enough said.
I’m also lumping all the Tingle spinoff games together bc this is getting really long
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Tingle is a discomfort character for me, like not a major discomfort character, just a minor one, but enough that I’ve never willingly looked into these games, despite any good things I’ve heard about them.
Game & Watch Zelda
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I didn’t even know this existed.
Link’s Crossbow Training
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I know that this takes place in the Twilight Princess Hyrule, but that’s about it.
My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
never played | want to play? | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
Listen, I had no idea this existed either, but? It’s based off my fave game so? If I get the chance to play it, then I sure as hell will give it a whirl.
Hyrule Warriors (including Legends and the Definitive Edition)
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite | played but never completed
I never got the original game bc it was for the Wii U, but I have Legends and my brother bought the Definitive Edition, the latter of which I’m currently playing. It’s honestly just a plain fun game, with solid gameplay. I like being able to feel powerful and badass, and literally half the playable characters are women which is nearly unheard of in fighting-based games. And like? I can play as TWO different versions of Midna? AND Impa is so gorgeous and really well-written, like damn, I love her so much. Linkle is actually really fun to play and really cool, and I like the fact that she isn’t just “Link but a girl” like she really stands on her own as a unique character. It’s also pretty interesting to be able to play as several villains. My only complaint is Cia, but not bc she’s a poorly written character or fanservice central, but like…LoZ in particular has a really, really bad habit of coding the evil and corrupted final big bad guy as dark-skinned and like…having an evil dark-skinned villainess who’s also fanservicy especially with Lana being Cia’s “light and goodness” it’s just…yikes. I don’t think I need to spell that out further. My understanding is that Cia gets a redemption arc of some sort eventually, but I’m not far enough in the story mode to confirm this. I sure as hell hope it’s true bc she deserves better than to just be an evil, albeit okay-written, fanservice villain.
And that’s all of them, this literally took me all day. I now know of several games I had no idea existed, yet I have no idea what to do with this info.

UFC 3 is set to release this week but we have already stepped into the octagon. Was it ready for the bell, or should it return to training camp?
Read our review to find out.
The UFC video game franchise has grown quite a bit since it’s first installment and really feels like it’s been around longer than it has. Last year’s release was a decent edition and garnered some pretty good review scores, but was lacking in the career mode area. This years release wanted to change that and the G.O.A.T. career mode in UFC 3 is light years ahead of what was offered in UFC 2.
Before we dive into more on GOAT mode, the base game itself has also seem some major improvements. First thing EA Sports did was to get back in the motion capture ring using their new Real Player Motion tech that captured smoother action from each fighter. Not only that, but when it came to capturing combos EA didn’t just capture a bunch of different strikes to copy and paste together later, but instead captured full combos by a fighter so that those animations would look and feel more natural, and they do. As folks that love a good striker, seeing a smooth three punch combo like a Right hook – Left uppercut – Right hook put someone on the canvas in sweet succession is not only eye pleasing, but satisfying as well.
The controls were revamped a bit as well, but not to the point of making the game feel totally different. Blocking is much easier and transitioning from defense to offense felt much quicker. This gives the stand-up modes a more boxing like feel which comes in handy on a couple of other non-standard UFC modes. More on that later. The ground game hasn’t changed much at all but you can turn on simple a defense that uses button presses instead of analog stick controls. All in all, the controls felt better and easier to use when standing and boxing.
As I said earlier, career mode is light years ahead of last years release. The goal isn’t just to fight and win a championship, the goal is to become the Greatest of all Time (G.O.A.T.). Depending on the difficulty level you choose, this can either be fairly easy to achieve or it could be downright impossible. Once you have achieved it, a new difficulty is unlocked called Legendary that is very unforgiving and keeps you from being able to restart a fight if you got the crap beat out of you.
You’ll start your career out in the WFA, which is like a minor league system that is used to train and evaluate up and coming fighters. EA Sports does use their Gameface technology for UFC 3 if you want a more personalized experience, and it works pretty well. We did run into a problem with the Gameface page loading due to having used it with UFC 2 but finally figured out if we went to the gender selection page of their system it allowed us to start over. The likeness to a real person is pretty uncanny and you can use any person’s image as long as you have front and profile shots.
To start your career you’ll have a couple of fights in the WFA in which to impress Dana White, and depending on how you do, you’ll have a couple of different paths possible for you. Win both fights by KO and you’ll be in the UFC. Win one and lose one and you may find yourself on the UFC reality show vying for a shot in the UFC. Get your butt kicked twice and you’ll probably be asked to keep working at your craft in the WFA. It is also possible to make it to the UFC, only to get your butt kicked back down to the WFA. The career mode isn’t set in stone, and each person’s path may be different depending on your skill level and your results, so don’t expect it to always be a linear path.
Once you make it out of the WFA you’ll have your first rival mouthing off at you on social media. You can respond in several different ways, either being aggressive, passive, of dismissive,  but eventually you’ll have to fight them and that is the key to progression. Each fight is broken down into fight selection, training camp, and then the fight itself. Fight selection isn’t too important until you’ve started to make a name for yourself, and then you’ll need to keep an eye on the stats of your opponents. Even on the easier settings, some of these guys will be able to easily defeat you if their stats are way above yours. Each fight will also list how many weeks will be available for your training camp, so pay attention to that as well.
Once you have a fight selected, you’ll then get to choose a training gym and these are as varied as the available fighting styles you chose from early on. We found that just because you are a striker, that doesn’t mean you should always train in a boxing gym, as you’ll need to be a more balanced fighter if you want to achieve that GOAT status. Make sure you can stand and bang, but at the same time make sure you can defend against those submissions too. The ground game might not be your forte but you better at least be able to defend yourself against someone whose forte is.
Each training camp is broken down into a certain number weeks where each week you’ll have 100 training points to spend on either making your fighter better or more popular. Both areas are important in becoming the GOAT so spread those points wisely. Learning new moves is important but in the grand scheme of things, having more buys for your PPV is a necessity as well. You can also spar with a fighter that will mimic your upcoming opponent and will give you a key to victory. Do this early in your training regimen and you just might be able to learn something that will help you knock the guys head off early, limiting any damage you may incur. Your longevity in the fight game might thank you.
If you need to take a break from your road to GOATness, you can jump right into the octagon in several other modes. Snoop Dogg joins the announcers for a best of 3 Knockout Mode where each fighter has a limited number of hits and no ground game required.  It’s a fun mode but some of Snoop’s comments in the past may have soured some UFC fans toward Snoop. In a more traditional, almost Fight Night mode but with both feet and fists, Stand and Bang uses the game’s health system instead of a point system.
EA Sports also includes an Ultimate Team mode where you can build a fight team based off of playing cards which can be purchased or earned by completing challenges and ranking up. The online portion of the game gives you plenty to see and do, and if you played through the career mode, your skills learned just may come in handy there.
EA Sports UFC 3 is a pretty complete game this year and live roster updates should keep the game fresh and fun for some time to to come. The road to G.O.A.T. is definitely worth your time if you are a UFC fight fan.
